Meal Prep & Freezer Meals | Family of 5 (Indian Recipes!)

244 ratings | 33917 views
Trying out meal prepping for my entire family. My family eats mostly Indian traditional food but we are trying to mix it up here and there with other items as well. Will be fresh freezing some of the items and keeping others in the fridge to use during the week. Hoping this helps me focus more on my business without worrying about dinner and cleaning up the kitchen every day. Containers I used: http://amzn.to/1svvuAi Meal Prep Containers we just ordered: http://amzn.to/1NFPKsX Shan Curry Packets: http://amzn.to/22m9uob (Sorry couldn't find exact one. In one of your video you said you don't eat nightshade veg. But you cooked potato with chick peas!
The Universe Guru (9 months ago)
This meal prep is for my family. I eat a separate diet from them.
Simply Cherie (1 year ago)
Thank you so much for this! I love Indian cuisine and will be trying these.
What really stood out for me is you only have to clean up once...so smart. I also love that you share Indian meals. We eat a variety of different cuisines and I feel that this is so much healthier. The other thing impressed me is that you are like us. We make the same food for our kids and ourselves. If you feed kids crappy american diet food they don't get appreciation for home cooked meals that are far better for them. Thank you for all the inspiration!

The cleaning up only once is a huge deal for me. As a work from home mom these daily chores ended up robing me of so much time! Thank you!

Mina thanks for this video. I was wondering if it was possible for Indian food. How do we fresh freeze? Is it done while hot or you cool it off? Do you keep the chole and the other things like bhendi in the fridge or freezer? This would definitley save my day and time. I was also suffering from the awful guilt of making food fresh else... I also had RA and am watching your RA video next.
shreezas (1 year ago)
+The Universe Guru please do not freeze it while it's hot!! It's a big no no. You need to cool it before you put them in the freezer. Bacteria grows when you do that. Worked in restaurant industry before so it's a big no in the guidelines to put anything in the freezer while it's still hot.

+Latha Lukose We freeze it while its still hot and everything except cooked potatoes goes on the freezer.

Thank you for this. Everything looks absolutely delicious! Does your husband heat his lunches in those plastic containers? I just don't trust that heating plastic is safe. Even if the manufacturers say microwave safe, common sense tells me that some kind of chemical can leach out. Just my two cents.:) I would rather be safe than hear in the coming years that it's bad for you. . Love your videos. Thanks so much for the rheumatoid arthritis video.... RA runs in my family too. It is good to know something works, because the meds are positively toxic, and they don't really work well.

hey mina now that you are not cooking everyday can you do a week clog on how your days are i think it would be very interesting also this cooking thing you do once a week i want to rry that 2 thank you for this video i hope its going ti make my week allot more easy.
The Universe Guru (2 years ago)
Definitely try it Prya - it's been a life saver. This week I ended up not meal prepping over the weekend and my whole week feels off. I instantly felt stressed on Monday morning. So definitely never going without meal prepping again.
KSPoppy Plans (2 years ago)
A friend recommended this video- I am SO glad she did! These meal preps look so simple - not to mention they look way more delicious than the "grilled chicken and rice" meal preps that I seem to see EVERYWHERE!!! I love that hummus you made-my kids eat hummus and veggies like most kids eat candy LOL
The Universe Guru (2 years ago)
+Southwind Technical Academy So glad you found this helpful! That's so amazing that your kids eat their veggies. Definitely have that hummus on hand always then! Literally took a min to make.
The Fundamental Home (2 years ago)
Oh my word! This video made me so hungry! I am definitely going to make the potato/chickpea curry. Preparedness is super helpful when it comes to keeping a tight grocery budget. I must share this video in the Frugal Family Food Facebook group!
The Universe Guru (2 years ago)
+The Fundamental Home Thank you Amanda! I thought I was doing good with my meal prepping but now I have taken it a step further with the ideas you shared. I love how you go through and plan your meals BEFORE heading out to shop. That's helping me finally dig into those pantry food stores.
Tashi Lhamo (2 years ago)
Thank you Mina, you are right that everyday cooking and cleaning makes you so stressful and exhausting. I feel the same even though m a housewife or SAHM. I love the meal prep idea. I will try it for sure. I need to make my life happier and easier. I love the idea of minimalism too. My life is treating me much happier after discarding lots of stuffs that we don't use . M still working on that. All inspired by you 🙏. Thank you . I love Indian food . I love all types of curries and rotis. Keep making more videos like that. Lots of love.
The Universe Guru (2 years ago)
+Tashi Lhamo thank you so much Tashi. So glad minimalism is helping sort out your life. So we have been meal prepping for the family for 3 weeks now. Life has definitely become a lot easier for me but I didn't notice a few con's and had to correct that. Let me do an update video so maybe others can see if this would work for them. A whole lot less cleaning up now, that's for sure.
Doyal Swamy (2 years ago)
hi Mina love ur videos 😍,can u pls pls make a more videos on gluten free indian meals ?
Doyal Swamy (2 years ago)
thanx a lot mina :)
The Universe Guru (2 years ago)
Hi Doyal - Thank you. Most Indian meals are gluten free. I don't make anything special - just don't eat them with bread and they are instantly gluten free.

Fresh freezing is the best. This was fun to watch. I need to try that aloo shan masala now, it'll come in handy for the holy month too. Is your background hyderabadi and your husband's memon? :)
The Universe Guru (2 years ago)
+simplylunar nope not even that far back. I learned that dish from a memon friends mom. we ate only urdu speaking. generations back I promise. :)
simplylunar (2 years ago)
lol I meant further down, like where your grandparents were from in India. Asking because you once made something with spaghetti with some sort of curry and other things...I don't know the name of it but my friend who moved here from Karachi told me it's something memons make and love and I remember you mentioned your husband loves it. :) And the hyderabadi part is because I hear Chicago has a massive hyderabadi-karachiite population. :) I know of all the things I could be thinking about here I am curious about your backgrounds lol.
The Universe Guru (2 years ago)
Thanks. No we are both just "urdu speaking."
