I drove trucks for 20 years and they rode like a top of the line Caddy compared to my RAV4. They are dependable but the absolute worst suspension imaginable. I've owned 2 brand new but never again will I buy one. I go out of my mind when I drive my wife's car it drives me crazy. Goodbye Toyota.

Took my 2005 manual awd Element in for maintenance recently. They gave me a 2018 CRV loaner. Had it all day. Other than very comfortable seats in the CRV couldn't wait to get back into my Element. Better road feel, handled better, quieter (my Nokian tires maybe), better visibility all around, more room, better stereo, easier to park, better turn radius and could put more stuff in it if I had too. Honda motors co.are a bunch of idiots for not improving and/or turning the Element into a true off road capable vehicle.

Huh? Other review said CRV got bigger cargo capacity than Rav 4 and MPG is 33 which is higher than 31 of Rav 4. Where he get wrong information??? So unreliable

Rav 4 the best...

The CR-V is easily best in class - I dropped CReports, their ratings are not that reliable
2:08 They show a Mazda cx5 stopping, not a Rav 4

I traded my 2014 Crosstrek in for a 2018 Forester in October. It's the best trade in I've ever made =)

They don’t want to talk about the cry because they know it beats all these cars I had my 2016 crv and I have not had any problems

Biased review -- no Mazda CX-5.

Why do you Americans call all these small SUVs? For example seems to me Audi Q5 (and other similar sized Suvs) are the normal/medium size, Q7 is the large and Q3 is the small one. Or is everything smaller than a Hummer called small in US?
denault3985 (8 months ago)
The RAV4 is looking so old and tired, just because Toyota added safety systems makes it your top pick? Did you look at the interior???

Yo where is the Honda crv

CR-V not on the list? Yeah right! Only the best selling CUV on the market. Consumer reports is just so out of touch with actual consumers.

WHAT ABOUT THE CRV
Bitemyshinny Metalass (11 months ago)
I am looking for a small awd SUV with a v6 engine for under $10 thousand . Any suggestions. looking for vehicle year's 2002-2010. prefer to get the higher trim vehicles.

Bitemyshinny Metalass Any suv Infiniti’s , the v6 rav4 , Lexus RX

I feel like Mike had more fun at Edmunds- this one is just too serious.
Indrid Cold (11 months ago)
These are not SUVs. These are crap box crossover vehicles based on minivans and flimsy cars. There is a difference and the announcer of the vision does not know it. How credible can he be if he does not know what he is talking about.
howlingwolf125y (4 months ago)
Kinda agree.. Every current model SUV's is now really a crossover or hatchback. They are now made lower to the ground and that is a shame. I like the older SUV's of years ago that sit up higher, with good visibility and more headroom. I wish auto manufacturers would go back to the higher stance yet make them more quiet and smooth riding. Oh, and please make stick to a more traditional dashboard (and controls) design with standard, traditional (non electric) shifters. The current trend of hi-tech push button everything dashboard/controls design is a deal breaker for me. I refuse to buy anything like that.
95thRiflesOCI (1 year ago)
The Rav4 feels like a rock when it goes around the city. I feel and hear every single imperfection in the road.
Thomas M (4 months ago)
It's basically a truck, a small one at that, keeping wheels tight on the road, we have one and it gets around fine.. Get an Escalade if you want comfort, lol.
Francisco Vázquez (1 year ago)
what about Honda CRV ???
Altimus Samuels (1 year ago)
The Honda CRV is much better than the Subaru forester, more reliable ,longer lasting engine any day
falcon64z8 (1 year ago)
Wheres the crv love? I have a 2014 crv fwd and it get average 29mpg only 2 down from a hybird rav4. And its interior space is the best in its class in how roomy it is.
Oceanic Flight (1 year ago)
I'm surprised the Escape sells well, that SUV is ugly
DirectX3 (1 year ago)
Forgot to mention the Mitsubishi Outlander. A small compact crossover with medium off road capability and 7 passenger seats and equips with pre collision warning features, etc.
Daniel Carl (1 year ago)
the market is flooded with SUVs if you're looking to not be the basic bitch out there don't get a SUV. never thought I'd see the day where a station wagon shows you're different and cool
Shao Yu Mai Wang (1 year ago)
No surprise that this segment has grown so much. Most car manufacturers don't offer wagons at all and hatchbacks only rarely, so what is someone to do if they want utility nowadays and they don't want a Subaru or a VW at the low end of the market? These things are all hideous but have some practicality. Unfortunately they also have crap handling, inflated price tags, and worse fuel economy than sedans and theoretical wagons. Thanks, carmakers. BMW, which barely sells any cars in North America compared to the giants of the industry, manages to sell wagon, hatchback, coupe, gran coupe, and sedan versions of the 3 series, but the big manufacturers give us no choice at all within most segments. So much for real choices being available.
nlpnt (1 year ago)
"Automated Emergency Braking" is a bit of a misnomer since it uses the "regular" (service) brakes, not the "emergency" (parking/hand)brake. That being said, you should ding any car that intersperses any automated system between the driver and the parking brake. It needs to be the last failsafe to bring the car to a stop in case of complete electrical/hydraulic system failure.

VW Tiguan ?

biri klo VW suck. Crap reliability. I've had two and they both have had major issues. Will never buy another

Where the hell is the cx5 and CRV? Fail Fu King video
Chris Smith (1 year ago)
The Best You you failed to understand that the CR-V is testing right now
Rixter (1 year ago)
That was a pretty misleading title. Useless video too
Richard Jimenez (1 year ago)
My 2014 Mazda CX 5 is just as god if not better than the Rav. Toyota seemed to nickel and dime us regarding options and the gas mileage was better than CR is indicating on the Rav. Happy with our choice. Next up is the Outback for some camping ⛺️
Sam S (1 year ago)
I find it interesting that they give bonus points for automatic forward collision across the line, the newly redesigned RAV4 they talk about here still is outperformed by the older Subaru Forester. Only the Forester gets an Excellent rating, everything beneath it scores Very Good or worse. For those wondering where the Honda CRV is, their webpage says "In Testing" at the bottom of the ratings - so they could not mention it here when putting together the best of the small SUVs.
Chris Smith (1 year ago)
Sam S screw the RAV4. i want the previous generation. hate the design on this one
Jorge Rodriguez (1 year ago)
Where is the Mazda CX5 or CRV in this comparisom? this is a weird comparisom without them, in the fuel efficiency(taking the hybrids aside) CX5 is the best with their SkyActiv Engines, it also handles great, has decent space and looks way nicer than the rest. And CRV is selling like hotcakes
Dee George (1 year ago)
Jorge Rodriguez Mazda salesman much?
Riccardo Isidore (1 year ago)
What about the Mazda CX-5 is it not the most fuel efficient small suv after the Toyota RAV4 hybrid?
Eric Haynes (1 year ago)
CR finally have a great auto editor. Mike Monticello is a big step up from the others at Consumer Reports.
Chris Smith (1 year ago)
Let all the Honda people cry in tears cause the CR-V hasn't been on the list. The CR-V is brand new people! It needs to do more testing before CR puts it on the list. Geez!
1983jackjones (1 year ago)
CRV ??? That's Rav 4 reports not consumer reports !
Vino Zorolla (1 year ago)
No CRV? They forget to report what the consumers are buying.

I rented brand new Ford Escape and I'm like it's not bad it's quiet ... til i fucking hit the highway omg noise was coming from everywhere windshield side glass.. it was like driving something that's made in 1998 and had 300 000 miles .. I couldn't believe it for brand new car
STAR AXE (1 year ago)
Marchelo DeFacto not for me it was quite on the highways this was a '15 escape but I also had the A/C on a lot because it's hot just returned it yesterday.
superwangwei3630 (1 year ago)
Subaru Forester hands down
Amos Soma (1 year ago)
They omitted the CR-V in the print edition of the auto annual magazine too. They lose all credibility when they exclude the best selling compact SUV on the market. I'm still driving a 2006 I bought new. It has about 100,0000 miles and runs like a watch. Have done nothing except routine maintenance. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
Redd (1 year ago)
CR always recommends Subarus but they consistently nose dive in reliability after 5-6 years
Robert G Burke (28 days ago)
Glen Alkuino not true quality has dropped to number 6...
matt9c1 (5 months ago)
I chose my RAV4 because it doesn't send power to the wheels via a rubber band. A rubber band that WILL break without warning and cost over $3K to replace. It also doesn't rely on a turbo to make power. Another lubricated part to wear and fail. I will stick with my simple Toyota.
Glen Alkuino (10 months ago)
With all due respect you should check different Forums for Subaru owners, one of the most reliable and trustworthy brands out there........Period!
jchau53 (11 months ago)
Redd I have a 2005 Subaru legacy 225,000 km on it. just normal wear and tear (tires and brakes) . I am going to buy another Subaru as this older on is going to my son. Wife has a 2012 Imprezza.
Chris Smith (1 year ago)
Redd not true dude. Subaru, Toyota, Mazda, and Honda are tops when it comes to reliability for a non-luxury brand.
Double JJ (8 months ago)
I love the Forester but if I have to choose another crossover I would go for the CX-5. However I'm not a crossover person. I'm sorry. Sedans/hatchbacks FTW, never a crossover.
Tech Defender (1 year ago)
What's wrong with the CX5? It's handles the best, looks the best, is reliable, has safety tech (not standard) and has a real auto.
GrandeMage (1 year ago)
So no Honda CRV/HRV, no Jeep's and Chev/Buick... Plenty of others I'd rather look at than the long in the tooth Nissan and Subaru
Jerome Nigawuhkui (1 year ago)
Who's mans made this, where's the CR-V??? It's literally one of the best cars in the segment.
Chris Smith (1 year ago)
Jerome Nigawuhkui it's brand new dude calm down. wait until they do more testing.
SuperHollowfied (1 year ago)
Every vehicle mentioned here is a CUV. Stop calling them SUVs.
jtothada06 (1 year ago)
No mention of the Crv? I can't trust CR no more
Chris Smith (1 year ago)
jtothada06 stop being such a kid. it's brand new and it needs to do more testing. give them time and then you can celebrate.

Mazda CX-5: What am I chopped liver?
ureviews (1 year ago)
They totally neglected to mention the 2017 CR-V. Weird.
Mr Bob (4 months ago)
CR is rapidly losing their credibility. ..
Jim Crants (5 months ago)
Right now, the 2018 CR-V is their second-ranked compact SUV, not significantly behind the 2018 Forester. RAV4 is close behind, with a bigger gap back to the Rogue, CX-5, Sportage, etc. So they like the model. They also liked the CX-5, in the driving tests, but its predicted reliability is only average, versus very good for the CR-V, Forester, and RAV4.
moe786patel123 (5 months ago)
So true
shin888 (6 months ago)
Honda forgot to pay the CR fee. Mazda CX5 is top of its class and doesn't get a mention either
Xalataf (10 months ago)
ureviews The only complaint I have is the design. It kinda looks as the black sheep to me of the CR-Vs.

nickolas (1 year ago)
I just bought a 2017 Rav4 Hybrid LE+ (Canada), and I have been getting around 35 MPG (around freezing temperature). It has been very impressive so far.
Brian Lawrance (8 months ago)
nickolas how has it been? Have you been enjoying it, I'm thinking about trading in my Nissan Rogue for a RAV4. Having too many problems with Nissan
Great White North (1 year ago)
Sorry but, i will never own/drive a vehicle that does any part of the driving without my own input. All these "collision avoidance" gimmicks create lazy drivers with no accountability. If you have to rely on technology to drive for you, you don't belong behind the wheel. Period. Driving is a PRIVILEGE, not a right
Astral Dragon (1 month ago)
if you don't want technology driving for you, then just hope you're dead before fully perfected self driving cars become the main stream norm. not sure how i feel about self driving cars though, i can't imagine ever enjoying just being driven by an automated car and doing nothing, there's just that special something about being in control of a vehicle you enjoy driving. maybe we'll grow to like them, maybe not.
Astral Dragon (1 month ago)
matt9c1 "sovereign citizen shit elsewhere" lol, since travel/freedom of movement is factually and literally a right, it ironically appears as though you should be the one going to north korea, where you can't go anywhere unless kim jong un gives you the "privilege" to do so, learn what you're talking about before it blows up in your face. ;D
Ghost InTheMachine (4 months ago)
Not all shitty drivers can afford newer cars.
Marco Morel (4 months ago)
matt9c1 he was joking because the first comment had a mistake
matt9c1 (5 months ago)
nunchaku101 "Driving is a right, itis the common law right to travel." LOL. take your sovereign citizen shit elsewhere. If you don't like the laws, North Korea would be happy to have you .

why wasn't the Mazada CX-5 included in the report (as good/bad/average)
Marchelo DeFacto (1 year ago)
Pete Trebesch Mazda s are underrated
Mourinho M (1 year ago)
Pete Trebesch I don't get it either. The Mazda has great handling, fuel economy, traditional automatic transmission and appealing design.. Also, doesn't the new CRV have larger cargo capacity?
JBML007 (1 year ago)
the 2017 honda crv touring is gorgeous.
Bad Drivers SF (1 year ago)
I drive a 2016 Honda HR-V!!!
nlpnt (1 year ago)
Everything that makes an HR-V an "SUV" makes it a little bit worse than a Fit. It's not a *bad* car but it's not truly good like the Fit is. You pay dearly for being able to say you drive a compact crossover rather than a hatchback.
Chris Smith (1 year ago)
Jerome Nigawuhkui I think you're talking about CR-V.
Jerome Nigawuhkui (1 year ago)
