WP Thyroid Weight Loss: 55 pounds over 6 months with Before/After pictures

159 ratings | 15562 views
This video will walk you through a thyroid case study in which I show you how WP thyroid lead to weight loss in a patient of mine with before and after pictures. The combination of the right type of thyroid medication, plus managing hormones leads to significant weight loss in hypothyroid patients. Many patients wrongly believe that adding in thyroid medication will lead to significant weight loss and that is rarely the cause. In this example I walk you through: - How to decide which thyroid medication is best for your body, including going over the differences between WP Thyroid vs naturethroid vs armour thyroid - How to properly evaluate your blood tests to determine what is causing weight loss resistance in your body - How to address hormone imbalances other than hypothyroidism - What supplements to use to help with weight loss - How important diet, exercise and lifestyle interventions are for helping hypothyroid patients lose weight (hint: not as important as you may think) I use the lab results from this patient case study to show you how I look at hypothyroid patients including what lab values I use and what does of medication I use. I hope you find this article helpful as you try to lose weight with hypothyroidism! If you have any questions please leave them below. More information in the video and the full blog post can be found here: https://www.restartmed.com/wp-thyroid-weight-loss/ You can read more on my website here: https://www.restartmed.com/ This video is not intended to be used as medical advice. I'm 51 and have had a bunch of auto immune issues for years (thyroid, Raynaud's Syndrome, alopecia). I went to a naturopath 2 months ago and she has helped me tremendously! She ran a bunch of different blood work and I was able to find out that my thyroid anti-bodies were off the charts. She put me on Armour Thyroid and I'm down 7lbs. in a month. We also ran a full food allergy test (Attless Labs) and have eliminated any foods for a 8 week period that cause me inflammation. I didn't think I would have allergies to anything and was shocked to see how many I actually do have (mushrooms, olives, oysters, etc.). If any of you want to get your weight and thyroid under control, you MUST go see a naturopath, regular Dr's don't address these issues.

Why are you no longer accepting patients?
Nan Gee (12 days ago)
You're right. They are hard to find. I think I found one in Sun City West. I'm going to call shortly and make an appointment. I have a friend who goes to him and loves him because she finally feels better. She is taking Armor, I believe. Are you in the area?

Thanks for the reply Dr. Childs. It is much appreciated. It is so hard to find a good endo. here in Arizona. When I found your videos and saw you were near me I was so excited until I saw you weren't taking new patients :( Are there any endos. In Maricopa County you could recommend that think like you and are as knowledgable as you? I have Hashi, insulin resistant, tinitus, and other things as well as being menopausal (hot flashes, night sweats, etc.) and 30lbs over weight. I've been dealing with Hashis for more than 20 years now and would love to feel "normal" again.

I lost 20 kg in 3 months on keto diets and I take 100 g Tirosint I have hashimoto. First I heal my leaking gut I think that help a lot too. Of course I still don't eat gluten, sugar or milk products that help me to lose weight alot
Dawn S (5 months ago)
Did your diet help despite what type of thyroid medications you took such as the one your on or levothyroxine? I was gaining weight on Tirosint. I have never tried keto but do cut out gluten , dairy and refined sugars.

Hi, can someone please tell me where I find this medication. I need 81.25 but I'm told is in back order. Please help I can't find it anywhere in Florida.

Seriously can I be your next case study? I have no thyroid or gallbladder (idk if that makes any difference).... What tests should I be doing? currently my endocrinologist test TSH, Free T4, thyroglobuin, anti-thyroglobulin antibodies and calcium I'm on Syntharoid 175 mcg... Ive gained 56 lbs I'm emotional im tired and everything else. But I must be crazy too because I keep complaining and keep getting back that my bloodwork shows everything to be normal.

Is this medication like NDT?

Oh my GOSH!!!! I had no idea that your platelet count had anything whatsoever to do with autoimmune issues! I have Hashimotos (diagnosed nearly 20 years ago) and, although I am taking Armour for it, my platelet count is sky high. When I donate blood, they beg me to do platelets instead b/c they say I am worth 4 people coming in at once: the bag looks like it has 'butter' in it and the attendants always walk around showing & remarking in it to each other. (Makes me feel really uncomfortable.)

what if u don't have a thyroid?

Very informative.. but makes me sad. My current Doctor is not this thorough and I would give anything to have my blood test labs interpreted this well. I am struggling so bad with hypo symptoms and I don't know what to do.

I went on WP and didn't refrigerate it as it says it doesn't need to be. But I think this medication if in a warmer home (which mine is) tends to break it down and the meds become useless. I went back to regular westhroid

Does the patients continue on loosing weight? Or they just drop the pounds at first 6 months and then stop/plateau?
Miss Sha (1 year ago)
Problem is doctors don't know what they are doing. Hope they see your lectures and learn to think outside the box.
Dr. Westin Childs (1 year ago)
Patients reach plateau's at various stages through their weight loss, usually at around 20 pounds lost then again around 40 pounds. For some reason many patients also get stuck when trying to drop down from 200 pounds, so if you start at 210 you might reach a plateau at 200 despite only having lost 10 pounds. It happens to every patient trying to lose weight but as long as you know what you are doing you can break through the plateau.

I'm taking 1-1/4 grain of WP Thyroid (thyroidectomy ). since starting WP i get very hot and sweaty multiple times a day for the past 2 years. could T4 being below range cause this?
Dr. Westin Childs (1 year ago)
It could be due to hypothyroidism or due to too much T3, hard to say for sure without further info.
Sara LaMontine (1 year ago)
purple5flower I also take WP Thyroid and my doctor advised me that a rise in temperature is normal and a very common side effect of WP. I have not experienced the heat, however, I am only on 1/2 grain, so that could be why. ☺

I wish I could find a doctor that helps me my weight is out of control I'm at 209 and it's making me depressed
openyoureyes (4 months ago)
I know how you feel! I am in the same situation but I started using the Ketone diet and I'm now losing weight but it doesn't come off very fast. I"ve lost 8 pounds so far and here's the basic idea. NO bread, rolls, cookies or any type of flour, ever! No sugar!! Eat mostly veggies, and some fruit to a lesser extent and if you will do that you will lose weight. Also, drink water without Floride in it. Don't drink cola or coffee. No noodles or potatoes or rice.
Christina Rutherford (1 year ago)
KALISHIA POWELL + Me too! I have never been this size. I am on Armour thyroid and have been for 3 months. I have stopped drinking sodas and sweet tea, but I am still gaining weight.
Dr. Westin Childs (1 year ago)
The information I mention in this video will eventually be more common place because it's based on pharmaceuticals. The only problem is it takes about 17 years for data to make it from researchers to the hands of providers who actually will use it.
Mandiee Miliukas (2 years ago)
I have had hypothyroidism my whole life and have battled with my weight for so long I'm at the point of giving up ... my endocrinologist doesn't help me or answer my questions... I wish I had someone who actually knew what they were talking about. I neef guidance.
Dr. Westin Childs (1 year ago)
Hey Mandiee - the first step is to find someone who is willing to work with you. Fighting against someone or spending time trying to convince them of how you feel is largely a waste of time.
