US 281 Project Visualization Animation

07:59
The US 281 North project begins at the Loop 1604 interchange with four new direct connector ramps from the Loop 1604 freeway lanes to the US 281 freeway lanes as the roadway heads north for 8-miles to the Bexar/Comal County Line. Continuous frontage road lanes provide local access and connect to the freeway lanes with on and off ramps. The freeway lanes cross over major local streets on bridges. Auxiliary lanes are also included to transition merging lanes into the freeway lanes throughout the corridor. This proposed design features two main lanes in each direction with High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes and transit lanes that connect to VIA’s Stone Oak Park & Ride facility near Stone Oak Parkway.

Contractors behind collapsed bridge have projects in North Texas

02:08
The contractors behind the deadly Florida bridge collapse have also worked on several projects in North Texas, but nothing similar to that pedestrian bridge. Munilla Construction Management has an office in Irving and was the primary contractor for the expansion of U.S. Highway 75 in Collin County. That project started in 2014. It was to widen the six-lane freeway to eight lanes from Spring Creek Parkway to State Highway 121. It included improving frontage roads and ramps. The company's website also indicates it did concrete bridge repairs as part of the project. MCM has an office in Irving on Greenway Drive. Workers there said they are not making any comment regarding the company, its work in North Texas or on the Florida bridge collapse. READ MORE: Tearful families wait as bodies remain under failed bridge The North Texas office referred FOX 4 to its Miami headquarters for comment, where the only response thus far is a recorded message that expresses condolences to the victims' families. Regarding MCM projects in North Texas, TxDOT said it has “been proactively inspecting bridges in Texas for nearly 40 years. All public-use bridges in the state which carry vehicular traffic undergo periodic routine safety inspections every 24 months.” TxDOT also says MCM has other projects underway, including in Denton County with work estimated to go on until the year 2020. It is important to note that MCM is one of several contractors involved in these highway projects. FOX 4 News is a FOX-owned station serving Dallas-Fort Worth and all of North Texas.

Choosing the lowest bid is not always the best choice when choosing asphalt and paving contractor. The following will help you make an informed decision when choosing a paving contractor. Construction Worker during Asphalting Road Works For more information about : Beaumont Asphalt and Paving Companies Inviting, Attractive The appearance of your asphalt or paved driveway creates an impression about your home and way of living. An inviting driveway provides a focal point for passers-by and visitors approaching your home. And an attractive driveway, one with "curb appeal," adds value to your home investment. In fact, home owners may even prejudge the upkeep and condition of the house based upon the appearance of the driveway: "The condition of the driveway sets the tone for the condition of the home,” real estate agent Amanda Miller told The New York Times. So it is worthwhile to plan your driveway carefully. With asphalt as your material — and attention to design and construction — your driveway will provide years of lasting service and an excellent return on the investment. Quality Control Asphalt mixtures come in a wide variety of designs. Some mixtures are smoother on top than others; some have a higher content of asphalt cement than others. A special type of asphalt mixture can even be colored and imprinted to resemble paver blocks, combining a certain aesthetic appeal with the benefits of asphalt. Consult with your asphalt and paving contractor to assure that your mixture will provide the surface and performance factors you want. Unfortunately, not all consumers closely monitor their driveway design and construction. Getting multiple bids, if possible, and having the willingness to work with your builder or contractor to control quality will serve you well. How to Hire a Contractor All reputable asphalt and paving companies and contractors who seek your business in good faith will provide references and phone numbers of satisfied customers. Some firms even maintain a list of recent customers and phone numbers. A few quick calls will help protect your investment. Ask references about qualifications such as contractors' quality of work, attention to details, on-time performance, and ability to finish work completely. These suggestions are the same as recommended by the Better Business Bureau. Here are some other points to consider: Check gates for clearance; know who's responsible for re-hanging them, if necessary. Decide whether you, a plumber, or someone else will raise any water valves or sewer inlets to meet the new asphalt around them. Assign specific responsibilities and make notes. Surface drainage is very important. Make sure your contractor plans and builds adequate surface slopes to produce good drainage. So-called "ponding," or standing water, on or near the driveway, is undesirable. Once you have taken bids and selected the contractor you want, you’re ready for the contract. A construction contract should detail such items as the responsibility for grading work and accuracy, for compacting the subgrade and base, for measuring compacted asphalt and paving thicknesses, for pavement slopes and smoothness, payment schedule, and guarantee of the finished product. It’s important to make sure your contractor has adequate liability insurance. Ask for written proof of it. This directory contains Asphalt and Paving companies throughout Texas. MAYOR GINTHER UNVEILS 2018 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS BUDGET Mayor Andrew J. Ginther unveiled his 2018 Capital Improvements Budget in conjunction with Columbus City Council on April 4th, 2018, at Blackburn Community Recreation Center on the Near East Side. The capital budget includes funding for physical improvements to the city such as street repaving, water and sewer upgrades and building construction. “I am committed to investing in our neighborhoods to improve the quality of life for all of our residents,” said Mayor Ginther. “This budget allocates funds for core city services such as safe streets and sidewalks, street lights, water and sewer systems. It also helps us address challenges of affordable housing and neighborhood safety.” The total 2018 Capital Improvements Budget is $1,013 billion, $720 million in new funding and $294 million in carry over dollars. It includes a record amount of funding for street repaving -- $39 million. Water and sewer improvements make up 55 percent -- $557 million – of the budget. Some additional highlights of the budget include: • $20 million for a new Linden Community Recreation Center • $4 million in new sidewalks citywide • $5 million in streetlights citywide, including projects in Milo-Grogan, Olde Town East and Parsons underpass. • $2.5 million for the restoration of the Davis Center and $1 million for the Family Adventure Center, both in Franklin Park • $5 million for the Affordable Housing Alliance to leverage additional funding to support affordable housing in Columbus. • $480,000 for 8 new construction homes on the South Side that will be sold to market rate buyers and $142,500 for 15 rental homes in the Healthy Rental Homes project. • $1 million for a gunfire detection system as part of the Comprehensive Neighborhood Safety Strategy • $3 million for land acquisition and design of Police Substation #8 in Franklinton • $7 million to begin construction of Firestation #16 in Linden. • $7.5 million for fire apparatus such as medics, platform ladders and engines. “This new Capital investment plan is critical to upgrading our neighborhood infrastructure,” said Columbus City Council President Shannon G. Hardin. “We appreciate the detailed work done by the administration to consider long-term challenges in every area from utilities to parks, safety to sidewalks. We look forward to talking to residents at our neighborhood hearings about how we are helping put shovels in the ground, creating jobs and being responsive to their needs.” City Council will hold four neighborhood hearings to discuss the capital budget. The first reading of the budget at Council will take place on Monday, April 16. The second reading and approval will be on April 23.

Fixing Roads After Historic Floods

02:04
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Officials on both sides of the bay are talking dollar amounts and broken roads. Both Mobile and Baldwin County leaders are discussing how to get washed out roads fixed, and fast. Tuesday, the city council voted to speed up the process by accepting emergency bids and forgo advertising for repairs to Girby Road and McGregor Avenue. Fixing McGregor Avenue is the city's top priority. Road and pipe repairs are estimated to cost $100,000 to $125,000. Girby Road is next on the list with repairs estimated at $150,000 to $200,000. Parts of Museum Drive were also washed out during last week's storm, and repairs could cost the city up to $100,000. Mayor Sandy Stimpson said he's working closely with FEMA in hopes of getting federal assistance for the repairs. Stimpson hopes that in the future more city dollars are devoted to the city's streets, bridges and drainage systems. FEMA officials are still assessing damage. In order to receive money, the county as a whole has to reach a $1.6 million dollar damage threshold. City leaders say we should know if we qualify for assistance sometime this week. Whether we get the money or not, repairs on McGregor Avenue could begin as soon as next week and will take about four weeks to complete.

Heyman Evans and Bello Use $1,000,000 TAX DOLLARS for Rich Developer's Road

01:25
Why is it that this administration has such a difficult time understanding "Private Property"? The Town Board just seems preoccupied with paving and building very expensive roads to very rich people. It must be nice to have friends in Government who can call up the local Department of Public Works and lay down a mini highway at no cost! First Ms Heyman gave Ms ALdersly's rich friends at Huntington Hills Estates new roads due to "flooding control", but forgot to tell the truth at a meeting with the chief of police and failed to mention that one of those FREE 870ft elevated new asphalt roads built by the town led to three homes, one of which was another board member appointed by Ms Heyman. Then they paved Spring Valley and Hoffman Rd at your expense and luckily they had a very expensive report by Labella Associates to prove to all the residents that this work was a number one priority and totally necessary. As we all witnessed with the Pinegrove quotes/ bids/ estimates they are very good with numbers and figures. Our Town board must think there are only a few wealthy people living in Irondequoit, because they keep borrowing money for projects that benefit only a handful of friends at the expense of the other 50,000 citizens in our Town. The three roads in Hunting Hills Estates were built to a total of eight homes. It took them a year using Town Trucks, Labor and Materials costing over $500,000 dollars to finish that job. WOW! The next job was Seneca Road leading to another dead end and more private Property....The Mohawk Yacht Club and The Newport Yacht Club and a few homes. That cost a small fortune. This project in the Video is for another rich developer, and leads to more Private Property and a new gated community/condo development and is paid for at taxpayers expense. Ms. Heyman sure has a lot of friends that need new roads to their Private Property. How about the word NO? Did that ever come to mind? Try this..."pay for it yourself!" or "we can't, it's on private property". Thank you Linda Quinland for writing down everything Mary Ellen Heyman says to you so the Citizens of Irondequoit are kept in the dark and treated like fools. Without the Irondequoit Press acting as a personal printing press of Mary Ellen Heyman and the Town Board, none of this would be possible. Gee, why mention the supervisor lied in front of the Chief of Police and her own attorney in a meeting I had with them where she tried to cover up the fact that her board member was the benefactor of the new road? Linda Quinland uses words like Slope Stabilization and Flooding Control to inform the public and reassure them that their tax dollars are being spend wisely to help very wealthy people on nature preserves, yacht clubs and new developments. Linda, how about using terms like, political contributions, Apprentice Programs, Labella Bids were a "mistake", New York State Comptroller, FEDS, District Attorney, Impending Investigations, breech of Public Trust, Misuse of Public Funds, Out of Town developers, Collusion and many more. Why fact check? That is such a bothersome task, and would require extra work and unnecessary typing on a keyboard. Are you happy your taxes are being used to enrich connected developers and friends in exclusive estates where millionaires live? Are you a millionaire? Maybe you should donate the campaign funds of Heyman, Evans and Bello and then see what happens. Must be nice to be connected. Now I understand why our taxes are so high and we still do not have a YMCA or Community Center or new Sports Fields. How about at least enough money to open the doors to the Library at regular hours? Maybe leaf pickup? So much for progress or a "Master Plan". I encourage you to call Mary Ellen Heyman at Town Hall and let her know how you feel.
