That's where the nagging problem begins. Those essential fatty acids that are being stored away combine with two other essential fatty acids and a glycerol molecule to generate what’s known as a triglyceride. Triglycerides are extremely big, and for their size aren’t in a position to exit the fat cells like those free-flowing essential fatty acids can. As a result, triglycerides become stubborn body fat that is so difficult to get rid of incredibly. “But here’s finished .,” Flatt said. “Those triglycerides can be targeted, and they can be damaged back down into those fatty acids that may be burned by the body for energy. In fact, when we break down those triglycerides, it’s kind of like dumping rocket gasoline into the vehicle’s gas tank. Those divided triglycerides overflow the physical body with a great source of energy it actually wants to burn.” Flatt designed The 3 Week Diet never to only breakdown existing triglycerides, but to prevent the body from forming new ones. His program will much more to help dieters lose as much weight as possible. It corrects bad weight loss information that dieters receive on other programs. So I'm sure many people are wondering if this plan will actually work or not. Let's start by discussing the details of this plan: On Day 1 Breakfast is 1/2 Grapefruit 1 Slice of Toast 2 Tablespoons of Peanut Butter 1 cup Coffee or Tea (with caffeine) Lunch is 1/2 Cup of Tuna 1 Slice of Toast 1 cup Coffee or Tea (with caffeine) Dinner is 3 ounces of any type of meat 1 cup of green beans 1/2 banana 1 small apple 1 cup of vanilla ice cream Day 2 Breakfast is 1 egg 1 slice of toast 1/2 banana Lunch is 1 cup of cottage cheese 1 hard boiled egg 5 saltine crackers Dinner is 2 hot dogs (without bun) 1 cup of broccoli 1/2 cup of carrots 1/2 banana 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream Day 3 Breakfast is 5 saltine crackers 1 slice of cheddar cheese 1 small apple Lunch is 1 hard boiled egg (or cooked however you like) 1 slice of toast Dinner is 1 cup of tuna 1/2 banana 1 cup of vanilla ice cream So will this diet work? Depends on what you mean work. Will it make you lose weight? Yeah it'll make you lose weight. Don't get too excited yet let me explain. For day one the military diet claims to give you 1400 calories, but unless you are going to be pan frying a very fatty piece of meat, according to my calculations that number is closer to 1300 calories. On day 2 they say that you get 1200 calories and on day 3 they claim you get 1100. Both of these numbers seem accurate and match what I came up with. I don't know how much you know about calories, but all of these numbers are pretty low. In fact this is a very low calorie diet, and that is the ONLY reason why it works. It has nothing to do with the food they tell you to eat, or how the meals are organized, it works simply because of being so low in calories. And when I say that it works I mean unless you weigh under 120lbs your going to lose weight on this diet. That's not necessarily a good thing. This diet is basically a high protein, low calorie diet which is nothing special. As long as you spend three days eating under 1200 calories you will probably lose weight Military diet, atkins diet, standing upside down on your head diet. You're going to lose weight almost no matter what you eat if the daily totals are that low. The military diet demonstrates this with the poor nutritionless meals they recommend. Common sense should tell you this is definitely not a healthy eating plan.The acsm or american college of sports medicine also does not recommend that you go under 1200 calories if you're a woman and not under 1800 calories if you're a man. They proceed to say that self starvation will actually slow your metabolic rate significantly. So almost all men and most women will be slowing their metabolic rate during this diet. Which brings me to one very important question for you: what happens after the 3 days? You're just going to take the results you earned, put them in your pocket, go pig out and call it a day? What do you think happens at the end of these 3 days of deprivation. Or were you really under the impression that you would keep the weight off. Why don't you just start brushing your teeth for only 3 days, and showering for 3 days. I mean I'm sure the rest of the time you should smell fine. Also you probably won't lose 10 lbs in the three days. I'm willing to bet that claim came from a very heavy man that was used to eating a lot more. So most men and especially women will probably not lose 10lbs in the 3 days. And to top that off a lot of the weight lost will be muscle and water weight. I'm pretty sure people go on diets to lose body fat...yeah Getting your body to look the way you probably want it to look does not take 3 days. Just like smelling clean doesn't take only 3 days of effort. You have to put in a consistent effort every day to stay clean, the results from showering don't last forever. So to answer your question once and for all, can you lose weight on the Military diet yes. And you can also lose weight from eating 240 pieces of gum per day. And any breakfast isn’t complete without 1 cup of black coffee or caffeinated tea. Please note, you cannot add any sugar, cream, milk or sweeteners into your coffee or tea. These beverages are not essential to the diet as you can substitute it with any amount of water. But green tea and coffee both have thermogenic properties (burns more calories) and black coffee has the ability to suppress your appetite. The next meal of the day (lunch) consists of half a cup of tuna, another slice of toast (but no peanut butter this time) and water, black coffee or tea. If you need to season your foods then go with alternatives such as garlic salt, pepper, honey mustard, and any other low or no calorie seasoning. For dinner, you can have 3 ounces of any type of meat, 1 cup of green beans, half a banana, one small apple and one cup of vanilla ice cream. As you can tell, there isn’t a lot of food in this diet and that’s because lowering calories is what causes weight loss. If you wanna drop the pounds, you got to cut the calories! The next morning, breakfast should include one slice of multigrain or whole wheat toast, one whole egg, and half a banana. This diet is intended to last three days, and then take 4 days off. Rinse and repeat until you achieve the results you desire. The 4 days off do not mean you can binge eat and eat yourself to sickness. The goal should still be to eat around 1,500 calories or less. For lunch, you are entitled to one cup of cottage cheese (or you can replace it with 1 slice of cheddar cheese), 1 hard boiled egg and 5 saltine crackers. Dinner is served! You can have two hot dogs (minus the buns), 1 cup of broccoli, half a cup of carrots, half a banana, and half a cup of vanilla ice cream. This diet dictates vanilla ice cream only (why? I have no clue) but you can substitute ice cream (who would do that?) with one cup of apple juice or one cup of vanilla, strawberry or banana flavored almond milk. The vegetables on this diet should be steamed, baked, boiled or eaten raw. Meat should be grilled or baked, and if you are a vegetarian then you can substitute the protein sources with tofu, lentils, beans and/or portobello mushrooms. The third and final day has arrived! You’re almost there, don’t give up now! For breakfast, you are to have 5 saltine crackers, 1 slice of cheddar cheese and 1 small apple. Saltine crackers can be replaced with rice cakes (one for one) and cheddar cheese can be replaced with ham, eggs, cabbage or soy cheese. Don’t forget your black coffee or caffeinated tea! This lunch is going to be a bit small but on the menu is one slice of whole wheat or multigrain toast and one hard boiled egg. You can switch the egg out for one cup of milk, or two slices of bacon or just one chicken wing. As you can probably tell, from day 1 to day 3 there is a slow and gradual reduction of even more calories (hence the rapid weight loss.) For the last meal of day 3, you can have 1 cup of tuna, half a banana and one cup of vanilla ice cream. And remember, there is no snacking allowed on this diet. According to this diet, you can lose up to 10 pounds in 3 days! Crazy right? I personally think it’s a good way to train yourself to eat smaller portions. Results usually vary.
