Sorry, dr. Berg, fat cannot be converted to sugar, or only a small fraction, the glycerol backbone of the fat molecule.

Hi, at 58 I lost 7 kg in 2 months doing nothing and discovered sugar in my urine. I started to take Metformin because my blood sugar was off the charts. I was surprised to learn via a 3 Tesla MRI that, although my pancreas looked fine, though with a couple of cysts, my liver though looked like that of an alcoholic: steatosis (Fatty liver, or hepatic steatosis, is a term that describes the buildup of fat in the liver). This was surprising to me as I do not drink. I then learned that my paternal uncle had great problems with his liver and my dad had Diabetes 2 but in his 60s, so this may be an inherited condition. In general, throughout my life I was not a fan of raw vegetables. I have been taking 1000 mg of Vitamin C daily for the last 12 years or more and also a lot of cod liver oil. Immune from colds I thought this would save me. I have high blood pressure I control by means of two pills: amlodipine and peryndopril but it is a genetic condition as both my parents and both of my sisters suffer high blood pressure. So at first I thought either the pressure pills or the overactive immune system caused a type of autoimmune response like this onset, reminiscent of Diabetes 1 because I lost weight so quickly and need to urinate and some thirst, but apparently it is a type 2 because ketones were not that high. What do you recommend to repair my liver? and is that the source of my problem. Incidentally, how can we also lower visceral fat, I am just over BMI but marginally over. I am not obese just marginally above the BMI. Could visceral fat surrounding organs cause these problems too?

People try to simplify stuff very much.. although the general idea of whatever he is saying is true, there is much more to it than is said in the video, for example, IGF accounts for only a fraction of hypoglycemic effect, and this video seems to disregard role of other hormones like corticosteroids, estrogens, etc., also insulin doesn't exactly pull out glucose out of blood, it rather pushes glucose inside the muscle or liver cells from the blood..there is much more to diabetes than its said in this video.. after being in medical profession for nearly a decade now, I can tell u.. just believe in Ur doctor..

Dear Dr. Berg, Thank you so much for being one of the sane voices out there about type 2 diabetes. I was diagnosed in July 2018 (BG 390, A1C 9.0). After 45 days of keto eating my A1C was 6.0, after 90 days it was 5.5. At which point my doctor declared me non-diabetic. Not that I am in the clear. I still have a ways to go to get my insulin sensitivity back to where it needs to be. This video contains important information to get me there. I looked high and low to find a book that would explain exactly what I needed to do to stop and reverse my type 2 diabetes. I didn't really find one (although I loved Jason Fung's The Diabetes Code). Now I need to go look for Dr. Berg's books. I decided to write a book myself: The Type 2 Diabetes Recovery Handbook. It's on Amazon, here to be exact: @t. The book takes you through the steps to go from dependence on insulin and oral meds, to reversing your diabetes with ketogenic eating and a little intermittent fasting. It amazes me every day to have it demonstrated to me first hand how Drs. Berg, Fung, and Hallberg are right. Change what you eat, heal your diabetes.

Stored Fat is coverted to keytones, which is a clean fuel. Insulin attaches to cells so cells can absorb glucose, when cells will not accept insulin, a condition called insulin resistence , glucose levels go up.

His eating habits have favorably changed since he has been an avid reader and follower of this plan..

Hi doctor Berg. I have been diabetic for about 40 years. You sir, have enlightened me more in this 20 minute video, than all the doctors/nurses and 'specialists' throughout those long years! I clicked on this and initially thought to myself...."Here we go again, another so-called expert", how wrong I was. Your presentation skills and the analogies used, make it so easy to understand..........."Thank you"! I have just subbed to your channel. I managed to lose about 20 pounds 6 months ago but couldn't figure out why I put the weight back on. Having seen your video, I'm now convinced that potassium was the key to my weight loss because I ate a lot more vegetables and definitely more bananas too. I'm not seriously overweight by any means but just trying to look after myself. I'm generally well controlled, in fact the best in my surgery so they tell me. I'll be looking up some more of your content from now on...............Thanks again doctor Berg. Greetings from Cornwall :)

I don't know how many studies there are to support the idea that type 1 diabetes is caused by a poor diet "exhausting" our little islet cells. I think there is far more data which supports immunilogical and genetic factors which contribute to the occurrence of diabetes far more frequently... especially since type 1 is referred to as "childhood" diabetes. I agree with much and that our diet is number one in healthy living, but living as a diabetic with so many people typically not even knowing the difference between type one and 2, it gets frustrating to be lumped in with an entire disease group who have eaten themselves into a "diabetic" situation. I just know that about 99% of type one diabetics, if they could reverse their "cellular exhaustion" by eating a specific diet... we would. In fact, the diet we must maintain while taking exogenous insulin in far more rigorous than most people would put up with, just as an attempt to slow their progressing into type 2.

In Jan this year my blood glucose was 401 and I weighed 90kg. I was shocked. I went on crash program, I hardly ate anything, rigorous exercise and strong medications. In May my A1C was 6.4 and weight 78kg. I was satisfied. I relaxed a little bit. By Sep I reduced to 72kg and my fasting glucose remained less than 100 mgdl. I left medicines, relaxed exercise and eating. During last month I lost trac, attended many parties and ate anything and everything. I kept checking my blood glucose surprisingly it never rose more than 140 after eating. Yesterday my A1C was 4.8. I can't understand this. Am I no more a diabetic? Please say something. I am 53 years old male. Regards.

I learned a lot from your video, so thank you Dr Berg. I'm not overweight and according to my doctor's tests I'm healthy. I can't however eat fruits and vegetables, hardly any except bananas, pomegranate juice, avocados, 1-2 spoonfuls of broccoli/squash/sunchokes/sieved tomatoes. I'm 80 years old, go to the gym 3 times a week, and do aerobic activities 3 times per week. How can I get more potassium into my diet. I've bought a supplement, but I see it says there 3% of RDA in each tablet...way lower than you suggest. Have you any ideas. If this is addressed in your book, please let me know the title.

Diabetes2 is caused by poor processing of sugar. Cure in 2 weeks . Tests in 1959 proved that you could give a person diabetes and cure it. Chromium and vanadium are needed to process sugar. Without these two essentials everyone will get diabetes2. Nice presentation but complicated and misleading. Research it . Don't believe me

I've read that the body loves to burn fat but never gets a chance to because of carb based diets. The big error is that the body burns glucose not because it PREFERS to but because it HAS to to keep blood sugar balance. Protein reduces to glucose but fatty acids do not. Triglycerides break up and free a glycerol molecule but the fatty acids are burned directly and produce much more ATP than glucose. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. 😊

Thanks for the upload and truth! I came across a great product. It's called Moringa. It is packed with a lot of minerals. Minerals keeps the body balanced and healthy. Minerals rids the body of diseases. Menopause and PMS and anemia are all present because of lack of minerals! Moringa comes in powder form and seeds! Place one teaspoon in a 8 ounce bottle of water. Take two seeds at night by 8 PM and it will remove toxins and sugar from the body. Powder and seeds are great for controlling Diabetes and PMS and menopause!°

Do you wanna know why almost all dostors dont know about this? BECAUSE they are nothing more than trained monkeys, trained by the pharmaceutical industry. IF they would heal their patients, their losses would be in the billions!!! So the system maintains and manages disease because the is where the profit is! If the people on this earth would know what I know (not just what is said in this video and comment) there would be a revolution before dawn.

Why do so many people say, 'blood sugars'? Isn't there only one kind of blood sugar- glucose? Or is this a contraction of 'blood sugar levels' or 'blood sugar tests'?
Jefferdaughter (1 month ago)
The body loves to burn fat. It just can not when sugar levels are high, which means insulin levels are high. Insulin signals the body to store fat, and blocks the body from burning fat. This is likely due to the fact that sugar is so damaging, as any diabetic can tell you. High blood sugar levels cause blindness, kidney disease, infections requiring amputations... Some researchers are even calling Alzheimer's disease 'Type 3 Diabetes'.

I'm not sure if you're still responding to this thread but wow this has really been helpful. I am a type II diabetic and I NEVER knew all of this information as it relates to the liver. I am going to start looking at building a healthier liver and of course continuing my low carb diet to manage my sugar levels. In August 2018 my A1C was 9.1 (out of control) but I've made significant strides in an effort to get it at or below 7.0 by December 2018. This information on the liver should help me with that goal. Thanks very much!

How much green veggies per day for a type 2 diabetic daily on a Keto diet eating once a day?
UnsilentStorms (1 month ago)
I have a different theory. Drinking too much water leads to an accumulation of inorganic minerals which dry out the body and thus you start needing to urinate more to get them out. Therefore animals only get a healthy balance of drinking when they're thirsty from water but also get some distilled pure water from plants or fruits depending the diet which helps clear out some of those inorganic salts. Distilled water only cleans inorganic minerals out of the body not organic received from food even though they are both absorbed into the small intestine

Hi Dr. Berg! I have been battling insulin resistance due to PCOS for years, and recently had an ovarian wedge resection. I believe the surgery was successful, because I have experienced some hypoglycemia for the first time in years yesterday. My question is: should I continue eating a very very carb restricted diet? I’ve been eating a ketogenic diet for several months and love it, but will being that restrictive hurt my newfound insulin regulation?

Three years ago, I was warned about my blood sugar, mine was 99, almost on on the edge of 100. What I did is decrease my sweet drinks intakes, control my rice consumption to one per meal and drink acv every morning. A year later I reduce it to 92, still high normal but glad it is lower than a year ago. Then this year annual physical exam shows my sugar rose to 94, it is normal according to the doctor but still a high normal. So I will try this IF and see what will happen when I take another physical exam January next year.

Great video that helps explain a lot to me, and I have the greatest respect for Dr Berg and this certainly isn't a criticism because I have heard about the huge need for potassium in the diet in other presentations. It is suggested that we need to consume huge amounts of vegetables to get this amount of potassium. But something is missing.. it doesn't make sense. We aren't cows and we don't graze all day. I'm just wondering if there is something missing from this puzzle. Surely there is something else that goes on so that we can be healthy without this huge need for potassium.. otherwise how do we survive when most people don't take in this quantity of potassium (and also don't get sugar cravings)? Hopefully someone will come up with an answer.
