Your Prenatal Vitamin Needs a Check-up

Many prenatals currently don't contain correct amounts of key nutrients, such as folic acid, iodine, and choline. Tod Cooperman, M.D. of ConsumerLab.com explains what to look for to get the best prenatal vitamin for you and your child while avoiding risks. Dr. Cooperman discusses the latest recommendation from the American Medical Association that prenatal vitamins should include choline, a nutrient which is rarely added to prenatal vitamins, or added in insufficient amounts. He also discusses the difference between folate and folic acid, which form is best, and how much you need while pregnant -- and other important nutrients to look for, such as iron, vitamin C, and other B vitamins. Why are Prenatal Vitamins Important? Dr Marc Boyd Recommendation

02:20
In this video I want to talk about the best prenatal vitamins and why it is important to have a specific amount of ingredients in each one. When selecting a prenatal vitamin make sure it has... ► My Prenatal Vitamin recommendations below... Today we are talking about why prenatal vitamins are important. You want to make sure that you have the following nutrients in your prenatal vitamins. ► 1) Garden of Life Prenatal ( https://amzn.to/2pEIHrM ) ► 2) New Chapter Perfect Prenatal ( https://amzn.to/2I3ho1c ) ► 3) Rainbow Light - Prenatal One Multivitamin ( https://amzn.to/2Gdff2o ) 1 ) Folate ( Folic Acid ) - This will decrease the risk of problems in your babies brain and spinal cord development. How much Folate (Folic acid) should your Prenatal vitamin have in its ingredients? 400mcg per day! 400 micograms. Most prenatal vitamins have that amount of Folate (Folic Acid) in them, but you have to make sure and check. Don't miss this important ingredient. 2 ) Make sure you are not throwing up your prenatal vitamins, this obviously defeats the purpose of your prenatal vitamins. 3 ) Make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins before you get pregnant, that is the most important thing. If you start taking them after you realize you are pregnant you will be missing out on the nutrients your baby needs in the beginning development stages of the brain and spinal cord. Why should a woman take a prenatal vitamin rather than a multivitamin?

01:32
A lot of women have questions about prenatal vitamins versus multivitamins, and is one better than the other(?), which one should you be taking(?). And you're doing well if you're thinking about taking a vitamin every day period. Either will be good for you, but there are times in your life when a prenatal vitamin would be more advantageous, because if you look at the ingredients of both, a prenatal vitamin has about double the amount of folic acid and iron. And these are things that a pregnant woman needs more of, also, a woman who's breastfeeding. And for this reason, all women of childbearing age, whether you intend on having a baby or not, should take a prenatal vitamin daily, because let's face it, sometimes women get pregnant when they weren't planning on it. One of the biggest pros to taking a prenatal vitamin is the increased amount of folic acid. Folic acid is really important, because it helps a specific type of birth defect called spina bifida, and if there's not enough of this in the woman's body at the time of conception, then it can lead to spina bifida. And these problems happen before a woman even knows she's pregnant, so it's good to take a prenatal vitamin at any point in pregnancy, but it's especially important to take it before you even get pregnant. If you have more questions about which one you should be taking, talk with your doctor. And based on their knowledge of your health history and your current needs, they'll be able to give you the best advice. If you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.

What Do Prenatal Vitamins Do?

::: http://nuralis.com/prenatal ::: Limited Time Offer: Get 20% Off Immediately With Coupon Code "OM8ACMII" What do prenatal vitamins do? Prenatal vitamins cover nutritional gaps that occur in the diet of pregnant women. They have the right vitamins and minerals in the appropriate amounts for women trying to conceive, pregnant or breastfeeding. They are necessary because it's hard to get all the nutrients you and your baby need, even if your diet is close to perfect. If you have a strict and healthy diet, you may already be getting what you need. ::: http://nuralis.com/prenatal ::: Limited Time Offer: Get 20% Off Immediately With Coupon Code "OM8ACMII" But two crucial nutrients, folic acid and iron, are always included in prenatal vitamins because most pregnant women don't get enough of them from food alone. Getting enough folic acid can reduce your baby's risk of neural tube defects by 50% to 70%. As your body absorbs the synthetic version of folic acid better than the natural one found in food, a supplement is strongly recommended even if you eat a balanced diet. ::: http://nuralis.com/prenatal ::: Limited Time Offer: Get 20% Off Immediately With Coupon Code "OM8ACMII" Most moms-to-be don't get enough iron in their diet to meet their body's increased need during pregnancy. Taking enough iron can reduce your risk of preterm delivery, low birth weight and infant mortality. Another important ingredient is Calcium. It helps prevent you from losing your own bone density, as your baby uses calcium for its own bone growth. Remember : Prenatal vitamins are a complement to a healthy diet, not a substitute for good nutrition ! ::: http://nuralis.com/prenatal ::: Limited Time Offer: Get 20% Off Immediately With Coupon Code "OM8ACMII"

Why is it important for a woman to take prenatal vitamins?

02:32
Because 50% of pregnancies are unplanned, all women of childbearing age should take a prenatal vitamin whether they intend on getting pregnant of not. There are a lot of essential vitamins and minerals in a prenatal vitamin that both a woman and her growing baby need during pregnancy and while nursing. So really, again, that's why it's good to just take during all of your childbearing years. Choose a prenatal vitamin that has at least 400 micrograms of folic acid in it. This is just 1 important ingredient. And if a woman doesn't have enough circulating folic acid in her system prior to conception, then it increases the chances of that baby having neural tube defects like spina bifida. And research has shown that a woman should be taking a prenatal vitamin for at least a month prior to conception in order to decrease this risk, and also throughout the first trimester. Now another thing to say about that is that during the first trimester, you feel really sick, and you struggle with nausea and vomiting. And sometimes, swallowing a big horse pill that doesn't taste very good just adds to the nausea and vomiting, or you just throw it right back up after you've swallowed it. And so there are things you can do to help with this. Take it with food. Sometimes it helps to take it with a small snack before bed. And if all else fails, talk with your OB provider about a gummy vitamin that would be better than nothing while you're having a hard time stomaching the larger prenatal vitamin. A couple other important ingredients to highlight in a prenatal vitamin are vitamin D and iron. And prenatal vitamins will have at least 600 international units of vitamin D in them, which a pregnant and nursing mother needs. And iron is also really important for a pregnant woman. And if you're having a hard time stomaching them, again, if you can take them on at least 3 to 4 days of the week, that's best. And research has shown that at least taking them on 2 days of the week will help you get the supplemental iron that you need. Iron can cause constipation, and so if you're taking a prenatal vitamin and having issues with constipation (which you're likely to have anyway, because you're pregnant - that can also cause it), talk with your OB provider about ways to alleviate that. They may recommend a stool softener. And also, you should drink a lot of water and bump up the fiber contents of the foods that you're eating. Even if you're eating a pretty well-rounded diet, it's good to take a prenatal vitamin to ensure that you and the baby are optimally healthy. If you have more questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.

Best Time To Take Vitamins and Supplements

02:56
Do you know how to take your vitamins and supplements? Timing is everything when it comes to taking your vitamins and supplements, so we've put together a guide to help you maximize the powerful health benefits that come from taking them at the right time. Read more about this on our blog: http://blog.professionalsupplementcenter.com/the-best-time-to-take-nutritional-supplements/ Morning: -Probiotics - Probiotics are best taken in the morning on an empty stomach. • When the stomach is empty, digestive activity is quiet and stomach acid and pH balance are relatively low, increasing the chances for the helpful microorganisms to thrive. -Iron - Iron is best absorbed in the morning on an empty stomach. • Caffeine, dairy and calcium can negatively affect absorption, so it's best to avoid these for several hours after taking iron. -Multivitamins - Take multivitamins with your first meal. In the morning! • As multivitamins contain both water and fat soluble vitamins, be sure to include some healthy fats with your meal for optimal absorption. -B-Complex vitamins - Taking B vitamins with breakfast helps to boost your metabolism and convert your food into energy, which can be used throughout the day. -Vitamin C- Vitamin C is best taken in the morning to support the immune system and boost energy levels. • Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin that lasts only a few hours in the blood stream, so if your formula recommends more than 1 tablet per day, take it in divided doses with meals to get the full benefit. Noon: -CoQ10 - CoQ10 is best taken at lunch time with a meal that contains dietary fats. • Avoid taking CoQ10 late in the day so it doesn't disturb your sleep. -Vitamin D - Vitamin D is best taken with a meal that contains dietary fats. • It's possible that Vitamin D can negatively affect sleep, so lunch time is a good time to get your Vitamin D. -Iodine - Iodine is not stored in the body, so regular intake is needed. kelp tablets taken with lunch may boost midday energy levels. -Vitamin K - Vitamin K is best absorbed along with dietary fats and ideally should be taken during the middle of the day. • Avoid taking vitamin K if you are taking Coumadin or any anticoagulant prescription drug, as Vitamin K can interfere with the effects of the medication. Night: - Fish oil - Important to support many aspects of health, fish oil is best taken with a main meal like dinner to aid absorption. -Calcium - Calcium aids nerve transmission and muscle function. To get the full benefit, take calcium in the evening along with magnesium. -Magnesium - Magnesium has a calming effect on the muscles and nervous system and may aid restful sleep. • Magnesium works synergistically with calcium, so take these together either as individual supplements or in a combined formula. In addition: -Digestive Enzymes - Digestive enzymes can be taken with any meal or within 30 minutes of your meal. Unless you have serious digestive issues, they don't necessarily need to be taken with light meals or snacks, but can be very beneficial for optimal breakdown and absorption of nutrients when taken with main meals. -Fiber - Fiber supplements may be taken either first thing in the morning or before bed. Be sure to take fiber with a full glass of water and get plenty of water during the day. Fiber can delay or reduce the absorption of certain medications so always check with your healthcare provider before taking. What is the Best Prenatal Vitamin?

01:51
What is the best prenatal vitamin? Whatever nourishes you and your baby best. If I knew, I wouldn't ask! Women need more folic acid and iron during pregnancy. Prenatal vitamins have more of these compounds than generic multivitamins. I've heard of premium prenatal vitamins like Pre-Nate Elite. What does that have that generic prenatal vitamins don't? Generic pre-natal vitamins don't have omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These compounds are linked to improved brain function. I've been overwhelmed with all the conflicting dietary advice. Eat this, but not too much, this but not that. Many pregnant women need more calcium and vitamin D. This is especially true when they start nursing. I'm not there yet. But I don't know how I'll handle a newborn, when I'm so tired already. Pregnant women often need extra iron supplements when they suffer anemia during pregnancy and have a meat aversion. Exhaustion is a sign of anemia. What if I'm not pregnant yet? This could just be a stomach bug. Women who want to get pregnant should start taking prenatal vitamins before they get pregnant. If you wait until you know you are pregnant, you may have missed the first 30 days where lack of folic acid causes birth defects. I wonder if the prenatal vitamins I picked up off the shelf could be making me sick. Which, in turn, leaves me exhausted. Prenatal vitamins can cause nausea, especially if they contain iron. You just said prenatal vitamins contain extra iron. Liquid vitamins are an option for those who throw up pills, or Vitafusion prenatal gummies. Or you get stuck with an iron shot. Literally. Talk to your doctor about what prenatal vitamins to take. Neither you nor the baby are helped when a cure for malnutrition makes you more miserable than you already are.

Prenatal Vitamins - Babylist Pregnancy Guide

03:17
You already know that good nutrition is a must during pregnancy, but do you need a prenatal vitamin? Which one? How do you choose? When should you start? Kate tells you more! Read on: https://www.babylist.com/hello-baby/best-prenatal-vitamins Loving this info? Babylist week-by-week pregnancy emails are like tips from you BFF, you big sis, and your OB all rolled into one! Sign-up here: https://www.babylist.com/pregnancy-emails -- You already know that good nutrition is a must during pregnancy. That’s why your shopping cart looks like a rainbow, and you’re planning meals with all the food groups. But let’s be honest: it’s hard to know if you’re really getting all the vitamins and minerals you and your child need. That’s where prenatal vitamins come in. They don’t replace a balanced diet, but instead act like backup – making sure you don’t fall short on the essential nutrients you need during pregnancy. Prenatal vitamins also deliver the extra amounts of nutrients needed during various stages of your little one’s development. For example, vitamin D and calcium are especially needed to build strong bones and teeth during the third trimester. Ideally, you should start taking prenatal vitamins at least a month before conception and throughout your entire pregnancy. In fact, it’s often best to take a prenatal vitamin every day if there’s a chance you could get pregnant at all, even if you’re not planning for it. That’s because crucial neurological development takes place during the first month of pregnancy, when folic acid would offer the most protective benefits. Prenatal vitamins are readily available over the counter and a prescription is generally unnecessary. (Note: Check with your insurance to see if they cover prenatal vitamins. If so, you’ll likely need your doctor to give you a prescription for them.) Every vitamin can differ in the types and amounts of nutrients it contains because specific vitamin ingredients aren’t regulated by the FDA. If the vitamin you choose doesn’t contain the full recommended daily amount of a nutrient, be sure to eat foods that are high in that vitamin or mineral. When shopping for prenatal vitamins look for these four primary nutrients that are especially important during pregnancy (amounts are per day and recommended by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists): Folic acid - 600 mcg Iron - 27 mg Calcium - 1,000 mg Vitamin D - 600 IU The following vitamins are also essential during pregnancy, and you may not get enough of them through diet alone. Having these in your prenatals are helpful too: Vitamin A - 770 mcg (Note: The safest form of Vitamin A is beta-carotene or other carotenoids.) Vitamin C - 85 mg Vitamin B6 - 1.9 mg Vitamin B12 - 2.6 mcg Consider it a bonus if you find a prenatal vitamin that also contains omega-3 fatty acids. There’s strong evidence indicating that omega-3 fatty acids (particularly DHA)–a fat found in some types of fish–may play an important role in the development of your baby’s brain and nervous system. The March of Dimes recommends you get 200 mg of DHA a day through diet or supplementation. Vitamins come in multiple forms: pill, soft gel capsule and gummies. For some moms-to-be, swallowing and holding down a pill can be difficult especially when queasy. If that’s your situation, try a soft gel capsule or a gummy vitamin. Note: Gummy vitamins do not contain iron, so you’ll need an extra iron supplement for that. To make shopping for prenatal vitamins easier, we found several winning options for you to consider. Check them out: https://www.babylist.com/hello-baby/best-prenatal-vitamins When thinking about which prenatal vitamin to buy, consider what you typically eat and where your diet may fall short. If you’re a vegetarian, iron supplementation might be crucial. If you don’t eat dairy, calcium might be a must-have. Hate fish? Then look for a vitamin that contains DHA. If you still feel unsure about which prenatal vitamin is best for you, ask your doctor for a recommendation. Once you start a supplement that can help you keep up with the increased demands pregnancy makes on your body, you’ll rest easier. -- Looking for the best items for your growing family? While the prenatal vitamin is the basic supplement recommended to all expectant mothers, 1. know not all prenatals are created equal (grab your prenatal vitamin & check the ingredients!) and 2. there are other important supplements that should be taken to best support mama and baby. According to the research, yes take a prenatal multivitamin but consider taking other supplements as well to help fight neurological diseases, boost your mood, improve sleep, improve cognitive function and help with a variety of digestive issues. Recommendations: 1. Check your prenatal vitamins for this NOT RECOMMENDED vitamin 2. The supplement that can help fight ADHD & Autism 3. Ward off the blues and postpartum depression (+ boost baby's cognitive function!) 4. Gas, bloating, constipation, nausea....this could help! PRENATAVITE - Best Prenatal Vitamins for Before / After Pregnancy with DHA & lots of multivitamins

10:34
Many women wait to begin using their prenatal vitamins, until they discover they are pregnant. This is unfortunate because the body is like a stage that has to be set, and the best way to do that is to use the best prenatal vitamins possible. How can they help prior to becoming pregnant? Well, the body has to prepare itself fully for the healthiest pregnancy, and just for achieving pregnancy in general. Many doctors advise that both parents try to maintain optimal health and wellness for months ahead of conceiving. Using organic prenatal vitamins stocks your body with all of the nutrients essential to the healthiest pregnancy possible. This is particularly important for women who may also be low in nutrients due to such issues as: Adhering to a vegan or vegetarian diet Suffering from food or lactose intolerances Who smokes or is a substance abuser Who may have blood or eating disorders Who may have undergone any sort of gastric bypass procedure Naturally, you absolutely require the best prenatal vitamins once you are certain you are pregnant. While you might feel that you can get all you both need through diet, it is not often the case. Your body's needs change rapidly and even somewhat aggressively, and the constant growth of the baby means you need to always be a few steps ahead of the game. This is best done with a comprehensive prenatal vitamin. The best prenatal vitamins are actually designed to support the baby's health and changing needs as well as those of the mother. As we said a bit earlier, they will feature whole food sources that ensure easier digestion through the use of digestive enzymes. They will also have very specific ingredients to ensure optimal health. These specific items include: Adequate folic acid - This has to be at least 400 mcg of folic acid - This is a compound essential to preventing neural tube birth defects that can impact the child's spinal cord and brain. You can get this in green leafy vegetables, beans, nuts, citrus and fortified foods, but the best prenatal vitamins also include this in abundance. Most experts advise actually taking this at least a full month ahead of conception. Adequate calcium and vitamin D - This should be nothing less than 200-300 mg per serving (calcium) and 400 IU of vitamin D per serving. This is vital to the baby's bone growth and prevents the mother from losing bone density due to the baby's increasing needs for calcium. Enough iron - Carrying oxygen to the baby is one of the main reasons to ensure your vitamins have enough iron (at least 17mg per serving), but mothers can suffer from iron deficiency anemia which can lead to low birth weights, preterm delivery and other issues. Adequate essential fatty acids - Oddly enough, not many prenatal vitamins offer these, even though they are vital to the development of the baby's eyes, nerves, and brain. In particular, DHA is of significance, and yet because the major dietary source for it is fish (and pregnant women have to be very cautious about mercury levels in fish), a diet may be low in vital essential fatty acids like DHA. Thus, the best prenatal vitamins are those that feature a safe form of DHA. This is also something you pass to the baby via breast milk after delivery Enough iodine - Noted as being crucial to the mother's thyroid function, it ensures that the baby suffers no growth issues, mental disabilities, or deafness. Inadequate levels of iodine in the mother can also be a cause for miscarriage. Around 150 mcg of iodine should be part of the best prenatal vitamins. And do you need to continue with all of this after the baby arrives? Actually, many women feel just as depleted once they have given birth because they are now tasked with producing enough breast milk for the infant. This demands a lot of the body, and it is important to also note that the baby obtains all of its nutrients from breast milk - meaning that the best prenatal vitamins continue to supply the baby with what he or she needs long after childbirth occurs. prenatal vitamins prenatal prenatal dha dha prenatal thorne prenatal prenatal gummies vitafusion prenatal prenatal vitamins for women prenatal multivitamin rainbow prenatal organic prenatal vitamins rainbow light prenatal prenatal vitamins for men vitafusion prenatal vitamins enfamil expecta prenatal raw prenatal vitamins womens prenatal vitamins prenatal cradle gummy prenatal vitamins raw prenatal zahler prenatal prenatal gummy vitamins vegan prenatal vitamins best prenatal vitamins organic prenatal rainbow prenatal vitamins gnc prenatal vitamins womens prenatal gummy prenatal natural prenatal vitamins prenatal yoga best prenatal prenatal pills gnc prenatal natural prenatal prenatal yoga pants vegan prenatal prenatal one chewable prenatal vitamins prenatal vitamins gummies prenatal gummy perfect prenatal vitamins prenatal vitamins dha

Pregnancy Vlog 7: The Best Prenatal Vitamins | Product Review

06:15
http://365daysofselfcare.com -- In this video, I share with you my favorite brand of prenatal vitamins. They are awesome! Here are some of the reasons why: This prenatal is made from whole foods. Many of the vitamins on the market today are made from synthetic ingredients and chemicals. This only adds toxins to your body and could jeopardize your health and the health of your baby. So even thought whole food vitamins cost more, they're well worth it! This prenatal gives me tons of energy. With a toddler running around and a baby growing in my belly, I need all the energy I can get! This vitamin helps out a lot in that area. My hair and nails grow like crazy while I'm taking this vitamin. I love that. I may as well reap some beauty rewards during pregnancy. hahaha. This prenatal is made from raw fruits and veggies so it's providing the optimum nutrition to me & baby. I usually buy my vitamin from whole foods. But it's also available on amazon. Here's a link to it: http://tinyurl.com/kttejsd Also, check out my book, Daily Doses of Sanity for New Mommies. It's great for helping you peacefully transition into motherhood during those first few weeks after the baby is born. http://tinyurl.com/lc6p484

I'm trying to conceive. How can I know if the multivitamin I'm taking is good for that?

01:14
You mentioned that you're trying to have a baby, and you're taking a multivitamin, and wondering if it's going to meet your needs. When a woman is trying to conceive a baby, it's very important for her to take a prenatal vitamin. A prenatal vitamin will have all of the necessary ingredients that a pregnant woman will need in order to meet her needs and her baby's needs. But very specifically, one very important ingredient is folic acid. Just make sure you pick a prenatal vitamin that has at least 400 micrograms of folic acid in it. And this is important because folic acid helps to prevent spina bifida. This is a birth defect that can develop very early on in pregnancy before a woman even knows she's pregnant, so that's why it's important to take it while you're trying to conceive, so that it's on board when you do get pregnant. Now one other word about vitamins. A lot of women feel like if they take a specific type of vitamin, it's going to increase their chances of conceiving a baby. And there's so many other factors that go into fertility, but certain types of vitamins are not one of them. If you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.
