MQS SD - The Newest Physical Retail Music Format
A look at a Hi-Res pre-recorded physical music format, MQS SD. There is some important info in this video description text box... MQS SD is sold in South Korea & HK for use with the Astell & Kern Hi-Res Personal Audio Players which feature MicroSD card storage slots. Astell & Kern use MQS to define HD Audio in a FLAC format with a 24bit encoding. According to their specs the KHz sample rate can vary depending on the source between 48KHz and 192KHz. The Beatles LP seems to be a special case because it’s just 44.1 KHz and I suspect this is because that’s the best source currently available. Back in 2014 manufacturers and record companies got together to define a system to code HD audio files. Here’s what they came up with. MQ-A - Taken from an Analogue Master Source MQ-C - Sourced from a 16bit 44.1KHz CD master and upsampled MQ-D - Sourced directly from a Direct Stream Digital DSD Master MQ-P - Sourced from a minimum 20bit master with a minimum 48KHz sample rate I haven’t seen these in use anywhere since, perhaps the descriptions were considered too verbose when you then combine them with the filetype AIFF, ALAC, FLAC or WAV. So what is MQS? Well as the video shows it’s not exactly nailed down in A&K’s description and I suspect that it’s just a simplification of the existing system. If you look at this South Korean music download site http://www.groovers.kr/mqs/chart/domestic?d=-1091701920 you can see they use MQS to identify HD tracks and then use a code like MQS 24/192 to identify the quality. The logo stands out in red on the page and the system is slightly simpler than stating a file is “HD Audio MQ-D FLAC 24/192” Whether the average human ear is capable of hearing the difference between all these things - I haven't a clue and I don't have a horse in that race...I'm just interested in collecting formats. I'm particularly interested in physical packed pre-recorded music...music in a box sold as a retail product. This is the most recent packaged music format (as far as I know). Yes SD cards and FLAC are not new...but putting them together in a nice box with cover-art and a booklet is...and that's what this video is about...something you probably weren't aware existed. SNAKEOIL - It's a flippant joke at the vague definition of the benefits of MQS over normal FLAC HiRes audio files...is there really any difference? It appears MQS is just 24 bit FLAC. I AM NOT SAYING HI-RES AUDIO IS SNAKEOIL ...just that I can see no discernible technical differences between 24 bit FLAC and MQS. Perhaps there is one...and if so A&K need to do a better job of defining exactly what the specific benefits of MQS difference are. UPDATE No one has to buy these. Your existing choice of music delivery medium will continue to function irrespective of the success or failure of MQS SD. That's because the politicians wanted to create shortages of everything ... just kidding ... whatever they did it for, shortages was what they got, by the laws of economics ... In the US one of the prices that was fixed was the price of labor ... in other words salaries. Now when the economy started to hum again after the war, but salaries were still held fixed, employers were desperate to increase salaries to attract new employees AND keep their old ones. So they came up with a trick to offer bigger salaries without breaking the law ... they offered benefits. The most popular benefit turned out to be health plans, first just a basic plan for the employee himself, then for the whole family and eventually one that included every possible imaginable health expense as employers competed over the best employees. Have you ever wondered why in the US everyone has a health plan through their employer? (before Obama care, that is) Is there any advantage for the employer or employee? Think about it ... For employers it's another stupid thing to worry about that distracts them from their business ... and for employees it's extra stupid because they run the risk of losing their health plan exactly when they get so sick that they can't work anymore. I can't think of anyone who would prefer this ... other than health plan companies who find it easier to negotiate with big companies than with individual clients and who can often get rid of sick patients when they get so sick that they have to leave their job. So who came up with that? The answer is, the IRS ... by accident. When after the war employers started to offer health plans as a way to legally increase salaries, employees didn't think of declaring them in their taxes. Later the IRS kind of tried to enforce taxing employer paid health benefits but it was just politically not feasible anymore and thus it accidentally became law that health plans were tax exempt if and only if they were offered through the employer. So ... Accidentally!!!! ... a big incentive was created for a totally distorted health system. Oops ... A health system that had an incentive to be insured through the employer, but maybe worse, to include everything, from terminal cancer to an ear infection. Check out our video "the Myth of the efficient single payer health system" on why all-you-can-eat health plans are a really bad idea. Bonus fun fact: Say you can pick between a health plan that costs $600/month and that includes everything including $20 antibiotics and $10 flu shots, or a $50/month plan that only kicks in if you have a super serious health problem like ALS or a serious car accident. Which of the plans do you think you'll be able to pay while you're that sick? I think that even if I got the $600 plan I might get the $50 plan too, just in case.

Exceptional Benefits for Outstanding Executives, Steve Savant and Don Prehn (B-26)
https://www.insmark.com// Executive Bonus Plans are one of the most generous of non-qualified benefits.  Deductible bonuses are paid by the employer to selected executives to cover the premiums on a life insurance policy with an emphasis on cash accumulation. The life insurance is typically designed to produce significant amounts of tax free cash flow to the executive during retirement as well as protection for the family in the event of the executive’s premature death. Standard Variations (#1, #2, #3, #4 can all be illustrated in the InsMark Illustration System.) 1. Single Bonus Plan:  The executive pays the income tax on the bonus.  This is the lowest level of executive bonus plan, but in, say, a 30% tax bracket, the executive owns all the policy values at 30 cents on the dollar -- quite a valuable fringe benefit. 2. Graded Bonus Plan:  A single bonus gradually increases so it ends up covering both the premium and the tax on the bonus.  This rewards an up-and-coming executive with a calibrated increase in bonuses. 3. Gross-up Bonus Plan:  A bonus is large enough to cover the premium and the tax on the bonus in all years.  This is top dog among the standard variations and is the most rewarding. 4. Controlled Bonus Plan:  The executive has an obligation to repay all (or a portion of) the bonus if termination of employment occurs by a certain date or an event such as retirement.  All the plans listed can include this feature.  Often perceived as a better, less-complicated alternative than loan regime split dollar, this version is typically used with non-owner executives.  It also provides a benefit for the employer through recovery of previously paid bonuses when an executive leaves the firm earlier than designated in the agreement establishing the plan.  The death of the executive usually voids any repayment obligations.  The Controlled Bonus Plan is also effective for officers and directors of publicly-owned companies where, thanks to Sarbanes-Oxley legislation, loan regime split dollar cannot currently be used. Leveraged Variations (#5 can be illustrated in the InsMark Leveraged Compensation System.) (#6 can be illustrated in the InsMark Illustration System.) (#7 can be illustrated in the InsMark Premium Financing System.) 5. Leveraged Bonus Plan:  This is generally used with single bonus plans combined with loans from the employer to cover the executive’s tax on the bonus.  This adds a recovery benefit for the employer through the loan repayment. 7. Self-Leveraged Bonus Plan:  This combines a single bonus from the employer with loans on the policy made by the executive during premium paying years to provide the cash flow for the income tax on the bonus.  This variation is very cost efficient to both the employer and the executive; however, the policy loans during premium paying years reduce the policy cash value which correspondingly reduces the tax free cash flow to the executive during retirement.  This can be offset by increasing the premiums and face amount of the policy. Note:  A Self-Leveraged Bonus Plan was examined in detail in http://insmarkblog.com/2-anyone-want-a-free.html 8. Bank-Leveraged Bonus Plan:  This combines a single bonus from the employer with a loan from a bank to cover the executive’s tax on the bonus.  (Some life insurance companies provide the loan for the tax on the bonus, and InsMark can illustrate this feature as well.)  With bank loans, the employer often uses its banking connections to facilitate the loans to the executive.  Funds to repay the loans are usually borrowed from the policy.  This reduces the policy cash value which reduces the executive’s tax free cash flow from policy loans during retirement.  This can be offset by increasing the premiums and face amount of the policy. Options • Unrestricted Access to Cash Values:  This is generally used with sole or majority owner-executives, but can be applied to all variations. • Deferred Access to Cash Values:  This involves an Endorsement of Ownership Rights agreement often used with non-owner key executives ensuring that the cash values of the policy are used as intended, typically for retirement income. The National Cadet Corps is the Indian military cadet corps with its Headquarters at New Delhi. It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis. National Cadet Corps is a Tri-Services Organization, comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. The officers and cadets have no liability for active military service once they complete their course but are given preference over normal candidates during selections based on the achievements in the corps. NCC stands for National Cadet Corps its Headquarters at New Delhi, Delhi, India. Eligibility to join NCC are : -Student must be a citizen of India or Nepal -Student must be enrolled in any educational institute -Student must be physically and mentally active and fit. Age criteria to join NCC : -13 to 18 years for Junior Wing or Division -18 to 24 years for Senior Wing or Division Enrollment period in NCC : -2 years for Junior Wing or Division -3 years for Senior Wing or Division. Since, there is no separate training for NCC, students will have to join in the school from where they are enrolled. Household income in this age group took a big hit, and now most people don’t have even $100k saved for retirement. See, retirement won’t be the same for our generation. Our parents had the government and their employers’ defined benefit plans to fund their golden years. The employer did the math and the employee was on cruise control. It’s different for Gen X and Y because in the age of the 401k you are the one driving. You need some investment skill in order to allocate your money intelligently to the fund options on the 401k menu. Gen X needs to step up to the plate, yet not enough Xers have sat down and figured out how much money they will need to retire. They are now the ones in the driver’s seat…and it’s going to be a rocky road ahead given that social security is on its last feeble breath and who knows what will happen with Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, and every other government funded benefit that our broke country can’t afford anymore. So heads up, women, because here’s some advice on the real, from one to another. Considering that it is a rarity for people to stay married anymore, more women than ever before are now assuming the role of CFFO, or Chief Family Financial Officer. Yet the numbers imply that, disappointingly, many of us women expect someone else to make decisions about money for us. Unbelievable. Women, we are growing more powerful and we need to step up to the plate when it comes to money. This is a clarion call to the women of Gen X and Gen Y: pay more attention to saving and investing your money because more of us are outearning men, becoming as educated as men, and finally, likely to be without a man (divorced, separated, or never married) than our mothers, aunts, and grandmothers. You can’t eat that $3k retail value Prada bag when you’re 80 years old. And those Manolo’s won’t pay your medical bills either. So you should be obsessing over which mutual fund to pick in a 401(k) plan instead of over whether to buy the Hermes or Ralph Lauren Ricky Bag in Red Crocodile. People can make a lot of mistakes when choosing the best Medicare Supplement plan or the best Medicare Advantage Plan to fit their needs. We put together some of the biggest mistakes people make when they sign up for Medicare and are picking a Medigap plan or Medicare Part C Plan. The first mistake a lot of people make when they are turning 65 and going on Medicare is they wait too long to learn about Medicare Part A, Medicare Part B, Medicare Part C, Medicare supplement plans, and Medicare Advantage plans. The second top mistake people make is they don't get Medicare Part B when they are first eligible. They wait because they think they will save money if they don't use it and they don't need it. The problem is that if you wait to take part b you could be penalized when you finally do sign up at a later date. So get part b when you are first eligible unless you have other creditable coverage. The third big mistake people make when they are turning 65 Medicare is they purchase the most expensive plan. They do this thinking this will be the best option because it costs the most. This is not always the case. The best Medicare Supplement Plan may cost less than the most expensive one. The best Medicare Advantage plan for your specific needs may not be the most expensive plan available, in fact most times it is not the best way to go. So don't buy the most expensive plan. Do your research or call us! The fourth mistake people make is that they listen to a friend or relative telling them that the plan they have is the best and it will be the best for you. Don't do this because everyone has different needs, the best medicare supplement plan for you may be different than the best plan for them. EI Working While On Claim
We’re improving Employment Insurance so that it works better for the Canadians that need it, when they need it. If you are collecting EI benefits – including regular, fishing, parental, compassionate care or parents of critically ill children – and have a chance to pick up part time or occasional work: good news. You can keep more money with the Working While on Claim pilot Project. And now, with a new, more flexible pilot in effect until August 2018, you have a choice of two options to better support your job prospects. That means you can earn more weekly income if you work while receiving EI benefits. Here’s how it works. For every dollar you earn you keep 50 cents of your EI benefits up to maximum of 90 percent of your weekly insurable earnings. Automatically, because there’s no need to apply – simply inform Service Canada of any income earned while receiving EI benefits. Or you may choose to revert to another option for the length of your claim, which allows you to keep up to $75 or the equivalent of roughly one day’s work. You can call Service Canada at the end of your claim to find out which option is better for you. Either way, you can gain experience and keep your skills up to date. Press Conference: Community Benefits Agreement Signing
Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and members of the building construction unions signed a Community Benefits Agreement covering the construction of Fire Station 35 on the Far East Side. The agreement, the first of its kind in the history of Columbus, enhances cooperation between workers and the city, eliminating risks of delays and disruption to the project because of labor disputes; guarantees local workforce for a percentage of the project; and offers benefits for the community, such as apprenticeships, focused job recruitment and diversity and inclusion plans. This agreement sets local workforce goals of 25 percent for Franklin County and 20 percent for the City of Columbus. The Community Benefits Agreement includes provisions that increase apprenticeship opportunities and recruitment plans geared toward minorities, women and low-income residents. It also recognizes that, historically, women and people of color have not been well-represented in the trades. To address that issue, each union signing this agreement will create and implement diversity and inclusion plans that are specific and measurable. The agreement establishes the formation of the Community and Workforce Committee made up of representatives from the Columbus Building Construction Trades Council, the City of Columbus and organizations, such as the NAACP, dedicated to the advancement of minorities, women and low-income residents.
