Fijian Minister Hon. Alex O'Connor officiates at the National Diabetes Symposium

08:54
FIJIANS have been reminded once again that their lifestyle choices are contributing to the rise of non- communicable-diseases (NCDs) in the country. This was highlighted by the Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Hon. Alex O’Connor at official opening of the National Diabetes Foot Care Symposium 2018, which was held at the Holiday Inn in Suva today. Asst Minister O’Connor said that the public’s help is needed to address the deadly disease and to change lifestyle habits. “There are bad habits that affect our health, which includes excessive alcohol intake, tobacco and consuming too much processed food,” he said. Asst Minister O’Connor added that consuming lots of sugar, oil and salt increases the risks of getting diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. “NCDs (non communicable diseases) affects the productivity level and affects the quality of one life,” he said. “I am encouraging each of you here today, that it is vitally important for everyone to work together, to take responsibilities to address the issues of NCDs in Fiji.”

National diabetes association

visit http://fumix.info/diabetes-cure to know more -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- National diabetes association Formed in 1940, the ADA was founded by 28 physicians.[2] During its first 30 years, the Association limited its membership to physicians, health professionals and corporations. In 1970, the Association underwent a reorganization during which membership was expanded to include general members. Now the ADA is a volunteer-driven organization based in Alexandria, Virginia, with about 90 local offices across the United States.[3] The mission of the ADA is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.[1] To fulfill this mission, the Association funds research, publishes scientific findings, provides information and other services to people with diabetes, their families, health professionals and the public. The Association is also actively involved in advocating for scientific research and for the rights of people with diabetes.[1] The Association acts on its mission through a number of critical programs and activities that are directed to a broad range of constituents, including consumers, research scientists, health care professionals, corporations and communities. In 1994, the Chronicle of Philanthropy, an industry publication, study showed that the American Diabetes Association was ranked as the 18th "most popular charity/non-profit in America" from over 100 charities researched with 33.8% of Americans over the age of 12 choosing Love and Like A Lot for the American Diabetes Association.[4] On June 1, 2015, the Association welcomed a new CEO, Kevin L. Hagan. Hagan came from the international relief organization Feed the Children, which he had led for about three years. Fund-raising[edit] The ADA is America's leading 501(c)3 nonprofit charity providing diabetes research, information and advocacy.[5] The ADA raises most monies themselves and their overall fundraising expenses are 26%, with 74 cents of every dollar raised being used for research and programs.[6] However, in the past the organization has engaged telemarketers at very large costs. In one instance, the ADA entered into contract with InfoCision, a telemarketing firm that works closely with nonprofits, whereby only 15% of the expected funds raised would be given to the ADA with the other 85% being kept by the telemarketing firm. Furthermore, the telemarketers were instructed to lie to prospective donors regarding how much of their donation will go to the ADA.[7][8] When questioned by NBC's Lisa Myers about this campaign, a representative from the ADA expressed no regrets and stated that the program was not misleading. As for what the ADA's response would be to donors who feel duped, the representative said that the ADA would say "thank you for the gift, it's making a difference, every single penny makes a positive impact." [9] This particular campaign represented 2.5% of the Association's total revenue in 2011, and through it, the ADA reached 2 million homes with important diabetes information. National Diabetes Week 2018 - Diabetes Queensland Original with intro

00:44
In our 50th year, Diabetes Queensland asks for your help to promote public awareness of all types of diabetes, the symptoms of diabetes and why a timely diabetes diagnosis makes a big difference. 'It's about time' takes up our warning in 2017 that more than 100,000 Queenslanders have #type2 #diabetes but don't know it. We want everyone to know about type 2, check for type 2 and diagnose type 2 early. 'It's about time' identifies the sudden onset of #type1 diabetes and that any delay in a type 1 diagnosis increases the risk of the medical emergency of diabetic ketoacidosis.

National Diabetes Week 2015 – 12 to 18 July

00:31
Despite diabetes increasing at a faster rate than other chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer, research conducted by Diabetes Australia shows people find the numbers hard to believe. Participants in a recent qualitative research study were shocked to learn that approximately 280 people develop diabetes every day and that diabetes will become our number one burden of disease within the next five years. Based on this research, Diabetes Australia has developed campaign material to launch in National Diabetes Week (12 – 18 July) to raise awareness of the seriousness of diabetes and the growing number of people who have it. The national television advertisement features 280 images of people with diabetes - representing the 280 people who develop diabetes every day in Australia. It will feature 10 “hero” images that will be on screen for approx 2 seconds - some with people managing their diabetes and some with the serious complications of diabetes including heart disease, stroke, amputation and blindness. The campaign call to action will be “What do you need to know about diabetes?” The aim of the campaign is to increase knowledge and understanding in the general population about diabetes so those that don’t have diabetes better understand the condition and can support those who do. National Diabetes Week is celebrated in the second week of July each year. It is a week to raise awareness of diabetes and its prevalence in Australia. The ‘280 a day’ campaign will also address some of the misconceptions surrounding diabetes. Diabetes Australia is calling on all Australians to support the campaign and help to raise awareness of diabetes during National Diabetes Week 2015.

National Diabetes Week 2012 - 11 July 2012

01:54
Anthony Byrne MP, Federal Member for Holt, met with Mairi-Anne & Tess Macartney today to promote National Diabetes Week 2012, 8-14 July 2012. According to Diabetes Australia, "Diabetes is Australia's fastest growing chronic disease. Around 1.7 million Australians currently live with diabetes (known and diagnosed) and a further 275 Australians develop diabetes every day. Type 2 diabetes represents the vast majority of diabetes in Australia (85-90 per cent) and has been called the epidemic of the 21st century." At the age of 10 Tess Macartney was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, the unpreventable type of diabetes. According to Mairi-Anne, "Tess's pancreas stopped working and doesn't produce insulin, so she needs to inject insulin into her body 6-8 times a day to live." Over the last 4 years, Tess, with the help of her mum Mairi-Anne and family, has been learning to live with this chronic disease. Tess has been a Youth Ambassador for Juvenile Diabetes, raising awareness in the community, fundraising and spending time with other children and families affected by this disease. "Tess and Mairi-Anne are also active community campaigners. Last year they fought a campaign to ensure that the allowance for carer's of children with diabetes was extended up to the age of 16", said Mr Byrne. More recently, Tess and Mairi-Anne are working on their next campaign - to have juvenile diabetes recognised in schools in the same way as asthma and anaphylaxis. According to Mairi-Anne, "Type 2 diabetes is the curable type, by watching what we eat and with more exercise we can prevent Type 2 diabetes. We are asking all government and health bodies to work together to raise awareness of what measures you can do now to prevent Type 2 diabetes. We also hope that one day there will be a cure for Type 1 diabetes too." As part of National Diabetes Week 2012 Diabetes Australia has launched the "Let's Prevent Diabetes" campaign and if you wish to find out more about this campaign please visit www.letspreventdiabetes.org.au For more information about diabetes, visit www.diabetesaustralia.com.au or call the national Diabetes Infoline: 1300 136 588.
