Husson Strikeout Cancer
Promotional Video by J.T. Whitten and Stephan Dance When and where is the event? Saturday April 19th at 1pm vs. New England College O'Keefe Softball Field -- Husson University Campus Strikeouts will be recorded through the first game only. What is the StrikeOut Cancer program? The StrikeOut Cancer program is an initiative of the American Cancer Society and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association to help fight cancer by leveraging the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of fastpitch softball coaches nationwide. Coaches across the country work to increase cancer education and promote healthy living through awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs. StrikeOut Cancer provides critical mission outreach, while raising funds in support of the Society's lifesaving efforts to eliminate cancer as a life threatening disease. Why participate in the StrikeOut Cancer program? Together, NFCA member coaches and the American Cancer Society can help provide hope to all people facing cancer by furthering the fight against this disease. As community role models, coaches are able to instill life-changing behaviors through education programs and community events. Additionally, coaches help raise awareness about the American Cancer Society's programs and services available to cancer patients and their families, while raising funds to support the Society's lifesaving efforts to eliminate the disease. How do contributions to StrikeOut Cancer support the fight against cancer? Participating in StrikeOut Cancer goes a long way to help eliminate cancer and improve the quality of life for all people touched by the disease. Contributions raised through the program help the American Cancer Society fund groundbreaking cancer research, provide up-to-date cancer information and education, advocate for public health policies that benefit the community, and provide services that improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Thanks to the support of people like you, the Society helps all people with cancer, empowers people to fight back against the disease, and saves lives. What if I need more information? #WOW Woman Of the Week - Women's Advocate & Cancer Survivor, Hazel Brown
The Morning Show with Michelle Borel featuring Former Coordinator of the Network of NGOs of Trinidad and Tobago for the Advancement of Women, Cancer Survivor and Advocate, Hazel Brown. Hazel began her advocacy journey as a fearless consumer rights advocate. Because of her conviction that citizens should participate in the decisions that affect their lives, Brown got active in a number of social action groups, including the Housewives Association of Trinidad and Tobago (HATT). HATT was established in 1971 to generate public interest and awareness on the power of consumer action through providing reliable consumer information, investigating consumer complaints, and ensuring consumer protection by educating consumers about their rights. One such achievement was the campaign to improve the working conditions of domestic workers, which led to the introduction of minimum wages and conditions for those workers. The HATT also engaged in evidence gathering and research activities, including a survey on the weight and cost of locally manufactured detergents in 1971, and a 1973 report on laboratory tests of milk, milk products and tomato ketchup. This initiative moved the government to establish the Bureau of Standards. Two decades later Brown was part of the Cabinet appointed Committee that drafted the eventually adopted National Consumer Policy, followed by the establishment of a Ministry of Consumer Affairs. In the same year that gave birth to HATT, Hazel's ambitions led to the creation of the Telephone Users Group, formed to generate public interest, collate information and represent consumers at the telephone rate hearings of 1971. Her actions resulted in changes being made to the electricity and water rate structures and fair rate increases. When the breast-feeding movement of the 70s started taking off and the WHO and UNICEF convened an international meeting on infant and young child feeding in 1979, Hazel seized the opportunity to join what became a global movement. The conference called for an end to the use of promotional advertising, distribution of free samples, and the use of health care systems as a promotional channel for baby foods, and established a network for organizations working on the issue. The International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) was formed, with Hazel acting as Caribbean Coordinator for four years. As a result of this and other important work on breast-feeding done locally, Trinidad and Tobago became the first country to adopt the WHO Code on Breast milk substitutes. As founding member of the Network of NGOs of T&T for the Advancement of Women in 1985, she and a number of like-minded women set out to establish a comprehensive national umbrella organization to present the position of women in Trinidad and Tobago at the End of the Decade Conference in Nairobi. Hazel conceptualized and organized the Network School Book Exchange project, which allowed parents to obtain school books at a reduced cost. As a member of the Prices Commission, her efforts were also instrumental to getting the mark-up on school books reduced in 1987. Since 1992, Hazel has been involved in the experimentation and promotion of solar oven cooking in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, as a practical and convenient way for households to use a safe, renewable energy source to feed themselves that is both affordable and easily accessible. The project, which features how to build and use solar box cookers, was presented as a success story at the 1994 SIDS Conferences in Barbados, and endorsed by BPTT to develop a model solar cooker for commercial production and job creation locally. In 1994 she was appointed Coordinator for the Caribbean Region Preparatory Process for the World Summit on Social Development. This project was a milestone in successfully promoting NGO representation as part of the priorities for action on the Core Issues and Hazel was given the responsibility for selecting a team who ensured that there was adequate, responsible, and informed Caribbean NGO representation and participation at the global level. She was also responsible for Trinidad and Tobago NGO's participation in the 1995 Beijing UN Women's Conference, which remains an historic event in women's development history. Her work in the Caribbean region was honoured by the United Nations in 2000 through the UN Caribbean Women award. This is, however, but one of the many she has received over the past three decades, including the National Award for the Development of Women in 2011. Outside of the Network, Hazel has contributed to and initiated a number of community oriented projects. As a long-standing member of the Diamond vale community, she has served as Board member and Chair of Diego Martin Consumer Co-operative—the only surviving consumer cooperative of those started in the seventies. Hazel is a graduate of the Cipriani Labour College.

Professional Photographers Wanted for National Family Portrait Month.
Professional Portrait Photographers are Wanted for National Family Portrait Month. 50 Years As a Professional Photographer For the past two years I have been a photography business coach and consultant, and I talk to a variety of different people in the photography industry every day, especially professional wedding/portrait photographers. Some photographers are frustrated. They are frustrated as the dirt cheap photographers are downgrading the value within the profession. I understand and empathise with their concerns. The time has long gone when well-exposed, well composed, and creative photography was only available from a professional photographer. These days when mobile phones and inexpensive compact cameras have auto exposure, auto focus, face recognition, image stabilisation and a whole bunch of apps to make them look cleaner or retro etc, makes it easy for almost anyone to create a good image Images are now generally viewed not as prints on paper, or in a frame, but on social networking sites like Facebook, and on computers, notebooks and mobile phones. Because of this, less people expect to pay very much for professional images. Let’s start getting some momentum to bring back the idea of having a quality family portrait taken. That’s the first step. The Question Is, How Do We Do That? I’ve put together a promotion that I am personally confident will give the industry a kick start. In conjunction with the NATIONAL BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION I am initiating an annual event called NATIONAL FAMILY PORTRAIT MONTH www.familyportraitmonth.com.au What is The Main Purpose of National Family Portrait Month? To raise $20,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. To create awareness for early detection of Breast Cancer. To lift the profile of the full time Professional Photographer. To widen the gap between the full time professional and the amateur. To provide inspiration and motivation for families to have their photograph taken. To lift the awareness of the importance of having family portraits on the wall. To unite the whole photography industry to help build a stronger industry. To keep family history alive in printed form. We all know that lives can change in a heartbeat. So many families have been effected by breast cancer, including our National Ambassador AIPP Master Photographer Shireen Hammond. I feel that the National Family Portrait Month will motivate lots of families around Australia to get in front of a professional photographer’s camera. For a $65 participation fee to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, families will be able to have a photography session with one of Australia’s top portrait photographers. Once the photographs are taken then of course the family will be invited to view the images with the opportunity of purchasing photographs. So how do I want your support? I am looking for companies who want to show off their support by including their company logo on the bottom of the home page on the National Family Portrait Month website, www.familyportraitmonth.com.au and promoting the event. If you are a full time Professional Photographer and want to know more, please contact me. Call me on 0418509228 or email info@aswpp.com.au Regards Bernie Griffiths www.berniegriffiths.com. Today we’ll talk about what is epigenetics, why it matters, and how we can change the way our genes work, or express themselves during our lifetime. We’ll look at how our genes are supposed to work, why they’re a bit off-track today, and what we can do help our genes work with us, rather than against us. That plus we’ll look at how to design the brain we want, the medical power of prayer, why there’s more than three wishes in a genie’s lamp, and how to give birth, to healthy, happy rats. Sports Thoughts#15: Science Is Not An Exact Science
I've been involved in national sports science, sports medicine and innovations committees and advisory groups for more than 25 years - and across several sports. I believe sports science has contributed significantly to our knowledge and understanding of sport - particularly high performance sport. However, I also believe the progress and development of the sports science industry has stagnated. Firstly, sports science is still for the most part taught at Universities and other Institutions as a single discipline specialization. I've been writing about the stupidity of this for almost 30 years and it's hard to believe that it's still being taught this way around the world. NOTHING exists in isolation in sport. Reductionism - (look it up) - has very little to do with sport at any level. Sports science is NOT an exact science. If you're researching and looking for a cure for cancer - science IS an exact science and it's essential to look for high levels of confidence in the research, i.e. confidence limits of .01 for example. But we're not curing cancer here. We're helping athletes to run a little faster, swim a little quicker, row a little more powerfully and it's not an exact science. Coaches will work on confidence limits of 0.5! That is - if they feel something might help their athletes get better - they'll try it. The biggest mistake sports scientists make is trying to prove they are right because they've got the "evidence" from peer reviewed journals behind them. For the most part - coaches do not care about evidence in peer reviewed journals. Evidence based Practice is no match for Practice based Evidence in the eyes of most coaches. To be effective - sports scientists need to be flexible, adaptable, innovative, insightful and not be afraid of saying "I don't know". Secondly, the vast majority of government funded Sports Institutes around the world continue to use the "silo" or "faculty" model of sports science operation and delivery. It's dumb. It's inefficient. It's costly. And it's a 50 year old model based on outdated thinking and conservative practices inherited from the tertiary education sector. Thirdly, sports science is just one tool - just one small piece of the performance puzzle. Sports scientists do not have all the answers. Their role is to work as part of an integrated, multi-disciplinary problem solving, performance enhancement team with coaches and athletes and with a single focus - to help the athletes get better. There is an incredible opportunity out there for sports scientists to break the lunacy of the current way sports science is researched, studied and delivered. Some organizations are "playing" with the concept of sports science as a multi-disciplinary, "team" focused performance enhancement process and even changing the name of their "silos" to incorporate the word "performance" - i.e. "performance" physiology, "performance" psychology" etc. This is a great start. However, calling a piece of chocolate cake "a piece of vanilla cake" - doesn't change the way the chocolate cake looks, feels, smells or tastes. Simply changing the name of your "silo" or "department" doesn't change a thing unless it incorporates a genuine, authentic commitment to changing the way the sports science professionals think, talk, communicate, integrate, collaborate and act. If you're a young sports scientist - accept the challenge to lead the change the sports science industry desperately deserves. It's time to revolutionize sports science!!! ====== Wayne Goldsmith Coaching http://wgcoaching.com Waynes coaching, thinking and teaching have influenced some of the world’s leading athletes, coaches and teams . Jim Kean Talks Biomarkers, Building a Spectator Sport
In this interview Dr. Rhonda Patrick speaks with Jim Kean, CEO of National Pro Grid League (NPGL) and founder of WellnessFX. They discuss the quantified self movement and the importance of measuring biomarkers more than once. The talk about the gut's role in cholesterol and serotonin in the gut versus in the brain. They also talk about the role of exercise in preventing neuroinflammation and the effects of overtraining on sex hormones. Jim talks a bit about the psychology of constructing a new, non-gender segregated, team spectator sport and bringing it to market, the factors that separate a professional spectator sport from any other form of entertainment: including patriotism, justice, and vicariousness, the mathematical nature of the sport and the floor coach's role in monitoring athletes before they start "redlining," how NPGL teams may find new ways to tune their gameplay and find an edge on the competition in the future by stepping up the use of more advanced athlete-level analytics. Jim Stray-Gundersen - Blood Flow Restriction Training: Anti-aging medicine for the busy baby boomer
This lecture is part of the IHMC Evening Lecture series. https://www.ihmc.us/life/evening_lectures/ Enter code IHMC for a 15% discount at https://www.gobstrong.com/ref/30/ Blood Flow Restriction Training has attracted an increasing amount of attention in the last 5-10 years in the US. However, work has focused on rehabilitation from musculo-skeletal injuries and improvement in strength and fitness for Olympic and Professional athletes. We recognize that regular exercise and good nutritional practices are the “medicines” for health and fitness. We can take the lessons from Olympians and incorporate them into our busy lives. We know that regular exercise mitigates the effects of many chronic diseases, but to do so, requires “doses” of exercise that many find impossible to do on a regular basis. Alas, there are a million reasons why we don’t incorporate regular exercise into our busy lives. BFR Training is well suited to providing “doable”, safe and effective, robust exercise in a short period of time (15 to 20 minutes), anywhere, anytime for all age groups. Regular BFR Training is the solution for many of the chronic health problems of the nation. Some call it “anti-aging” medicine. Dr. Jim Stray-Gundersen has helped pioneer the use of blood flow restriction training in the US and Europe. Board Certified in General Surgery, Jim’s background is both academic and athletic. His “day job” has been as research faculty in Cardiology and Orthopedics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He has also worked for 35+ years in Olympic and Professional Sports, focusing on winter and summer endurance sports including a 30 year relationship with Alberto Salazar, (coach and director of the NIKE Oregon Project) and as physician, physiologist and nutritionist for United States, Norwegian, German and Canadian National teams in the sports of track and field, cycling, swimming, all types of skiing, speed skating, and biathlon. He has served on international medical committees that include the International Olympic Committee, FIFA, International Biathlon Committee, International Ski Federation and the International Skating Union. Jim currently serves as the sports science advisor for the US Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), and is the founder of the SG Performance Medicine Center in Park City, Utah. His current focus is understanding and application of Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training.

Tribute to Flip Saunders
On Sunday Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations and head coach Flip Saunders passed away at the age of 60, just four months after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Stephon Marbury, who spent three seasons playing for Saunders, posted a tribute to his former coach on Sunday. "My heart and all of my love goes out to Flip Saunders. Family as your leader leaves this earth in the flesh," Marbury wrote on his Instagram page. "His spirit lives in the present as we speak." Saunders was a basketball lifer. He played for the University of Minnesota in the early 70s and began his coaching career in 1977. He spent nearly 20 years working at the college level, and in the Continental Basketball Association, before being hired as Timberwolves GM in 1995. That year he took over as head coach, and remained in that position for 10 years, before being fired in 2005. After that Saunders had stints in Detroit and Washington, and a pitstop at ESPN, until he was rehired by Minnesota in June 2014. During his first stint with the Timberwolves, Saunders traded the draft rights of Ray Allen, the No. 5 overall pick in the 1996 draft, to the Bucks in exchange for Stephon Marbury, who Milwaukee had selected one pick earlier. "In 1996 Flip became a father figure and my first #NBA coach," added Marbury in his tribute. "Wow how fast time blows by. Our conversations were so meaningful in ways that helped me understand the game of life by explaining the game of basketball. Your kind soul and loving ways helped me understand how to play the most important position in the sport of basketball. You gave me not only the chance to perform at a high level but a chance to communicate my thoughts on the game. You taught me how to play the pick and roll but you also taught me how to pick up and roll with the good and bad in the life. As a rookie we had so many conversations in such a short time period. You said 'The point guard has to be the extension to the coach' These words lived inside of me as I've had my share of ups and downs with coaches."kevin garnett, flip saunders cancer, flip saunders dead, nba, highlights, basketball, amazing, big, sports,Flip Saunders (Basketball Player),kevin garnett, minnesota timberwolves, coach, mourn, philip saunders,NBA TV (TV Network),chauncey billups, detroit pistons, washington wizards,season,2015,2016,finals,nba playoffs, game recap, video, trade, slam dunk contest, all star game, rookie, mvp, inside the nba, shaqtin' a fool, shaquille o'neal, charles barkley, kenny smith, los angeles lakers, kobe bryant, lebron james, kevin durant, carmelo anthony, dwight howard, kevin love, blake griffin, chris paul, derrick rose, funkyaxel, anthony davis, demarcus cousins,Rosen's Sports Sunday,Sports,News,Local News, lakers, lakers news, lakers rumors, kobe, kobe bryant interview, kobe bryant video, kobe bryant d'angelo russell,d'angelo russell, flip saunders,Minnesota Timberwolves (Professional Sports Team),National Basketball Association (Sports Association),flip saunders death, timberwolves coah flip saunders passes away, zach levine, karl anthony towns, andrew wiggins,Basketball (Interest),Flip Saunders,Kevin Garnett,Minnesota Timberwolves,Ricky Rubio,Andrew Wiggins,Zach LaVine,Nikola Pekovic,Kevin Martin,Gorgui Dieng,Thaddeus Young,Jos?? The (uncomfortable) truth of HR and leadership development | Patrick Vermeren | TEDxKMA
Quackery and pseudoscience can be very dangerous. Not only in medicine but also in human resources. Alarmed by the nonsensical ideas of Transactional Analysis, Patrick Vermeren set out on a mission to reveal the truth about the many HR theories, models and questionnaires. The academic literature revealed that most HR practices (in recruitment, assessment, development, coaching…) are very problematic and some even dangerous. In this Talk valid alternatives are presented. Patrick Vermeren has been active as a consultant, trainer and coach since 1996. He built on his experience at major Belgian banks ( Cera and Dexia) and an American multinational ( Procter & Gamble). Since he joined Perco he advises HR professionals and he guides groups and individuals in the areas of leadership, coaching and facilitating decision making in groups ( participation). He also assists CEOs, managers and high potentials through training and personal coaching. Coach Mike Saylor has always been a dedicated basketball individual. He was a walk-on varsity basketball player at Indiana State University from 1981 to 1983. Mike played for Indiana Hall-of-Fame coaches Bill Hodges and Dave Schellhase. Coach Hodges was the NCAA division one national coach-of-the-year and Dave Schellhase was an All-American at Purdue University. As a high school player, Mike lived three houses away from the legendary player Larry Bird and was inspired to do great things in basketball. Mike worked relentlessly to be a successful basketball player. His story is one of great perseverance. For years and years he studied the game, lifted weights, did skill work and played the game for hours each and every day. Mike was asked to be an assistant basketball coach at Indiana State after his playing days by ISU Coach Ron Greene. Mike worked tirelessly as an assistant coach by executing duties such as recruiting, on the court coaching, and public relations. Mike was asked to join the Terre Haute South High Schools Basketball staff by Indiana Hall-of-Fame Coach Pat Rady. In only two years at South, the program made it to the states prestigious one class Final Four for the first time in Coach Radys history. Mike worked very hard in the program for 14 years as an assistant and helped develop Big Ten players Brian Evans (All-American at Indiana University & NBA player), Maynard Lewis of Purdue University, Steve Hart of Indiana University and Armon Bassett of IU as well. While working on player development Mike invented a workout program that has been sold and utilized all over the world by professional teams, national teams, colleges as well as thousands of high school programs. The workout can be purchased at http://www.BasketballWorkout.com One of the greatest players that has used the Mike Saylor Basketball Workout is NBA first round draft pick by the Indiana Pacers, Tyler Hansbrough of the University of North Carolina . In 1994, Mike was asked by the Mexican government to direct the state of Nuevo Leons basketball operations as well as be the head college basketball coach at the University of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey (UANL), Mexico. While coaching at UANL, Mike helped develop the greatest player in Mexican history, Eduardo Najera. Najera continues to make millions of dollars in the NBA to this day for the New Jersey Nets. In 2004 Mike was hired as the Head Basketball Coach at South High School. In only his first year, Mike led the Braves to their first class 4A Final Four. The Braves lost to two NBA first round draft picks only a year later (Greg Odum & Michael Conley). As a head coach, Mike never had a starter over 64. Nevertheless, Mike developed a unique style of play that involved amazing three point shooting out of a spread offensive set and a defensive style of play that features multiple changes of the defense out the same original set. That defensive style of play created over 21 turnovers per game for the Braves opponents. In only two years of this style of play, Mike had four different players who hit 10 or more three pointers in a single game. One player hit 21 threes in 2 games and another player hit 30 threes in three games. Mikes teams have finished in the states top 10 three out of the five years that he has been the head coach. In 2008, Mike lead his team to the regional championship game only to be halted by number 2 ranked nationally and undefeated Bloomington South High School. Mikes coaching efforts gained him the praise and recognition by his coaching peers as he was voted Coach-of-the-Year in 2008-09. Mikes teams have won 18 or more games three times in five years. During the class basketball years Indiana Hall-of-Fame coaches of Terre Haute North and South won 18 games only once in their combined 19 years of coaching. One of Mikes proudest accomplishments is his diligent development of talent. Mikes players earned 15 full basketball scholarships in his five years as a head coach. 15 is more than all other sports combined within the three high school corporation. Coach Mike Saylor has extensive experience with all aspects of the media. Coach Mike Saylor has experience as a player and can relate to the young players of today. Coach Mike Saylor has the experience, insight and skill to develop players to their highest potential. Coach Mike Saylor is a players Coach who players love to play for. Coach Mike Saylors teams play harder than any team that you have ever seen. Coach Mike Saylor has experience as a head college basketball coach. Coach Mike Saylor has experience recruiting and has excellent contacts all over the world as well as the country. Coach Mike Saylor is ready to make your college basketball program a national power!
