Pro tip: When changing the tire, loosen the lug nuts a little before you jack the car up. The weight of the vehicle will help keep the tire still so you can apply enough torque to loosen the nuts. Then jack it up, and loosen the rest of the way. I like to put a little bit of weight on the jack first, then loosen the nuts, then jack up all the way to get the tire off. That takes a little of the weight off the wheel and onto the jack while you are loosening the log nuts, but keeps enough weight there so the tire does not spin around.

As an ASE certified mechanic I agree with all the advice in this video. I would add that staying on top of your vehicles maintenance schedule is the key factor in avoiding expensive repairs and extending the life of your vehicle. I recommend using a good car maintenance and management program www.lonewolf-software.com/automotivewolf.htm on your computer to track your maintenance schedule and remind you when anything needs to be checked or replaced. It will also create an excellent vehicle maintenance log that you can use to quickly sell your vehicle when the time comes.

I do all the maintenance on my 3 vehicles. I just follow the recommended maintenance schedules for each vehicle. I use a cool program on my laptop called Automotive Wolf www.automotivewolf.com to track each vehicles schedule and remind me when to check things or replace something like the oil, plugs, filters etc. All 3 vehicles have over 100K miles without any major repairs. This software also makes a comprehensive car maintenance log and even tracks the parts and expenses to run each vehicle. If you want to keep your car running well and avoid repairs just follow the maintenance schedule.

Checking engine fluids is a basic car maintenance practices and very important too. However, once in a while have your mechanic take a look to make sure everything is in order.

Why is it that mechanics allways think there way is right and only way? SMH...

What about the radiator coolant? can we use normal water at that radiator?
Tal (6 months ago)
only if you live in a hot climate, that water will freeze in the winter and ruin your engine. radiator coolant has ethylene glycol added to water which decreases the freezing point
