Metabolism is the rate at which the body burns calories, and much of it is dependent on factors outside of one’s control, like gender (males tend to have higher metabolisms than females), age (after age 40 metabolism decreases about 5% each decade), and the ratio of body muscle to fat, as muscle burns more-calories than fat, even when you’re resting. Here are 5-drinks that will rev-up your metabolism and help you burn more calories 1.Green Tea Organic green-tea is one of the healthiest things you can consume. It contains a high level of antioxidants, including flavonoids and catechins which can reduce the formation of free-radicals to protect cells from damage, and even help prevent disease and premature-aging. Of course, experts say just adding green-tea to your diet isn’t going to help you lose-weight. But if you drink it instead of things like sugary drinks or even diet soda, you’re likely to drop those stubborn pounds. 2.Wheatgrass Organic wheatgrass is a staple at most juice-bars, and there’s a good reason for that. A 1-ounce serving of fresh wheatgrass juice has 5-calories, 1-gram of carbohydrate and 1-gram of protein. The metabolism is simple. It is a series of chemical processes by which your cells produce the energy necessary to maintain life, and the higher it is, the more energy your body will burn. Some things, however, are not so simple. For example, someone with a higher metabolism burns more calories at rest than someone with a lower metabolism and, therefore, can get away with eating more food, including junk food. But a high metabolism is not a privilege reserved for a chosen few who are lucky to be born with it. You can raise your own and reap the benefits too. But what are the absolute and safe ways to not only ignite your metabolism but keep it red all day long? The tips below are designed to do just that. They will help you develop and maintain a better body composition. Oil extraction The ancient practice of oil extraction in Ayurveda is often recommended for the detoxification of the body. It can also be used to increase metabolism and shed extra pounds. Oil extraction is economical, harmless and easy to do. Put 1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil or sesame oil in your mouth. Look for it around your mouth for about 20 minutes. Spit it, then brush your teeth. Do this every day in the morning, on an empty stomach. Note: Do not gargle or swallow the oil. Go for green tea If you always opt for coffee instead of tea, you may be missing a large increase in metabolism. In a recent 12-week study, participants who drank 4-5 cups of green tea daily than did a 25-minute workout, lost an average of two pounds more and more abdominal fat than those who did not drink tea. What is your magic? The infusion contains catechins, a type of antioxidant that triggers the release of fat from fat cells and helps accelerate the liver's ability to convert fats into energy. Eat a variety of whole foods Whole foods contain a variety of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that act like metabolic spark plugs, which give you the energy to get up and move. That's the theory behind the increasingly popular diets like Paleo, which avoids processed foods in favor of lean meat and vegetables. Without preservatives and unnecessary garbage in your food, your body will burn clean, and that translates to a faster-moving metabolic motor. Apple cider vinegar Apple cider vinegar is another good remedy to increase your metabolism rate, allowing you to burn calories more efficiently. It helps to alkalize the body, preventing it from becoming too acidic. Mix 1 to 2 teaspoons of unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. Take it every morning and before meals. Follow this routine daily. Note: you can gradually increase the amount of apple cider vinegar up to 2 tablespoons per day of a glass of water. Have an egg yolk, or two! Although it is true that egg whites are low in calories, fat-free and contain most of the proteins found in an egg, eating all the egg is beneficial for your metabolism. The yolk contains many metabolism-stimulating nutrients, including fat-soluble vitamins, essential fatty acids and, most importantly, choline, a powerful compound that attacks the genetic mechanism that causes the body to accumulate fat around the liver.

The numerous ways that magnesium deficiency are detrimental to health are many and with deeper understanding, the list continues to grow. -Impacts nerve and muscle health There are 18 essential minerals that play roles in all of our body processes. There are 4 that are of particular importance for liver and body health and balance: magnesium, calcium, iron and copper. These 4 are so important because much of our adverse health problems are caused by too much iron and too little magnesium. Magnesium and calcium act together as counterbalances. For example: -Mg calms cells, Ca excites them -Mg necessary to relax muscles, Ca (in concert with potassium) cause muscles to contract -Mg plays a role in keeping blood flowing; Ca is involved in blood clotting -Ca contributes to bone hardness: Mg found mostly in soft body structures -Ca is involved in the fight-or-flight response and in inflammation; Mg is involved in balancing this through calm and reducing inflammation It follows that if we are stressed, maybe caused by work, life, or even extreme exercise, we need plenty of magnesium to regain balance. Magnesium burn rate is the rate at which we burn magnesium. It appears that this rate increases as we age. The idea is to fix mitochondrial functioning through the balancing of magnesium, calcium, iron and copper. Why these four minerals? We have already discussed the importance of calcium and magnesium, so now we should understand iron and copper. Iron is the #1 most abundant mineral on earth. As we go through life, we accumulate iron. Mg and Fe fight over available oxygen. These two mineral events criss-cross at about 40 - when much of the illness, aches and pains kick in. This is largely due to excess iron and deficient magnesium. Iron oxide is involved in the aging processes inside of our mitochondria. It changes enzymatic pathways and can cause a lack of ATP, which our bodies need to function! ATP doesn’t work unless it is complexed with magnesium, which affects the functioning of 3700 proteins in the body. As we go through stress iron builds up in the liver, and as we age magnesium burn rate increases. This rate is also higher when we are under stress. Copper is another important mineral - you can’t make ATP unless you have bioavailable forms of copper. Copper is the mineral that makes sure that things are oxidized properly. Dr. Morley’s RCP: Concentrate on the stops and the starts to get this in balance. Stops: 1. Stop taking hormone/vitamin D a. V D stops the liver’s production of ceruloplasmin i. How to Get the Most out of Vitamin Supplements- Thomas DeLauer: When should you take your vitamins? To learn more about how I can help you, head to http://www.ThomasDeLauer.com Many factors play a role on how available vitamins and supplements are when you take them. Fat-Soluble Vitamins: Vitamins A, D, E and K- These are stored in the liver and fat stores in your body, so you do not need to consume these every day. They are easy to get from food as they are not easily broken down by heat when cooking. These are the most important vitamins to eat with food, as the name implies, they are only absorbed and used by the body in the presence of fat. These vitamins dissolve in fat and are then delivered to the bloodstream for use in the body. Not much fat is needed, but if taking a supplement, or even eating fruits and veggies, but sure to have some fat added. If you make a healthy smoothie, add some almond butter or you favorite oil, such as macadamia nut oil. When eating salads, do not use fat-free salad dressings! Olive oil and lemon juice are great options. Be careful if you supplement these vitamins and be sure to check with your doctor if you feel you may need to do so. These vitamins are only needed in small quantities and can build up to a dangerous level if too many are taken. Vitamin D is the main fat-soluble vitamin in the US where deficiencies are common. This is due to inadequate exposure to sunlight. Fortified foods and supplements can help. Try to obtain 5-15 minutes of direct sunlight twice per week to avoid a deficiency, and if this is not possible then talk to your doctor about supplementation. Water-Soluble Vitamins: Vitamin C and B-complex vitamins are water soluble vitamins that you need to be sure to include in your diet daily. Unlike fat-soluble vitamins, these vitamins are not stored in your adipose tissue or liver and are in essence washed from your body daily. Food storage and preparation are important when making sure to get sufficient quantities of these vitamins. Deficiencies are uncommon, however vegans do not have a natural source of vitamin B12 and usually need to supplement. While deficiencies are not common, it is still important to consume daily for bodily functioning. As these vitamins dissolve in water, you do not need to take these with foods, although you can if you want to. Minerals: Calcium and Magnesium (2,4) - These are best taken with food and good to take at night. Calcium is linked to improved sleep due to its muscle relaxing abilities and magnesium has calming effects on the nervous and musculoskeletal systems. Zinc (2,4) - Take with or after meals to avoid stomach upset. Do not take with dairy as calcium hampers absorption. Also avoid taking with iron as large quantities of iron can also hurt your body’s ability to absorb zinc. Avoid taking excess zinc, which can lead to anemia through suppression of copper absorption. Iron (4) - Best to take on an empty stomach. Avoid taking with zinc, calcium and vitamin E as these can decrease absorption. If you have a sensitive stomach you may not do well when taking iron on an empty stomach. If so, take with a light meal. Probiotics (4) - Best to take 30 minutes before a meal as this is when digestive enzymes, bile salts and stomach acid are at low levels. These levels peak after a meal, so this is the worst time to take a probiotic. Fiber (2) - Be sure to separate taking fiber from other nutritional supplements as fiber can hamper mineral absorption. Fish Oil (4) – Fish Oil is best to take with food and with your multivitamin, or other fat-soluble vitamins, if you take them. The fat in the food that you eat can help to aid in digestion and absorption. As fats take a long time for your body to digest, it is best not to take fish oil pills or eat a fatty meal pre-workout. This can cause digestive upset. Multivitamins: As these contain both water- and fat-soluble vitamins, take with plenty of water and some food with fat in it, but try not to take with dairy as this can reduce your absorption of zinc. I'm talking about potentially ditching your multivitamins, if you're not someone that actually needs it. This video came to light simply because a lot of people that have talked to and a lot of people that I've worked with, have had a very, very hard time letting go of their multivitamins. They take these multivitamins and they see them as their crutch. They see them as the end all be all and their link to healthy eating or the void fill from the nutrients that they're missing from their food. But the reality is there's a lot more to just popping a multivitamin and getting your vitamins and minerals in. So first off what I want to look at is the fact that 50% of Americans take a multivitamin. That is a lot, a lot of people that are misled. A lot of people are leading themselves to believe that they're getting all their vitamins and minerals and getting what they need from a simple pill. Also in reality, we have to look at how much money is being spent. We're talking like $11 billion dollars that people are spending on multivitamins. That's a lot of money. Okay, so let's talk about what is happening with a multivitamin and why it may not be the best thing for you. I'm not discounting it. I'm not saying that everyone should avoid taking a multivitamin. There are some subcategories of people that might want to take them, but I want to talk about some reality when it comes down to just popping that pill. First thing I want to look at is too many nutrients, okay? The simple thing is we have to look at this. If our bodies have the ability to take in all these minerals and all of these vitamins at once, don't you think there would be a food out there that truly encompasses all of them? You see, normally we have to eat different subcategories of foods to ultimately make up our nutrients. Now, if it was so easy as just popping a pill, I think that a lot more people would be really, truly healthy and if it was really possible to absorb all those vitamins and minerals at once, I think we'd have some foods that contain all those vitamins and minerals. We have to remember that we require specific enzymatic functions to truly synthesize and utilize different vitamins, minerals, and metals within the body. Each vitamin that we take in each mineral that we take in has a different process to actually being utilized and if we take them all in at once, we're not really allowing the body to do that efficiently. You're much better off knowing what is going to work for you and isolating specific vitamins and specific minerals for your type, for your bio individuality. So the thing we have to look at with multivitamins and we have this constant competition going on. Okay? We have constant competition of different minerals that sometimes need to be elevated and sometimes need to be lower, but we also have way too much of specific minerals. References: 1) Inc., G.
