Dr. Berg talks about ketosis and diarrhea. Your body is probably not used to the amount of saturated fat you are consuming. Saturated fats will trigger bile. Bile is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder. Bile salts are used to break down fats. People that don't eat that many saturated fats will not have that much bile. Cut down on of fat you consume, so your body gets used to it. Bile will adjust, and diarrhea will stop.
Hey guys, I want to do a short video on Ketosis and diarrhea. First of all, one thing that you are add that probably not had in your diet is more saturated fats, the fat especially saturated fats will trigger bile. Bile is produced in the liver and stored in the Gallbladder and is needed to breakdown fats. The big trigger is saturated fats, so people that don’t have a lot of saturated fats don’t have as much bile. Bile is the lubricant and it makes the colon lubricated so if you have too much of it then you will have diarrhea. What you are going to do is to simply cut down the amount of fat so your body can get used to it, the bile will adjust and the diarrhea will go away. If you have diarrhea and then obviously the Kale shake that you just consumed, then we know that’s a different situation where we know that you can’t digest that Kale. Anything that comes through you undigested is something that you have to avoid until you can figure out what to eat. But you have alternate what you eat to maybe some vegetables that you can digest.

I am having massive diarrhea with keto diet.. i don't even eat a lot of saturated fat. I had diarrhea when i had low carb diet(not keto diet degree) before too.

I have had diarrhea every single day since doing keto. It's very easy to come out and its miserable. Occasionally it will be a normal bowel movement but it's rare. I take 8 fiber pills a day and eat a ton of tomatoes and greens.
I am having constant diahhrea --on diet 12 days now. Watched a lot of you tube videos this morning, and gelatin seemed to be a big help. Unflavored beef gelatin by Great Lakes company I think? Has collagen in it.There is a nice video on making gummies with it. I'm heading to Sprouts. I really wanted to reply to your comment though, because you said you eat a "ton" of tomatoes. I cut fresh tomato out of my diet years ago, when I finally put 2 and 2 together that they cause diarrhea for me. Have had no issues since-until starting keto that is. I miss them a lot, but tomatoes have a LOT of acid in them, and some of us just can't tolerate it.

I am on the Keto and intermittent fasting for 3 weeks already, so happy that I found your videos! I am the one who has diarrhea from kale shake and I don't have gallblader. Please educate, how to consume more veggies and how to fix digestive problem. Thank you very much!!!
Ketosis cured me of my diahrreah. Squirts every third day at least for about 2 years. Tried lots. No dairy. No fats. Thought it was the grease. Started keto for other reasons. Squirts gone. Was it the frankenwheat? Ill never know cause I aint going back. Feel too damn good.
Well I am envious, because I was a very regular girl until I started Keto. On day 12 and have had awful diarrhea/loose stool, bloating and abdominal pain every day since starting. Getting very discouraged, but did see some suggestions on youtube I will try out.

Thank you Dr Berg. I didn't know that about saturated fat. I've learned a lot from you and recommend your videos to others. I tried to call you on one of your question and answer shows but didn't get through. One strange thing that has happened to me over the years is insomnia from not eating enough and not eating at regular times. I generally try to keep my calories around 1700-1900 because of this and luckily I've been able to lose weight over time doing 4 years of low carb and almost 2 years of mostly keto but I'd love to be able to get my calories lower (maybe 1500) and still be able to sleep. From the research I've done, I'm guessing it has something to do with adrenals/blood sugar (I know adrenal issues can go hand in hand with hypothyroidism) but I would love to learn more. I've tried IF too (just 14 not eating/10 eating ) and that also caused insomnia. I would think that doing keto for so long would have balanced my blood sugar.

As the rule goes: 5 mg Magnesium per pound of body weight puts me at 1125 mg of Magnesium which gives me symptoms described above.
800 mg Magnesium per day seems to work best for my 225 lb. body.

JoKeSoNu 1, I am trying to stick to almost strictly meat & I have a quick WHOOSH when I sit. It is like water. THey keep telling me I will adapt. I hope they are right. I want those small, odorless clean turds, the kind that when you wipe, you see nothing on the TP you laid them so clean. Have you learned anything new in this issue?
Can you do a video on Potassium Lactate, Sodium Diacetate, and Sodium Nitrite? I see ingredients like these all the times in food and I avoid them. Can you please educate us on these added ingredients?
Boy, did I need this. Was on Keto for 6 weeks, lowered my blood sugar from 248 down to low 120's but had to stop since the diarrhea was so bad. Even Imodium wouldn't stop it for long. I got dehydrated, leg cramps, so run down. It's been 2 weeks since off Keto but I need to get back on since blood sugar is slowly climbing up. I thought it was fats causing it. I'll start out slow with the fats and restart the Keto plan.
JJ C. -- I wasn't eating gluten, absolutely no carbs except for vegetables or dairy. I know I'm lactose intolerant so I take Lactaid if I eat dairy but I knew it was something else causing it. I was thinking the high fats. I know my body doesn't handle carbs at all, I may be gluten intolerant, I'll have to test that out when I feel like eating bread. But for now I'll be doing lower fat Keto and each week up the fat. Just for the blood sugar control this diet is so worth it. Good luck to you.
