Sertraline is an antidepressant in the SSRI class. It’s used for depression, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, and a number of other conditions. After entering the market in the early 1990s, sertraline became one of the most popular antidepressants. The drug is used in adults, adolescents, and children. There might be greater concerns and lower efficacy in young people. Antidepressants Make it Harder to Empathize, Harder to Climax, and Harder to Cry.

06:51
Dr. Julie Holland argues that women are designed by nature to be dynamic and sensitive – women are moody and that is a good thing. Yet millions of women are medicating away their emotions because we are out of sync with our own bodies and we are told that moodiness is a problem to be fixed. One in four women takes a psychiatric drug. If you add sleeping pills to the mix the statistics become higher. Overprescribed medications can have far-reaching consequences for women in many areas of our lives: sex, relationships, sleep, eating, focus, balance, and aging. Dr. Holland's newest book is titled Moody Bitches: The Truth About the Drugs You’re Taking, the Sleep You’re Missing, the Sex You’re Not Having and What’s Really Making You Crazy. Read more at BigThink.com: http://goo.gl/O8uR Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: The main kind of antidepressant that is the most popularly prescribed are the SSRIs and these are medicines that increase serotonin transmission. And when you start to push on the doses of these SSRIs you start to lose some sort of quintessential feminine things. First of all it becomes much hard to climax and it becomes much, much harder to cry. But you also see decreases in empathy, in sensitivity, in passion. The simple way of thinking about an SSRI is that you have two brain cells and one is a pitcher and one is a catcher. So pitch, catch. Pitch, catch. So this nerve cell is throwing serotonin across and this one is catching it. What the medicines do is they block the recycling back into the pitcher. So, you know, I’m throwing, I’m throwing, some of this gets caught, some of it gets dropped. It just doesn’t get over there but I’ll suck it back in and try again. So if you block the recycling more is in the middle to get across. So there’s more, you know, the space between the nerve cells is called the synapse. If you block the recycling of the serotonin into the releasing cell more is available for the catching cell. So it ends up enhancing the transmission. How enhanced serotonergic transmission translates into feeling better and feeling less anxious is much more complicated. But, you know, the simplistic way to think about it is that if you have higher levels of serotonin, if your transmission is better you will be more relaxed and more happy. It’s a little easier to smile. It’s a little harder to cry. So, you know, I’ve had patients come to me and say, you know, I’ve tried antidepressants before but they always made me feel like a zombie or they didn’t make me feel like myself. Or I had a patient who said like I cut my finger and I looked down and I saw that it was bleeding and I saw that it was my blood but I didn’t really feel like connected to my finger or the blood. You know, things like that that are really, really worrisome. Or I’ve had patients say, you know, I was in this situation where I knew I should be crying and I couldn’t cry. And, you know, I felt terrible that I couldn’t express that emotion to bond with my friend or something like that. So these antidepressants do scale back a lot of expression of emotion and feeling emotion even sort of thinking emotional thoughts. If you’re terribly depressed and you need antidepressants to get out of bed and function and go to work I get it. That’s one thing. But what I’m worried about is more and more women deciding to go on antidepressants because their friends are doing it and that’s what’s, you know, more and more women who are at work are taking these SSRIs so that they cannot cry, not get flustered, keep going forward. You know I think it jives with this sort of forward momentum agenda that so many of us have and especially in the workplace. But, you know, I would say at what cost? You know it is true that SSRIs can help you get ahead and there have been really interesting animal studies where, you know, the primates who are on SSRIs ascended up the dominance hierarchy. And the ones who became dominated over got stressed out and had lower serotonin levels. So there does seem to be some component of serotonin affecting dominance hierarchies and, you know, the ability to move ahead or to lean in. So I totally get that there are advantages to being on an SSRI in the workplace. But, you’re going to miss out on knowing what’s right because you feel it or being hurt by what somebody said and showing them that you’re hurt. And so that person can learn that their behavior has emotional consequences for other people. So and it changes the whole sort of tone of the workplace. There’s going to be less accountability and less sort of calling people on their misbehavior if you’re not even feeling that anyone misbehaved. [TRANSCRIPT TRUNCATED]

As far as a cure for brain zaps, managing and reducing your anxiety is the best way to make the frequency of these head zaps go down. So how do we overcome anxiety or beat anxiety? Serotonin Syndrome: Causes, Symptoms, and Diagnosis

11:08
Serotonin Syndrome: Causes, Symptoms, and Diagnosis What is serotonin syndrome? Serotonin syndrome is a potentially serious negative drug reaction. It’s believed to occur when too much serotonin builds up in your body. Nerve cells normally produce serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, which is a chemical. It helps regulate: digestion blood flow body temperature breathing It also plays an important role in the proper functioning of nerve and brain cells and is believed to impact mood. If you take different prescribed medications together, you may end up with too much serotonin in your body. The types of medication that could lead to serotonin syndrome include those used to treat depression and migraine headaches, and manage pain. Too much serotonin can cause a variety of mild to severe symptoms. These symptoms can affect the brain, muscles, and other parts of the body. Serotonin syndrome can occur when you start a new medication that interferes with serotonin. It can also occur if you increase the dosage of a medication you’re already taking. The condition is most likely to occur when two or more drugs are taken together. Serotonin syndrome can be fatal if you don’t receive prompt treatment. What are the symptoms of serotonin syndrome? You may have symptoms within minutes or hours of taking a new medication or increasing the dose of an existing medication. The symptoms may include: confusion disorientation irritability anxiety muscle spasms muscle rigidity tremors shivering diarrhea rapid heartbeat, or tachycardia high blood pressure nausea hallucinations overactive reflexes, or hyperreflexia dilated pupils In more severe cases, the symptoms may include: unresponsiveness coma seizures irregular heartbeat What are the causes of serotonin syndrome? Typically, the condition occurs when you combine two or more medications, illicit drugs, or nutritional supplements that increase serotonin levels. For example, you might take medicine to help with a migraine after already taking an antidepressant. Certain types of prescription medications, such as antibiotics, antivirals used to treat HIV and AIDS, and some prescription medications for nausea and pain may also increase serotonin levels. Examples of drugs and supplements associated with serotonin syndrome include: Antidepressants Antidepressants associated with serotonin syndrome include: selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as Celexa and Zoloft serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), such as Effexor tricyclic antidepressants, such as nortriptyline and amitriptyline monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as Nardil and Marplan certain other antidepressants Migraine medications (triptan category) Migraine medications in a drug category called “triptans” are also associated with serotonin syndrome. These include: almotriptan (Axert) naratriptan (Amerge) sumatriptan (Imitrex) Illegal drugs Certain illegal drugs are associated with serotonin syndrome. These include: LSD ecstasy (MDMA) cocaine amphetamines Herbal supplements Certain herbal supplements are associated with serotonin syndrome. These include: St. John’s wort ginseng Cold and cough medications Certain over-the-counter cold and cough medications that contain dextromethorphan are associated with serotonin syndrome. These include: Robitussin DM Delsym How is serotonin syndrome diagnosed? There’s no specific laboratory test for serotonin syndrome. Your doctor may begin by reviewing your medical history and symptoms. Be sure to tell your doctor if you’re taking any medications or have used illegal drugs in recent weeks. This information can help your doctor make a more accurate diagnosis. Your doctor will usually perform several other tests. These will help your doctor find out if certain organs or body functions have been affected. They can also help your doctor rule out other conditions. Some conditions have similar symptoms to serotonin syndrome. These include infections, drug overdose, and hormonal problems. A condition known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome also has similar symptoms. It’s an adverse reaction to medications used to treat psychotic diseases. Tests your doctor may order include: a complete blood count (CBC) a blood culture thyroid function tests drug screens kidney function tests liver function tests What are the treatments for serotonin syndrome? If you have a very mild case of serotonin syndrome, your doctor may only advise you to immediately stop taking the medication causing the problem. If you have severe symptoms, you’ll need to go to the hospital. At the hospital, your doctor will closely monitor your condition.

Brain Zaps and Antidepressants - Why Do they Happen?

08:41
Brain zaps are part of what we call medication discontinuation syndrome. Medication discontinuation syndrome are symptoms that you can see when you suddenly stop your medication. In this case were talking about what you see when you stop the serotonin enhancing antidepressants. An easy way to remember these symptoms is with the mnemonic FINISH F - Flulike symptoms. I - insomnia. N - nausea or maybe even vomiting. I - imbalance like dizziness or even vertigo like your head is spinning. S - sensory disturbances and that would be the electric shocks that seem to be coming from your brain. H - for hyperarousal and this would be anxiety, irritability, aggression or even jerkiness. All about my experience while stopping Zoloft! So thankful that I've been able to stop taking Sertraline, but the withdrawal symptoms are a bit of a roller coaster. If you are having the same results, just hang in there! It will definitely be worth it in the end!:) Keep in mind that this is my experience only and that you may not have the same results. I am not a doctor and this video is based on my opinions and no medical facts. Ask your doctor about the side effects and do not make any decisions based off of this video.

SSRI, LEXAPRO Brain Damage

Facebook Group for victims, not open to the public, but available if you have had a similar event: https://www.facebook.com/groups/241028905999497/ Severe adverse reaction to one 10mg pill of Lexapro (escitalopram) almost 5 years ago. I am attempting to share my experiences, thoughts and opinions about SSRI drugs and what happened to me. I live in Kentucky, United States. Please comment or send an email to discuss this issue. Lexapro, has ruined my life. One 10mg pill severely damaged my brain. 8 hours after taking the pill, I entered into a world of a neurological nightmare. I am afraid this happens more often than we know. I could have very easily been placed in a psyche-ward or accidentally killed myself the first few days after taking that pill. Then, no one would be able to tell my story. What happened........ After suffering a chronic sleep disorder for decades, I couldn't get more than 4 hours of sleep a night so I went to the doctor for some medical help. September 23rd 2006: The doctor prescribed Lexapro (10mg). So I took this pill having been reassured by frequent television adverstisements that it was safe. My doctor also acted as if these pills were harmless. I took the pill and went to sleep about noon. 8 hours later I woke to the most awful, strange, powerful inner sensations. I was also filled with a feeling of dread or horror. I had never experienced anything like this before and I couldn't believe it. It felt as if my brain was dying...... I jumped out of bed and ran around my house.... I couldn't stop moving or the sensations would get worse. Sheer horror! The symptoms: Many are similar to Serotonin Syndrome. Waves of nervous energy flowing through my body like painful electric shocks Inner tremor Mania Extreme pressure in head Couldn't lay down flat Extreme panic and fear...dread Sensations of my brain and body burning or sizzling, buzzing Intense disconnected feeling from reality High Fever (103) Flu-like symptoms Terrible headache Extreme nausea Waves of sensations throughout my body and skin Visual hallucinations Visual impairments Dizzy spells Unable to exercise much unable to tolerate caffeine, alcohol and other vitamins or medicines Akathisia (inability to stop moving) Panic Showering would hurt my skin Unable to lay down Dizziness Loud ringing in the ears (High frequency) Racing and violent thoughts BRAIN ZAPS (Immediate equilibrium interruption or disruption) Racing, uncontrollable thoughts unable to control emotions Inability to focus Unable to listen to music Unable to listen to music High fever Flu-like symptoms (exactly like the flu) Profuse sweating Unable to distinguish TV from reality Felt like being out of reality Anxiety Depression (due to circumstances) Hyper-sensitivity to almost everything Screaming upon waking I really didn't think I was going to survive. It has been over 4 years since then and I have had to deal with some of these symptoms, in varying degrees, since then. I made slow progress over the years but unfortunately I haven't recovered completely. Plus, since then I have been having unexplained strokes.

My Experience on SSRIs

08:41
TW Mental illness, medication, anxiety This video is about how I experiences SSRI medication, specifically sertraline hydrochloride or zoloft. I found it significantly reduced my anxiety for a few months until the headaches (which were mild and infrequent at first) became gradually more severe. In recent months I have been experiencing panic attacks and stronger anxiety so I have consulted my GP and I will be going off them. Remember, mediation effects everyone differently so my experience will not be universal.

One study calculated the average duration of withdrawal to be 79 weeks or 1.5 years! Antidepressant withdrawal symptoms include anxiety, insomnia, nausea, dizziness, headaches, tremors “Typical [antidepressant] withdrawal reactions include increased anxiety, flu-like symptoms, insomnia, nausea, imbalance, sensory disturbances, and hyperarousal,” notes a new review paper by Dr. James Davies, from the University of Roehampton in London, England, and Prof. John Read, from the University of East London. “Dizziness, electric shock-like sensations, brain zaps, diarrhoea, headaches, muscle spasms and tremors, agitation, hallucinations, confusion, malaise, sweating and irritability are also reported.” “Although the aforementioned symptoms are the most common physical symptoms, there is also evidence that [antidepressant] withdrawal can induce mania and hypomania, emotional blunting and an inability to cry, long-term or even permanent sexual dysfunction.” Reference Davies J, and Read J. Anti Depressant Medication - Seretonin Syndrome I Bipolar Barbie

14:51
Serotonin is a chemical produced by the body that enables brain cells and other nervous system cells to communicate with one another. Too little serotonin in the brain is thought to play a role in depression. Too much, however, can lead to excessive nerve cell activity, causing a potentially deadly collection of symptoms known as serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome symptoms often begin within hours of taking a new medication that affects serotonin levels or excessively increasing the dose of one you are already taking. Symptoms may include: Confusion Agitation or restlessness Dilated pupils Headache Changes in blood pressure and/or temperature Nausea and/or vomiting Diarrhea Rapid heart rate Tremor Loss of muscle coordination or twitching muscles Shivering and goose bumps Heavy sweating In severe cases, serotonin syndrome can be life threatening. If you experience any of these symptoms, you or someone with you should seek medical attention immediately: High fever Seizures Irregular heartbeat Unconsciousness Serotonin syndrome can occur if you are taking medications, particularly antidepressants that affect the body's level of serotonin. The greatest risk of serotonin syndrome occurs if you are taking two or more drugs and/or supplements together that influence serotonin. The condition is more likely to occur when you first start a medicine or increase the dose. The most commonly prescribed class of antidepressants, which work by increasing serotonin, are the serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).These include citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), and sertraline (Zoloft). Other prescription and over-the-counter drugs that can raise serotonin levels alone or in combination to cause serotonin syndrome include: Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), a class of antidepressants including desvenlafaxine (Khedezla), desvenlafaxine succinate (Pristiq), duloxetine (Cymbalta), levomilnacipran (Fetzima), and venlafaxine (Effexor). Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), a class of antidepressants including isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), tranylcypromine (Parnate), and transdermal selegiline (EMSAM) Buspirone (BuSpar), a drug used to treat anxiety disorders Desyrel ( Trazodone ), a drug prescribed for depression or insomnia Migraine treatments such as almotriptan (Axert), Amerge (naratriptan), rizatriptan (Maxalt), sumatriptan (Imitrex), and zolmitriptan (Zomig) Certain pain medications, including fentanyl (Sublimaze, Fentora), fentanyl citrate (Actiq), meperidine (Demerol), pentazocine (Talwin), and tramadol (Ultram) Dextromethorphan , a cough suppressant found in many over-the-counter and prescription cough medicines or cold medicines Certain medications prescribed for nausea, such as granisetron (Kytril), metoclopramide (Reglan), and ondansetron (Zofran) Antidepressants that affect multiple serotonin receptors, such as vortioxetine (Trintellix -formerly Brintellix) and vilazodone (Viibryd) Some illegal drugs, such as LSD and cocaine, and dietary supplements, including St. John's wort and ginseng, can also lead to serotonin syndrome when combined with antidepressants that affect serotonin. The FDA recently asked drug manufacturers to include warning labels on their products to let patients know about the potential risk of serotonin syndrome. If you are uncertain about drugs you take or have been prescribed, check the label or speak with your doctor. Don't stop any medication before talking to your doctor. Serotonin Syndrome Diagnosis There is no single test to diagnose serotonin syndrome. Your health care provider will ask about your medical history, including medication, supplement, and recreational drug use, and perform a physical exam. Other conditions may cause symptoms that are similar to serotonin syndrome. Lab tests to exclude other causes of symptoms may be ordered. Serotonin Syndrome Treatments People with serotonin syndrome are typically hospitalized for observation and treatment of symptoms. For example, benzodiazepines are given to treat agitation and/or seizures. Intravenous fluids are given to maintain hydration. Removing the drug responsible for the serotonin syndrome is critical. Hydration by intravenous (IV) fluids) is also common. In severe cases, a medication called cyproheptadine (Periactin) that blocks serotonin production may be used. Does Marijuana Affect Mental Illness? | Marijuana

03:54
Watch more Marijuana Facts & Medical Marijuana videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/506384-Does-Marijuana-Affect-Mental-Illness-Marijuana Marijuana and Mental Illness There are three things to think about when it comes to marijuana and mental illness. 1. Can marijuana cause mental illness? 2. Can marijuana be used to treat mental illness? 3. Can the way our society treats marijuana itself cause mental illness? So let's take the first one: Can marijuana cause mental illness? Well, for a long time people have worried about this. Societies going back to 19th century have been concerned whether marijuana use can cause people to go insane. There was whole (?) madness where people really believed or were thought to believe that use of marijuana could lead to mania, homicidal mania specifically, where you go crazy and kill people. But every time that's been seriously looked at, studied by scientific bodies, they really couldn't find any kind of association with these mania syndromes. More recent studies are being done to look at specifically certain vulnerable populations like adolescents who have preexisting mental health problems. And it turns out that possibly we might be able to find a correlation with adolescents who use marijuana who have preexisting behavioral and psychological problems may be at a higher risk developing longer standing psychotic problems, but these associations are very weak. They are done through retrospective studies and you really can't do a controlled study to find that out. The problem with these studies is that it really confounds how the society views marijuana because it turns out that with all the law enforcement, all the messages that we get about marijuana, when you're going against that grain by using something that's both prohibited and taboo and stigmatized and illegal, that itself can cause psychological distress. It's difficult to tease that out from the actual substance itself. Now it turns out that marijuana has been shown in some studies to be associated with improved mental health in patients who are chronically mentally ill. There have been studies in chronic schizophrenia patients that those who are using cannabis or marijuana in some studies have longer lives, in some studies have higher levels of social functioning. That's all related to the fact that the system that marijuana binds to in our brain and nervous system is tied in very intimately to our cognitive functioning in our way that we approach the world and our ego construction. That's what that's about. A lot of people are excited about the use of compounds in marijuana like cannabidiol (CBD) to treat illnesses like schizophrenia and psychosis. Certainly there is interest in depression treatment, anxiety treatment, posttraumatic stress disorder. All of these things are exciting areas in the world of mental illness treatment with marijuana. Finally marijuana enforcement itself can be a trigger for mental illness because of the chronic distress of worrying about being prosecuted by law enforcement. I've met numerous patients and people who live in places where it's illegal to use marijuana even though it's medically okay at the state level, but the federal government saying it's illegal, and they are caught. This can cause really severe distressing symptoms. So that itself is all part of this social framework that we put marijuana into. So we have to be careful how we build those frameworks.

Best Food for Antidepressant-Induced Sexual Dysfunction

The spice saffron may not only work as well as SSRI antidepressant drugs like Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft without the side-effects, they may be able to even treat the adverse sexual side-effects that occur in up to 70% of people taking them. Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at https://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free recipe from his new HOW NOT TO DIE COOKBOOK. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from his books, DVDs, and speaking directly support NutritionFacts.org). Pass the paella! I touched on the spice before in Saffron vs. Prozac (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/saffron-vs-prozac/) and Saffron for the Treatment of PMS (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/saffron-for-the-treatment-of-pms/). ABILIFY® Aripiprazole‎ 1 Week Review + Side Effects

04:08
Don't forget to leave a like! Note: What I meant to say in the video is LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR, BUT do NOT take his advice to heart. Listen to yourself, your body, and your mind. Tell your doctor what is happening and keep in mind that he gets paid a lot no matter what he says. Also always get a second opinion. The more opinions/advice you have, the easier it will be for you to decide what is right for you. Aripiprazole, sold under the brand name Abilify among others, is an atypical antipsychotic. It is recommended and primarily used in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.[5] Other uses include as an add-on treatment in major depressive disorder, tic disorders, and irritability associated with autism.[6] According to a Cochrane review, evidence for the oral form in schizophrenia is not sufficient to determine effects on general functioning.[7] Additionally, because many people dropped out of the medication trials before they were completed, the overall strength of the conclusions is low.[7] Side effects include neuroleptic malignant syndrome, a movement disorder known as tardive dyskinesia, and high blood sugar in those with diabetes.[5] In the elderly there is an increased risk of death.[5] It is thus not recommended for use in those with psychosis due to dementia.[5] It is pregnancy category C in the United States and category C in Australia, meaning there is possible evidence of harm to the fetus.[5][8] It is not recommended for women who are breastfeeding.[5] It is unclear whether it is safe or effective in people less than 18 years old.[5] It is a partial dopamine agonist. Aripiprazole was developed by Otsuka in Japan. In the United States, Otsuka America markets it jointly with Bristol-Myers Squibb. From April 2013 to March 2014, sales of Abilify amounted to almost $6.9 billion.[9] POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, excess saliva/drooling, blurred vision, weight gain, constipation, headache, and trouble sleeping may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Discovered! Panic Attack Headaches and Migraines Linked to Panic Attack Disorders

04:06
http://www.PanicAttacksCure.org Panic disorder is different from the normal fear and anxiety reactions to stressful events in our lives. Panic disorder is a serious condition that strikes without reason or warning. Symptoms of panic disorder include sudden attacks of fear and nervousness, as well as physical symptoms such as sweating and a racing heart. During a panic attack, the fear response is out of proportion for the situation, which often is not threatening. Over time, a person with panic disorder develops a constant fear of having another panic attack, which can affect daily functioning and general quality of life. Panic disorder often occurs along with other serious conditions, such as depression, alcoholism, or drug abuse. What Are the Symptoms of Panic Disorder? Symptoms of a panic attack, which often last about 10 minutes, include: Difficulty breathing. Pounding heart or chest pain. Intense feeling of dread.Sensation of choking or smothering. Dizziness or feeling faint. Trembling or shaking. Sweating. Nausea or stomachache. Tingling or numbness in the fingers and toes. Chills or hot flashes. A fear that you are losing control or are about to die. Beyond the panic attacks themselves, a key symptom of panic disorder is the persistent fear of having future panic attacks. What Causes Panic Disorder? Although the exact cause of panic disorder is not fully understood, studies have shown that a combination of factors, including biological and environmental, may be involved. Abnormalities in the brain. Substance abuse. Abuse of drugs and alcohol can contribute to panic disorder. Major life stress. Stressful events and major life transitions, such as the death of a loved one, can trigger panic disorder. Panic disorder most often begins during late adolescence and early adulthood. It is twice as common in women as in men.How Is Panic Disorder Diagnosed? If symptoms of panic disorder are present, the doctor will begin an evaluation by performing a complete medical history and physical exam. Although there are no lab tests to specifically diagnose panic disorder, the doctor may use various tests to look for physical illness as the cause of symptoms. If no physical illness is found, you may be referred to a psychiatrist or psychologist, mental health professionals who are specially trained to diagnose and treat mental illnesses. Psychiatrists and psychologists use specially designed interview and assessment tools to evaluate a person for panic disorder. The doctor bases his or her diagnosis on reported intensity and duration of symptoms, including the frequency of panic attacks, and the doctor's observation of the patient's attitude and behavior. The doctor then determines if the symptoms and degree of dysfunction suggest panic disorder. A combination of the following therapies is often used to treat panic disorder. Psychotherapy (a type of counseling) addresses the emotional response to mental illness. It is a process in which trained mental health professionals help people by talking through strategies for understanding and dealing with their disorder. Therapy that helps a person learn to recognize and change thought patterns and behaviors that lead to troublesome feelings. Therapy also aims to identify possibly triggers for panic attacks. Medication . The anti-depressant drugs Paxil and Zoloft and anti-anxiety medications such as Xanax, Ativan, or Klonopin are used to treat panic disorders. Sometimes, heart medications (such as beta blockers) are used to help with anxiety. Relaxation techniques. When panic attacks continue after treatment has stopped, additional treatment may still help control and reduce panic attacks. In addition, relaxation techniques, such as breathing retraining and positive visualization, may help a person during an attack. Panic disorder can be successfully treated, and sufferers can go on to lead full and satisfying lives. With appropriate treatment, nearly 90% of people with panic disorder can find relief. Without treatment, panic disorder can have serious consequences and can severely impair quality of life. Complications of untreated panic disorder include. Avoidance. A person may discontinue any activities that seem to trigger a panic attack. This can make a normal work and home life nearly impossible. Anticipatory anxiety. This refers to anxiety that is triggered merely by thinking about the possibility of having an anxiety attack. Agoraphobia. This is the fear of being in places or situations in which an attack may occur, or from which escape would be difficult or highly embarrassing. This fear can drive people to avoid public places and crowds, and may even progress to the point that the person will not leave his or her home. About one-third of people with panic disorder develop agoraphobia. Claustrophobia.

My Seroquel Taper: Start to Finish (What You Might Expect)

This video is for educational purposes only and is not intended to treat or diagnose. The opinions expressed are that of the individual in the video and nobody else. Please consult a health care professional for all mental and physical healthcare needs. Please SHARE THIS VIDEO if you found it useful or if you know somebody who is suffering and/or feeling alone. Thank you. IN THIS VIDEO I DISCUSS MY EXPERIENCE COMING COMPLETELY OFF OR SEROQUEL THAT WAS LEGALY PRESCRIBED BY MY MEDICAL DOCTOR FOR MY MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS OF DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY. MY STORY: My name is Noah and on May 18 2011, I had a rare reaction to a vaccine called VIVITROL and consequently spiraled into a major, agitated, suicidal depression with depersonalization. I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who along with many siblings and friends had to watch me 24/7 as I was so suicidal. I was eventually hospitalized. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different SSRI's SNRI's Tricyclics, Mood stabilizers, anti psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I for the first time had any type of possible explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of such Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started Testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment. I am blessed to say that I have slowly over the last 8 months been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. I am glad to report that I have experienced improvements in all areas and that is a miracle. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need.

Suicidality in Children and Adolescents Antidepressants increased the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior (suicidality) in short-term studies in children and adolescents with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and other psychiatric disorders. Anyone considering the use of Zoloft or any other antidepressant in a child or adolescent must balance this risk with the clinical need. Patients who are started on therapy should be observed closely for clinical worsening, suicidality, or unusual changes in behavior. Families and caregivers should be advised of the need for close observation and communication with the prescriber. An FDA Summary of Psychiatric and Neurological Adverse Events show the following effects of the drug called Concerta: (the drug mentioned in this video) Violent Behavior, Agitation, Anxiety, Social Withdrawal, Hyperventilation, Confusion Acute Psychosis, Psychotic Behavior, Suicidal Thoughts, Hallucinations, Mania Suicide Attempts, Committed Suicide, Paralyzing anxiety, anorexia, trembling severe headache, psychomotor slowdown, nightmares, insomnia, abdominal and chest pain Category: Nonprofits & Activism Tags: Suicidal suicidal thoughts psychiatric medication psychiatric drugs concerta psychiatry psychiatrists teens informed consent black box warning seizures agitation insomnia mania psychoses alternatives

Zoloft Birth Defects Warning From FDA | Zoloft Lawsuit | Zoloft Lawyer | 1-800-656-4919

02:30
Zoloft Birth Defects Warning From FDA | Zoloft Lawsuit | Zoloft Lawyer | 1-800-656-4919 What Is Zoloft? Zoloft is a medication that is prescribed to treat depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is from a class of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Zoloft was first put on the market in 1991. It is the second-most commonly prescribed antidepressant in America. Zoloft Side Effects Zoloft is a very effective medication, but it does not come without side effects. Nausea is one of the most commonly reported side effects of this medication. In fact, 30 percent of patients report experiencing nausea while they take this medication. Seventeen percent of users experience diarrhea, dyspepsia and upper GI bleeding. It is estimated that 14 to 20 percent of people experience dry mouth while taking Zoloft. There was a study done that involved 26,005 people who use antidepressants. The results of the study showed that people who use antidepressants were 3.6 times more likely to experience gastrointestinal issues. They were also 4.1 times more likely to experience upper GI bleeding. Male patients who take Zoloft are at an increased risk for suffering sexual problems. Seventeen percent of male patients experience a decrease in sex drive. Six percent of males experience ejaculation problems. Headache, dizziness, tremor and fatigue are other common side effects that have been reported. Serious Side Effects Serious side effects are more rare and may include the following: Agitation Hallucinations Tremors Overactive reflexes Rigid muscles Irregular heartbeat Memory problems Shallow breathing Fever Liver failure Stomach bleeding Low sodium Diabetes Underactive thyroid Furthermore, women who take Zoloft during their pregnancy may be putting their babies at risk. Studies have shown that this medication can possibly lead to birth defects. This medication can be transferred to the baby through breastfeeding. However, it is unlikely for a nursing infant to suffer adverse effects from Zoloft. Why Do Doctors Prescribe Zoloft If It Can Cause Serious Side Effects? It is important to remember that only a small percentage of patients experience serious side effects while taking this medication. Additionally, doctors have to decide whether the benefits of a medication will outweigh the risks. If your doctor prescribes you Zoloft, then he or she feels that the benefits of the medication far outweigh the risks. However, the dangers of this medication are becoming increasingly known, which is why many people have chosen to file a Zoloft lawsuit. How To File A Lawsuit If you took this medication as prescribed and still suffered serious side effects, then you may be able to file a lawsuit. Many people have been able to receive financial compensation after filing a Zoloft litigation. However, there are a-lot of factors that will have to be considered in order to determine whether you are eligible for compensation. Nevertheless, our attorneys will work hard to make sure that you have the representation that you need to get financial compensation. If you want to know more about filing a lawsuit for side effects, then you can fill out the form on the contact page. You can also call 1-800-656-4919 for more information. http://youtu.be/sHTJlC69cS8
