CHICAGO NAVY PIER TOUR | Nepali BrewBoy Adventures
Navy Pier, Chicago, IL Of the many and varied attractions in Chicago, its most-visited is still the Navy Pier. Originally Municipal Pier #2, it was designed and built to serve as a cargo facility, passenger dock, and public gathering place. Jutting out onto Lake Michigan, the pier provided a cooler, breezier place than the city for crowds to attend entertainments during the stuffy summers, and had its own tram service out to the edge for those who didn’t wish to walk. When it opened to the public in 1916, it was the largest pier in the world. During the 1910s, automobiles and trucks were beginning to take over some of the weight of transportation from ships, which delivered both freight and passengers to Chicago’s port. Thus its primary function became as an entertainment site, and steamboat traffic decreased. The pier was completed just in time for use in WWI, when military personnel and Red Cross workers took up residence during 1917-1918. After the war, the roaring twenties ushered in a streetcar line, theatre, auditorium, dance hall, radio station, dining pavilions, and the ‘Pageant of Progress’ in 1922. In 1927, in honor of WWI veterans who had served there, it officially became Navy Pier. The pier saw many other notable moments in history, including the 1933 World’s Fair Century of Progress Exposition, Great Depression New Deal agencies, and conversion to a naval training center for the U.S. military during WWII. Following WWII, it became a college campus primarily serving returning veterans, until the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976 returned it to public use. Music and art festivals shared the pier with exhibition halls, and in 1989, a major overhaul brought new life to the pier. Currently, the pier is home to a variety of entertainments and attractions, including its own Ferris wheel, IMAX theatre, concert stage, ballroom, public art installations, miniature golf course, funhouse maze, beer garden, and Pier Park, a small amusement park set on the upper deck beside the Crystal Gardens. Cultural attractions include the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Chicago Children’s Museum, and Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows. Sightseeing, architecture, and dinner cruises launch from the pier, and during the summer, there are even fireworks. There is, in short, something for everyone. Seasonal festivals range from Tall Ships Chicago, the Inuit Show of Folk & Outsider Art, and Chicago Toy & Game Fair, to the Chicago Flower & Garden Show, Winter WonderFest, and Snow Days Chicago. I was in town for the latter two, which were more than enough to keep me busy during my visit. Winter WonderFest is an indoor winter festival, where you can ice skate, toboggan, ride a holiday train or carousel, climb a snowy mountain wall, or stand inside a snow globe…all in the warm comfort of the indoors. Snow Days Chicago requires you to get a little chillier, but you can snowboard, visit with penguins from nearby Shedd Aquarium, or attend the most spectacular attraction, the snow sculpting competition. Chicago is fun to visit anytime, but there’s something especially enchanting about Navy Pier in December. There are holiday lights everywhere, and the pier is jam-packed with restaurants and shops. It’s a perfect place to spend a day relaxing and enjoying the season. Don’t worry too much about making a plan—you’ll find plenty to see and do just wandering around the pier. I will make a plug for the stained glass museum, which was a strange, wonderful glimpse into the old mansions of Chicago, through the art of Louis Comfort Tiffany and other masters. Driving Downtown - The Navy Pier - Chicago Illinois
Cost: $14 for parking. Navy Pier is a 3,300-foot-long (1,010 m) pier on the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan. It is located in the Streeterville neighborhood of the Near North Side community area. The pier was built in 1916 at a cost of $4.5 million. It was a part of the Plan of Chicago developed by architect and city planner Daniel Burnham and his associates. As Municipal Pier #2 (Municipal Pier #1 was never built), Navy Pier was planned and built to serve as a mixed-purpose piece of public infrastructure. Its primary purpose was as a cargo facility for lake freighters, and warehouses were built up and down the Pier. However, the Pier was also designed to provide docking space for passenger excursion steamers, and in the pre–air conditioning era parts of the Pier, especially its outermost tip, were designed to serve as cool places for public gathering and entertainment. The Pier even had its own tram. Today, the pier is one of the most visited attractions in the entire Midwestern United States and is Chicago's number one tourist attraction.[2] Fourth use: public gathering place Centerpiece attractions include a Ferris wheel,[8] an IMAX theater, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Amazing Chicago's Funhouse Maze, the Chicago Children's Museum, the Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows, and at the entrance to Navy Pier is a statue of Oak Park comedian Bob Newhart, sponsored by the TV Land network.[9] The Pier now features a large front lawn showcasing numerous larger-than-life public art sculptures and an interactive animated fountain created by WET (of Fountains of Bellagio fame). The Pier continues to be used as an embarkation point for tour and excursion boats and is a popular place to watch lakefront events, including the annual Air and Water airshow and the parade of lighted and decorated boats during Chicago's Venetian Night festival. The Pier and its grounds encompass more than 50 acres (200,000 m2) of parks, gardens, shops, restaurants and other shore entertainment. Navy Pier contains 170,000 total square feet of exhibition space, 50,000 square feet (5,000 m2) of reception space and 48,000 square feet (4,500 m2) of meeting room space. Attractions Navy Pier attractions include sightseeing tours from companies such as Seadog Ventures, Shoreline Sightseeing cruises and Water Taxi service, and the Tall Ship Windy. There are also dinner cruises by Entertainment Cruises, on their ships the Spirit of Chicago, The Odyssey II, and the Mystic Blue. The Pier has fireworks on Wednesday and Saturday nights during the summer and Saturday nights during the fall.[9] The popular Strictly Sail boat show and Chicago Flower and Garden Show are held at the Pier, as are many other fairs and expositions throughout the year. There are also seasonal festivals for Halloween and Christmas. The Chicago Children's Museum is a part of Navy Pier, with many different exhibits and activities for both children and adults to enjoy while visiting the museum.[9][10] The Pier also has an IMAX theater and the Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows, many of which were salvaged from Chicago mansions. An anchor from the naval vessel USS Chicago (CA-136/CG-11) is on display at the far end of the Pier[11] Pier Park Pier Park is a landscaped area outdoors on the upper deck, between the Crystal Gardens and the Pepsi Skyline Stage.[8] Attractions include the 150-foot (45.7 m) tall Navy Pier Ferris Wheel, which was manufactured by Vekoma[12] and opened on July 1, 1995.[13] It operates year-round, weather permitting, and has 40 gondolas, each seating up to 6 passengers. Its 40 spokes, spanning a diameter of 140 feet (42.7 m), are illuminated in the evenings.[8] The world record for the longest Ferris wheel ride was set by Clinton Shepherd, the park operations manager, who spent 48 hours, 8 minutes and 25 seconds riding the Pier's wheel over the weekend of May 18–19, 2013.[14] Other rides include a musical carousel, the Light Tower Ride, and Wave Swinger, an old-fashioned swinging thrill ride almost 40 feet (12 m) high.[8] Other Pier Park amusements include an 18-hole miniature golf course, and token-operated remote-control boats.[8] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navy_Pier http://navypier.com/ http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g35805-d142948-Reviews-Navy_Pier-Chicago_Illinois.html

Chicago Day 2 | Willis Tower, United Center Atrium, River Cruise, Navy Pier | Travelvlog and tips
Second day at Chicago! (1st full day) Got to Willis Tower Sky Deck before it opened at 9AM - did not need fast pass, the wait was 15 minutes the most - you have to wait in line to enter the glass box! So definitely plan ahead and you probably need to wait in multiple lines ( = another reason to be super early) - we were done by 10AM United Center - Michael Jordan Statue is moved to the Atrium (inside the united center)! The atrium is open from 10AM to 6PM - when we got there around 10:30 AM there was NO ONE. you don't have to pay, just go in there and have a moment with MJ ;) - Team store is also open -- photobooth is super fun!! you can send the pictures/videos to yourself Portillo's Hot Dog - famous chicago food. Locals don't recommend their hot dogs but other stuff on the menu. Definitely popular, but i'd say the food isn't that great (i don't like meat in general so...) River Cruise (via first lady Chicago Architecture Foundation) - $47 single ticket - departs every half an hour - popular time slots get filled up quickly, so RSVP - if you are into architecture, definitely take the 90 min cruise!! It's very informative...and they also sell alcohol... also, don't forget to take picture of the magnificient mile, wrigley building, and the beautiful skyscrappers! Navy Pier - cannot really compare to santa monica pier, of course - all the food and shops are in the basement floor, on the pier, but many under construction. - there's also the Children's Museum, so if you want to avoid children everywhere...don't come! Not really worth it.

Merry-Go-Round Navy Pier: Chicago Children's Museum, Chicago, Illinois
This VDO is recorded at Navy Pier Chicago Children's Museum. The reason this VDO is filmed and uploaded on my channel is because this reminded me of my childhood when my mother took me and my two younger sisters to children's play ground (back in my home country: LAOS), and I almost forget that wonderful moment of life that we all had. I watched families and children had a great time on marry go round, children were so excited while parents were whole watch out their small little children happiness of riding the animals. Time is flying, sometimes we even forget small happiness that we used to have and how far our lives brought us here today. I believe it is never too late to find happiness, even from small little basic things in life, we can make and have one. Good luck :)

Streets of Chicago
The City of Chicago is the third-most populous city in the United States and the most populous city in both the state of Illinois and the Midwestern United States. In terms of wealth and economy, Chicago is considered one of the most important business centers in the world. Chicago was incorporated as a city in 1837, near a portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed, and grew rapidly in the mid-nineteenth century. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which razed several square miles and left more than 100,000 homeless, the city made a concerted effort to rebuild on the damage. The construction boom accelerated population growth throughout the following decades, leading Chicago to become among the five largest cities in the world by 1900. During this period Chicago is noted for its contribution to urban planning and zoning standards, new constructions styles (including the Chicago School of architecture), the embracement of the City Beautiful Movement, and the eventual creation of the steel-framed skyscraper. Positioned along Lake Michigan, the city is an international hub for finance, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications, and transportation: O'Hare International Airport is the second-busiest airport in the world when measured by aircraft traffic; the region also has the largest number of U.S. highways and rail road freight. Landmarks in the city include Millennium Park, Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mile, Art Institute of Chicago, Museum Campus, the Willis (Sears) Tower, Museum of Science and Industry, and Lincoln Park Zoo. Chicago's culture includes the visual arts, novels, film, theater, especially improvisational comedy, and music, particularly jazz, blues, soul, hip hop, gospel and house music. There are many colleges and universities in the Chicago area; among these, Northwestern University, University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Chicago are classified as "highest research" doctoral universities. Additionally, Chicago has professional sports teams in each of the major professional leagues. The city has many nicknames, the best-known being the Windy City.

Morning Walk - Lake Michigan & Grant Park / Millennium Park – Chicago Illinois
Grant Park is a large urban park (319 acres or 1.29 km²) in the Loop community area of Chicago. Located in Chicago's central business district, the park's most notable features are Millennium Park, Buckingham Fountain, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum Campus. Originally known as Lake Park, and dating from the city's founding, it was renamed in 1901 to honor Ulysses S. Grant. The park's area has been expanded several times through land reclamation, and was the focus of several disputes in the late 1800s and early 1900s over open space use. It is bordered on the north by Randolph Street, on the south by Roosevelt Road and McFetridge Drive, on the west by Michigan Avenue and on the east by Lake Michigan. The park contains performance venues, gardens, art work, sporting, and harbor facilities. It hosts public gatherings, and several large annual events. The park is often called "Chicago's front yard". It is governed by the Chicago Park District. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grant_Park_(Chicago) Millennium Park is a public park located in the Loop community area of Chicago in Illinois, US, and originally intended to celebrate the millennium. It is a prominent civic center near the city's Lake Michigan shoreline that covers a 24.5-acre (99,000 m2) section of northwestern Grant Park. The area was previously occupied by parkland, Illinois Central rail yards, and parking lots.[1] The park, which is bounded by Michigan Avenue, Randolph Street, Columbus Drive and East Monroe Drive, features a variety of public art. As of 2009, Millennium Park trailed only Navy Pier as a Chicago tourist attraction.[2] Planning of the park began in October 1997. Construction began in October 1998, and Millennium Park was opened in a ceremony on July 16, 2004, four years behind schedule. The three-day opening celebrations were attended by some 300,000 people and included an inaugural concert by the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus. The park has received awards for its accessibility and green design.[3] Millennium Park has free admission,[4] and features the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Cloud Gate, the Crown Fountain, the Lurie Garden, and various other attractions. The park is connected by the BP Pedestrian Bridge and the Nichols Bridgeway to other parts of Grant Park. Because the park sits atop a parking garage and the commuter rail Millennium Station, it is considered the world's largest rooftop garden. Some observers consider Millennium Park to be the city's most important project since the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893.[4][5] It far exceeded its originally proposed budget of $150 million. The final cost of $475 million was borne by Chicago taxpayers and private donors. The city paid $270 million; private donors paid the rest,[6] and assumed roughly half of the financial responsibility for the cost overruns.[7] The construction delays and cost overruns were attributed to poor planning, many design changes, and cronyism. Many critics have praised the completed park. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennium_Park Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America and the only one located entirely within the United States. The other four Great Lakes are shared by the U.S. and Canada. It is the second-largest of the Great Lakes by volume[1] and the third-largest by surface area, after Lake Superior and Lake Huron (and is slightly smaller than the U.S. state of West Virginia). To the east, its basin is conjoined with that of Lake Huron through the wide Straits of Mackinac, giving it the same surface elevation as its easterly counterpart; the two are technically a single lake.[4] Lake Michigan is shared, from west to east, by the U.S. states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. The word "Michigan" originally referred to the lake itself, and is believed to come from the Ojibwa word mishigami meaning "great water".[5] Lake Michigan is also the only one of the five Great Lakes not to share a shoreline with the Canadian province of Ontario, the only province in Canada that borders the Great Lakes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Michigan

EXPO Chicago Interior Environment
Enhancing the art-viewing experience, Studio Gang's design for EXPO Chicago's interior environment brings clarity, efficiency, comfort, and energy to the annual art fair, held in Festival Hall at Navy Pier. The floor plan, patterned after the city's gridded streets and lined with exhibition spaces, enables visitors to view every gallery in sequence without losing their way. A diagonal "avenue" gives visitors the option to see selected work and installations along a single path. Plazas and amenities, including a chef's kitchen, dining space, and lounges, punctuate the street grid, offering a range of opportunities to relax, eat, or drink without needing to leave the show. Mirrored Mylar cones suspended above the galleries reflect the art and activity below while also creating individual, enclosed atmospheres where patrons can rest and socialize. These colossal installations also serve to orient visitors and add optical flair to the space.

Tours in Chicago - Illinois
World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Chicago - Illinois - USA Travel guide http://bit.ly/1gyob2p Tours in Chicago - Illinois Chicago tours and excursions Chicago tours ================ Boat tours One of the best ways to appreciate the beauty of the city as well as learn about it is from the water. Such excursions operate from May to early November, but it is best to check with the individual sightseeing company for schedules and costs. Chicago Line Cruises runs both history and architectural boat trips. Boats departing from Navy Pier run the gamut from schooners to yachts and those that include meals and cocktails. Windy I or Windy II set sail around Lake Michigan. Or you can paddle a kayak down the Chicago River with Wateriders and explore history, architecture or gangster history. Bus tours There are plenty of road-based options for touring the city. Gray Line Tours runs a variety of city excursions including 'North' and 'South' side city tours, which cover all the major sights in those parts of the city. Buses leave from 55 East Monroe Street. The Chicago Double Decker Co., based at the Willis Tower, offers double-decker service, using London-style double-decker buses to tour 21km (13 miles) of Chicago's main sights. A hop-on hop-off service (explore a site and catch another bus to resume the tour) stops at a number of points, including Navy Pier, Willis Tower, the Art Institute and Field Museum. Chicago Greeters tours Considered a 'themed visit' rather than a tour, Chicago Greeters will escort small groups (up to six) to attractions, neighbourhoods, explore insider's favourite haunts, visit specific points of interest, or even take them shopping. Greeters are residents who know and love the city. Advance reservations are necessary for this free service of the Chicago Office of Tourism. Gangster and ghost tours The Untouchables Gangster Tour takes a step back to the days of prohibition. It traces the paths of some of the city's most infamous 1920s and 1930s residents, like Al Capone and John Dillinger. Wisecracking guides relate gangster lore on the way to famous hoodlum haunts like Little Italy and the St Valentine's Massacre. All tours depart from 600 North Clark Street, and reservations are necessary. Chicago Hauntings visits paranormal and supernatural locations around the city. A two-hour 45-minute bus ride explores such haunts as the Biograph Theater, Graceland Cemetery, and the site of the Fort Dearborn massacre. Reservations are necessary. Walking tours Chicago is known for its architecture and there is no better way to learn about the city's structural designs than by taking one of the many tours that the Chicago Architectural Foundation offers. Tours, which are on foot, by bus and on the water, include historic and modern skyscrapers as well as Frank Lloyd Wright homes. Except for the water tours, most begin at 224 South Michigan Avenue. Excursions from Chicago ====================== Cantigny The 202-hectare (500-acre) estate of legendary Chicago Tribune editor and publisher from 1925-1955, Colonel Robert R McCormick, is one of the far west suburbs' key attractions. Originally built in 1899 by McCormick's grandfather and founder of the Chicago Tribune, Joseph Medill, the estate has 16 hectares (40 acres) of stately gardens and two museums. McCormick served in the US Army's First Division and The First Division Museum is devoted to the history of this infantry division from 1917 to Desert Storm. On the lawn are tanks from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The Robert R McCormick Museum is the colonel's 35-room, plantation-style mansion complete with original furniture, antiques and artwork. Milwaukee No longer merely the land of beer and brats, Milwaukee is taking great pains to reinvent itself. It is worth the trip up there just to have a look at the stunning winged (or as some think of it, whale-fluked shaped) white Quadracci Pavilion of the Milwaukee Art Museum. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, it has a moveable roof that opens and closes twice a day. When open, it spans over 66m (217ft). Milwaukee has many other interesting attractions to explore: museums, a very cool zoo, Potawatomi Bingo Casino, brewery tours and funky neighbourhoods. For motorcycle buffs, there is the House of Harley. You can learn all about the illustrious bike, plan a trip and talk with other bike enthusiasts. ==================================== Chicago Videos, Chicago Travel guide, Chicago Tourism, Chicago Vacation, United States of America, Illinois,Chicago Introduction, Chicago Tours, Chicago Attractions, Chicago Hotels,Chicago Restaurants, Chicago Shopping, Chicago Transport, Chicago Museums, Chicago Nightlife, Chicago Hotels, Illinois Travel guide, Illinois Tourism, Illinois Vacation, USA Travel guide, USA Tourism === Chicago - Illinois - USA Travel guide, Tourism, Vacation, Attractions

Navy Pier has been a Chicago icon and popular destination throughout much of its history. It offers a diverse and eclectic experience and is positioned in one of the most unique settings in the world. As Navy Pier approaches its centennial in 2016, now is the time to revisit its legacy and reimagine its potential through a contemporary lens. Navy Pier has enjoyed both popular and commercial success. It already has much of what is necessary to become a world-class public place, but for the Pier to truly achieve this status it must embrace and implement a new vision. The search for a Pierscape design team is an important part of a larger Navy Pier initiative entitled The Centennial Vision whose goal is to make Navy Pier a truly iconic and world-class destination.
