My Birth Control Story (Mirena)
This was a highly requested video over the years and now that I've finally had the Mirena IUD removed, I was happy to tell the tale. If you have any questions feel free to drop them below. Just to re-iterate I had the IUD implanted in September of 2011 and removed this May of 2016. This is what worked for me, obviously you'll need to discuss your options with your doctor to find out what's best for you. :) Snapchat xx @sarahhhrae Instagram xx @sarahhhrae Twitter xx @ravingsbyrae Don't forget you can get my calendar on sale now for only $10 + free shipping in the US at http://sarahraevargas.com

Signs You Are Pregnant While on Birth Control
What are the signs you are pregnant while on birth control? You hit that row of do nothing pills in the birth control pack and your period does not come. It could come late for other reasons like hormones out of whack. And it was concern that my hormones would be messed up that I did not use them. Then I cannot say that you got pregnant on the pill because you used antibiotics. Antibiotics can make you poop a lot, passing the pills through faster. If you were taking thyroid medication, it would metabolize them faster. However, if you get a stomach bug and throw them up, you could get pregnant. If I’m throwing up a lot, that’s a sign I am pregnant on birth control. If you are nauseous or throwing up in the morning but not in the afternoon or evening, then it is likely due to pregnancy. If it is all day, then you may need antibiotics or another medication. I have not been taking antibiotics. If you were on the pill, you’d be able to guess you were pregnant if you had a light period the next cycle and none the one after that. With a birth control implant, though, a woman would not have a period at all. Well, most of the time. You could develop breast tenderness in early pregnancy. I get that with my normal cycle. Peeing a lot is a sign of pregnancy. Or a urinary tract infection. If you used an injected contraceptive, your odds of pregnancy are really low barring medication that interferes with it. I do not use the injectables. What are the other signs I could be pregnant while on birth control? If you used an intrauterine, it causes heavier than normal periods. If you’re pregnant, the period stops. That’s usually normal regardless of the contraception method. You could be certain you did a pregnancy test and it came back positive. Don’t birth control methods interfere with that? If you used a condom, cervical cap or even an intrauterine, you’d have the normal hormonal cycles for ovulation and pregnancy. It is only the hormone based pills and shots that throw off your hormones. And it may be that my contraceptive method failed. If you were taking birth control pills, the estrogen or progesterone won’t throw off the pregnancy test. In fact, no medicine you take for anything would mess it up. So a pregnancy test is the best way to see if I’m pregnant. And it would be a sure sign to talk to your doctor about the best way to stop your birth control, since you clearly won’t need it for a while.

How Intrauterine Device Prevent Pregnancy? - Manipal Hospital
This video is an informative animated presentation that explains in detail about Intra Uterine Device (IUD), a method of long lasting pregnancy prevention. An Intra Uterine Device or IUD is a birth control method consisting of a soft flexible T-shaped device with a thin string on the end. There are two types of Intrauterine Devices, Hormonal IUDs and Copper IUDs. To prevent pregnancy, a doctor places an IUD inside the uterus, with the string hanging down inside her vagina. Both types of IUD cause mild inflammation of the uterine lining, which releases immune cells and chemicals that kill sperm and thereby prevent fertilisation. Hormonal IUDS contain a synthetic type of progesterone called the Levonorgestrel. The Levonorgestrel mainly helps in preventing pregnancy by thickening the mucus inside the cevix, which prevents sperm from entering the uterus. It also prevents the uterine lining from thickening so it is less likely to receive a fertilized egg. About a month after inserting an IUD, the doctor may schedule an exam to make sure it is still in place. The doctor may also teach the woman, how to check her IUD between visits, by feeling the string inside the vagina. Depending on the type, an IUD can be left in place for three to 10 years. Watch the video to learn more in detail about Intra Uterine Device (IUD) as an effective birth control and family planning method. How effective is mirena to prevent pregnancy? - Dr. Shefali Tyagi
Mirena takes care of the side effects of Copper T. It has a hormone wing attached to it. It releases a little bit of hormone every day. So in majority of the women, the cycles stop in six months time. The side effect of Copper T which is heavy bleeding is taken care of by Mirena.. It does not effect your fertility at all. You might not have periods till the time the Mirena is in which is 5 years, but this does not mean you can't conceive again. You can always plan your next child once the Mirena is out.. In Western countries, Mirena is widely used. But it has not gained a lot of popularity in India as its expensive. Here, its restricted to people with heavy bleeding or who specifically want Mirena. Its a great option as side effects as minimal..

What is the best birth control after having a baby?
After having a baby there are lots of different options for contraception. Just remember that don't depend on breastfeeding alone as a form of contraception because you may be coming to the hospital nine months later if you think that's the case. Your period can return 7-14 weeks after having a baby so it's always a good idea to have some form of contraception on board the first time you have intercourse after having a baby. As far as what options are available, there are lots and the best thing to do would be to talk to your doctor who can discuss your health history, your pregnancy history, and all the different options that are available because some are appropriate -- there are some forms of birth control that aren't appropriate for certain people based on their health history and other things that may have happened to them in the past. I'll go through a couple of options with you and you can bring them up with your doctor based on what I've discussed and what sounds like it would be good for you. There is the mini-pill. It is just oral contraception that you take every day and it's 95%-99% reliable if taken correctly. However if you miss a pill you can get pregnant and it can increase your chances of blood clots, heart attack, and stroke especially for smokers and people who are over the age of 35. Again, this would be appropriate for some people and not for others. There is the diaphragm. It's a small rubber cup that is actually inserted up inside the vagina with spermicide on it. It's only about 80%-94% effective if it's used correctly. It can be inserted six hours before intercourse and stay in for 24 hours. Some women love it but others hate it because it can be a little bit uncomfortable and difficult to place. There is also an IUD which stands for intrauterine device and this has to be placed by the doctor, it can be done at your six week check-up if you'd like. It goes up inside the uterus and helps prevent you from getting pregnant. It's actually 97%-99% effective. A lot of women like it because you just get it placed and you don't ever have to think about it again until it expires. The copper kinds are good for up to 10 years and there are plastic kinds that release hormones that are good for up to five years. There are some cons. Your uterus can be perforated when the doctor places it. It can increase the risk for pelvatory inflammatory disease for some women. It can cause irregular cramping, bleeding, and spotting. Again it would be the best thing for you to talk to your doctor and they can discuss different options with you and decide what would be best for you. If you have any other questions for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.

My IUD Pregnancy Story
I’ve had a lot of questions recently after mentioning that i became pregnant with my youngest while I had an IUD. This is not a typical video for me but I wanted to share my story so that other mamas out there have some encouragement if you are pregnant with an IUD! I remember being so anxious and searching for videos of other families that had a successful pregnancies like I was going through. I switched from the Paragaurd IUD to the Mirena IUD the fall of 2014. I loved the convenience and “reliability” of IUD’s and thought I was done having kiddos. I found out a month later that I was pregnant and the IUD had shifted position making it impossible to remove it without also loosing the baby. We opted to leave it in place and watch carefully as our baby grew. I was very closely monitored over the course of my pregnancy. Everything progressed beautifully and my sweet Tanner was born the following summer! Gods timing is perfect and he is the cherry on top of our family!!! Life wouldn’t be the same without him and I’m so thankful!!!

What can I expect after having the mirena IUD removed?
After having the IUD removed, a woman can technically get pregnant anytime after it's removed, because the next time she has an ovulatory cycle she could get pregnant. And IUDs don't affect your body's ability to ovulate, so you continue to ovulate even with and IUD, but the methods of contraception are different. So you still ovulate, and you'll still ovulate once it's out, so once you have an ovulatory cycle, you could get pregnant. It can be difficult to tell when your cycles are, though, after having an IUD removed, because it's normal to have a bit of irregular spotting, which it sounds like you may have had. So just track your cycles as best you can. And as for how to increase your chances of trying to conceive, we'll link you to a video that will give you more specifics on that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVBNmL-HvDc Good luck with everything, and if you have any other questions for me, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page, and recommend us to your friends and family too.

How long will it take to get pregnant after removing the IUD Mirena?
Most couples will actually get pregnant within six months of trying. You mentioned that you have had an IUD in the past and got it removed in December. You've had two regular periods since then. Chances are that in the next four months or so you should get pregnant. There are a couple of things you can do to help increase the chances that you will conceive. It's good to start tracking your cycles and have intercourse around the time when you're most fertile. The most fertile time is about five days before ovulation and on the day of ovulation. Research shows that most couples are successful if they have intercourse two days before ovulation and on the day of ovulation. However, most couples don't want to think much about it in the beginning so if you just have intercourse about every two to three days after your period stops then you should have intercourse during your most fertile period. It will also help ensure that the quality of the semen is as good as it can get. If you've tried for six months total, after getting the IUD out, and you haven't gotten pregnant it would be worth talking to your OB/GYN provider and asking them what they think. A woman and a man's health can play a big part in fertility, so they can look at different things and see if there is anything that can be changed or adjusted or decide if further testing is necessary to help you get pregnant. Generally speaking a couple is not considered infertile or is not always given help from the doctor unless they've been trying for 12 months without any contraception. Specifically about the IUD, once it's out, it's out and you can get pregnant. An IUD doesn't affect your body's ability to ovulate. You're going to still ovulate even though you have the IUD and it won't affect your body's ability to ovulate once it's out. If you have intercourse at the right time you could get pregnant. Good luck with it and if you have any other questions for me, which I hope you're asking pregnancy questions in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.

Best Way to Get Pregnant After IUD Removal
What is the best way to get pregnant after IUD removal? It's simple, have sex with the intended father. Very funny doc. It can take months to get pregnant after ending some forms of birth control. You could get pregnant the very next month after having an IUD removed. Though we recommend having at least one full menstrual cycle before trying, just to clear everything out. Clean house before the baby moves in. That makes sense. If you had one that released hormones in addition to scraping the uterine wall, it could take longer to get pregnant. How much longer? After taking out an IUD, about 80% of women get pregnant in the next year. Average is closer to 90%. I'm surprised you think someone could get pregnant so fast after ending a contraceptive method. Unlike the shot or even the birth control pill, the IUD does not affect your hormones. It does not suppress ovulation. It helped suppress extra bleeding. I do not want to go through more menstrual cycles than I have to. Get a dozen ovulation tests. Right after your period ends, use the tests daily. To find out when I ovulate. And start having sex as soon as it may be positive, and keep going until you're well past the ovulation point. We do need rest breaks. Once a day is fine. Every other day will probably do the trick. Then we'll be pregnant. You've got a 10% to 15% chance each month, but this plan will maximize the odds of it. What else could we do to maximize the odds? Start prenatal vitamins now. Make sure you both have stopped smoking, doing drugs, consuming alcohol to excess -- Alcohol? But that’s how a lot of people get pregnant in the first place.

My Mirena IUD was removed 3 weeks ago. Is it normal to have no period?
You mentioned that you had your IUD removed about three weeks ago and still haven't had a period. That really isn't something to be concerned about. Just because of the way IUDs prevent pregnancy it actually affects the lining of your uterus. It thins it so that if you were to get pregnant it decreases the chances of the pregnancy continuing on. With the IUD out it doesn't stop you from ovulating, you could get pregnant right after having it removed. There is a possibility that you're pregnant so if your period doesn't come in another two or three weeks I would recommend taking a test. Sometimes it just takes a little time for your body to get back to normal. Most doctors do recommend that you wait to try to have a baby after your IUD is removed until you've had at least one cycle so your body gets back into the mode of developing a nice, rich uterine lining. If you get pregnant before you're able to have a period again it's usually okay in most circumstances. The best thing you can do is if you get a positive pregnancy test, call your doctor, make your first appointment, tell them your circumstances, and they'll help you determine how far along you and if there are any potential risks to the baby. I hope the very best for you. What are my chances of getting pregnant if I have an implantable form of contraception?
Overall, the chances of getting pregnant while having an implantable form of contraception in place is very, very, very slim. Studies have actually shown that it's more effective than a vasectomy or a tubal. In the most recent study, 942 women signed up, they had implantable contraception in place, and none of them conceived while it was inside their body. 2 conceived within 2 weeks after having it removed. And so, basically, this means that there's lots of pros to it. It's very effective at preventing pregnancy, but your body returns to a fertile state quickly, which is an advantage for lots of women who want to get pregnant quickly after stopping contraception. With all of this said, you have the nexplanon and you've been having some symptoms that are unusual for you. You're wondering if you might be pregnant. And because the chance is so so small, it's unlikely. But there's always a chance, and so it's easy to rule out or confirm pregnancy as the cause by taking a home pregnancy test. I suggest taking one now, and if it's positive, congratulations! If it's negative, continue to watch your symptoms, and if they persist or get worse, call your doctor and let them know about it. They'll be able to determine if they're side effects related to the implant or if they're due to something else that needs to be investigated. Good luck with everything, and if you have more questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.
