Three Letter Blending A | Short Vowels,Beginning Readers, Pre-Readers Phonics Lesson

06:28
http://www.firststepreading.com | This video teaches your child how to blend 3 letters together to read Short Vowel A 3 letter words. This video shows your child to use both letter sounds and word families to help him/her blend 3 letters together to read words. Reading 3 Letters words is taught by moving a Consonant closer and closer to Short Vowel A Word Family Endings. Blending sounds to make words is a learning process. The first step of blending is when your child states the correct sounds for the letter characters that are being blended for example the word, "Cat" will often first be read as "C"- "at." With practice your child will learn to further blend the sounds to correctly say "Cat." Your child will learn to read 3 letter Short Vowel A words in the Practice Reading Book. (Practice Reading Book 1: Pages 1-26).

Phase 2 teaching blending

07:48
This is a video clip from the DfES Letters and Sounds Programme (2007) used to teach children to read in many schools. This clip shows children learning how to blend sounds to make CVC words. Sound buttons are shown (dots under each phoneme) to help children discriminate between the individual sounds. Children read the sounds in a word first quite slowly, and then the teacher gets the children to speed up the reading of the individual phonemes - fast enough so that the children can then 'hear' the blend. Children have their own phoneme boards where they get to make up CVC words of their own by combining sound cards.

Watch more How to Teach Your Child to Read videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/460473-How-to-Teach-Sight-Words-Reading-Lessons Hi, my name is Anne Glass. I'm a reading and learning specialist at a private school in New York City, and I work with kindergartners through third graders on reading word study and writing skills. In addition to being a reading specialist and a learning specialist, I am also a parent and today I am going to talk to you about topics in reading. When I teach a reading lesson to young emergent readers, my over arching goal is to make sure they are successful and that means that I have a very specific goal in mind and I keep my goals very manageable. I also don't keep the object of my lesson a secret whether it's a phonic skill or a comprehension skill, or just what were going to make sure that we know from the start what the expectations are. I think across the board in reading instruction it's really important to be explicit with our students about what the context of the lesson is and what the criteria for success are. It's also crucial to provide as often as possible multi sensory methods for teaching early reading skills to the extent that is possible you should always provide opportunities for visual kenistetic and auditory reinforcements when your teaching a new concept, and the final thing is that I always want my students to feel successful at the end. Which means that if I'm asking them to read a text, I'm going to start with a pre review of every concept that they might encounter in that text. Whether they are sight words or phonic concepts were going to be prepared to encounter those concepts within the text and decode successfully with that information.

How to teach reading with phonics - 1/12 - The Alphabet & Letter Sounds - Learn English Phonics!

06:09
http://www.englishanyone.com/power-learning/ Learn to express yourself confidently in fluent English and sound like a native speaker with our FREE Power Learning video course! The Sounds of English, a FREE, comprehensive series of 12 videos, teaches phonics and pronunciation to non-native and beginning native learners of English. Learn to spell, read and pronounce English like native speakers with these easy lessons. Great for self-study, or the whole family! Build confidence and get fluent faster! Lesson 1 - The Sounds of English Learn the alphabet, short vowel and consonants sounds, and begin developing great pronunciation. Welcome to The Sounds of English with EnglishAnyone.com! The three primary colors are red, yellow and blue. If you mix these colors, you can create a whole rainbow of new colors. The English alphabet has 26 letters. Mix them correctly and you will be able to spell, read and say the more than 40 different sounds of English. English can be confusing! We know! Why do some letters make different sounds? "On" becomes "one." "One" becomes "phone." And why do different letters make the same sounds? "Newt" and "suit" both share the same "oo" sound. Native speakers can also get confused. We misspell words all the time! But don't worry; If we learned English, anyone can! If you watch these simple, fun lessons, you will learn new words, improve your pronunciation, gain the confidence to speak, and start getting fluent! Because we want you to learn quickly, you won't see every English letter and sound combination in this video series. But, we'll show you some words that break the rules and you'll be learning more than enough to teach yourself English. Now, sit back, relax and start learning! Great pronunciation begins with mastering the alphabet! Letter sounds change, but letter names do not. So, let's learn the alphabet first. Here we go. Please repeat after me. (Repeat alphabet letters) Now, let's forget the names of the letters and learn some sounds. The sounds of English are like music. The vowel sounds are the melody of English. The vowels are A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y. Vowels can make many sounds, but we will teach you the short vowel sounds first. Please repeat the short vowel sounds. (Repeat short vowel sounds) Very good! The other letters of the alphabet are the consonants. These sounds are like the beat in the music of English. ("tuh," "kuh," "sh," "ch") Consonants also make many sounds, but you will learn the short consonants sounds first. You'll hear two sounds for the letters C and G. The hard C sounds like this (kuh). The soft C sounds like this (sss). The hard G sounds like this (guh). The soft G sounds like this (juh). Usually, if the letters A, O or U follow the letters C or G, then C and G make their hard sounds. If the letters E or I follow the letters C and G, then C and G make their soft sounds. Please repeat the short consonant sounds. (Repeat short consonant sounds) Great job! Review this lesson any time! In lesson two, we'll start building words! Lesson Plan 3 The Grouchy Lady Bug by Eric Carl

17:41
Vocabulary Lesson Plan for The Grouchy Lady Bug. Connection to prior learning or background building activity: The teacher will gather the students together on the rug. She will introduce the story. She will have the students point out the parts of the book and answer the following questions: Where is the title? Who is the author? What do we predict this story will be about? Activities, resources, and materials to present new content area knowledge or skill: Prior to starting the book the teacher will pre-teach the vocabulary words by following the seven-step process: 1. Say the word in English and in the primary language of the ELL students. (Show the word printed in both languages on a vocabulary card, also show the illustration). 2. State the word in context from the text. (Read the line of text that the word is used). 3. Provide a definition from the dictionary. (Make sure the definition matches the context in the text). 4. Provide another example of the word in student-friendly terms. 5. Have students repeat the word at least 3 times to build a phonological representation of the word. 6. Have students think-pair-share, for example, “think of a time that you were grouchy, turn to a partner and share”. Have the students turn back to the group and call on students to share out. Have ELL Level 2 student share their example of friendly, (prompt and support as needed). Have Level 4 student share their example of insist (support as needed). 7. Say the word again or the whole sentence where it is found. Repeat for each of the 5 words: Grouchy, Lady Bug, Aphid, Insist, Friendly. Activities, resources, and materials to present new language knowledge or skill: Read the Grouchy Lady Bug to the class, stop and identify vocabulary words. Have students practice reading the words. Activities, resources, and materials to assess or review learning of new language, content, and/or skill: Review the vocabulary words have the students answer questions about the word. Check for understanding for each of the five words: for example “say grouchy if you think this might make you grouchy 1. A friend shares their favorite toy with you. 2. You forgot your coat on a cold day. 3. Which Holds More? Teaching Capacity in Kindergarten and Prek (Early Math Collaborative at Erikson)

04:49
View more in our Early Math Idea Library: https://earlymath.erikson.edu/ideas This video from our Focus on the Lesson series, "Which Holds More?", demonstrates an activity for teaching capacity in kindergarten and preschool. Students look at two containers and try to determine which one would hold more liquid. View more at earlymath.erikson.edu One of the goals from this lesson is to get young students thinking about precise ways to describe their thinking. Many children use general terms—“it’s big!”— when explaining their ideas about measurement. This activity requires children to use more specific words and concepts to clearly explain their thoughts. While one container might be taller, the other might be wider. Because it reinforces strong, precise vocabulary, "Which Holds More?" is a great activity for teaching capacity to English Language Learners. “The language of capacity is difficult for any child but especially English Language Learners,” explains the teacher featured in Part 2 of this lesson. Students are able to practice using these new words, but the concrete objects in the lesson still allow them to fall back to using gesture to communicate their ideas. BIG IDEA: The purpose of collecting data is to answer questions when the answers are not immediately obvious. The most important thing young children can learn about data analysis is why we do it. When they understand that it might be the most effective way to answer a difficult question, they have the piece of information that makes data analysis something they might want to know more about. Knowing the purpose of data analysis motivates children to try it and to try to understand how it works.
