Top 10 Best Automakers: 2018

695 ratings | 48610 views
These automakers have scored the highest with Consumer Reports. Ever wonder which automakers make the best vehicles? Consumer Reports is out to answer that question each year, searching for the automakers that produce reliable, high-performing models. The brand rankings are based on the publication’s vehicle testing, along with owner feedback on over 640,000 cars to determine the predicted reliability and owner satisfaction ratings. Each Overall Score is a composite of the road test score and the predicted reliability and owner satisfaction ratings from Consumer Reports‘ Annual Auto Survey. To keep things fair, brands are ranked based on the average overall score for all of their current test models. That means automakers with fewer models must really excel in order to perform well. Phuck Hugh (2 months ago)
Toyota ranked low because its vanilla and doesn't even have apple or android carplay. Lexus has more satisfactiomn because its a luxury toyota. Proche's are a status symbol and are semi-reliable so yeah.... Hondas are good except when their complicated CVT transmissions go there is a lot of labor costs involved in repair. Otherwisegreat cars with better engines than Toyota and more features for the price. I don't like this list. How does Consumer reports rank customer satisfaction. how many customers did they poll?

I've got a Toyota Yaris, Honda Civic is my favourite but insuring it was too costly for me as a young driver. I can't believe Kia is above Toyota and Honda though..... My dad drives a BMW but it's always costly to service and repair.

I wonder how much Kia and Hyundai paid consumer reports to include them in the list. Regarding Toyota and Honda, every sane person knows there're the best in the world so them being 9 and 10 doesn't mean jack

David Lam (7 months ago)
When it comes to best automaker I put emphasis on their product’s reliability. I don’t care if customers are satisfied with their driving experience as that is very subjective amongst all drivers. Amateur drivers want easy handling as more experienced drivers want an engaging driving experience. Due to the polarized spectrum of driving experience from all drivers, customer satisfaction is not a good measurement of an automaker’s ranking. Vehicles are tools of transportation and an investment. I want longevity in the tools I buy, not pleasure from use. If driving experience is what customers value then leasing cars would be better than owning cars...assuming they have the deep pockets needed for leasing cars every 2-3 years.

Genesis is not a Automaker it’s called HYUNDAI!!!!
Jeff McElveen (6 months ago)
BigDog Genesis is now a stand-alone brand. They are building galleries for Genesis there will not be a actual dealership you will order your vehicle online they will bring the vehicle to your home for you to test drive and to buy. Genesis will have their own factories they already have their own designers and engineers
Juan Esteban Haeckermann (6 months ago)
Okay the Lexus’ are Toyota’s, and Acura’s are Hondas
BigDog (7 months ago)
Jeff McElveen Genesis is a HYUNDAI made by HYUNDAI from a person that works at Hyundai!!! You don’t go to a Genesis dealership to get a Genesis you go to a Hyundai dealership, but they are trying to make it is on thing😂

Not right audi and Bmw never on top list on any other reviews for reliability always finish near the bottom not top
william deasy (4 months ago)
Tazmn Wilson I have seen a few and most of the time Japanese cars are way more reliable brands then Bmw or Audi
Tazmn Wilson (4 months ago)
Not true. Apparently you have not given close attention to Consumer Reports over the last 5 years. BMW's and Audis have been on the top 5 in reliability consistently.
william deasy (6 months ago)
evan h well Toyota and Lexus and Honda are by far a more reliable brands and that's a fact Audi are not
evan h (6 months ago)
Iv’e seen Audi in the upper end of several reliability lists, Kelly blue book, consumer reports etc. They track millions of repairs of all the brands. Audi is above average for reliability with above average owner satisfaction. I don’t know about number 2 but certainly in the top 5 of this list
william deasy (7 months ago)
Kommentator yes that's true but the same can be said for a Bmw or Audi owners I listen to costmer safaction and they do well in fact cheaper cars are more reliable don't get me wrong they are great cars but not perfect
ELPJM09 (7 months ago)
I don’t trust auto guide anymore. Toyota should be number one followed by Honda. There is no way Genesis is more reliable that Toyota/Lexus. It shows that auto guide is not a reliable source.

ELPJM09 what are you talking about Toyota and Honda are not what they used to be I had so many problems with my civic last year electrical problems that Honda dealerships refuse to fix Toyota with there terrible battery every time I had to go buy a need battery for that damn Corolla and it was a 2017 year model 😫
Average Joe (7 months ago)
Your list is full of shit! Really a waste of time to watch.
1mlb704 (7 months ago)
And this is a prime example why not to trust Consumer Reports. Audi, Porsche, and BMW do not belong anywhere near the "reliability" category. I'm sure they're great cars to the blokes who lease them new for two years, but for the rest of us who keep their cars longer and/or buy them used, brands like Toyota, Hyundai, Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, etc. are better options for longevity and reasonable cost of ownership.
1mlb704 (5 months ago)
Andres Saavedra The Corvette (Stingray, GS, Z06, ZR1), Camaro SS 1LE, Cadillac V series, Ford GT, Focus RS, Viper, and Challenger Hellcat are serious performance cars, everyone knows that
Andres Saavedra (5 months ago)
Those are performance cars and the USA has none
1mlb704 (7 months ago)
I've had my Grand Prix GTP coupe for 7 years (bought it in high school, drove it an hour to and from college every day, now I drive it two hours to and from work every day) it's at 170k miles and it's been a champ. Broke down on me once (water pump), the body has rust, and the valve cover gaskets needed to be replaced and that's it. The car has been excellent for me. A lot of GM's are hit or miss I think. My dad has had very good luck with his Chevys, Pontiacs, and GMC's but not everything they've made in the past 20 years has held up well. Also I work at a Ford dealership and our used car lot includes everything - Fords, Toyotas, BMW's, Audis, Volvos - everything. I'm the picture/internet marketing guy and I do a lot of runs/swaps so not only do I drive all of these used cars but I look at everything from the infotainment systems to what's under the hood for pictures. We have a used 2017 330i X-Drive on our lot with 7,000 miles on it. I drove it the other week and half way through my trip it gave me a check engine light and a warning: "Low oil pressure. Turn off car immediately and contact roadside assistance." We changed the oil and did a full safety check like we do with all our vehicles, turns out this piece of crap needed to go to a BMW dealership to have that warning erased and the oil changed again through some complicated process. And yeah not like I could just check the oil in the car - BMW is too good to put dipsticks in their cars anymore. Rubbish. Yeah Toyotas and Hondas aren't quite as good as they used to be and Fords and GM's have their issues, but those headaches don't even compare to crap you have to deal with in a used German car.
Bombstar (7 months ago)
I entirely agree that BMW, and slightly less so Audi don't deserve to be on that list. Porsche, are remarkably excellent compared to other German marques. I think Toyota plays on its rep a bit now. Anything GM touches should be nowhere near this list, only good thing I can think of are the older powertrains.
Kommentator (7 months ago)
1mlb704 Have you taken a look under the hood of any recent Toyota?? Look at that and tell me it's reliable. Half of the engine is plastic. When you pull off the engine cover, you can literally fold it in half, it's that bad! Nowadays, they just exploit their good reputation in order to squeeze out as much profit as possible.
Steve Wise (7 months ago)
Kia fell three spots. Hmm...Lexus/Toyota plummeted and I don’t know why that isn’t big news. They’re always at the top of the ranking. Audi! Seriously! Porsche! I guess people don’t mind spending a shit load of time in the shop.

Zuke (7 months ago)
Hyundai is #1 while Toyota ranks #10? Are we in some kind of Bizarro World or something? WTH? The customer satisfaction weighting vs. reliability seems like it should be teased out as its own score with reliability a separate score as well. Show me an owner with a 10 year old Hyundai who is happy vs. the happiness of an owner of a 10 year old Toyota and this would be completely opposite.
Ryoma Sakamoto (3 months ago)
They were corrupted by korean maker.
Chuckles9191991 (5 months ago)
Zuke I’m totally happy with my 2008 Sonata. I’ve never had to do anything to the car ,other than brakes and tires.

My brother is a tech for Hyundai, and he says they have warranty work as early as 500 miles on some cars and they are constantly putting in new engines. WTH
Landon Carter (5 months ago)
Zuke well I have a 10 year old hyundai and I'm happy with it so I guess that proves you wrong friend.
Joshua Eaton (6 months ago)
The problem with the list is that it takes into account consumer satisfaction reports. People can hate a car for something absolutely stupid simple and has no relevance to the actual reliability or the actual car itself but rather their own personal feelings on the matter. In order to make the list better they should take customer satisfaction completely out of it I agree on that
Jimmy Leveque (7 months ago)
Is this a joke?
Serge Vivier (7 months ago)
US makes money selling pickup trucks and a lot of it so they don't need to make good cars for a living.
Nan Xing (7 months ago)
I dumped consumer report long time ago. Their report provides no insight but only confusion. Their research is like a black box. You put in all sorts of data so it generates a magic score.

Didn't audi just recall like 300k cars for water pumps leaking and "potential fires?"
Limp Wibbler (7 months ago)
I was about to say. Atleast they called a recall many other manufactures have the same issue, but no cars have failed and they wont call a recall until someone dies. As per usual.
Kommentator (7 months ago)
That was a supplier issue.. by the way, the same supplier as quite a lot of japanese automakers
Jeff McElveen (7 months ago)
Ian R Genesis is up there so I guess that counts for a Hyundai
Ian R (7 months ago)

Seriously how do Audi and BMW have good reliability???
Marrysville Dashcam (7 months ago)
J I could understand Audi but BMW O please terrible piece of junk😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭!
Tech Pappee (7 months ago)
A few complaints I see because your favorite brand didn't place as high as you think it should have. CR used the same method they always use to determine the outcome. You dont get to change the standards to make your purchase feel better to yourself. I see several commenters trying just that. Results are results. Take Kia for instance, JD Power also awarded them best initial quality the last two years (17/18). Not Honda or Toyota but Kia. Is CR and JD in cahoots with each other all of a sudden? No theyre not. EDIT: here is the link to CR report... https://youtu.be/NAEst11SEXQ

ReyXtractor 2018 not 1995 buddy
Marrysville Dashcam (7 months ago)
ReyXtractor ion and the weren’t reliable when they were Hyundai this is bullshit.
Elvis Vielma (7 months ago)
Luxury brands don’t make cars to be reliable, any car enthusiast knows that, and if you are not a car enthusiast just search for used bmws, Audis etc and you’ll see that as soon as the factory warranty expires, people get rid of them because they just turn into money pits waiting for incautious buyers to be resold for under 15k.
Elvis Vielma (6 months ago)
My beautiful and amazing Princess thanks! My first hater ;)
Elvis Vielma You're not a car enthusiast and you don't have any credibility or authority to speak for a group. You're just some pitiful dumb idiot
Kommentator (7 months ago)
Elvis Vielma As soon as you started with "any car enthusiast knows" you lost all credibility. If there is one group of people who know nothing about reliability, it is 9jr old Nissan Gtr fanboys.
averagejoe (7 months ago)
All I learned from this laughably useless and pointless video is few Genesis owners have actually checked how much their "luxury" saloon has depreciated in the used car market so far yet. Also how in the world can Tesla, a mere unprofessional startup that's deceptive and already collapsing, be the 8th best automaker?
Puff the Magic Dragon (7 months ago)
I'm sorry, subaru ranking above Toyota, ford etc? I call bs on that, their reliability sucks compared to those brands. Them again, maybe their owner satisfied makes up for it.
EllysaE (7 months ago)
Puff the Magic Dragon my Subaru went 17 years until we sold it. I have no complaints. I bought another. It’s only got 17,000 km but so far 0 issues. Here is Canada that AWD is absolutely worth it.
Limp Wibbler (7 months ago)
Ford? From where I live Fords are the notorious shit shows. Why nobody near buys one unless they need a Truck.
Nan Xing (7 months ago)
Jonathan A Subaru's engines have been problematic for a long time. Even the new models still burn oil like crazy.
Jonathan A (7 months ago)
Puff the Magic Dragon I believe Subaru mainly had oil leaks and gasket failures. But they’ve fixed them a couple years ago. The newer model have been fine. A neighbor of mine, had 2012 Forester and had the internal oil leak. She traded it in for a 2016 model and no problems. My mother and I share a 2010 Fusion which now has 168,000 miles. Still runs and goes, but has had a lot of things break on it. Had to put a lot of money into it. So it depends
Puff the Magic Dragon (7 months ago)
Jonathan A I'm not saying all subarus are unreliable, far from it, many of them, perhaps the majority are very reliable, but the same is true for Toyota and ford. My experience with subaru has just been negative. Every ford my family has owned has been flawless even with 3, 4, 500k on them. The subarus my family has owned have all had engine issues before 60k.
Atheeb Ahamed (7 months ago)
