Pollen Sifter Box
A pollen sifter is also known as a Kief Sifter, Shaker Box, Kief Box, or Chicken Pox These are boxes that you toss your weed into and they contain a screen that's used to collect the trichomes of the cannabis plant after shaking it up a bit Cannabis has little crystals called “trichomes” that sit on the plant surface. Those trichomes have all the chemicals such as THC, CBD, and the terpenes that give it its flavor and scent. At room temperature they crystallize and can fall off. So shaking weed across the screen will cause trichomes to get knocked off and fall into the bottom chamber where they can be collected. This is super potent! So think of this stuff as your bonus for shaking up your herb. After a few shaking sessions you’ll accumulate enough pollen to sprinkle over your next bowl or joint, or bone,. You may even want to use something called a pollen press to make bricks of hash the Green Goddess pine sifter box has a holder in the underside of the lid for holding rolling papers and a rolling jig to help you roll easier. It’s got a 100 micron screen and a bottom catch chamber for collecting the pollen. the bottom chamber is lined in tempered glass to make it easy to scrape up the kiefy goodness! Green Goddess has 3 different sizes - a mini for up to 1/4 ounce of herb; a medium sized one for 2-3 times as much; and then our larger pine sifter box - not actually sure how much it holds, but quite a bit more than an ounce. Our mini and mid-sized boxes come in hardwood (walnut) and bamboo. The larger one is made out of pine. 213 - Rubbing Out a High Gloss Finish
For the original post with additional comments, visit our website: http://www.thewoodwhisperer.com/videos/rubbing-out-a-high-gloss-finish/ Would you like to learn how to build the Humidor shown in the video? Go here: https://thewoodwhispererguild.com/members/projects/the-humidor/ One of the biggest challenges woodworkers face is getting a nice smooth blemish-free finish. Let's face it, very few of us have spray booths and our shops are far from ideal finishing environments. It's to be expected that our finish will nearly always have dust and other pieces of debris residing within it. Fortunately, there is a way that just about ANY finish can be improved and it happens well after the final coat is applied. That process is called rubbing out. Rubbing out is nothing more than abrading the surface until it's nice and smooth. Take it to a high enough grit and you'll be polishing the surface to a super high gloss. Stop sooner at a lower grit and you can achieve the perfect semi-gloss, satin, or matte finish. The key to this process is letting the finish cure. Even after a finish dries to the touch, there is an additional period of time before the finish is up to full hardness. The harder the finish, the better it responds to rubbing out. Yes, this terminology is very hard to discuss with a straight face. Anyway, here's a general guideline for wait times. Lacquer, Shellac, Water-Based Finishes: 1 week Oil-Based Varnish: 2 weeks If you want to play it safe, wait 3-4 weeks for all finishes. Since finishes can differ dramatically from brand to brand and formulation to formulation and environmental conditions also play a role, you'll want to err on the side of caution giving the finish plenty of time to cure for best results. Rubbing out is a three-step process that does require some specialized tools and materials. There are also lots of options and alternatives in this arena, so don't be afraid to experiment a bit after doing some additional research on your own. Stage One: Leveling No matter how good a finish looks, it will always have surface imperfections. To level things out, I like to sand by hand using a piece of plywood faced with cork. I use 320 grit wet/dry paper and a bit of soapy water as a lubricant. The soapy water helps prevent sandpaper clogging. Stage Two: Smoothing Once the surface is leveled, we can proceed with abrading the surface with increasingly higher and higher grits. I like to use Festool Platin Abrasives: 500: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VMLPYK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002VMLPYK&linkCode=as2&tag=thewoodwhispe-20 1000: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JQWH4W/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000JQWH4W&linkCode=as2&tag=thewoodwhispe-20 2000: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ZCEJ6C/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002ZCEJ6C&linkCode=as2&tag=thewoodwhispe-20 Unfortunately, it seems you can only get these pads in the large 15-packs which are quite expensive. As an alternative, try Mirka Abralon pads: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BKXWIU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001BKXWIU&linkCode=as2&tag=thewoodwhispe-20 These pads work with standard hook & loop random orbit sanders and do the work of smoothing the surface quickly and efficiently. Once again, soapy water serves as a lubricant. Stage Three: Polishing The final steps of the process bring the surface to a super deep gloss. White there are traditional abrasive powders that you can use for this purpose, like rottenstone and pumice, the newest formulations in automotive rubbing compounds work like a charm. You might want to experiment with various brands but the one I decided on was Menzerna, primarily based on Jeff Jewitt's endorsement of the product. I use two formulations: IP 2000 and SF 4000. To apply the polishing compounds, I use Surbuf pads. These soft foam pads fit right onto standard hook & loop sanders. It's a good idea to dedicate a pad for each specific compound so as to not end up with grit contamination. After the surface is fully polished, you should be left with a deep rich gloss that has no equal, other than French Polishing perhaps. 80 - How to Build a Wooden Picture Frame
Original post on our site with additional comments: http://www.thewoodwhisperer.com/videos/80-nicoles-picture-frame/ About 4 days before Christmas, I started making a nice little picture frame for a custom piece of art I had made up for Nicole from our friend Scott Johnson (http://myextralife.com) A gift for a special girl requires some special wood. So I pulled out my best sheets of curly maple veneer and a couple of sheets of home-sawn afzelia wood (thanks for link Logan!) that I received from David Marks. You may find it odd that I decided to use solid maple as the substrate for the frame. I thought this would be a fun experiment, and when the rabbets are cut in the back, there won't be any unsightly ply to look at (not that it matters that much). Small projects like this are just a great place to experiment with techniques and materials you might not normally use. All the extra effort pays off in the end when the finish hits the wood. Simple to make, marble puzzle
Material for this project requires a 7 3/4" piece of knot free 2X4 material, two 1/2" glass marbles and and a piece of 1/8" X 1 1/4" X 7 3/4" plexiglass. My story with H. Upmann Connoisseur B Cigar Review قصتي مع الاوبمان_كونوسور_ب
H. Upmann is among the oldest cigar brands in existence. In 1843, banker Hermann Dietrich Upmann (b. 16 May 1816 - d. 1894) arrived in Havana, Cuba, to arrange business affairs for the firm of Gravenhorst & Co., an importing/exporting firm located in Bremen, Germany.[1] Seeing the potential for further importing opportunities, Upmann purchased a local cigar factory at 85 San Miguel Street, Havana, and began producing cigars under the H. Upmann brand in 1844.[1] At the same time he began a banking business, initially catering to tobacco dealers and manufacturers.[2][1] Hermann Upmann retired in 1890, and was succeeded by his nephew, Heinrich Upmann, who continued operating the business with his partners Heinrich Runken and Theodore Garbade,[3] until his death in 1914, and was in turn succeeded by Hermann and Albert (Alberto) Upmann, nephews of Heinrich.[1] By 1900, H. Upmann cigar manufacturing had moved to a large building located at 159-169 Paseo de Tacon (later renamed Avenida Carlos III) in Havana, sited between Calle Belascoin and Avenida Carlos III (Tercero). The H. Upmann Bank was at Calle Mercaderes Amargura 1-3 in Havana. A glass jar humidor of H. Upmann Arcadias Claro, believed to be pre-embargo Upmann is sometimes credited with the invention of packaging cigars in cedar boxes to give to their customers. These original boxes were labelled with the H. Upmann name and contained other manufacturers' cigars, most likely as an advertisement for the operation, until the Upmanns bought their own cigar factory in 1844: the famous H. Upmann Factory, now known as the José Martí Factory, in Havana. Through the late 1800s, the H. Upmann brand gained international recognition at various exhibitions and won seven gold medals which still adorn the lithographed art on today's H. Upmann boxes, along with Hermann Upmann's original signature. In North America, Charles Landau became the exclusive agent for H. Upmann cigars for many years.

Cigar Storage 101: How to Store Cigars and Keep Cigars Fresh!
How to Store Cigars with or without a humidor and keep your cigars fresh. Learn the secrets of the proper temperature for storing cigars and the proper humidity for storing cigars. Get your FREE Guide to the Top 10 Cigars Under $5 Here: http://www.cigarjedi.com/subscribe Have you ever wondered how to store cigars? Do you think about what you need to do to keep cigars fresh? You've probably been told you need an expensive cigar humidor to keep your cigars properly humidified, fresh, and safe from mold and cigar beetles. The truth is, you don't need to spend a bunch of money on cigar storage! These cigar storage ideas should give you another option to safely store your cigars so that when you want to smoke a cigar it tastes great! There are 4 basic things that you need for properly humidified cigars and to store cigars safely and properly. An Airtight container Humidity media Hygrometer Cigars For the actual storage device, many people use Tupperware to store cigars. We call these Tupperdors. All you need for this is a Tupperware that seals [close to] air tight, some humidity media (which I'll talk about a bit more in another post), a hygrometer to keep an eye on the RH or Relative Humidity in your tupperdor, and cigars to put inside (so you can smoke them later! Isn't that the whole point?!) Another option to use for storing cigars is a cooler. That's right! You can use a cooler to store cigars! It's called a coolerdor (are you noticing a trend on the nomenclature yet?) and coolerdors allow you to store a large amount of cigars without spending a lot of money on equipment. Coolerdors, because of their larger size require more humidity media but work similar to Tupperware for cigar storage in that it is a relatively air tight container and maintains the proper humidity for keeping cigars fresh. The most obvious option for storing a cigar is a humidor. Cigar humidors come in all shapes, sizes, and price points. You can spend a few bucks on a humidor or you can spend several thousand dollars on one. The point is, why spend all that money on an expensive humidor when you could spend your hard-earned cash on delicious cigars instead?! My favorite option for storing cigars is using a Wineador. This is a wine cooler that has been repurposed to store cigars instead of wine. Storing cigars in a wine cooler is a great option for people who live in hot climates or in climates that experience frequent and drastic changes. For example, I live in Southern California and we can experience temperature swings from 36° F at night, and up to 84° F in the winter during the day and as high as 110° F in the summer! Living close to the coast, we also have Relative Humidity spikes that can bounce from 35% RH to 65% RH within days. This creates a very harsh environment for storing and aging cigars. A Wineador takes care of both of these issue as it regulates the Relative Humidity (RH) and Temperature. I keep mine pegged at 65° F through the winter and summer. Once you decide how to store your cigars you need to make the decision on what RH works best for storing cigars and match your tastes. 70° F and 70% RH is hailed as the "sweet spot" for cigar storage across many "Aficionado" sites; however, while this is within the "safe zone" for storing cigars, it is far from ideal. In fact, many cigars do not smoke well at such a high RH and this level of humidity can cause burn issues, lacking flavor, and even draw issues. You'll need to experiment with your personal ideal RH, I keep my personal Wineador at 65° F and 65% RH for long-term aging and storage, while I keep my desktop humidor at 63% RH and any cigar I plan on smoking I "dry box" for at least a few hours before smoking it to allow the cigar to get close to the ambient temperature and RH, which improves the smoking experience and can prevent issues such as cracking wrappers. So go on, get out there and smoke some good cigars!
