The Meaning Of Coughing Up Mucus (Yellow, Green, Brown, White)
Mucus is a viscous material produced by the mucous layer of your windpipe. Made from proteins water, antibodies, and dissolved salts, it should be clear in a healthy person. Its job is to lubricate your throat and nose. In addition, mucus helps shield your lungs from bacteria, dust, exhaust fumes, viruses, cigarette smoke, and other intruders. Mucus also contains important elements of the immune system (like the white blood cells) which kill any bothersome trespassers it catches. However, infection or some other type of disorder causes mucus to thicken up and start accumulating in your throat. You start coughing because it irritates your windpipe and you need to get rid of it. Yellow Mucus Meaning Yellow mucus hints that the immune cells are starting to work at the site of the infection or another type of inflammatory insult. White blood cells, also called leukocytes, are the cells of the immune system which are responsible for fighting germs. As they continue to fight the infection, they get picked up by the mucus, giving it a yellowish tinge. Green Mucus Meaning Green mucus is the direct result of dead neutrophils, a type of white blood cell most active in inflammatory and infectious responses, within the sputum. When neutrophils die and burst, they release a green pigment known as verdoperoxidase. Brown Mucus Meaning The color brown usually means old blood. You usually see this color after your phlegm appears pink or red. White Mucus Meaning Coughing up white phlegm means there is no pus or blood in it. Also, this type of mucus may signal that you have a bacterial infection in your airways which could require antibiotics, according to Harvard Medical School. Ways To Clear Mucus Faster If you’re dealing with a persistent cough, you likely have a buildup of mucus in your chest. Left untreated, it may lead to additional complications. There are many methods to expel mucus faster. Let us take a look at some of them: Drinking sufficient liquids, particularly warm ones, can help your mucus flow. Moreover, water can loosen your congestion by helping your mucus move. Blow Your Nose Properly - Clear only one nostril at a time, blowing gently since blowing too hard can lead to small openings in the sinus areas and can force bacteria and irritants further back into the body. Lemon is an excellent ingredient for loosening phlegm and mucus. More importantly, lemon’s antibacterial property and high vitamin C content boost the body’s resistance to infections. Gargling with salt water is a simple and easy home remedy that can help to kill mucus-causing infections in your upper airways and throat. Thank you. What Your Mucus Says About Your Health
How much mucus is normal, and how much is too much? What does its color tell you about your health? No matter how gross it may seem, the mucus produced in your nostrils can tell you a lot about your health. This secretion contains proteins, anti-bodies, water, and even diluted salts. In fact, our body can produce up to 1.5 liters of mucus a day. Its main goal is to keep our nostrils lubricated, moistening the air we breathe in, and capturing the dust and other substances that might be floating in the air we breathe. When mucus changes colors, it may be a sign as something in your body isn’t right. Even though doctors don't normally analyze the color of mucus, it can give you some helpful tips about what's going on in your body. Green, yellow or brown Phlegm: What does it mean?
Green, yellow or brown Phlegm: What does it mean? Phlegm is a type of mucus that is produced in the lungs and nearby lower respiratory tract airways. This kind of mucus has a crucial role in preventing germs and materials from entering the airways and lungs and potentially causing an infection. Other areas of the body, including the upper respiratory tract (nose, mouth and throat), and gastrointestinal tract (gut), also secrete mucus. Typically, mucus is clear and thin and not noticeable at all. When someone gets sick with a cold or an infection, the mucus can become thickened and change color. In this video, we take a look at the various colors that mucus or phlegm can be, and what these mean for a person's health. We also examine different textures of phlegm and explain what a person can do if their phlegm changes. Colors of phlegm: The color of phlegm can give a lot of information about the possibility of what is going on with the lungs and other organs of the respiratory system.

Does coughing up phlegm mean I have lung cancer? - Elwyn Cabebe, MD - Oncology
Coughing up phlegm does not necessarily mean you have lung cancer. In this video, oncologist Elwyn Cabebe, MD, of Good Samaritan Hospital, describes other conditions that can cause phlegm, and what you should do. For more information please visit our website at http://www.goodsamsanjose.com/.
Lung cancer, also known as carcinoma of the lung or pulmonary carcinoma, is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. If left untreated, this growth can spread beyond the lung by process of metastasis into nearby tissue or other parts of the body. The vast majority (80–90%) of cases of lung cancer are due to long-term exposure to tobacco smoke. About 10–15% of cases occur in people who have never smoked. These cases are often caused by a combination of genetic factors and exposure to radon gas, asbestos, or other forms of air pollution, including second-hand smoke. Worldwide, lung cancer is the most common cancer among men in terms of both incidence and mortality, and among women has the third highest incidence, and is second after breast cancer in mortality. Learn the signs of lung cancer to catch the disease early and ensure a positive outcome. Below are some early signs of lung cancer according to healthline.com. No Warning Lung cancer may not produce any noticeable symptoms in the early stages. In approximately 40 percent of people diagnosed with lung cancer, the diagnosis is made after the disease has advanced. In one third of those diagnosed, the cancer has reached stage 3. Cough That Won’t Quit Be on alert for a new cough that lingers. While a cough associated with a cold or respiratory infection will go away in a week or two, a persistent cough that lingers can be a possible sign of lung cancer. Don’t be tempted to dismiss a stubborn cough, whether it is dry or mucus-producing, as “just a cough.” Change in a Cough Pay attention to any changes in a chronic cough, particularly if you are a smoker. If you are coughing more often, your cough has a deeper or hoarse sound, or you are coughing up blood or more mucus than usual, it’s time to make a doctor’s appointment. Breathing Changes Shortness of breath or becoming easily winded are also possible symptoms of lung cancer. This symptom can occur if lung cancer blocks or narrows an airway, or if fluid from a lung tumor builds up in the chest. Make a point of noticing when you feel winded or short of breath. If this symptom occurs after climbing the stairs to your house, bringing in groceries, or performing another task you could previously do without finding it hard to breathe, don’t ignore it. Pain in the Chest Area Lung cancer may produce pain in the chest, shoulder, or back area. This aching feeling may not be associated with coughing. Tell your doctor if you notice any type of chest pain, whether it is sharp, dull, constant, or comes and goes. You should also note whether it is confined to a specific area or is occurring throughout your chest. When lung cancer causes chest pain, the discomfort may result from enlarged lymph nodes or metastasis to the chest wall, pleura (lining around the lungs), or the ribs. Wheezing When airways become constricted, blocked, or inflamed, the lungs produce a wheezing or whistling sound when you breathe. Wheezing can be associated with multiple causes, some of which are benign and easily treatable. However, wheezing is also a lung cancer symptom, which is why it merits your doctor’s attention. If wheezing continues, don’t assume it’s asthma or allergies. Have your doctor confirm what’s causing it. Raspy, Hoarse Voice If you hear a significant change in your voice, or if someone else points out that your voice sounds deeper, hoarse, or raspier, get checked out by your doctor. Hoarseness can be caused by a simple cold, but this symptom becomes worrisome when it hangs on for more than two weeks. Hoarseness related to lung cancer can occur when the tumor affects the nerve that controls the larynx, or voice box. Drop in Weight An unexplained weight loss of 10 pounds or more may be associated with lung cancer or another type of cancer. When cancer is present, this weight drop may result from cancer cells using energy in the body. It could also result from shifts in the way the body uses food energy. Don’t write off a change in your weight if you haven’t been trying to shed pounds—it may be a clue to a change in your health. Bone Pain Lung cancer that has spread to the bones may produce pain in the back or in other areas of the body. This pain may worsen at night while resting on the back. Additionally, lung cancer is sometimes associated with shoulder, arm, or neck pain, although this is less common. Be attentive to your aches and pains, and discuss them with your doctor. Headache Headaches may be a sign that lung cancer has spread to the brain. However, not all headaches in people with lung cancer are associated with brain metastases. Sometimes, a lung tumor may create pressure on the superior vena cava, which is the large vein that moves blood from the upper body to the heart. This pressure can also trigger headaches. Talk with your doctor if your body shows these symptoms.

What causes blood in Sputum?
What causes blood in Sputum? Blood in the sputum or mucus when a person coughs or spits is called hemoptysis. Although the blood can be worrying, it is usually not a cause for concern, especially in young or otherwise healthy people. Blood in the sputum is a common event in many mild respiratory conditions, including upper respiratory infections, bronchitis, and asthma. It can be alarming to cough up a significant amount of blood in sputum or to see blood in mucus frequently. In severe cases, this can result from a lung or stomach condition. Many people notice no symptoms until the cancer has reached an advanced stage; others do have symptoms but, because those symptoms are so vague, mistakenly attribute them to minor illnesses. It is wise, therefore, to learn as much as possible about the signs and symptoms of lung cancer, especially if you smoke or have other risk factors. This guide will help you know what to look for 1 See a doctor if you have a persistent cough. One of the most common symptoms of lung cancer is a cough that does not go away. See a doctor if your cough lasts more than two weeks, if it increases in intensity over time, or if you cough up blood (this is called hemoptysis) or a lot of phlegm. Ironically, smokers, who have the highest risk of lung cancer, tend to cough a lot and, consequently, do not seek treatment for this most common symptom. If you smoke, be aware of any changes in your cough, and meet with your doctor regularly. Consider getting checked for lung cancer every couple of months You’ll also want to note any changes in the character of the cough. You should be worried if, for example, a dry cough suddenly starts producing a lot of sputum. Likewise, you should be worried if the color of your sputum changes. In particular, keep an eye out for chocolatey brown, black, or greenish sputum. 2 Watch for any problems with your breathing. Shortness of breath (dyspnea) is a common symptom of lung cancer, but it is often attributed to obesity, old age, or weather changes. See a physician if you are having trouble breathing, especially if your shortness of breath occurs outside of any strenuous activity. In some cases, a lung cancer patient will feel back pain that worsens the deeper that they breathe in. 3 Do not dismiss aches and pains. Dull and persistent aching in your chest, shoulders, or arms could be an early symptom of lung cancer. This discomfort might progress to include tingling, numbness, and even paralysis. 4 Investigate recurrent airway infections. If you have multiple episodes of bronchitis or pneumonia, talk to your doctor about the possibility of cancer. Tumors can obstruct your airways and make you prone to these kinds of infections. 5 Look for a loss of appetite. Lung cancer, like other cancers, can cause a loss of appetite. If you notice your appetite has diminished, make an appointment with your doctor. 6 Pay attention to your weight. Cancer cells use an inordinate amount of your body’s energy and can affect your metabolism, leading to weight loss. This is sometimes exacerbated by the loss of appetite some patients experience. If you lose ten pounds suddenly or without dieting, consult a doctor. SUBSCRIBE TO MORE VIDEOS

Black phlegm that smokers cough up, black lung!!! Redeux!!
I decided since i hacked some an amazing loogie of black shit that id record it again and talk about it briefly as last time it was kinda of orange and i havent eaten anything yet so here it is. The real video lol. With real black phlegm and nothing but! Its clear it's just ashes making its way into my lung and leaf bits. Also its very obvious its the brown tar that eventually turns black we all know as resin. If you smoke you are your own pipe. Therefore it gets clogged and dirty lol. It does come flying out for me because my body puts phlegm around it, im guessing vaping can loosen it and hot showers always make me cough a loogie up lol. So here again more disgusting shit for you guys to go "OH NOEZ" over and stop your bullshit smoking that you know isnt helping you get higher or save money. Get to vaping! I know i do! Ill admit this however as im not completely smoke free. I like to smoke my harvest when it comes around as it so delicious i worked so hard on it and its truly for nostalgia of what it used to be like so i can remember good times. I started vaping to save money but now its a health thing. I certainly have saved thousands of dollars with how much i have stashed in e juice, and how much it can prevent me from buying new bud every month not to mention im growing my own herb so i wont even need to buy any if i wanted some. But currently my home grow stash is out lmao. I over did it last time as it was the strongest best herb I have ever tried and totally right down my alley in the medicinal world, and well i decided this is my first good harvest, im going to abuse it as this may be my only opportunity to really experience what its like to have more than an ounce of top shelf. Needless to say i smoked way too much and went back to shake (which now for sure im promising i will never do anymore as its pointless, barely gets me medicated ill end up hurting myself instead of saving money) and will now resort to only buying mid grades to top shelf (whatever tastes good) Now of course my advice is quit smoking weed and whatever else you smoke altogether. But i know its tough and it is for me as well, because it just tastes so much better lol. I think if i buy a herb attachment to vape herb budlets in my mod i will get that amazing flavor back. Lately i have been "dripping" into my tank atomizer and using it like an RDA/RBA and its been working wonders on the flavor and smoothness of the hit. Ill make a video of that maybe. But i think its self explanatory but ill get bored today im sure and want to explain lol. Heres to top shelf joints for nostalgia and vaping for a healthy lung. Which i gotta say despite all my smoking every since i started my lungs have been healthier than they were as a kid! I think its because it opens my airways, cannabis is good for asthma. However its clear tar happens but it isnt causing me asthmatic symptoms. Vape one! Peace

Beaware! 7 Reasons You Cough Brown Mucus
Mucus is actually a lubricant that acts like a moisturiser on the throat. So if you see mucus in your spit, you may not need to worry much in most of cases. Generally, dry throat gets irritated and therefore, the throat needs mucus to keep it wet. But wait, brown mucus means something. It means something is wrong inside as mucus generally doesn't have any colour to it. It is better to visit the doctor if you spit brown mucus. Gargle warm salt water to cleanse the mucus and keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of water. And here are some reasons why you have your phlegm brown in colour. Reason #1 Those who experience nasal bleeding because of a condition called nasal polyps tend to spit brown mucus. Visit a doctor if that is the case. Reason #2 Even pollution can be one reason. When you breathe in contaminated air, your phlegm tends to be darker. That is because your body is trying to throw away the dust particles through your phlegm. Reason #3 Even acid reflux could turn your phlegm into a different colour due to the food that you have eaten. Undigested food and mucus could make you feel vomit or spit brown mucus. Reason #4 If you have the habit of smoking, the tar and several other substances present in the smoke accumulate in the lung passage. That could cause brown mucus. Try to quit smoking as your respiratory system will take a severe blow if you contaminate it with tons of chemicals. Reason #5 Lung infections could also cause brownish phlegm. When bacteria get trapped, the colour of mucus could change. Reason #6 Even bronchitis and lung cancer could also show symptoms like brown phlegm. Therefore, it is better to get yourself diagnosed by a doctor if you observe coughing and brown phlegm. Reason #7 Even alcohol can cause infections in the respiratory tract. When lungs and throat suffer inflammation, you may observe your mucus turning brown in colour. Video URL : https://youtu.be/L64IFBncQGs

Long-term exposure to irritating gases or particulate matter, (most often cigarette smoke), is the primary cause. If you have COPD, it's usually due to one of two lung conditions: emphysema or chronic bronchitis. The same symptoms are generally common to both disorders. Warning signs and symptoms of COPD usually include a combination of the following. * Shortness of breath and wheezing, especially during physical activities. * A frequent feeling of tightness in the chest. * A chronic cough that may produce mucus (sputum) that may be clear, white, yellow or greenish. Those with COPD often have to clear mucus from their airways when they first wake up. * Cyanosis, or lack of enough oxygen, causing the lips or fingernail beds to appear blue. * Frequent, repated respiratory infections. * Fatigue and a general lack of energy. * Swelling in ankles, feet or legs * When COPD reaches an advanced stage, unintended weight loss is likely to occur. COPD symptoms generally don't show up until there's been significant damage to the lungs. They often get worse over time, particularly there's continued exposure to cigarette smoke.

What can coughing up black mucus with sore throat mean? - Dr. Satish Babu K
The commonest cause of a very thick mucus which is black in colour along with soreness in the throat and cold and cough is because of regular smoking. If you are a regular smoker, you take in a lot of carbon with chemicals, this gets deposited in the lung and in the process of healing itself the body tries to remove these carbon particles and the chemicals. So it starts pushing it out of the lungs. So it comes to the throat and it starts irritating the throat leading to inflammation, chemical induced inflammation causing soreness not as bad as what we would have during infection, but not as bad as tonsillitis or pharyngitis, but it makes you constantly clear the throat. Constant clearing will lead to this thick mucus which is back in color because of the presence of carbon particles in it. rare cause could be some bleeding inside the respiratory tract maybe because of a past infection or because of a tuberculosis or some other lung infection, there has been some other bleed inside the lungs which got stored inside in the form of blackish colour or at some point if you are coughing, it can get dislodged and come in contact with the mucus and give a black colour. If there is a constant black color excess in quantity for a long time, it is better to consult a doctor and get the problem sorted out.

Early Signs of Bronchitis - Bronchitis Symptoms Don't Ignore These
Don't Ignore These Early Symptoms of Bronchitis Like, Comment, Subscribe and invite all your friends to see our videos. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfR3Y90G-fFDYI6i7E7xPBQ Signs and Symptoms of Bronchitis, Bronchitis Treatment The first sign of bronchitis is usually a persistent dry cough (associated with an upper respiratory infection). Eventually, coughing brings up sputum from the lungs that may be thin, clear, and white. As infection progresses, the sputum becomes thick and yellow, green, or brown. A thick, pus-filled discharge suggests a bacterial infection. Other symptoms include the following: - Burning pain, wheezing, and crackling in the chest - Painful and difficult breathing - Malaise (generally feeling unwell) - Low-grade fever (101ºF–102ºF) Insomnia can develop with persistent nighttime coughing. Symptoms usually last 3 to 7 days; a dry cough commonly persists several weeks after the infection resolves. Complications of Bronchitis Left untreated, acute bronchitis can occasionally progress to pneumonia and chronic bronchitis, particularly in people with suppressed immune systems or lung disease. Chronic bronchitis is associated with long-term constriction of airways, bacterial infection, and other diseases, including asthma, emphysema, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Bronchitis Diagnosis Diagnosis is made by the health care provider taking a careful history of symptoms and performing a physical examination. A stethoscope is used to listen to the lungs. If symptoms are prolonged or severe, a chest x-ray may be performed to check for a more serious condition. Treatment for Bronchitis Viral bronchitis usually resolves without treatment. Increasing fluid intake helps reduce congestion and is necessary when fever is present. Rest is also helpful, and fever and back and muscle pain may be treated with acetaminophen (Tylenol). Over-the-counter cough suppressants and expectorants and steamy showers can temporarily relieve symptoms by thinning mucus and opening airways, allowing for easier expulsion of mucus. Bacterial bronchitis is treated with antibiotics, such as tetracycline, erythromycin, and amoxicillin (in children), depending on the causative bacteria. Side effects of these medications are usually mild and include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Prevention of Bronchitis Good hygiene can reduce the spread of viral infection. Immunizations against influenza and pertussis can reduce the risk for bacterial bronchitis. Avoiding smoking cigarettes, second-hand smoke, and heavy fumes can hasten recovery, because the lungs' task of filtering pollutants is made easier. {The information provided on this channel and its videos is for general purposes only and should not be considered as professional advice. Chest Infection Symptoms
Visit oure website - http://chiropractorfortworth.org - Chest Infection Symptoms. Chest infection is quite common among both adults as well as small children. It is of two different types. One is related to upper respiratory tract infection where the nose, sinus cavities, larynx and pharynx are involved. In the other one, the lower respiratory tract is attacked and the lungs get affected. This is a more serious condition and is found in people suffering from pneumonia. Causes. Chest infection is caused either by the different viruses that are responsible for cold and flu or some bacteria. Its symptoms are usually observed within 2-3 days after you catch the infection and may continue to bother you for the next few weeks. Symptoms in Adults. The symptoms of upper and lower respiratory tract infection have lots of similarity but their intensity becomes much severe when the lungs get infected. Here are the commonly observed symptoms of chest infection: Chest Congestion: A dull, heavy feeling inside the chest is one of the obvious signs of infection in the chest. This is because of phlegm in chest. When there is a heavy congestion, it gives pain and discomfort. Persistent cough often aggravates this pain further. Cough: An inflammation in the air passage that lies in between the nose and the lungs causes a lot of irritation inside the throat which gives rise to a chesty cough. Initially, it is a dry cough but as mucous gets accumulated, thick mucus is expelled which is yellow or green in color. Repeated cough contracts the thoracic cavity so badly that traces of blood may come out with the phlegm. The cough bothers the patient for at least 7-10 days, if not weeks. Breathing Difficulty: As the nose and rest of the respiratory tract gets blocked with thick mucus, breathing problem arises. As a result, one starts taking shallow and rapid breaths. It also produces wheezing sound during inhalation. Fever: The body temperature often rises because of the infection. If it is an upper respiratory infection, then usually one gets a mild fever. However, the fever due to pneumonia, could go beyond 101 degrees F. Pain: Chest infection makes your body weak and it is susceptible to pain. One may experience headache quite frequently. The joints, bones, muscles and nerves of the body becomes tender and pain is experienced in various parts of the body. In this condition, back and neck pain mostly arise due to achy muscles. Symptoms in Babies. The symptoms in children and babies are more or less the same as adults. You must observe them carefully as the symptoms may have severe impact on their health. They often have swallowing difficulty in this condition. So, they should be fed with great care to avoid choking. There are some symptoms in babies that require emergency medical intervention, for example, shortness of breath, which is accompanied by a bluish tinge in lips, tongue, and face and abnormal drowsiness. Treatment. When the symptoms are mild, they may not require any medical treatment, they may subside on their own. Moderate to serious infections are diagnosed with the help of laboratory test like X-rays and mucus sample test. Bacterial chest infection is treated with the help of antibiotic medicines. However, if it is caused by virus, then antibiotics are ineffective on them. In that case, the symptoms are controlled with the help of suitable medicines. For pain and fever, pain relieving medicines are prescribed by the doctors. Expectorants and cough suppressants can be used to check a bad cough. When you are suffering from chest infection, you must take adequate amount of rest which will help the body to recover from it. You should also keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. Inhalation of steam facilitates thinning up of the mucus and ensures its faster elimination. The symptoms tend to get worse with exposure to irritants such as dust, smoke, chemicals, etc. Therefore, you should stay away from them. You should cover up your face while sneezing and coughing to avoid spread of infection. Read more at buzzle.com/articles/chest-infection-symptoms.html
