(14 Oct 2018) LEADIN: Cat and dog owners have attended a special event in Alexandria dedicated to their pets. It marks World Animal Day which was held earlier this month. STORYLINE: There's no escape for this feline friend - but this is for its own good. The cat is getting vetinary treatment at a special event to mark World Animal Day. Pet owners have come to The British School of Alexandria for a variety of animal advice and entertainment. There are vets, animal groomers, animal rights activists here - as well as 25 cats, 25 dogs and their proud human owners. World Animal Day is hosted around the world on October 4 - but in Alexandria they are doing it a little later in the month. "The goal of today's event is to interact about animals through awareness, rescue and medical checkups," says Mau Hamada, who is one of Egypt's official ambassadors for World Animal Day. And as well as serious advice, there's a bit of fun too. A pet parade allows everyone to show off their cats and dogs in front of a panel of judges. They will award prizes to the ones they like best. More than 70 countries take part in World Animal Day. "The world is not only ours, but it belongs to future generations," says event organiser Dr. Sherif  Baghdadi. "Therefore, we must preserve Earth by preserving the environment and preserving wild animals and pets are essential as they were present from the beginning of creation."
