Bipolar Meds: The Side Effects + What I'm On :) | Lithium. Lamictal. Prozac. Duloxetine, etc.

These are all the psychiatric drugs I've taken for Depression and Bipolar Disorder. The side effects going onto each drug and increasing the dosage are really awful and made me sick all the time. But I LOVE the result and it's worth fighting through all the acne, exhaustion, flu-like symptoms, dehydration, etc. I have Bipolar 2 and experience mostly depressive episodes with lighter hypomanic times. Here is the playlist I promised of all the videos I've made about Bipolar Disorder: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6zP_UCWqLrHX2Yz38MCsPww4c3JKvVrN MY LAST VIDEO (The Yoga Challenge): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IXO7... Lamotrigine Medication Information (dosing, side effects, patient counseling)

02:56
Your medication Lamotrigine Lamotrigine is also known by the brand name: Lamictal, Lamictal ODT, and Lamictal XR. Lamotrigine comes in 25, 100, 150, and 200mg tablets, 5, and 25mg chewable tablets, 25, 50, 100, and 200mg dissolvable tablets, and 25, 50, 100, 200, 250, and 300mg extended release tablets. Lamotrigine is most commonly used to treat seizures and bipolar problems. No matter what your doctor has you taking it for, lamotrigine is taken by mouth with or without food once or twice a day. Do not take this drug with dairy products, like milk or yogurt, or calcium rich juices. If upset stomach occurs take lamotrigine with food. If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. For best results take each dose at the same time each day. Extended-release tablets must be swallowed whole, do not split or break tablets. Use dry hands to take the dissolvable tablet out of the foil and place on top of your tongue. Allow tablet to melt, then swallow. Some common side effects with lamotrigine include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, weakness, and constipation. Some less common side effects include a very bad skin reaction, headache, abnormal thinking, swelling of the arms or legs, and weight gain or loss. Do not take lamotrigine if: you have an allergic reaction like a rash, water retention, hives, extensive itching, or mouth ulcers to lamotrigine or any component of the formulation. While taking lamotrigine, remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have: • Signs of an allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling, tightness of the chest, etc.) • An allergy to lamotrigine. • A very bad skin reaction, it can cause bad health problems and sometimes death. Get medical attention if you have signs like red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever, red or irritated eye, or sores in your mouth, throat, nose, or eyes. Most cases have happened within 2 to 8 weeks of starting this drug, but some could show up as much as 6 months after. • This medication should not be abruptly discontinued because of the possibility of increasing seizure frequency. All forms of lamotrigine need to be stored at room temperature in a dry place, protected from light.

Lamictal Side Effects | Dealing with the Side Effects of Lamotrigine

Check out my blog for a FREE Ketogenic diet cookbook - https://getfitandhealthyathome.com/free-keto-cookbook-bacon-and-butter/ I was on lamictal for almost a decade in my twenties. Lamictal caused the most extreme side effects of the four different anti-convulsants that I have taken to control my epilepsy. The side effects of lamictal on my body were double vision, slower thinking skills, and terrible bouts of vertigo which were worse than seizures for me. One day when I was driving, I did start seeing double. It was awful. It was also a catalyst to get healthier and improve my health to the point where I wouldn't be relying on medication for my seizure control. When I started lamictal, the side effects that were listed were minimal. It was a newer drug and the only side effect of lamictal that my doctor was concerned about was the chance of a rash. I started to experience double visions months after I began taking the medication. It took me awhile to realize that my double vision was a lamictal side effect. Be informed before going on Lamictal. It is a drug and can control your seizures, but be forewarned that there are side effects and you will likely experience them. Is there anything that you can do about the side effects of lamictal? I recommend doing some clay detox baths to draw out some of the toxins that the prescription medications leave in your body. It reduces the stress on your body and can help you feel healthier and live a higher quality of life. 0:01 lamictal side effects video begins 0:15 I am the author of Seizure Free, Addressing the Causes of Seizures Naturally 0:25 Lamictal side effects on me Check out my blog for more info on me - http://melindacurle.com/2013/09/28/addressing-the-causes-of-seizures-naturally/

Medications for Depression & Bipolar | Robert D. McMullen, MD

08:44
Robert D. McMullen, MD about Medications for Depression & Bipolar http://tmsbraincare.com/medications-bipolar-depression-hd-video/ Medications for treatment of Depression & Bipolar disorders Major depressive disorder is also known as major depression, clinical depression, or unipolar depression. The term unipolar refers to the presence of one pole, or one extreme of mood- depressed mood. This may be compared with bipolar depression which has the two poles of depressed mood and mania (i.e., euphoria, heightened emotion and activity). Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression) causes serious shifts in mood, energy, thinking, and behavior—from the highs of mania on one extreme, to the lows of depression on the other These are of 2 types • Bipolar I disorder involves periods of severe mood episodes from mania to depression. The highs may even require hospitalization of the person. • Bipolar II disorder is a milder form of mood elevation, involving milder episodes of hypomania that alternate with periods of severe depression The depression that people with bipolar disorder experience is generally of a melancholic or psychotic type and therefore more biological in its nature. The depression found in these bipolar patients can be difficult to treat than unipolar depression as the antidepressants can cause them to have greater mood swings. These patients need to be on mood-stabilizing drugs. The antidepressants alone can actually increase the manic episodes and worsen the disorder. Antidepressants: divided into three main classes: • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) - were developed in the 1980's and are the most common prescribed today. They are sold under brand names such as Prozac, Paxil, Prozac, Luvox, Zoloft, Celexa • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) There are three types of MAOIs, phenelzine,(Nardil) isocarboxazid and tranylcypromine, ( Parnate) and moclobemide.) • Tricyclic drugs (TCAs). (sold as Amitriptyline, Imipramine) For effective control and to limit the side effects a combination can be used such as Wellbutrin (or bupropion). Mechanisms of action are different hence lower doses of both help control side effects. The combination of Zoloft and wellbutruim earned the popular name Welloft. The MAO inhibitors are more effective than the SSRI drugs. But can cause severe weight gain and therefore patients need to work on diet control, else the spike in blood pressure can be dangerous. They are contraindicated with drugs that work on serotonin. Lamictal (or Lamotrigine) was FDA approved for treating depression in 2003.The main advantage being, no sexual dysfunction, no sexual side effects and no weight gain. There is no sedative effect and dosage is generally much less than used for seizures. If any of the above mentioned combinations are ineffective in controlling depression, the thyroid hormone replacement drug Cytopan or Cytomel or Synthroid can be added to any of the above drug. Atypical anti-psychotics such as low doses of Zyprexa, or Abilify, or Seroquel, and the latest Quetiapine can also be prescribed. 150 mg of Lithium, normally prescribe for Bipolar at much higher doses, can be used safely without having to get regular blood checks. Common MEDICATIONS for Depersonalisation Disorder: SSRI + LAMOTRIGINE

07:00
This week, we'll be looking at a common starting point for medicating against Depersonalisation Disorder: the combination of an SSRI antidepressant and Lamotrigine. This is by no means an 'official' medication for DPD and there is no "one-pill-cures-all" approach to treating it. But, this combination is often the most common starting point when using medication to treat DPD, as it's the medication that has shown the most promise in all the drug trials. It's also the combination that I am taking - and have recently reached the target 'treatment' dose of both medications. Quite a few of you have asked me how I've been getting on with it & whether I've had any side effects - so I'll discuss that in this video too. What would you like to see discussed on this channel? What questions do you have about DP? How can I make this channel better? Help to drive the content - get in touch and send me your questions, opinions, ideas etc. I want to tailor this channel to you. :-) Email: joe@dpddiaries.co.uk Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dpddiaries/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/dpddiaries ...or just comment under this video! If you'd like to receive a newsletter about DPD matters - including details of peer support and the forthcoming DPD charity, please drop my friend Jane Charlton an email at dprdaware@gmail.com. She's hugely knowledgable about DPD (far more so than I!) and does great work in campaigning to raise awareness of the condition. **Disclaimer** I am not a trained professional in any way. This channel is comprised largely of my own personal opinions & experiences as a DPD sufferer. I do lots of research about DPD and have spoken to many professionals - I endeavour to include their knowledge within my videos, but it's inevitable that at some point I may get medical facts slightly wrong. Please don't use the content of this channel for your own self-diagnosis...use it to learn about Depersonalisation, engage in discussion with others and - if appropriate - assist you in gathering information to then discuss with your doctor or mental health professional.

Bipolar Medications Changed My Life

02:52
I get a lot of questions about bipolar medications and, in this video, I answer them; including how they changed my life for the better. If you’re recently diagnosed, one of the biggest problems is finding the right medication for bipolar disorder that works specifically for you. Unfortunately, this can be extremely difficult and exhausting. After my diagnosis of bipolar 2, the first step was trying various medications to see what worked and what didn't. Unfortunately, the side effects of many of these bipolar medications can be severe, such as weight gain, extreme drowsiness, and other effects that hinder a person's ability to function. There was a point that the bipolar medications seemed to only increase my depressive and emotional behavior. I was incapable of communicating properly with those around me. Finally, I went to my doctors and demanded to find the right routine of medications. It took me around 5 years to find a steady regimen of medications that efficiently managed my bipolar disorder without dampening my personality and increasing my weight. I still experience highs and lows on medication, however, I have more control over it, whereas before my condition was in control of me. Hopefully, in the future, research will uncover new treatment methods with fewer side effects. Until then, do not lose hope and continue communicating with medical professionals seeking the right routine of bipolar medications for you. In the comments, I hope you'll share your experience with bipolar meds and, in what ways, have they helped you. ------- Hannah posts a new video every Monday morning on the HealthyPlace YouTube Channel. GSK Hides Dangerous Side Effects of Epilepsy Drug

While we all know that any drug comes with side-effects, it’s critical that drug companies and foundations tell the public the truth about those side-effects. In this Video: Learn how drug giant GlaxoSmithKline lied to the FDA and withheld critical information tying their seizure medication Lamictal to a devastating conditions known as Steven Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and even toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). How their Drug increases suicide and suicidality by more than 3 fold. How the Epilepsy Foundation fails to mention the corruption/fraud behind this drug and the real risks of life altering permanent side-effects. Watch as Dr. Dale breaks down the problems between Big Pharma fraud and The Epilepsy Foundation's misinformation regarding the true risk of Lamictal. It is my hope that as a community and nation we can drive real change and end corruption within medicine. Links to referenced research articles can be found at thewilddoc.com. What Is Lamictal? | Epilepsy

01:56
Watch more Epilepsy & Seizure Disorders videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/502059-What-Is-Lamictal-Epilepsy Lamictal or Lamotrigine is another great medication that's used to control epilepsy. It's been out for a number of years. In fact it is now available in a generic formalization but it's also available in a extended release and in a o d t, which is a oral disintegrating tablet. So it's a pill you can place on your tongue. It's great for little kids and it just dissolves. It's another sodium channel drug which is interesting. It's good for both partial complex seizures as well as generalized seizures. It also has a FDA approval for bipolar disorder as well. And it's really well tolerated. Very few side effects. The big side effect and the big black box warning with Lamotrigine is that you can develop a bad rash from it. It's called a Stevens Johnson reaction. So what happens is if you start the dose abruptly or you try to treat it too quickly and raise the dose to quickly, or if you use in combination with other medications. You can develop this rash that's sort of a red raised rash. Usually on the trunk and the chest. It gets worse, it can spread to the mouth. If that happens it's something that needs to get treated in the hospital with steroids, but usually you can avoid that happening at by slowly increasing the dose, by telling the patients about the possibility of this rash developing. And if the rash develops you hold the medication and give them benadryl. But the rash shouldn't stop you from thinking about using this medication. Very few people get the rash. The rash is usually easily manageable, because it's such a great medication with few cognitive side effects. No weight gain. Only rarely have people complained about insomnia with lymictal. But in overall it's a great medication. It works well and it's used for a bunch of different seizure types. Works on sodium channels. Well tolerated and it's also another one that can be used in pregnancy at lower doses not at higher doses.

Bipolar Disorder: Adventures With Lamictal

07:33
Yo yiggity yo as the kids are saying. I went to the doctor and found out I am in fact a basket case (technically I don't have an official diagnosis but I exaggerate to seem more interesting). Now I spend my days ingesting ~poison chemicals~ made specially for me by the evil bigwigs in ~big pharma~ (shoutout to pfizer). Does she have epilepsy? Does she have bipolar disorder (yes)? Does she have a drug problem (probably yes also)? The world may never know. I'm on this bullshit mood stabilizer that is not actually bullshit but I like calling things bullshit. Incidentally, it is also an anticonvulsant, so I suppose you could say it is working, as I haven't had any seizures since I started taking it. However, I also haven't had any seizures before I started taking it, because I'm not fucking epileptic. I haven't hit my maintenance dose yet (although I'm writing this a few days after the recording and I've had a good couple of days, so maybe 100mg is the beginning of something gr8) but here is a video of me talking about my side effects (headaches, nausea, ugliness, depression maybe, or maybe I am just generally a mess) thus far. If you listen closely, you can hear my little sister slam the toilet seat shut and stomp down the hall. Don't try to get my personal info from the little glimpses of my prescription bottles because I will literally bite off your balls if you show up at my house (alternatively, I will dig out your ovaries. I'm all about the gonads). It may seem like I'm extra nuts based on this rambly train of thought, but a bitch gotta pay the bills (even though I haven't even made enough money to receive a single payment from adsense and I've been partnered since ninth fucking grade) and SEO is boring unless you type continuously like a space wasting asshole. Just call me Willow Marbles! If you have read this far, why? Do you have children? A husband or something? Not that you should validate your existence with other people, but don't you have something to do? I've written a book, please read that instead. I'm assuming that if you're reading this whole fucking description, you must be interested enough in me to read a book I've written. But hold your goddamn horses because it isn't edited yet. There's a lot of shit about death in that book. Get ready. I'll jerk your tears like they've never been jerked before. Speaking of death: suicide. Is a thing that I talk about in this video. To clarify, I'm not suicidal. I don't want to die. I just get suicidal ideations, where my own internal voice repeatedly tells me that I want to kill myself. It's not a "voice" that I'd confuse for a real one, like in schizophrenia, and it's not an actual desire that I harbor. Just a very intrusive and terrifying thought. Anyone who is going to come to this video to say anything about how psychological meds make me "not myself" or they're bad for me or I should just work through it, or ANYTHING about how i'm medicating a condition that "isn't even proven to exist," just save yourself the trouble and instead, repeatedly fuck yourself with a bowling pin. Orifice of your choice.

Bipolar Medication: Lithium

13:20
I hope you enjoyed the video! Here is a link to test your knowledge: http://empowern.com/2015/08/bipolar-medication-lithium/ Lithium belongs to the drug class: antimanic agents and it is sold under the US brand names: Lithobid, Eskalith, Eskalith-CR. More than 5.7 million American adults or 2.6 percent of the population age 18 or older in any given year have bipolar disorder. Lithium is helping some of this American. It has become one of the first and widely used psychiatric drugs for the treatment of bipolar disorder in the United States, since its approval in the 1970s. It also has become one of the most studied psychiatric medications. Indication: Lithium is an effective drug for bipolar disorder as its properties help to prevent, as well as stabilize, manic-depressive mood swings that occur in this psychiatric condition. By controlling mood disorder, it also reduces the risk of suicide. This is an advantage of lithium that is lacking in some other drugs. But it is more effective in preventing depression than it is in preventing mania. However, it needs time to develop and reach its ideal therapeutic level in the body before it induces any effects. Usually it takes about 1-3 weeks, however, in the case of sudden or acute bipolar episodes, if lithium hasn’t reached its optimum level in the client’s body, it can be prescribed along with other medications for effectiveness. Lithium can also be prescribed for other psychiatric disorders besides bipolar disorder. It can be useful when other drugs fail in conditions such as schizophrenia, major depression, and certain psychiatric problems in children. Mechanism of Action: Although lithium had been used for more than 50 years in the treatment of bipolar disorder, its mechanism of action was unknown; until 1998. Scientists didn’t know the cause of mood swings in bipolar disorder either. A study made in 1998, by a group of researchers from Wisconsin University shed light on how lithium works and why it is effective. It was concluded that lithium acts on certain nerve cells in the brain and the receptors of the neurotransmitter glutamate. Lithium has a dual effect on these receptors, and using this, it helps to regulate the level of glutamate between cells, preventing it from reaching too high or too low concentrations. According to the director of this research, Dr. Lowell Hokin, who is also a school professor of pharmacology at Wisconsin University; too little glutamate between neurons cause depression, while excessive amounts of glutamate cause mania. But it is also believed that there are more causes and factors involved in these disorders besides the level of glutamate, but nevertheless, the study has been very helpful as it has uncovered the fundamental causes of bipolar disorder.
