I have low energy levels, losing strength strength, painful muscles, fatigue,.. doctors said i have hypothyoridism and now i take euthyrox daily. I think i have those symptoms from when i started with intermittent fasting. Should i stop with it or continue? I love this man. I continue to feel so much better after taking his advice. My thyroid test continues to come back normal. I thank God I found his videos. I have not bought any of his products, but just followed his advice on staying away from carbs, sugar, taking iodine, taking certain supplements, and other things he suggested from his videos in regards to thyroid issues.

Love how nearly all the "professionals" think it's just that easy to keep your thyroid from crapping out on you. I do Atkins, I gain. I do IF, I gain. The only thing that works is finding a Dr. that is willing to get your T3 levels up to 3/4 of the reference range and work your butt of 10 times harder than the average person with weights. But wait, make sure you don't have any stress in your life, Always get 8 hours of sleep, constantly have your vitamin D checked, magnesium, vitamin B and take pills for your adrenals. It's not as simple as what you have on your fancy white board, sir.
What happens if you do not have a thyroid due to thyroid cancer? Mine was removed years ago.

I have been on the Keto diet for almost seven weeks. I have lost several inches off my body (even the stubborn fat). I have hypothyroidism and I take medication for this condition. Everyone talks about the increased energy and mental clarity they garner from this diet. I'm still having the opposite effect. I went through the Keto flu stage and I would think that by now it has passed. I am very lethargic and the memory fog is significant. I am a Type II diabetic and I have not had one hypoglycemic attack!!! They were happening bi-weekly. So there are some positive changes, but the exhaustion and feeling like I have mild dementia have me ready to quit. Any feedback or ideas?

DR BERG thank you so much 😊 PLS CAN YOU ANSWER MY Q? I have a hypothyroid & have been doing HIIT & Strength training 5 mornings a week for the past few months. I happily eat only twice a day but my question is do I need to eat my first meal straight after a workout? I’m not hungry until around midday but I hear over & over to eat protein carbs fats after a workout to help with muscle repair & growth. Will it make my metabolism worse if I wait a few hrs after exercise to eat & will my muscles still benefit if I’m not eating protein immediately??? I would like to know also. in one of his video he did mention you don't have to eat before during or after your workout, you eat when you get Hungry, However I don't know if that applies to people with hypothyroidism which I too have, so I would like to know also. and also how much protein should we have would it be different from people without hypothyroidism or is it the same amount 0.4x your bodyweight which he mentioned in another video

fasting (on water or vegetables) is different than starvation when someone is fat. starvation is when u hv no fat storage left to run your body. with my underative thyroid I went through fasting on veg and lost a stone. now I need to do it again to go to my 59kg weight. intermittent fasting did not help unfortunately in my case. needed to go into ketosis (vegan , whole foods plant based)

I don't have my gall bladder, I had it taken out 22 years ago, and I also had a complete hysterectomy done 14 years as well. Dr. Berg, what can I eat or do to have good T3 and T4 levels? I am suspecting that something is wrong with my thyroids, because I am gaining weight, hair and eyebrows falling, plus I am having anxiety, fear and feelings of depression. I keep asking my doctor to do a thyroids test but he keeps saying that I don't need it because my last regular blood work seems to be okay! Dr Berg HELP!

Thanks soooo much :-) FYI, my liver is suffering, then I have stress supreme, but I can't get rid of that, without dumping my g/f... such is life huh? lol I'm going to start taking sea kelp again and make more Miso Soup... He talks about bile that is responsible for conversion. And since gallbladder makes bile more concentrated, so it converts your thyroid hormones more efficiently. When you don't have gallbladder anymore but still biles are releasing from liver, you will have your thyroid conversion but not as efficient as when you had your gallbladder. So it's the bile for thyroid, not gallbladder.

Hi Dr. Berg, new to your site. I have had two major concussion, one many yrs ago, the other this past summer, still doing stuff and taking certain supps. A few days after my bike accident, I did go into ketosis, but wasnt a big task as my diet is HFLC anyway. I didnt measure but I did experience the clarity and energy type of euphoria people talk about, and my appetitie had disappeared though I continued eating HF in much lesser quantity. My ketosis was predominantly elicited by fasting. My problem is I would like to go into cyclical ketosis by intermittent fasting (still not too comfortable with exogenous ketones), but I have Hypothyroid,and likely Hashi (but no elevated antibodies in bld labs, but that dosent mean much). Recently I went off the combo levothyroxine and NDT and am on a trail of increased NDT, so far I believe I'm feeling marginally better. Getting back to IF, what is your definition of this and does it include the longer fasts of 3-4 days. I do about 14-16 hrs, but with my concussion history and other health issues, I would really like to try a 3 or 4 day fast. I am a little intimidated because of the thyroid thing. I dont want to make matters worse. Wouldn't a 3-4 day fast inevitably put the body into a type of starvation mode, really dialing down metabolism. I am personally not over weight, struggle to keep mass on at times. 3-4 day fasts seem to be a big bang for the buck in terms of staving off metabolic disease and also a big one for me is brain health. The whole thyroid thing puts a wrench in the keto/fasting style because I get a lot of conflicting information, or incomplete. Many say as far a s thyroid goes keto and LF are even very harmful. I dont know if keto style is suitable in a clinical environment, yet, because it affects everyone so differently, its almost as if anyone with an existing metabolic challenge, ie thyroid condition, needs a coach as definitions seem so operational at this point. If I would do a 3-4 day fast, should I start with 24 hrs and build up, or just go for it? The other big wrench in this is that I am pretty active, that can really upset the insulin cart. When I went into ketosis aft my accident, I was not moving around too much which made ketosis easier, for me anyway, like I mentioned, i am not overweight at all. I do share a common fear of fasting and loosing mass, not something I would want. Can you or other direct me in any way or reassure me that fasting will not make my thyroid worse. I do take the selenomethionine 200 mg, dont take iodine, was sensitive 2 yrs ago, but maybe now that using selenium I should retry. Also take 250-300 mg l-tyrosine. Thanks Dr. Berg

I have hypothyroid had thyroid surgery 2005. And am on Synthroid , and am bad eater I usually have hot oatmeal in the morning, then maybe if I do fill hunger it already 5. And I do workout went I do a hard work out then I do a slim fast shake because I do fill hungry.. it been hard for me to lose weight especially since also have a left bad knee it ten to slow me down .. so am at a lost on how to speed up my weight lost .. help! 😊

Hola Dr. Berg, I have a video request! You conducted many very detailed videos on intermittent fasting and its something I started to practice. BUT what is your opinion on prolonged water fasting? Im talking like 48+ hours. Cell apoptosis has been shown to be present on the third day. Ive done some research on the "ultimate reset" mode this enables in your body. I would value your opinion on clearing up some things with the endocrinology involved and what is necessary to maintain a healthy fast. (I heard electrolytes are key.) Also, please breakdown how your body may respond to going into starvation mode due to a low calorie diet or intermittent fasting. I have a question Dr Berg, i been following a ketogenic diet for about 2 months now, i was loosing weight but extremely slow, i started having severe muscle spams went to see my Dr and my tsh was at 100 she diagnosed me with hypothyroidism, gave me levothyroxine 125mg and it help, it made all my muscles spams go away and i have recently seen the diet working, i am loosing 1.5 to 2 pounds per week. 2 months before during my yearly physical exam my tsh was within a normal range, the only thing that changed was my diet. My question is could the keto diet had affected my thyroid because i was eating below my calories allowed per day, i was eating one meal per day sometimes getting around 700-900 calories per day because i was just not hungry, i think the increase of fat in my diet was making me feel fuller for longer periods of time.

For some reason by body doesn't react well to fasting and I usually gain weight if I try to fast too much. I think it might be the stress causing my cortisol to spike.  The most I can go is 12 hours but I usually only last 8 hours. I'm following my hunger cues. I don't eat snacks but I do eat mainly 3 times a day which, I know, most keto'ers only eat 1 or 2 times a day. I have lost 80 lbs so far but I've been stalled for months and have at least another 60 lbs to lose. It's curious to me because I exercise with hiking for up to 5 hours and weight lifting 5 days a week. Should I be forcing myself to intermittent fast even when I'm hungry?

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. I was low on B-12, Selenium, Vitamin D3, to name a few. I blanked out on a number of occasions and had a lot of muscle and joint pain, that seemed to move around. After being diagnosed, I did a lot of research as I was out of work and could not keep up with the nutritional doctor/chiropractic, and over the years, despite the Hashimotos, lost weight, but I was determined to find my way and not with medication. I went off of the carbs: breads, pastas . . . all the things I enjoyed, and as I would have relapses, I would take note as to what seemed to trigger the pain. Today, if I ingest something I am not sure of its ingredients, I can, in a couple of days, be notified by my body under no uncertain terms, not to eat that again. I stay away from carbs, sugars, and stay with using a Vitamix for my greens intake, salmon, grass-fed beef, chicken breasts, sweet potatoes, and steamed broccoli, Omega 3 oils, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil (organic), and I use Dulse -- a type of seaweed, iodine, and sublingual B-12 and D3 . . . and try other items cautiously -- trying always to keep the digestive track in good shape with probiotics, extra enzymes, if needed, and I have learned to develop a taste for those things that seem to support my health. My motivation is feeling good or bad -- I choose good. Also, I have gotten back to exercise at the gym and my energy has improved. Overall, my skin has improved, my scalp, my tongue has lost any candida, and my pain management is under control for the most part. I even gained back my ability to sleep much better. The goal is to live a quality life and not allow the medical and pharmaceutical agenda control you, destroy your life. I praise the Lord Jesus Christ for His help and for leading me in the right paths . . . and I thank Dr. Berg for much help indirectly for also helping tremendously.

Ib pr If your hair is falling out and your symptoms are not improving on the dose of thyroid medicine your dr/np says is “standard” then you need to demand an THYROID ANTIBODIES test right away and make sure your hypothyroid is not actually caused by Hashimotos disease. Heads up, most docs don’t care if you have Hashimotos because they say “it is treated the same” and they DO NOT usually test for it after you test positive for hypo. HOWEVER if you are in fact positive for Hashi’s you will want to get an endocrinologist ASAP. They actually treat Hashi’s at a higher dose of thyroid meds then your GP will EVER prescribe and it will basically do NO GOOD to take too low a dose which is for hypothyroid. My endocrinologist doubled the dose my GP had been giving me that was “standard” or “within normal limits” and my hair FINALLY stopped falling out. He also said by not being properly diagnosed I spent seven years basically not even being treated at all because the level of meds was worthless for Hashimotos.

This is glorious, I been tryin to find out about "the ultra thyroid solution book" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Yannabarn Vanish Thyroid - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my mate got great success with it.

I just recently got diagnosed with hypothyroid and I am going from doctors to doctors but none of them gave me even the basic advices on nutrition or anything. But I am noticing how my hair is falling a lot since I got on thyroid. Did you by any chance have any issues with that?

Hey doc I've started taking the adrenal kit, have also started the intermittent fasting. but not sure what the rules are. i dont eat a lot so how will i get my calories in with just one meal for the day? I dont want to have more than one meal. can you or someone assist me with a meal plan as to what a one time meal for the day looks like. Thank you and keep up the good work.

How low is a real low thyroid? Mine is a pitiful 1.2. The dr says it's not low enough to treat., but I feel awful!

Hi Dr berg, i have hypothyroidism and i take synthroid everyday do i need to worry about all these supplements? I am definitely having issue losing weight i been on keto for 4 months and my weight is stuck between 137 to 140. It fluctuates 3-4 pounds on daily basis

Hi Dr. Berg, I live in a place up the mountains where there's very little iodine in the environment. I suspect that because of that and that I was a vegan who ate high amounts of carbs and soy amongst other factors, I developed a cyst in my left breast. I read the article you adviced on another video about iodine and I've taken 2 or 3 drops of Lugol a day with two supplements in the morning: One has 100mcg Selenium with 4000 UI Vitamin E, 80 mg Ginko Biloba and 100 mg Magnesium and a Selenium Supplement of 200mcg from Alfa (1 of each). Then at night I take another pill of the pill from Alfa. However, in the past 2 days I've been extremely sleepy after breakfast and end up taking a nap that tends to last from 1 to 2 hours. I'm on holiday for the moment so it's ok for now, but I'm a bit worried I'll be this sleepy also when I get back to work when I can't take a nap during the day. What am I doing wrong? Am I taking too little Lugol?
