Free lesson plans for elementary teachers - How to Deal with Bullies for Little Peach Pit

05:08
This video presentation is the reading material for a free lesson plan on how to deal with bullies for elementary school teachers, based on the book "Little Peach Pit" by Grace Nava. The reading is provided here. The materials for the lesson, which include creating a "Kindness Tree," are available at http://little-peach-pit.com/ The book "Little Peach Pit" by Grace Nava is available at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Little-Peach-Pit-Grace-Nava-ebook/dp/B017Y39TXO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1451882115&sr=8-2&keywords=Grace+Nava, and other bookstores. However, for the lessons the book is not necessary. “Little Peach Pit is recommended for readers of preschool age through second grade, though younger children would also enjoy it. Children of all ages will learn about how to handle bullying as well as how to use their conscience and work ethic to persevere so they can become what they are meant to be, just like the little peach pit.” Foreword Review “Nava does an admirable job of generating sympathy for the protagonist, who just wants to fit in and do his job well. She introduces concepts of prayer and perseverance in an easy, nondenominational manner.” Kirkus Review “I loved this book…..It was a perfect read for our son…A very fitting subject for our time. Kudos to the author. “ Amazon Customer “Loved it!” Amazon Customer Kindle version: http://www.amazon.com/Little-Peach-Pit-Grace-Nava-ebook/dp/B017Y39TXO/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1451882115&sr=8-2 Ideas on how to use this presentation: - Introduce children to coping strategies to cope with bullying - Help children to be sensitive to other people's feelings - Create a good environment for diversity - Encourage children to respect differences - Help the children to break the cycle of reprisal/retaliation by emphasizing that "two wrongs don't make a right." Why teachers selling lesson plans have sparked debate

07:06
To earn extra money, many teachers around the country are selling lesson plans via online marketplaces. But as such sites become more popular, there are also concerns, including who legally owns the educational materials a teacher creates, and what it means for the collaborative spirit of the profession. Special correspondent Kavitha Cardoza of Education Week reports from Alabama.

Skillsroad Teachers Lesson Plans - Lesson 4 - "Learning Styles"

01:19
"Lesson 4 - Learning Styles It’s one thing providing students with great free resources, but it’s another thing helping them make sense of the results and to distil the information to use effectively. This lesson introduces students to the differences in learning styles that exist between people. Students are encouraged to begin to consider how consideration of their individual preferences and characteristics can help guide their career decisions. Students are asked to pick from descriptions of learning styles that they feel are most representative of them before completing a Learning Styles Questionnaire to determine their personal leaning preferences. Each learning preference is then explained in more detail and students are asked to reflect on how accurate they were in selecting their learning style preferences before they completed the questionnaire. The value of being aware of their individual learning style is then discussed. Please Note - This is only an introduction to the lesson plan - please view the full lesson plan at http://www.skillsroad.com.au/teachers/lesson-plans-and-resources/career-planning-lesson-plans"

Skillsroad Teachers Lesson Plans - Lesson 5 - "Resiliance"

01:46
Lesson 5 - Resiliance It’s one thing providing students with great free resources, but it’s another thing helping them make sense of the results and to distil the information to use effectively. Firstly, students are asked to brainstorm what they think it means to be resilient. Resilience is then clearly defined and the importance of showing resilience is explained. Students are asked to consider their own strengths and abilities, as well as situations when they have experienced failure and how they reacted in these situations. Famous examples of resilience are presented to show that everyone experiences failure and that it is not failure itself but how you respond to failure that can determine whether you eventually achieve succeed. Finally, students take part in an activity that will test their resilience and provides a practical example of what it means to be resilient. ESL Teaching Tips: A Lesson Plan for Your Very First Day

04:05
Here are some quick tips for new ESL teachers. This video focuses on developing a workable lesson plan, in this case, I present a plan for what I found to be a fairly successful introductory lesson for both elementary and middle school. At first, you might be tempted to write out elaborate and detailed plans for your ESL classes, where the lesson plan almost becomes a script to be read, rather than a rough guide. This kind of lesson plan is nearly certain to fail miserably. Flexibility is critical to a good lesson plan. Repetition and variation is needed to help the students retain the information covered in class. Try to design a lesson plan in modules, with each chunk being 5-25 minutes. The most important one should come first, and, with a flexible modular design, if the important lesson runs long, one of the latter modules can be eliminated, or covered during the next class. And remember: languages are not learned by listening to a lecture given in that language; language is acquired by engaging with it, by actively using it. If you only remember one thing, remember this: Your students should be talking far more than you are. ~Kyle Clements

Fraction kits have been around for a while and many effective math teachers use them to help their students gain a stronger grasp of fractions. This video demonstrates my approach to creating a fraction kit and was designed to serve as a follow-along activity. Unlike our animated math lessons, this VLOG will walk you through a hands on, real world math activity that explores fractions, equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, number sense, and even as a decimals introduction activity later on. This fun math activity is perfect for homeschool, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, and middle school and even high school as well. The required materials for such math activities include construction paper, markers, scissors, and a ruler. Our lessons are perfect for flipped classroom math teachers and students. This lesson is aligned with the common core learning standards for math and the SAT math curriculum as well. As young educators, we know that all students learn math differently and that a one-size-fits-all approach is simply ineffective. The idea that the ability to understand mathematics is reserved for a select few did not sit well with us. In addition to sharing free teacher resources (which are teacher created resources) in the form of teacher worksheets, we share new YouTube math videos every week that help math teachers and students to better understand mathematics and the common core. Our lessons can be aligned with the common core standards for common core math and are immensely popular with flipped learning educators and anyone experimenting with flipped classroom learning. As educators, we know what it takes to be a super math teacher and that we can’t always do it alone. In addition to our cool math videos, we share articles, blogs, inspirational quotes, teacher math worksheets, and math worksheets. Whether you teach in the flipped classroom, operate in blended education or online blended learning, or are interested in finding cool math online, MashUp Math will have something for you! Many students think of us as a math tutor online or as their on-demand online tutor. Others trust us for all things related to online math education—coming to use when they find themselves thinking “I don’t understand my homework assignment! and need some homework help! It is also a part of our mission to make progressive steps in mathematics education. For one, our content is created with the goal of moving students from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. We also aim to meet the unique needs of ESL math students and support math for girls as well. Many of our users serve as a special education teacher and use our cool videos to support their special education students with special needs. Our free online math lessons are also high adaptable to your homeschool curriculum and should be added to your list of free homeschool resources. We are also very involved in the edtech world and are very popular with Google Classroom educators, Math Games Classroom Educators, and teachers who support the use of iPad for education! So if you could use some help with everyday math and are a student with a unique learning style or learning styles—like Visual Auditory Learning! Or if you’re tired of math games and are more interested in an easy-to-follow tutorial, check us out and learn math with us. No matter your school’s standards of learning, our YouTube Math Videos Lessons will work for you! And if you love STEM and Math Education as much as we do, be sure to visit us at this year’s ISTE 2016 EdTech Conference in Denver, CO on June 26-29th! Skillsroad Teachers Lesson Plans - Lesson 7 - "Discipline"

01:27
"Lesson 7 - Disciplne It’s one thing providing students with great free resources, but it’s another thing helping them make sense of the results and to distil the information to use effectively. This lesson covers the third of four key characteristics of successful people; discipline. This lesson begins with a fun activity designed to test the student’s discipline. Students are then asked to consider and discuss the importance of discipline in achieving their goals. An entertaining but insightful TED talk is included to promote greater thought and discussion about the importance of discipline. Students are asked to discuss the techniques they use to stay disciplined and think about what else they could do to become more disciplined. The lesson then goes on to suggest and explain various techniques that students could use to help maintain discipline. Please Note - This is only an introduction to the lesson plan - please view the full lesson plan at http://www.skillsroad.com.au/teachers/lesson-plans-and-resources/career-planning-lesson-plans"
