Too much intake of processed foods (canned goods and junk foods) which do not contain nutritional value should be avoided. The easiest way to get absorbable vitamins and minerals that are needed for hair regrowth is by eating green leafy vegetables, nutritious fruits, and meats. 4. Saturated Fats. Foods rich in saturated fats may increase DHT levels, hence causing hair loss. To prevent hair loss, it is important to limit the number of saturated fats in your diet. In addition, never use hydrogenated oil or partially hydrogenated oil in cooking because they are trans fats. Trans fats can cause heart disease, weight gain and other problems like hair loss. Fried foods or food items which are high in cholesterol should also be avoided to prevent hair loss. 5. Caffeinated Products. An excessive intake of caffeine can slow down your hair development cycle. An overdose of vitamins and antioxidants could conceivably put your body at dangers for other medical problems. 6. Sodas and alcoholic beverages. These are often filled with sugar and other unhealthy additives that could potentially cause hair loss. An alcoholic drink which is a diuretic may cause dehydration in the body, hence making the hair dull, dry, and brittle. 7. Too much salt. Too much intake of salt may contribute to hair loss. Adding zinc boosts immune function, T4 to T3 conversion and acts as an anti-inflammatory. Make sure to supplement with zinc bound to picolinic acid. 4. Iron - This is what I consider a "Goldilocks" nutrient in that you don't want TOO much or TOO little. Unfortunately, most doctors look for iron deficiency anemia and don't necessarily jus treat iron deficiency unless anemia accompanies it. Use these optimal levels to supplement with iron. 5. Magnesium - Hypothyroidism alters magnesium and low levels of magnesium can lead to issues like depression, anxiety and other changes like muscle cramps or restless leg syndrome. Replace low levels with magnesium glycinate, magnesium citrate if you have constipation or magnsium threonate if you have neurological issues. 6. Selenium - This nutrient is involved in the thyroid conversion process. Not only that but supplementing has been shown to reduce TPO antibodies and boost the immune system. In addition, using iodine with selenium can help reduce negative side effects. 7. Probiotics - Up to 20% of thyroid conversion happens in the gut and inflammation can reduce this number. Hypothyroidism sets up the gut for imbalances that lead to inflammation. Using probiotics can help improve your GI function. 8. I wish I had never ever done fasting at all. Here are my reasons... 1) I felt great while I wasn't eating because my body was cleansing. But as soon as I went off the fast there was rebound eating and it came at me with a vengeance. I lost about 40 pounds in the 21 days which sounds wonderful, but all that weight came back plus an extra 20 pounds. So here I am much worse off than before I started. Actually I'm the heaviest I've ever been in my whole life. 2) as you can imagine, losing that kind of weight so fast made me feel euphoric, and I felt that way the whole time. But once I started eating again, i felt like I was cheating because I was putting food in my mouth. This is the strangest sensation about eating that I've ever felt. It's like food has now become my worst enemy. I don't enjoy it anymore because I feel so much guilt. And yet I'm eating more than ever. 3) I had very little pain while I wasn't eating, but as soon as I started refeeding, my pain was and is now 4 months later worse than ever. Today my pain is so bad I don't know if I can make it another day. 4) about 2 months after the fasts, my hair fell out in clumps like I was a chemo patient! By the time it slowed down I had lost 3/4 of the volume of my hair. That is humiliating & I hate it. Although it's growing back now, it will take me 3 or more years to get my hair back to wear it was. This was due to an extreme nutritional deficiency. There were no nutrients in my body to feel the hair topical, so it couldn't support hair, or any other need my body & brain had.
