7 signs You May Have Gluten Intolerance
Gluten sensitivity or intolerance is a condition that causes a person to react after ingesting gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. Symptoms vary widely and can include gastrointestinal problems, join pain, fatigue and depression. Celiac disease is a serious type of gluten intolerance. Classified as an autoimmune disorder, celiac disease causes damage to the small intestine. When those with the disease consume gluten, it initiates an abnormal immune response that directly attacks the intestines. Eventually, damage caused to the intestines significantly lessens the body’s ability to properly absorb nutrients. Here are 7 signs of gluten intolerance 1.Joint and Muscle Aches The inflammatory effects spurred on by gluten intolerance are the underlying reason for joint and muscle pain. Joint pain and inflammation are common symptoms of gluten sensitivity. And research does show links between the two diseases. The Arthritis Foundation has also published findings that link arthritis and joint pain with gluten sensitivity. 2.Skin Problems The mal-absorption properties of gluten intolerance affect a number of different areas of the body, including our largest organ. Gluten has been linked to acne, psoriasis, eczema, and Dermatitis herpetiformis. Skin symptoms deriving from gluten intolerance often include burning, redness, rashes, itchiness and even blistering.  3.Headaches and Migraines Migraines are often excruciatingly-painful headaches that can even be debilitating. Strangely, migraines are far more common in gluten-intolerant people that in the general population. In one study of a gluten sensitive group, 56% had chronic headaches or migraines. By comparison, just 14 percent of the control group reported chronic headaches or migraines. 4.Brain Fog Brain fog can be one of the more enigmatic symptoms, simply due to the fact that a number of things can cause it. However, it is a commonly-cited symptom of people suffering from gluten intolerance and Celiac Disease. Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, researchers discovered abnormal reactivity to gluten in a class of antibodies known as immunoglobulin. It is believed that this reaction contributes to diminished cognitive performance. 5.Unexpected Weight Gain The sudden, unexplainable weight gain is perplexing to many gluten-intolerant people. Generally, weight gain from gluten intolerance results from two things: (1) malabsorption and gut permeability and (2) systemic inflammation, which is triggered by gluten. Gluten-intolerant individuals that eliminate gluten from their diet are often able to revert back to a healthy weight level. 6.Abnormal Immune Function IgA antibodies, when one is sensitive or intolerant to gluten, have a counteracting effect on the immune system. Found primarily in the gastrointestinal tract and saliva, IgA antibodies are the body’s primary defense against colds, flus and other illnesses. Obviously, when these same antibodies counteract our immune system, we’re much more likely to contract such illnesses. 7.Dental Problems In a study published in BMS Gastroenterology, a link was discovered between gluten sensitivity and “aphthous stomatitis” – a condition often associated with recurrent mouth ulcers and canker sores. Furthermore, due to malabsorption, gluten sensitive individuals frequently have very low levels of calcium – a very important substance for healthy teeth.

Gluten Sensitivity Symptoms and Side Effects
For more on gluten sensitivity: http://draxe.com/gluten-sensitivity-diet/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Sept-2014&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=gluten In this video, I’m going to talk about what gluten sensitivity is, symptoms, and side effects. A few of the warning signs that indicate you are gluten sensitive are digestive issues, food allergies, autoimmune disease, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, weight gain, joint pain, arthritis, brain inflammation, ADHD, autism, hypothyroidism, or hormone imbalance. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye that has been hybridized today, resulting in a new breed of gluten. This protein gets into your gut and causes intestinal inflammation, resulting in autoimmune disease and other problems. If you're gluten sensitive and are going gluten free, you can follow the GAPS diet, which supports your digestive system. In addition, taking supplements like L- Glutamine, digestive enzymes, and probiotics will help your body heal from gluten sensitivity. Following these tips you will notice an overall improvement in your gluten sensitivity symptoms! 10 Most WARNING Signs of Gluten Intolerance
Gluten intolerance, also called gluten sensitivity or Celiac Disease- when it’s in its most severe form- can have symptoms that range from no symptoms to life threatening or debilitating chronic health problems and anywhere in between. Often, these symptoms are not consistent from person to person and this is part of what makes gluten testing or Diagnosing Gluten Sensitivity so difficult for medical professionals. Gluten sensitivity and intolerance can manifest as much more than just IBS-like symptoms and stomach problems. That’s why doctors are more likely to dismiss the idea that you even have this because if they don’t hear about digestive problems as your chief complaint, then it must be something else. More than 55 diseases have been linked to gluten, the protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. It's estimated that 99% of the people who have either gluten intolerance or celiac disease are never diagnosed. But how can you tell if you really are gluten intolerant? For some, eating this mainly wheat-derived protein is just fine, while others experience a full range of symptoms, some of which can make life nightmarish. If you have experienced at least 7 of these 10 symptoms after eating foods containing gluten, it might be time to think about modyfying your diet. 10 Warning Signs of Gluten Intolerance Everyone Ignores!
Gluten is part of our daily lives, due to the large number of foods that contain gluten that we eat every day. We do this without realizing how much gluten we are ingesting. Breads, cakes, pizza, pastas, cookies, and biscuits all contain gluten—and there are many more also. Without a doubt foods that contain gluten are among the most consumed foods all over the world. I mean, who doesn’t like pasta, right? Meanwhile a lot of people are allergic or intolerant to gluten without realizing it. Few people know what gluten really is and where it’s found. Then, what exactly is gluten? It’s the mixture of proteins that are specifically found in the formation of grains such wheat, rye, and barley. Because many foods are made from these grains, including healthy foods such as cereal bars, gluten is widely found in our food chain. Knowing that gluten is, is an important step in improving your quality of life; however, some of the symptoms of a gluten allergy or intolerance are so common that many people don’t even realize they are allergic or intolerant to gluten. Besides that, few people know the name associated with gluten intolerance, and are therefore unable to seek treatment or change their eating habits. Have you ever heard of Celiac Disease? This sickness is an autoimmune condition that affects people with hypersensitivity to gluten. Let’s learn about the ten most common symptoms related to a gluten allergy, in order to understand the best way to create a routine to avoid gluten. 1. Digestive problems Slow digestion or indigestion is one of the main symptoms of gluten intolerance and/or Celiac Disease. It’s important to be especially alert to constant flatulence, stomach pain, bloating, and diarrhea. 2. Headache One sign of possible gluten intolerance is chronic headaches, especially after eating anything with gluten in it. This is not a symptom closely linked to Celiac Disease, but it is a good indication of whether you are intolerant to gluten. Try to pay attention whether or not the pain starts after eating foods with gluten. 3. Chronic Weakness Constant fatigue, without having performed any physical exercise, is a strong indication of gluten intolerance as well as for Celiac Disease. 4. Mental Confusion Gluten intolerance can cause confusion, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating. Be aware, as these are also symptoms associated with fatigue, stress or aging. 5. Joint Pain Gluten intolerance causes inflammation in various parts of the body, especially in the joints. 6. Immune System Problems Immune system failures can be consequences of a gluten intolerance. With Celiac Disease, the clearest symptom is anemia, which also damages the immune system. 7. Depression Gluten intolerance is also harmful to people who have depression because it intensifies the symptoms of anxiety, irritability, and sudden mood swings. 8. Skin Lesions For people who have Celiac Disease, skin lesions such as rashes, eczema, psoriasis and others, are very clear symptoms of the disease. These symptoms also appear in people with a gluten intolerance, but to a lesser degree. 9. Tooth Decay When the person has a gluten intolerance, the teeth are weakened and there is a greater chance of cavities. 10. Hormonal Disorders Hormones can also be severely affected in people with an intolerance to gluten. In cases of Celiac Disease, a very rapid increase or decrease in weight may be symptomatic of estrogen levels which are out of control. So periodic hormone-level tests are very important. What to do if you have Celiac Disease and/or gluten intolerance? If you notice more than one of these symptoms in your daily routine, the first step is to pay a visit to your doctor and ask him to order multiple tests. Ask specifically for him to run the test for Celiac Disease. After diagnosis, be prepared to eliminate gluten from your daily diet. If the symptoms are extremely bothersome, you can also do a simple test: Eat a gluten-free diet for a while and check for improvement in your condition. If you feel better, just confirm the diagnosis with the doctor so you can continue your treatment. Gluten Intolerance vs Gluten Sensitivity: What Happens When We Eat Gluten
Click Here to Subscribe: http://Bit.ly/ThomasVid Website: http://ThomasDeLauer.com Get the Clothes I Wear at 25% Off - Use Code: TDSUMMER25 at http://www.Hylete.com Gluten Intolerance vs Gluten Sensitivity: What Happens When We Eat Gluten - Thomas DeLauer Before you bag on your friend who is gluten intolerant, saying that they're just making it all up to be part of a fad, I want you to hear me out on this. What I wanna do is I wanna talk about gluten intolerance, gluten sensitivity, and true celiac disease and talk about how they're all interrelated. A lot of people seem to think that this gluten thing is just a fad, that people are going gluten-free because it's popular right now. But the reality is that there's some true science and some true physiology that proves that we're starting to have a bigger issue with gluten as a whole, and it all comes down to how our bodies respond to it in the first place and how wheat has changed over the years. But what I wanna do is I wanna help you understand the link between what is gluten intolerance, what is true celiac disease, and then what is a wheat allergy. Okay, they're all interrelated to some degree, but if you understand what's happening you might not be so hard on that friend that says he has an issue with gluten, even though he's not celiac. Let's break it down. First off, we have to understand why we're having so much of an issue with gluten these days. Is it the fact that it's just more so in the mainstream and we're hearing more about it? I'm sure to some degree that's true. I am sure there is some psychological effect that is causing more people to have a gluten reaction when they don't really have one. That's always gonna be the case. But the reality is that we have changed as humans. The over-consumption of wheat has led us to develop different processes in the body that cause us to have more reactions to wheat. When you consume one of the same foods for a long time, over and over, you do start to cause an issue within your body. But that's not even the issue I'm talking about today. The other issue is the hybridization of wheat. Now, say what you want about GMOs. Like them or not, I don't really care. The fact is this hybridization of wheat in particular has elicited a specific change in the proteins. You see, wheat now has new proteins in it. Approximately 5% of modern day wheat is entirely new proteins that our bodies don't even know how to assimilate or utilize we don't really have the enzymes to break those proteins down. That truly is causing an issue. We've hybridized wheat to make it a little bit more drought-resistant, make it bug-resistant, but also we end up doing specific things, like spraying Roundup on it, to dry it out faster so you can have more harvesting cycles. This causes some issues within our guts. But all that aside, let's talk about what's happening when you have a gluten intolerance. The first one I wanna talk about is non-celiac gluten intolerance. These are the people that whenever they consume bread or whenever they consume gluten starches, they just feel sick. They feel bloated. They feel really lethargic and they just don't feel good. They say, "I don't feel good when I eat gluten." References 1) Gluten Sensitivity | Gluten Intolerance | MedlinePlus. (n.d.). Keratosis Pilaris and Gluten - What you need to know!
Keratosis pilaris and gluten - can you cure your chicken skin with your diet? Download the Guide Today: http://loan-er.com/kp Do you have kp, a gluten intolerance – or both? In this video we'll tell you the truth about your kp and gluten – and what you can do to clear your skin through your diet, so let's get started... A common question that we see from lots of people who have keratosis pilaris is “Can eating certain foods trigger my KP, cause an outbreak or make my KP worse?”. The answer is both yes and no, while it is not yet proven that eliminating certain foods from your diet will reduce you keratosis pilaris outbreaks or lessen your KP symptoms, there are some people who swear that this is the case because it worked for them as individuals. The reasons for this are normally if someone has an undiagnosed food allergy or food sensitivity, or if the person has celiac disease. People who have both keratosis pilaris as well as celiac disease may indeed have their KP get worse by eating foods that contain gluten (mainly wheat based foods). If you are diagnosed with celiac disease, then you will most likely be instructed by your doctor to go on a gluten free diet permanently. Another group of people who may see their KP symptoms improve by restricting themselves to a certain diet are those people who have both KP and either a dairy allergy or are lactose intolerant. When someone has both of these conditions, consuming milk or other dairy products may actually trigger outbreaks or make their keratosis pilaris become more frequent and / or worse. However, if you don’t have either of the above two conditions, than your KP symptoms / outbreaks may or may not improve just by avoiding these food groups. Just be sure to check with your doctor and be sure if your have either of these conditions before starting any type of specialized diet to treat your keratosis pilaris. Gluten Intolerance and Skin Rash Keratosis pilaris is often confused with or misdiagnosed as celiac disease. Although they both share some of the same symptoms, they are both commonly thought to have different causes. While celiac disease is inherited from your genetics, the jury’s still out on exactly what causes keratosis pilaris. One main difference between the two is that celiac disease affects the entire body (and especially the digestive system) – not just the surface of the skin. All gluten intolerance (whether it’s from celiac disease or not) is primarily caused by wheat, barley and rye. Besides the two, there are many other disorders and conditions of gluten intolerance that are neither KP or celiac disease. In fact, it’s still a mystery just exactly what some of those conditions really are. Pimples and bumps on arms caused by celiac disease are classed as ‘queratosis pilaris‘, a deficiency of both vitamin A and essential fatty acids. Some of the most common symptoms if gluten intolerance are: Migraines Fatigue Stomach Discomfort Heightened Anxiety Women may experience more painful periods and other menstrual symptoms inflammation in the joints If you’re suffering from the above symptoms AND have keratosis pilaris like bumps on your arms, you may have some type of gluten intolerance. The latest research showed that in the US alone, approximately eighteen million people have a gluten intolerance. Long Story Short: You’re way more likely to have a gluten sensitivity, rather than celiac disease. Plus, there are so many different types of gluten sensitivity disorders, which also ups the odds of you having one if gluten is giving you bumps and / or rashes on your arms (or anywhere on the body for that matter). You can pretty much be sure that you have some type of gluten sensitivity when your bumps and other irritations go away when you cut all gluten out of your diet, and especially when they return once you start eating gluten again. If you want to be doubly sure, try the above and have your doctor test you for celiac disease. If you’re not diagnosed with celiac disease, you’ve got some form of gluten sensitivity. Some people wonder: Is Keratosis Pilaris an Autoimmune Disease? For those of you dealing with bumps and rashes, you might have keratosis pilaris, gluten sensitivity or an autoimmune disease. In fact, it’s estimated that around fifty million people either have, or at one time had, autoimmune diseases in the US alone. It’s thought that about twenty five percent of those cases were caused by genetics and inherited conditions, while the remaining seventy five percent were more than likely caused by environmental factors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULGxLI2SuOw

7 Foods to Treat Gluten Intolerance | 7 Gluten free foods
Gluten-free diet has become a rage these days owing to a rise in the number of people getting diagnosed with gluten intolerance and celiac disease. Gluten intolerance refers to a condition in which a person exhibits allergy symptoms after consuming a diet containing gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and some other grains like rye. The initial symptoms of gluten allergy range from bloating, indigestion, fatigue to some more serious symptoms like neurological problems, weight loss, skin issues and osteoporosis. For this reason it is imperative for those suffering from gluten intolerance to eliminate sources of gluten from one’s diet to lead a healthy life. Furthermore, following a gluten free diet has shown to improve the quality of health in people with no symptoms of gluten allergy. Apart from all the benefits a gluten free diet offers, there is a flip side as going completely gluten-free also means loss of certain essential nutrients that are found aplenty in gluten rich foods. Hence, while planning out a gluten free diet, one should include lots of foods rich in those nutrients to curb the possibility of nutritional deficiencies.

TOP 10 Warning Signs of Gluten Intolerance Everyone Ignores!
10 Warning Signs of Gluten Intolerance Everyone Ignores! About 1 in 133 Americans has some form of gluten intolerance. While it’s an easily fixable condition, many people wait for 6 to 10 years to be diagnosed. The vast majority of people with the condition will never be diagnosed. And that’s a shame when you consider how far-reaching the symptoms are. Some people go to all sorts of lengths to treat the mental and physical symptoms of gluten intolerance without ever really figuring out gluten is at the root of their problems. Are you one of them? Let’s take a look at 10 commonly-ignored signs and symptoms of gluten intolerance. 1. Digestive Issues There are many digestive issues associated with gluten intolerance. These include gas, abdominal pain or cramping, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation in children. (Medicine Net) Also pay attention for foul-smelling stool and nausea after eating foods with gluten as that’s likely to be your body trying to tell you something. 2. Keratosis Pilaris Keratosis pilaris, otherwise known as chicken skin, is a skin condition that appears as raised, hard bumps on the skin. They look like goosebumps, but they don’t go away like goosebumps would. This skin condition along with dermatitis herpetiformis, a similar skin condition, has been linked to gluten intolerance. (USNews) It can be easy to shrug keratosis pilaris off as it’s technically harmless, which is why it often gets missed as a symptom of gluten intolerance. 3. Loss of Energy or Attention If you feel like your brain is foggy or fatigued after eating a meal with gluten, this may be a sign of gluten intolerance. It happens because your body is working hard to remove a harmful substance and it takes away from your normal energy. (Allergic Living) 4. Diagnosis of an Autoimmune Disease If you have been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and are experiencing some of the other symptoms we’ve mentioned, the culprit for all could be a gluten intolerance. Many people with gluten intolerance will develop the symptoms of an autoimmune disease, especially if they also have celiac disease. (Celiac Central) 5. Mental Illness Neurological issues like peripheral neuropathy (tingling in the extremities), epilepsy, depression, anxiety, and ADHD are all associated with gluten intolerance. (About Health) Interestingly enough, although gluten-intolerant individuals bear the brunt of its depression-causing properties, even those without gluten intolerance have been found to experience depression when eating it consistently. 6. Infertility When a person who is gluten intolerant eats gluten, they put their body in an inflamed state, which can make it more difficult for them to contribute to reproduction – whether male or female. (Hillcrest Hospital South) Once gluten-intolerant patients adopt a gluten-free diet, their reproductive system goes back to normal. 7. Migraines Migraines are commonly caused by food intolerances like chocolate or gluten. If you get chronic migraine headaches, it may be a gluten intolerance. (Gluten Free Society) 8. Chronic Fatigue or Fibromyalgia According to one study, a gluten intolerance may be the source of chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia. (NCBI) Many people who are diagnosed with these conditions never understand why they have them when really it’s as simple as what they’re putting in their stomachs. 9. Joint Pain Joint pain, inflammation and swelling are common signs of gluten intolerance. (Celiac Central) Many people with arthritis who don’t realize they also have a gluten intolerance face harsher arthritis symptoms as a result of continuing on a gluten-laden diet. 10. Mood Swings Eating gluten when you’ve got an intolerance to it can lead to mood swings. (SFGate) It can also lead to anger management issues.

The TRUTH About GLUTEN Intolerance | Toilet Talk
In this episode of Abbey’s Kitchen, Abbey is hosting her favourite series: Toilet Talk. Abbey occasionally gets letters from her viewers and today’s question comes from Georgina who believes she is gluten intolerant. Georgina wants to know whether gluten intolerance is a real condition or just in her head? Abbey defines Gluten intolerance as the presence of gastrointestinal IBS like symptoms in the absence of celiac disease that seem to improve on a gluten free diet. The only way to test for it is to rule out a celiac and allergy of wheat, and to do a food elimination diet, so its ultimately a diagnosis of exclusion. Many early studies found some abnormalities in antibody levels of people who self-identified as having gluten intolerance that’s different from celiac disease. The problem with some of the early studies is that other components of wheat based products like fodmaps we talked about here, were not isolated or accounted for. Abbey shares two studies that did isolate gluten from fodmaps. In both studies, they couldn’t find a strong cause and effect relationship between gluten and digestive issues in patients without celiac disease. Abbey believes there are a few reasons why you feel better when you go GF. Cutting out gluten often means cutting out a lot of processed foods with a ton of added sugar, additives and saturated fats. If you were to continue to just eat donuts every day all day but just make sure they’re gluten free donuts, would you feel automatically better? Most likely not. FODMAPs stand for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides AND Polyols and are carbs found in a lot of grains and have been known to cause digestive issues for certain people. While most wheat foods would be eliminated on a gluten free diet, understanding that you have a wheat allergy rather than a gluten intolerance would allow you to enjoy so many more wholesome foods (think barley, oats, and spelt). Abbey is concerned that cutting out gluten means missing out on key dietary fibres, antioxidants, and B vitamins. Gluten free pastries and breads aren’t necessarily healthier than their gluten filled counterparts. They often have less fibre and protein, fewer beneficial nutrients, and more sodium, sugar and fat to make up for what’s removed. Abbey also states that lot of people on gluten free diets end up eating a lot of rice, and there been a lot of talk about arsenic in rice and rice-based foods. Obviously, safe in small amounts, but if eaten over time, there may be an elevated risk of chronic disease. Abbey recommends washing your rice thoroughly to reduce arsenic levels. Grains are one of the best sources of beneficial prebiotics (which Abbey has written about in detail here). Eliminating those beneficial prebiotics in grains may change the healthy gut microflora and increase the risk for chronic disease. The jury is still out on gluten intolerance and there needs to be more large scale studies larger to make definitive statements about its legitimacy. Abbey recommends speaking to a doctor and RD if you are experiencing any symptoms which you think may be attributed to gluten, or anything else before changing your diet. For more tips on staying healthy, recipes, dieting, and information fit for consumption by foodies everywhere stop by Abbeys blog: http://www.abbeyskitchen.com Check Out Abbey’s Post on Probiotics Here: http://www.abbeyskitchen.com/probiotics-and-prebiotics/

What Really Happens To Your Body When You Go Gluten Free
If you're new, Subscribe! → http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-The-List For the average eater, the words "gluten-free" are horribly confusing. This protein made up of the peptides gliadin and glutenin is found in grains such as wheat, semolina, rye and barley. It's known for giving bread its airy and fluffy substance and dough its sticky texture. But recently it's become notorious for sending dieters, restaurateurs, and the medical community into a tailspin. Why? Because every time you eat a Cronut or a turkey sandwich, your body either decides to break the gluten down and absorb it, or produce antibodies to attack it. The latter is known as celiac disease, and to a lesser extent, non-celiac gluten sensitivity. Avoiding gluten completely is, as of now, the only known treatment to help heal these conditions. But what about the rest of us who haven't been diagnosed? What really happens to the body when you give up gluten? Brain Fog, Depression, Anxiety- How Gluten Damages The Brain
http://www.drhagmeyer.com/ When a patient has intestinal dysfunction or intestinal permeability, these small, undigested molecules may enter the blood stream, and, if blood-brain barrier permeability exists, pass through the blood-brain barrier. In the brain, Gluteomorphins can directly interfere with neuronal messaging by binding to the opioid receptors thus inhibiting the natural binding of neurotransmitters to their receptors.2 6 7 8 In addition, lymphocytes carry the same receptors on their own surfaces; therefore, Gluteomorphins can indirectly interfere with opioid receptors through lymphocyte secretion of cytokines and cause the delivery of wrong messages to the brain.7 8 If antibodies are produced to Gluteomorphin, these antibodies act like the natural opioids, on the lymphocytes and the nerve cells causing neuro-immune abnormalities. Thus, Gluteomorphin can disturb neuro-immune communication through neurotransmitters and cytokines. After the ingestion of wheat, some patient’s digestive processes break down the wheat into prodynorphin (PDYN) peptides. There are indirect mechanisms by which circulating PDYN could modulate brain function.3 If exogenous PDYN enters the blood stream cross-talk occurs between the exogenous PDYN and the endogenous PDYN.4 Exogenous PDYN can have agonist, partial agonist, or antagonist action at certain receptor types.4 PDYN also cross-reacts with enkephalins, which regulate nociception in the body. These actions of exogenous PDYN cause an opiate effect on the body. lean more visit www.DrHagmeyer.com

Gluten causes health problems in sufferers of celiac disease (CD) and some cases of wheat allergy. Some people believe that there are health benefits to gluten-free eating for the general population, but there is no published experimental evidence to support such claims. For those diagnosed with celiac disease, eating gluten-free is following an undisputed medical directive.[1] Non-celiac gluten sensitivity or gluten intolerance may not exist

Daily bread -- Can any human body handle gluten? | Dr. Rodney Ford | TEDxTauranga
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Gluten – friend or foe? This was the talk that got the standing ovation and changed everyone’s eating habits for the rest of evening. Over the course of 15 minutes Dr. Rodney Ford, MB. BS. MD. FRACP, and a pioneer in the field of paediatric food allergies, convinced an audience of 500 that nobody is equipped to digest gluten. How did he do it? By using lego! Dr. Ford showed us the indigestible gluten protein is chased by the antibodies that our systems create to combat the gluten. Based on decades of research, Dr. Ford believes that abundant health can be achieved by anyone who eats the appropriate foods. Dr Rodney Ford, MB. BS. MD. FRACP, is a paediatrician and former Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at Christchurch Clinical School. He is a specialist in food allergy and gastroenterology at the 'The Children's Clinic and Allergy Centre', Christchurch, New Zealand. Rodney's philosophy is “diet: not drugs” as he has seen too many people given medications for symptoms without first considering the possibility of food allergy or food intolerance. Rodney has been investigating adverse reactions to gluten for over 20 years and these illnesses have now been labelled “Gluten-related disorders” or Gluten Syndrome, with world-wide evidence accumulating that gluten may not be healthy for us all. Dr. Ford's current goal is to bring communities up-to-date about the harmful effects of gluten. Are Oats Safe on a Gluten Free Diet?
https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/no-grain-no-pain-hidden-danger-oats/ Dr. Osborne breaks down the science on the safety of oats for those following a gluten free diet... Current Research on Oats There have been a number of research studies performed to evaluate the safety of oat consumption. Many of them report that components in oat proteins cause inflammation and elicit damage in patients with gluten sensitivity. Most recently, a study published in the European Journal of Nutrition found that some forms of oat protein triggered and antibody reaction. Another study published in the Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology found two varieties of oat proteins were responsible for increased intraepithelial T-cell density and IFN-γ production (both of these are signs of increased inflammation). In 2012 a research study was published identifying a... direct correlation of the immunogenicity of the different oat varieties with the toxicity of peptides present in their avenin sequences. In plain English please - Proteins in oat cereal stimulated an immune response similar to what is seen from wheat. The studies above were all published after Jan. of 2011. In medicine, it can take 20-30 years for new information to become common knowledge among doctors. So I don't expect that many physicians will be talking about the potential for oat to be a problem for those with gluten sensitivity. That being said, let's take a look at a comprehensive review of the medical literature that was published in 2011 compiling 75 studies published on the topic since 1953. The summary from the authors are quoted below: Oats in a gluten-free diet increase the diet's nutritional value, but their use remains controversial. Contamination with prolamins of other cereals is frequent, and some clinical and experimental studies support the view that a subgroup of celiac patients may be intolerant to pure oats. Thus, this issue is more complex than previously suggested. In order to produce oats that are safe for all celiac patients, the following topics should be addressed: selection of oat cultivars with low avenin content, research on such recombinant varieties of oats, development of assay methods to detect avenins in oat products, guidelines for the agricultural processing of oats and the manufacture of oat products, as well as guidelines for following up with celiac patients who consume oats. For more on why you should eliminate grain, check out Dr. Osborne's best selling book, No Grain No Pain *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This video is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Additionally, this information is not intended to replace the advice of your physician. Dr. Osborne is not a medical doctor. He does not treat disease. He offers nutritional support to people seeking an alternative from traditional medicine.
