My 2004 VW Jetta TDI wagon will be 15 years old on 2 January 2019.  I'm at a little over 226,000 miles in September 2018.  I plan to keep driving it until it needs a timing belt change for the third time at 300,000 miles.  I'll decide then whether or not to have the timing belt changed and continue to drive it.  The car may outlast me.

this guy is really into Japanese type cars how about american Brands I have had CHEVY Suv and Trucks THAT LASTED 300 Plus miles With proper care. you can have problems with any car or truck if you are too stupid to know how to take care of it!!!!

So is that because Toyota (and Honda) build such good cars (and they do) or because buyers of those cars tend to be more thrifty? I bought them because they were less expensive to buy and kept them because they were less expensive to repair. Although, they aren't so cheap anymore.

98 caravan with 298000 with royal purple I can drive from the Oregon border to San Diego with 150 bucks it is my go to tent on wheels and I have a 35 ft 5th wheel in the driveway.
Stats don’t lie.. I’ve owned 4 Tacoma’s 2 Celica’s a ae 86 corolla and currently in my 16 pro 4Runner . They forgot to mention Toyota has one of the hugest resale and trade in values also on the market .
I traded a 2014 Tacoma I paid $27,000 for on my 20,000 mile second oil change at 11.5 months old and got $23,000 on trade . Drive off the lot with 90% of anything else and it’s a lower trade in than that in 11 hours

What about the most number one vehicle sold in the world the F-150 pickup truck? I have seen some of these trucks last for 30-40 even 50 years on the farm.

Older American Iron! I once owned a brand new 78 Firebird, actually a Red Bird, it looked fabulous. At about 21,000 my son went out to start the car and came running back saying it was making a horrible noise. Long story short, at 21,000 it had thrown a main bearing, I made Enquiries about a replacement and was told the following by several different garages. At 21,000 miles I GOT ONE OF THE FEW GOOD ENGINES, they usually only lasted about 16,000 m8les. The engine was touted by GM as the NEW EVEN FIRING BUICK V6 ENGINE. This was the worst problem but the list of other problems is daunting. Remember the Chevy Vega, I had one of those. Remember the Chevy Monza, designed for the late unlamented GMRE, GENERAL MOTORS ROTARY ENGINE. GM replaced the GMRE with a 4 cylinder aluminum engine, WITH NO IRON CYLINDER LINER. The aluminum cylinder wore into an OVAL by 20,000 miles and BURNED MORE OIL THAN GAS. OLD AMERICAN IRON, YOU ARE INSANE.

The title should be 10 economy cars that people keep. Why no sport cars or luxury cars? That's because most wealthy people drive new cars all the time.

Doesn’t mean anything other than Toyota owners are cheap. Almost any car will last 15 years as long as you are willing to do the maintenance and repairs

Honda and Toyota, Japanese cars always dominate the lists for reliability and for being long lasting. I have a Toyota Yaris which is just 5 years old, my mum had a Toyota Corolla for 12 years before getting a volvo

My girlfriend has a 1990 Toyota Corolla that her mom bought new and a sold it to her in 1997. It has 305,000+ with same engine and transmission. She loves it and has no intentions of getting rid of it anytime soon. Great car and see more 1990 model Corollas and Camry's than any of these other cars on this list

The best car ever is a Lincoln Town Car I'm on my fourth one in the last 30 years these cars go 400,000 miles before he even thinks of quitting I would never take any car on this list over a Lincoln Town Car

Toyota for sure. Toyota is an outlier, like Usain Bolt. Travel the developing world and you will see the strongest car brands shine through. When u are in the wilderness and a breakdown means death, you quickly get serious about getting a Toyota.

I know the sienna is on the list, but I see a lot of toyota previa with the mid engine and rwd from the early 90s still running around

I think it's not necessary because Toyotas are better than other cars it's because Toyota owners don't have money to buy a new car every 7 years while average BMW owner probably does have some extra money to buy a new car every once in a while

Toyota deserves the recognition they are given here. My 03 Toyota Camry XLE was bought used 6 years ago for 3.5k. I live in Ontario Canada, about 100 miles north of Toronto so the car has to be oiled each year to keep rust at bay but you won't find a better, more reliable used car. Cheap repairs; as parts are everywhere, good on gas, decent mileage for a V6, dives beautifully. Toyota can't be beat as a used vehicle. Now that Toyota designers have a new Camry available I look forward to picking up a another used Camery when some time passes. As soon as an American car manufacturer can do what Toyota is capable of I will jump on it but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm in the market for a car so I asked my mechanic what vehicle would he NOT recommend I purchase. His answer "I work on more Toyota's than anything else". I find it somewhat strange that the majority of your top 10 cars are Toyota's.

I did not own a Toyota, but the info in here is correct. The only ones with reliable VVTI is Toyota and Honda. I was trying hard all this years to stick to american cars but i m just tired of issues with the electrical wiring harness & computer related ( Dodge and Ford) Oil leaks, timing belt noises, low quality supension (Chevy,Gmc etc...) Be Carefull with the mazda engine, not a good buy on a used car./

Honda Odyssey has that odd design. I think i Honda Odyssey is an odd looking design, only a limited number in Australia. I think it is a bit long body and parallel parking may be an issue for some. Even though I never own one, I believe it is ugly in design.
