Faking It | Originally broadcast November 7, 2014 The better the reviews, the more we trust a business. And for companies that means a better bottom line. In a months-long investigation, we went undercover posing as a new business, and discover how companies can buy a positive reputation online. We reveal an entire industry devoted to helping businesses mislead you. Host Erica Johnson reveals how cheaters pull it off, and how you can spot a faker. If they edit your review. It makes me wonder if they are looking for the public's opinion of their product. These business practices is so damn shady

Reviews. I always look at one star comments first

Amazon censors almost all negative reviews regardless of whether it's a valid complaint on a product you brought on their website! If it's a glowing review of a product they will post it 100% of the time. I mostly write positive review but I also want to make potential customers know that a company is shady or sells an inferior product but Amazon won't allow me to do so!

Don’t look at positive reviews, look for negative ones. If they complain about something, it’s probably bad. If they skip a detail, it’s probably fairly good.

I don’t understand why this channel doesn’t have millions of subscribers. Atleast one million? If Tana Mongeu can have 3.3 million why can’t a legitimate investigative journalism channel get atleast one million? I get that they’re a TV show but they’re entertaining on YouTube.

I always filter reviews for negative and neutral reviews. never trust positive, especially if it's 100% positive feedback.

But no one cares about endorsements? Famous people who love things that are bad for us?...They pre-date the internet by about 100 years....I don't like it, but these people are no worse than celebrities in commercials.
I’m 15 and I make video games and when I launched my mini company the top reviews poured in three hours after launch

I was paid a lot of money (full attorney's fees refund) to remove an honest negative review. I didn't actually profit from this, but I got my money back after a terrible experience. This lawyer literally didn't show up to court which had massive consequences for me that took a long time to fix. Said lawyer was hired for a non criminal issue. I'm not out felonizing in my free time ;-).
What’s the difference between this kinda thing and Lebron James saying that he drinks Sprite when he’s thirsty???

I buy mostly on experience not on reviews. My 30 yrs of experience served me well because most of these produces are from the same companies that I have used before. Such as Hp products and dell products. Hp can have as many good reviews as they can but I never believe them because I have used their products and I already know. However, I will always trust Dell even if they have bad reviews because I have used their products and know how good it is.
Dag Koj (1 month ago)
I mostly checked for numbers of reviews. The more reviews they have the more I trust them. If a place have good reviews but not as many then I won’t trust it on the other hand if you have not many reviews but some bad ones then I won’t mind as much as the one with less reviews.

U can’t trust anyone for anything now a days. What a joke our society is today. Everyone is out to steal everything from everyone. We need stronger laws and better enforcement for online stuff. Hell we need it for everything. I can’t believe this 💩

did she say they used a view bot?
How easily can you buy a reputation? Not easily at all. Cheating as a business creates the culture of accepting it, and creates an employee culture of it as well, which costs companies bottom line massively. And that isn't even considering the massive backlash and destruction caused if and when you get caught. Robert Cialdini has several case studies referenced in his book "Pre-Suasion" about how much it costs businesses in the long run to create such dishonest and deceptive cultures.

I always check reviews from lowest to highest. I work in hospitality so I know usually how to tell who is whiney and who was reviewing honestly. In the end I read most all reviews of not all reviews with a grain of salt. It's all you CAN do. Past that you take the chance no matter what.

I work in Booking.com, not the happier employee but, I do have to admit, the reviews in our website are 100% real. If you book and then CXl (this mean you did not stayed) u will not be able to write a review. Nothing, just that. And please read reviews...I am bored of people complaining about 5.0 out of 10 points properties, lol.

WEARETHEAACP (2 months ago)
Fact is; half the time only negative reviews are the ones that get posted, when a person has a positive experience, they say nothing. Negative reviews get posted when some whiner that was probable wrong or assumed something in the first place wants to feel like a victim. As far as i am concerned if a company has 100,000 sales - no good reviews and 3 bad reviews; that means they entitled have 99,997 good ones. So if they pay for 15 good reviews to outweigh the bad ones, so what.

well i actually write stories in my reviews and people buy negative reviews too .
Michelle W (2 months ago)
I write reviews for free. Actually the do cost me to do them because I buy things with my own money and do the reviews if I really hate or really love the item. So, anything in between I don't bother. My desire is to help. I hate greed and lies. But, why should you trust me? Seeing the review via video really opens up a new era in my quest for truth.
