2018 Lexus RX350L Quick Drive | Consumer Reports

The Lexus RX is now super-sized: the RX350L's added space includes a third row of seats, but some might find it more useful for hauling cargo, rather than passengers. Nice.My cousins our looking for a luxury SUV and I'm trying to convince them to buy this one,the Lexus RX350L

Had a 450hL order form completed until both the salesman and I both found out it wasn’t approved for towing. Can u imagine zero towing capacity?????? Picked up a 2018 Highlander Limited Hybrid Platinum package AWD that tows 3,500 pounds instead. If the Sienna was a hybrid and didn’t force us to get a drop down tv, I’d have gladly gone with that as it would have ridden better and have even better MPG. We get 29.8 MPG with our Highlander.

Over priced and over rated. I found this car a little cramped and under powered and extremely expensive. Get a highlander instead
Landslide Tommy (1 month ago)
There appears to be a lot of space behind the 3rd row
RJK_2013 (3 months ago)
Wow, that thing is UGLY!!!!!
John Doe (3 months ago)
that 3rd row is meant for Torso-only adults
deekay2 (3 months ago)
One word: FUGLY
DogsBark (3 months ago)
Why? The 3rd row in the highlander is larger. Who buys a luxury suv for less space?
Emh0303 (3 months ago)
get an Enclave
Jon Doe (4 months ago)
I would NEVER buy a car with a grill like that! Hideous. It looks like it's puking. Which is what it makes me want to do. Until they get off the huge grill kick, I'll keep my 07 RX. It's never given me a problem! If I wreck mine, I'll get an older one that looks like it wasn't designed by a 12yo kid!
DrScopeify (3 months ago)
Yeah we had the older rx in the family in the past it looked very clean and normal but this thing is like a face of a monster.. it is just so ugly. You go to Audi and the back is ugly and BMW all look outdated and cheap... The only grill that looked good was the Tahoe/suburban/yukon/yukonxl but from the side it looks like the front end is wearing a mask, it just looks terrible especially in black the black is not the same as the rest of the car lol.. I think we are in the middle of a design change and no one has it right yet, maybe next generation will tone down a bit and be more sensible... They are just all so ugly. Right now I drive an older MDX and from the forums I know there are allot of mechanical issues with the new 3rd gen MDX so I would stay away, especially the 9speed transmission eww.

Jon Doe most LEXUS vevicles front are ugly as sin.
Gabriel G (4 months ago)
this model has an exahust flaw , it vibrates on low RPM beware
95thRiflesOCI (4 months ago)
I can't believe lexus rushed this. The highlander already had flaws with its 3rd row and 4runner and both had the same amount of leg room. Now They decided to do it in a cramp RX350. If u want to make a real 3rd row shift it as far back as u can so that it takes up most of the trunk. Even now the leg room in the 2nd row is not as luxurious / spacious. I think the first manufracturer that will do this will get alot of buyers. For these midsize crossovers u have to either choose to carry people or cargo. Not half of each and suck it up.
95thRiflesOCI (3 months ago)
My younger sis is 5'1 and she feels cramp in the 3rd row. Also about the specification , it is actually way less for the 1st / 2nd row seating legroom with the addition to the 3rd row because they didn't make the RX L long enough. I know because I own both a RX350 and a 2012 highlander which actually has a evenly distributed leg room with all the seats shifted around.
Leighton Samms (3 months ago)
95thRiflesOCI Lots Of people, buy vehicles with 3 row, but NEVER EVER USE THEM, just to say I guess, ‘my vehicle has 3 rows, yours don’t ‘.
Samson Okoro (4 months ago)
95thRiflesOCI I have read a lot on this car and its technical data, there's no reduction in the normal back seat head or leg room from the regular Rx. I agree they could have made the 3rd row bigger to fit adults comfortably but you need to realise it's really meant for those who love the normal Rx and now have additions to the family and want slightly more room to accommodate them I.e young kids or teenagers not yet adults. An average sized 13-15 year old will fit in that 3rd row without problems. It isn't meant for kids older than 15 years in my opinion. There's the Gx and the Lx that can fit adults in the 3rd available for those who can afford the slightly more expensive Gx and the top range expensive LX.
Cayden Ludlow (4 months ago)
And there the complaining two year old is back
L W (4 months ago)
3rd row looks useless
inane (4 months ago)
what the heck is that
Wade Higgins (4 months ago)
You shouldn't by this without FSport
MSA (4 months ago)
The 5 passenger was just fine. I’d never buy this model.
Samson Okoro (4 months ago)
MIQUEL AVERY it's meant for those whose families are getting bigger and would love to have space for kids. If that isn't you this Suv isn't meant for you.
Greg Caesar (4 months ago)
What a hideous conception.
Blake Swan (4 months ago)
Edysin Simon (4 months ago)
Sadly, Lexus bandage solution to the RX does not exude the looks of a well thought out design for a 3 row SUV. I'd pass on the "L" part of the RX 350 equation.
John Ji (4 months ago)
lol... no android auto/apple play. What is this? a joke?
Sam S (4 months ago)
Added now to the 2019 Avalon and RAV4 - but only Apple Car Play and Alexa. Android Auto Toyota says is too expensive, and they don't adopt new technology first as they want the bugs worked out before they adopt it (none on these platforms, but they did not know that).
Tim Joseph (4 months ago)
Anyone thinking about getting this should reconsider the GX 460. Yeah it's tall, has a V8, and less fuel efficient, but it's slightly roomier than the RX 350L.
yiyangcheng (4 months ago)
What’s the point of getting this when you can actually fit in the third row of vehicles like Buick Enclave or Acura MDX. And no do not say reliability
John Doe (3 months ago)
Geoffrey Wan (4 months ago)
yiyangcheng just go for the fully loaded sienna. Badge snobs
Mrchevy baja (4 months ago)
lift the pen lexus.
Craig Merkey (4 months ago)
hmmmmm ;\ I think I will stick with my crossover without the "badge" that has Apple car play but only 2 rows for 25K less thx!
mmymhashemi (4 months ago)
It is not clear why CR and KBB are pushing the 3rd-row SUVs? How many people do really need the 3rd row in their normal life? Go and get a van guys!
Greg Caesar (4 months ago)
mmymhashemi Because vans are hideous, and most only need the third row to haul the carpool off to soccer practice every other week.
max audi (4 months ago)
Interior look alike my 2005 Acura MDX. Terrible
Samson Okoro (4 months ago)
max audi even the new mdx interior 2018 is rubbish compared to this then you want to compare this with your dead 05 model hahahhaha 😀
mountainhobo (4 months ago)
Punishment for people who whine they will never sit in a minivan.

Darth Vader just got a sibling!
alliejr (4 months ago)
And UGLY at no extra charge.
roguedogx (4 months ago)
It really looks like a half effort by lexus.
albert7139 (4 months ago)
I already know what people are gonna say... but I'd rather just get a top trim Kia Sorento SXL .. has all the features that this would have and is cheaper.
Samson Okoro (4 months ago)
albert7139 has all.the features? R u kidding me, you think the features they mention in reviews is all there is to lexus? There r tons of luxury features and amenities lexus provides that is very unique and not available on its rivals talkless on a KIA. Then you can't even begin to compare the comfort and interior fit and finish to any thing from KIA. The interior design or styling is another major factor too. Then there's the top notch reliability, there's a whole lot of difference between a Lexus and a KIA. This Rx interior beats its German rivals in the same segment flat out then it's a KIA you want to compare it to?
Aufaan Romal (4 months ago)
and cheaper to maintain
Miguel Ircontar (4 months ago)
Pointless Lexus what a waste of money.
Samson Okoro (4 months ago)
Miguel Ircontar yet it's selling and adding to the numbers, but a random you tuber thinks his opinion makes a difference hahahaha 😀😉😜😒
Unknown Traveller (4 months ago)
Why can't Toyota / Lexus gut the Android auto and Apple car play sorted, some of the excuses I have heard have been laughable to say the least.
abdullah shakir (3 months ago)
Samson Okoro will the 2018 models get those updates as well and if not can you preinstall apple car play and Android
C Wu (4 months ago)
cuz, nobody give a fuck about it. it's not at all necessary.
Samson Okoro (4 months ago)
Unknown Traveller aren't u aware it's on all their new vehicles already? It's on the new Avalon and new Es and it would come to other models via OTA software update. There's no need overflogging the issue.
Sam S (4 months ago)
Because they are slow to adopt new technology - it keeps their reliability up. If you don't add new features first or in a rush, your initial quality out the gate goes up drastically. They are finally adopting it on new cars as they launch - the new Avalon and RAV4 in 2019 will finally have Apple Car Play, but not Android Auto because Toyota does not want to pay the license fees. They adopted Alexa capabilities instead in those two vehicles.
David N (4 months ago)
This car would look better if the front smashes into a wall. Hideous!!!
John Schellhase (4 months ago)
Anyone notice the Tesla Model X at 1:45 ? Testing a newer model? (Last tested was a 2016 P90DL that was blue)
Greg Caesar (4 months ago)
Yes, it’s just that no one cares.
Right Lane Hog (4 months ago)
They should have made it 14 inches longer not 4.
aayonce4 (4 months ago)
Yeah this car is really stupid
Sam S (4 months ago)
Thumbs up for that comment - no point in having a third row with an additional 4.4 inches.
boniface njoroge (4 months ago)
Right Lane Hog yea...
Right Lane Hog (4 months ago)
The 3rd row should accommodate adults. If they could accomplish that goal with an increase of less than 14 inches then fine.
Kenimaru (4 months ago)
You realize that this would make it longer than the LX right...?
Douglas Adams (4 months ago)
Bring back Tom M. This guy isn’t terrible but these reviews need some personality! Tom, Gabe, John... Where are you guys
Norm T (4 months ago)
Damn plastic fender trim and along the bottom of vehicle looks like a $20,000 CX-5!
p (3 months ago)
That's exactly what I said. It looks so cheaply made.
Paul FUN (4 months ago)
Or a $100,000 Land Rover... its lighter more dent resistant and won't rust. But ya it's reminiscent of cheap cars from back in the day. I think you still have the Acura and Cadillac you could buy.
Serge Vivier (4 months ago)
CR, Does it come with auto high beam headlights because most drivers who collide with animals at night never had their high beams on. If you wonder how I know this, it's because I was a cop in a rural province in Canada.
Right Lane Hog (4 months ago)
Merci Serge.
cadsux (4 months ago)
It's as if the focus groups said all they wanted was a 3rd row, because they were too snooty to get a Highlander or Sienna. The cargo room barely changes: behind the 2nd row, 15 cubic ft vs 18 cubic ft in the regular 350, and max cargo is 58 cubic ft vs 56 cubic ft in the 350.  I would suggest they square off the rear hatch to make it more usable.
cadsux (4 months ago)
Not necessarily. You can thank the 2004 Mazda3 hatchback for being the trend setter.
Rob L. (4 months ago)
cadsux Squared rear hatches are for the mainstream vehicles, while sloped rear hatches are common in the upscale vehicles.
lexusfan100 (4 months ago)
wow that 3rd row is not only cramped it also has no proper size 3rd row windows..very odd design
Samson Okoro (4 months ago)
lexusfan100 it's meant for kids, I can bet u regular Rx buyers who had no issues with the regular model would love the addition and it would even gain new customers as well. Even the 3rd row seats in its competitors like the Acura Mdx can't fit full sized adults for long trips. I just don't know why there's a fuss to something that wasn't there before and yet it remained the best selling luxury car in North America. This additional 3rd row seating will only boost its sales.
Brian Rosado (4 months ago)
Another day, another useless third row crossover
Lou (4 months ago)
I love Lexus, but that thing is ugly!
