Custom Built-in Desk // Home Office Work Space

14:39
We dedicate some time to an often overlooked work space - the home office. My home office build will consist of a large desk and table for 3D printers. The work surfaces will be finished in a dark wood stain utilizing the burnt wood finishing technique. We also utilize Ikea Alex drawer cabinets for storage. We start by using some laminated project panels which were purchased from Lowes. Each panel is 16" wide, 96" long, and 3/4" thick. The panels are pre-laminated pine boards which are also planed and sanded. This outer surface is then attached to an MDF sheet which significantly increases stiffness and strength. The end panels of each desk is made of MDF and pine boards with a decorative X-pattern in the side. These side panels as well as modified 2x4 ledgers support the desk surface and allow it to "float." The desk itself utilizes two small Alex drawer units while the table has some larger, rolling, Alex units underneath. The table was finished with Minwax espresso stain (2 coats) and Polycrylic (3 coats). I will say that I spent some time deliberating on the exact height of my desk based on my personal height. I wanted to design the desk for maximum ergonomic benefit since I will be working from home. I am 5' 11" and based on that information I calculated that my ideal desk height would be ~29". There are online calculators to help you figure out your optimum height if you are going to building your own desk. I really like how these desks turned out and they are proving to be extremely functional. I now have plenty of space for 3D printers and electronics projects which would otherwise not be suited in my garage shop. Whether you have an expansive shop or are restricted to an indoor workspace - there is something in this video for everyone! Utilize the space you have and make it work for you. Executive Desk With Wireless Charging and Hidden Drawer

13:08
When I moved to Colorado, I was lucky to buy a home that featured a very nice office space. It's one of those offices where there's actually no space for a desk against a wall and the only logical place to put one is in the middle of the floor. Fortunately, I also have a power outlet in the floor as well as an ethernet cable. I had a makeshift desk in place that had absolutely no storage so my desk was always a mess. This Executive Desk project features not only storage, but a few technology upgrades and creature comforts like in-drawer power, wireless charging, built-in outlets, and a ventilation fan. AMAZING $500 Office Transformation | Office Renovation with Built-in Desk and Bookshelves

13:05
This video chronicles some of the finer details my process of building shelves and a desk as a built-in system for my father's office. I treated the project like upper kitchen cabinets, which have a standard depth of 12"--that is comprised of 11 1/4" depth of the cabinet, and another 3/4" added on with the face frame to cover the plywood. The desk is a massive sheet of plywood with supports underneath (I did not show them in the build video) so it doesn't sag. I DID NOT make the file cabinets--they were bought off Craigslist and then painted to match. A quick note about how to make your life MUCH easier if you do not have a table saw (like me) to break down the plywood: you can have them do it in the home center, just make sure they don't try to do it quick and carelessly... that's what they did to me, and the cuts were really, really inaccurate. C'est la vie. Another option would be to do what I do in the video and clamp a long, straight board on your measure line, and use it as a guide for your circular saw. Really quick about the build process: it's just pocket holes and glue to hold the main body together. Then, I insert a 1/4" plywood backing cut to the inside dimensions (yes, I know that on "real" cabinets, they fit inside a groove. That is much preferred, but I can't do it so easily with my shop). There are various support pieces and finally a face frame made of poplar. All in all, this took a few weeks, off and on in the shop. And it took about 3-4 hours to install since I had not accounted for the wall outlets. Breakdown of materials costs: 2 File Cabinets off Craigslist: $150 3/4" plywood (x3) = $165 1/4" plywood (x2) = $60 1x4x8" poplar = $15 1x2x8" poplar (x9) = $72 1x2x6" poplar (x2)= $12 2x4x8" = $3 3" drywall screw = $6 (paint supplied by my mom) Grand total = $488 Yes, I know you have to have the tools and Kreg jig and all... but assuming you would not be taking this project on unless you already had the DIY bug (and assuming you have some tools like a drill and circular saw and sander), then, there's no need to count the tools. Also, if you were to consider this a commission project which it technically was, you would not charge the client the price of your tools--just the price of the materials and your time. So, let's say that on this "commission" the "client" paid for the materials and did some labor, and I donated my labor for free as a Christmas present. Thus, yes, the numbers do come out to under $500 in materials costs. I really hope you enjoyed this video and that it was useful. Please do check out my channel where I do many hand-tool and DIY projects. See you around!

How to Make a Desk with Hidden Wireless Charging

I partnered with Minwax and Lincoln Electric to build a desk with hidden wireless charging. I used woodworking and metalworking on this project with a walnut top and a tube steel welded base. Custom BUILT Video Editing Office Desk/Glass top / Walk Through / BLACK & YELLOW studio

04:02
In this video I will show the desk I built for the new computer, I will go over details how I built the desk, give some ideas so others that might want to build their own can do so. This was all done on a budget, using 100% my own ideas & designs. The small office / room has 2 themes, Black and Yellow & Stainless steel and Glass. The top is made entirely of glass. I used black melamine for the main body of the desk & added aluminum accent pieces with stainless steel laminate around the top. I added glass shelves, painted the walls yellow, window blind aluminum, added a new wood floor & carpet. I have most of the build on a memory chip and plan on editing that into a step by step video in the near future. Was built from 12/26/11 - 12/31/11 This was recorded using a sony cx 360v and edited using their pmb software on gamer lap top made by gateway fx studio

Built this Office Desk / Set Up / walk through / BLACK & YELLOW

In this video I will show the desk I built for the computer, I will go over details how I built the desk, give some ideas so others that might want to build their own can do so. I added glass shelf's, painted the walls yellow, window blind aluminum, added a new wood floor & carpet. I have most of the build on a memory chip and plan on editing that into a step by step video in the near future. Was built from 12/26/11 - 12/31/11 Placed on youtube in 2011.... Just made public in 2016.......

How I Made My Sliding Barn Door | Rustic Modern

13:00
I made this barn door to solve a problem in my bedroom. This door is very unique to my space. I made this sliding door because I have a glass door in my bedroom. We were lacking privacy, I installed tint on the window but at night that's no good. I didn't want to install curtains. I like the look of the sliding barn door. So I chose to hide the exterior door with a sliding barn door setup. Problem solved! It is now time to build them a combined dresser so that each kid has 4 big drawers to himself. This dresser will be made to fit in a specific space, so plans won't be available, but you can follow along just the same. Making the outside of the dresser is just like making any other piece of casework. Whether it is cabinet, a bookshelf, or a dresser, it all starts with making a box. I cut the top, bottom, sides, and dividers out of 3/4 inch plywood using my circular saw and my table saw. As I tend to do, I attached all the pieces of the case with pocket screws. I cut the 2 dividers out the plywood as well and also secured them with glue and pocket hole joinery. The dimensions of this outer case were made by measuring the intended space in the room and dividing that total width by 3, the number of columns of drawers. This dresser is going to have A LOT of drawers, 12 to be exact. Each drawer has 4 sides that need to be cut to size and need a rabbet cut on both ends. Josh and I set up an assembly line and made relatively quick work of the drawer construction. We used luan for the drawer bottoms and slid them in place before closing up the sides. Because this dresser has 12 large drawers and because we want a consistent 1/8 inch reveal all around the drawer fronts, we had to use nicer drawer slides. I bought a bunch of the cheaper, undermount slides, but they had a lot of play and I wasn't confident that they would stand up to the abuse from 3 boys. Therefore, I had to spend $20 a pair for the nicer slides at the box store. Josh made a jig to mount the slide on the drawer box, while I used the Kreg Drawer Slide Jig to place the other parts in the case. You have to be sure to measure correctly before placing the slides to get that consistent 1/8 inch gap around the cherry faces. Our local hardwood supplier had some beautiful pieces of cherry that would fit this project perfectly. I used the miter saw to cut the boards to a rough length before using the jointer and planer to make them perfectly straight and uniform. To ensure that the drawer faces were perfectly positioned, we placed them on the drawer bodies inside the case. Once the 1/8 inch gaps were nice and even, we stuck the faces to the bodies with double-sided tape. After that, I drilled some holes through the drawer body, into the back of the face and screwed the two together. This method gave me some registration marks so that each drawer face would line back up with the drawer bodies perfectly after I cut the individual faces. I then cut the 12 drawer faces from the 4 long boards, notched out some hand holds, and finished each cherry face with some Danish oil. Once they were all dry, I used the screw holes to line up and mount the faces to the drawer bodies permanently. Josh andI lugged the dresser components into the room upstairs and I put all the pieces together. You may have seen in the video that I intended on adding some iron pipe. 3d printed legs to the dresser. Once we got the piece in the room, I decided against using the legs because I would have to clean under the dresser and to be honest it didn't need them. The boys loaded up the dresser with all of their clothes and the room transformation was complete! This project fought us all along the way, but I'm so glad we stuck with it. The final result is amazing and I'm so happy to show off the wood grain on those beautiful cherry boards. If you liked this project, check out some more of my work! Miter Saw Station // Woodworking How To

I dealt with it but also ways to move things out of the way to cut an 8' piece of material and come up with creative (and some times dangerous) stop block situations. In the new shop, I have plenty of space, so it was time to make a dedicated place to use the miter saw. I didn't want to go overboard with storage or complexity and wanted it to still be relatively compact. I also had 2 days to build it in between projects, so it had to be simple. The only real requirements for me were that it had to be cheap, easy, fast and it needed a sliding stop block system. I think I hit all of those points while still getting a solid work surface that has PLENTY of space for future improvement in the form of storage. There is space above and below to add storage and the simply dust collection ports help keep the whole area clean. Surprising Secrets Hidden Inside the White House

04:27
See more at www.brilliantnews.com The Emblematic White House. Home and Office to the President of the United States of America. Over the last 226 years it has been renovated, had extensions built and even been burnt down, so it's no surprise that today it's full of hidden features and built-in secrets! #1 Secret Tunnels There is actually a whole network of underground passages, rooms and tunnels buried beneath the White House. Two floors deep. Complete with a Bowling Alley, Dentist's and even a chocolate shop with rumors however spurious of a system of tunnels leading to other important buildings. #2 Secret Alarms You'd expect the president's Oval Office to be packed full of security guards, to protect him in case negotiations go sideways, right? But his elite bodyguards actually have to wait outside. Instead there are various items on the president's desk that if casually moved trigger secret alarms, signalling the guards to come rushing in. #3 Air and Water Supply Sometimes not all citizens are rooting for the same candidate to become president and it wouldn't take much for them to poison the President's water or air supply. That's why the water that enters the grounds passes through it's own special filtration system and is constantly monitored for toxins. Even the air inside the White House is pressurized higher than the air outside thus keeping out any possible chemical or biological attacks. #4 Infrared Sensors Over the years security within the White House grounds has multiplied. Gone are the days when you could wander right on up to the front door, as security has the place fenced off, with restricted areas hidden guards with dogs and even infrared sensors which trigger the alarms. #5 Secret Trapdoor For years it has been thought that there is a secret trapdoor underneath the President's desk. This perhaps stems from JFK's presidency, where an opening panel was added. However there is talk of a secret door panel in a wall in the Oval Office which leads to a hidden staircase descending into the White House's underground tunnel system. #6 Rooftop Surveillance Other than the occasional agents with cameras, the rooftops are filled with instruments and antennas said to be used to monitor the airspace above the grounds and perhaps even anti-drone vigilance. #7 Pool Tunnel The White House has an outdoor poor for the first family to enjoy the summer months. However heaven forbid an avid paparazzi should snap a picture of the Pressi in a speedo, the pool can be accessed through an underground tunnel. Problem solved. #8 Pressure Pads Apart from hidden sensors, the Oval Office also has pressure pads built into the floor so even though the agents stay outside, they know where the President is at all times, in case they have to burst in at any given time. #9 Wine Cellar The size of the first family's wine cellar is kept very hush hush, however judging by the underground bowling alley and chocolate shop, one can only imagine a winery of presidential proportions. But according to one source the wine cellar is only the size of a small closet. #10 No Secrets Having the most dangerous job in America requires a high level of surveillance. Dozens of agents knowing the locations and activities of the First Family members at all times. This becomes awkward when the President or code name: Renegade and his wife: Renaissance want to get intimate. Or according to inside agents code: When Renegade and Renaissance are Discussing the Bosnian Problem. Which of these White House Secrets surprised you the most? Comment Below!

100% Pallet Wood Woodworking Workbenches

05:24
Get the plans for the workbench & vise that I added later! http://bit.ly/JackmanWorkbenchPlans ➤ Please share and subscribe? http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=jackmancarpentry Details! ▼ These workbenches were made 100% from pallet wood. The tops are 36" x 40" x 2" thick, all laminated from pallet slats. The main frame is fabricated from 3.5" x 2.5" pallet timbers and 1.5" thick pallet slats, all from a super heavy duty pallet. The casters are locking 4" casters. Everything is fastened from the underside, or the inside of the frame, leaving zero visible fasteners. The top includes poplar, pine, white oak, red oak, maple, and cherry! I haven't yet decided on a finish for the workbench, but right now I think I'm going to put a really thin coat of epoxy to seal and protect the top. Many more modifications will be made to this in the future, including a bench vice, storage underneath, and I'm sure many other things. I have a feeling these are just going to be a canvas. Fart. How to Make an Indoor Climbing Wall

With the renovation of the boys' bedroom almost completed, I thought it was a perfect time to rebuild that fun rock wall in the their room.  First, here is a safety disclaimer...I built this wall for my kids in a manner that I am completely confident in. I don't know your room layout and I don't know your kids abilities. If you want to build a wall yourself, awesome! But you are assuming all responsibility and risk in doing so (that said, it is pretty awesome and you should go make one). I began this project by measuring out the space in the room and making a digital copy of it (Its been very helpful for me lately), being sure to accurately measure the ceiling pitch. I then mapped out the placement of some drop-in, 2x4 walls that would support the 3/4 inch plywood faces. I cut and nailed the wall pieces together and screwed them to the existing room studs with some massive lag screws. I translated the ceiling pitch to the angled wall section and used a bird's mouth cut at the end of the 2x4 so that those joists would sit on the header of the wall below it. Once the walls were framed in place, I broke down the sheets of 3/4 inch plywood to cover each section. I made sure to mark out the location of the new wall studs on the plywood so that I could secure them together, but it also helped me identify where to NOT place the holes for the climbing holds. On the plywood, I marked out a geometric grid that would become the locations for a bunch of T-nuts. These pronged nuts will receive the bolts that attach the climbing holds to the wall. The grid allows you to change up the arrangement later if you wanted. After drilling the grid holes and hammering in the T-nuts, we mounted each plywood face to the framed-in walls. Accurately measuring the space was crucial when putting up the faces, each piece fit together in an angular puzzle that turned out amazing. All that was left to do was to place the climbing holds and bolt them to the T-nuts. This was pretty erratic, but it allowed for different skill levels in different areas. I even got to use the hand hold that I made using a silicone mold. After I throughly tested out the wall, I let my kids go nuts. They really love this new awesome addition to their room and I'm really happy they have an area to be wild and crazy kids. If you liked this project, check out more of my work using the links above!

Building the Man Cave. Update - This has now turned into a She Shed as my wife has acquired this and moved in. This is a video record of my Garden office / Shed project. Please find an update of what this looks like now. https://youtu.be/XXTP_teQAWE This is a video of the plans and budget https://youtu.be/gbUlZsM9klg I am not qualified or do this for a job, I just enjoy making things and this seemed like a good challenge. I started it in March 2015 and finally completed it 9 months later in December 2015. I build this in my spare time. I managed to get a great deal of the materials second hand or recycled. Other items I had to buy new, but shopped around on line for the best price. The timber base was from A1 Lofts who did a great job of our loft conversion a couple of years ago. I emailed them and they emailed out to all their contractors to see if they had any spare timber. I met with Dan from A1 lofts in Harlow and filled up a van load of timber. http://www.a1pms.co.uk/ The 4 x 2s were from a recycling timber yard in Peckham. The other items such as the windows and doors and the front maple cladding were second hand from ebay. I had to travel to collect items from all over Surrey, Kent, Hampshire and Buckinghamshire. Other items I had to buy new, but shopped around on line for the best price. I did all the work myself apart from the final fix and certification of the electrics. The electrician was Billy Keppel from Keps Electrical. I have written and recorded and played the instruments to the music on this video.
