Uh. I'm not familiar with the other drugs mentioned, but I am with Wellbutrin. Those things they're demonizing the drug company for promoting the drug doing? Weight loss, improved sex drive, ect? IT ACTUALLY DOES THOSE THINGS. The studies back that up. Just because the FDA hasn't explicitly approved them for those uses just means the FDA's approval system is incredibly tedious, it doesn't mean those are lies. IIRC, approving them for those uses would mean going through almost the entire approval process from scratch. Further, it's a pretty benign drug with minimal side effects and risks. It's also extremely versatile. As mentioned, it works on depression and social anxiety and it has moderate benefits with libedo and weight loss. But it's also marketed, with FDA approval, as an anti-smoking aid. There's a lot to be pissed off about in the world of prescription advertisements and general drug company fuckery. But a fairly harmless drug being prescribed for benefits IT LEGITIMATELY DOES HAVE isn't worth bitching about.

Just wanna point out (physician here) that off-label prescription is not always bad. If for example you need to give antibiotics to children you mostly have no choice but to go off-label because (due to higher safety standards and the negative public response you'd get from performing drug trials on children) most drug companies don't take the effort of getting their drugs approved for use on children. This is even worse with stuff like blood pressure medication and psychiatric medication - something most people seem to assume children wouldn't ever need in the first place. Some of these drugs have been used off-label on children for decades, so you have a certain amount of clinical experience with them, but the direly needed official trials for approval are still lacking.

The title "Marketing to Doctors" is entirely misleading and dodges the whole point. There's no such thing as "marketing to doctors", that's a media fabrication to use Purdue Pharma as the scapegoat, while the real drug dealers, doctors/pharmacists walk free. Get this straight! Doctors and pharmacist don't read comic books to learn what drugs they prescribe and sell are addictive or not. They rely solely on scientific, medical journals, not "marketing schemes you see on TV commercials advertising how delicious McDonald's French Fries are", to base their knowledge on all medications. If doctors and pharmacists were duped, then it means the scientific research documenting which drugs are addicting or not, has been compromised and is grossly in error. And if that's true, then no doctor or pharamcist can ever be trusted to dispense or prescibe any medication, as they would be basing their knowledge on falsified scientific journals that are paid off to lie and deceive the entire medical industry. The media knows this, and realizes if the truth came out regarding how doctors and pharmacists knowingly caused the Oxycotin epidemic, it would mean nobody could ever trust a doctor or pharmacist again, for if they fell for the lie Oxycontin is safe, who's to say the next drug they prescribe to you or your children won't be ten times worse and kill everyone? You have two and only two choices: 1) Purdue Pharma, doctors, and pharmacists are all in bed together, addicting millions of their patients to heroin (Oxycontin is heroin, in a pill form to be swallowed, rather than a powder turned liquid to be injected). 2) Neither the makers of Oxycontin (Purdue Pharma), nor the doctors who prescribed them, or pharmacists who sold them, know anything about which medications are dangerous or safe, in which case any doctor or pharamcist who prescibed Oxycontin should never have been given a license to sell any medication to begin with, and should be facing charges of incompetance and negligence for failing to protect their patients from this monster epidemic they led us into to begin with.

The sad part is that these drugs don’t “cure” trauma they either suppress or exaggerate the core issue. In addition, trauma is only a temporary wound, when dealt with correctly you heal. Drugs never solve or resolve anything. So many unnecessary deaths...so sad, just a lack of information...

I talked with a salesman who sells pharmaceuticals and vitamins to drugstores.. He told me that most pharmaceuticals last for 10 to 20 years in the bottles, that it's only some liquids that loose potency.. And some antibiotics lose about 3 to 5% potency after 5 years.. drugstores actually loose potency as the expiry date stamp indicates.. There's the scam.. It seems the drug companies are making us sick by taking away that which makes us healthy, just to make millions to sell us drugs that combat only the symptoms of disease.. It's the drug companies that are destroying humanity's health to suck the money out of us like how vampires feed.. FIX IT!.. Do something good for humanity if you have any goo in you...

I was prescribed Seroquel several times in the past. I'm not bipolar or psychotic (last time I checked anyway 😋). It was supposedly prescribed to work as an antidepressant and for my insomnia. I know a large number of people who have also been prescribed it for off-label uses. The amount of drug commercials on tv is outrageous. It's what seems to make up 90% of commercials these days.

I asked my doctor, "Is is dangerous to snort cocaine?" He said, "Yes." I said, "how you know?" Doc says, "It's basic chemistry 101." I then asked, "is it dangerous to inject heroin?" He said, "Yes." I said, "How do you know?" He said, "Basic chemistry 101". I then asked, "Is Oxycontin addicting?" He answered, "How would I know? I failed chemistry 101". I then went to my pharmacy and asked the phamacist, "Is Oxycontin addicting?" He said, "How in the world would I know? We only sell drugs, we have no idea what chemicals they consist of, or if they're safe or addicting. We make money, who cares what they do to people."
nickie nok (1 month ago)
Don't fall for their scapegoat: it's all Purdue Pharma to blame. That's certainly true, but doctors and pharmacists all major in chemistry, and knew very well the chemical composition of oxycontin; they knew exactly how addictive it was, don't buy into, "oh, my poor doctor never studied chemistry and my pharmacist never took chemistry 101, so it's not their fault, they are victims because the know nothing about the meds they prescrible and sell". If so, then why the hell are they even in the business of telling you what you should be taking to cure whatever illness or pain your're suffering? Absolutely, Purdue Pharma are guilty as sin and should be facing life in prison, but don't buy into the utter lies "oh my doctor or pharmacist never took a chemistry class in high school, so didn't know oxycontin has exact same chemical composition as heroin". Sue them all, doctors, pharmacist and Purdue Pharma, including FDA, they were all in bed together on this. Trageting only Purdue Pharma is like suing the makers of guns, but ignoring those who used the guns to sell to criminals (doctors and pharmacists) who used that to shoot their victims (all who got addicted). Make them all pay, but not just money: these are drug dealers of the worst, put them in prison first, then take away their money they got rich from killing our loved ones. No time to be nice or funny, time to show the world we dont' let doctors or pharmacists kill our loved ones. If not, they'll just keep doing it, laughing all the way to the bank as the rest suffer horrible deaths. I'm 6 years addicted, because my doctors lied knowing I'll keep coming back to make him rich, don't fall for any more media bullshit, please! Sue them all! Not just makers of guns (Purdue Pharma) but those who used the guns to shoot people (doctors, pharmacists). All of equally guilty and must be in prison waiting the death penalty, or it will just continue. Take your pick. Your child is their next target... I assure you of that!
nickie nok (1 month ago)
I live in Thailand. Oxycontin is illegal. I asked several doctors, "why is it illegal?" The doctors replied: "Every doctor knows it's just another form of heroin. Our job is to protect our patients, not kill them or turn them into addicts like the doctors do in the USA."
nickie nok (1 month ago)
This is true, but all doctors have no excuse. This is basic chemistry 101. Anyone who looks at the chemical composition of oxycontin, unless blind or retarded, can see it's relation is nearly identical to heroin. Any doctor who couldn't see they're feeding their patient heroin in pill form (oxycontin), and any pharmacist who certainly knew the chemical composition, should be rotting in prison. Purdue Pharma is certainly guilty and to blame, but please, don't simplify it by making them the scapegoat: all doctors and pharmacists knew exactly how addictive oxycontin was from the outset, unless they failed chemistry 101 in high school, in which case how is it they became educated enought to become a doctor or pharmacist? Sue them all, my vote is death penalty. You have to see it for what it is: those who both marketed (Purdue Pharma), sold (pharmacists), prescribed (doctors), oxycontin are not humans: they are monsters from outter space on a mission to destroy America, while laughing all the way to the bank at how many people they killed or lives they destroyed. It's that simple. Letting them off the hook with silly fines (what's 1 million dollar fine to a company worht 39 billion? it's peanuts!), they'll just do the same as tabacco companies, target innocents in other countries such as Philippines, Cambodia, etc., where laws are still not catching up to who the real drug dealers are. FOX news also to blame: how many times have they said, "Trust your doctor"? They too should be in prison for not protecting us and telling the truth from the start. It's a war, who's side are you on?

Anybody else going back and watching these older episodes for the distinct, quiet satisfaction of not having to hear Drumpf's name mentioned every other minute?
nickie nok (1 month ago)
I told my doctor, "i have back pain, it only last a few days. Maybe you can give me 10 oxycontin pills, is that too much? He smiled, then wrote a prescription, for 100 (one hundred) oxycontin and said, take it for 3 months to cure 2-3 days of pain. I said, "100?" He said, "ok, come back when you finish and I'll write out another prescription for 100 morphine pills." 6 months later, I return, "I'm addicted to opiates, and suffering horrible withdrawals." His solution? "Here, take 100 valiums for 3 months, and codeine for 6 months, then see me if you're still in pain." 6 years I've suffered from doctors peddling addictive drugs...now the tables are turned, my doctor will soon be in prison, which my lawyer informed me, "That's the perfect place where he can sell more drugs to all the drug addicts in prison, so he can afford bail to get back to his drug deals with pharmacies that know they are pushing poison to the public. The solution? 1. Hire the best lawyer and sue yhour doctor for $1 million every month you suffered withdrawals, but only after he serves 10 years in prison and his license is revoked as his wife and children divorce him for murdering all your neighbors, your loved one, and even your children, as he laughs all the way to the bank. People! Take a stand and stop the real war on drugs: the biggest drug dealers are pharmacies in cahoots with doctors, how I wish we lived 2,000 years ago when the penalty for such crimes was a most simple solution: stone them to death. But don't worry, when your doctor is in prison with African-Americans whose children and loved ones also died from prescribing these poisons, the doctor need not fear, he gets a free jar of KY and vasoline for every week he's bending over in the shower when the inmates decide it's time to teach this drug dealer a lesson. Put them in prison, don't take their bribes, so they can continue to kill other victims, your children could be next on their list. FOX news lied in their drug on war: they missed the real target: doctors and pharmacists, these are the real "Cartels" of the USA, everyone join in the massive lawsuit and put these criminals in the only place they belong: life in prison. Otherwise, they will only contiue to murder people laughing all the way to the bank. Excellent presentation, do more to expose the real drug dealers of our world: doctors and pharamcists. It's time they rot in jail for the horror of addiction, if you've become an oxycontin addict, you know the nightmare you suffer and the utter torture you must go through to break the addiction, which no doctor to this day has a clue how cure. I know the cure: put them in prison, let the world know, doctors and pharmacists killed our loved ones, the penalty cannot be small fines, Purdue Pharma is worth over 39 billion, how is fining them even $600millon to them anything, it's like making a multi millionaire pay a $50 parking ticket. Tell your lawyer, "I want to go all the way and put them in prison, then we can sue for money and bankrupt them". (p.s., my sister, died at 47, she had 30 shrinks from her opitate addictions from doctors, and all they did was drowning her in deadly prescription drugs, valiums, xanex, more opiates, til her heart gave out and died a most horrible, painful death. Shrinks, doctors, pharmacist are the real Cartels of the USA, why are they not in prison where all drug dealers must go? Then once in prison, empty their bank account so they can realize as the great Steven Seagal said in one movie, "you fuck with my family, you die". No, don't commit murder, just let the law place them in prison for life, then let the inmates in prison do the dirty work, they will be happy to take good care of your doctor while in jail...remember, in jail bring lots of KY when taking a shower.

The worst thing pharmaceutical companies did was decide that they weren't going to heal illnesses but instead create medications that cause others. Don't believe me? Listen to the possible side effects instead of changing the channel during a commercial pimping the latest drug release. This is the real reason why there is an opiod crisis! You might go to your doctor hoping to be healed but eventually you're going to discover the only prescriptions you'll get are just so you can live your problems!

My mum's a practice nurse in the uk, and because of our laws around advertising drugs to the public, she often gets drug reps wh bring in food and the sort. As far as i can tell, they don't have much affect on her (largely because, as far as i can tell, it's basically illegal to pay doctors like that, not that she would take the money), but i always loved it when she got drug reps because it meant i'd end up getting nice food, particularly the sweet stuff that my mum never likes. She doesn't always bring home food tho, because quite alot of her patients are poor, and she knows they won't be able to heal properly if they are hungry.

I used to design the SA for pharmas, I know what they do, like the conferences, and trips. They track through pharmacies what each doctor prescribes in their 'territory.' I am talking cruises and Caribbean vacations, etc, prizes for top prescribers. I designed the software for pharmacy visits as well. It's so unethical...but healthcare for profit is a serious problem .

A doctor tried to prescribe me Advair Diskus once, but I couldn't tolerate the taste. A few years later, the same doctor mentioned that it had a bunch of side effects that had been discovered in the intervening time. So thanks, sensory hypersensitivity (I guess). Also, at 9:19, you compare Wellbutrin to methamphetamine. They're in the same class of molecules (substituted phenethylamines). Also, both are stimulants. So your comparison is surprisingly accurate. And at 14:54, you talk about a $0.04 "Food and Beverage." I would guess that whatever it was was a portion of a bulk purchase at wholesale prices -- food at wholesale prices is ridiculously cheap.

Same in Sweden, but we need to remember that we have a say in what choises are being made for us and we are allowed to switch doctors. I used to go online and ask my friends what kind of antidepressants they took and how they made them feel in order to find the right choice for me. It's sad that it has to be this way but we need to be educated in the choices we make nowadays and listen to the people who have been there and can tell us about the real side effects.

There is a more easy way to tackle this. Pass a legislation in the federal congress, compelling every doctor to prescibe only GENERIC MEDICINES. The prescription should only have the molecular name of the drug. The brand name, should not be used. For newer drugs, for which the drug company may have exclusive patent rights, this may not be possible. Even then, commonly used 80% of drugs are already Off patent, Once the drug is off patent, immediately only Generic medicines, with just name of drug printed on the strip, should be encouraged. For each drug, we have atleast 20 different brand names, marketed by many companies. Next exclusive patent right duration may be reduced to just five years. With all these reforms, US stock market Dow jones index will fall drastically, because, the shares of these pharma companies are most sought after in the market.
