Food Allergies | When to Worry | Parents

01:35
Watch as Parents Magazine shows when to worry about food allergies! Ninety percent of food allergy symptoms are caused by milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, or soy. Within a few minutes to an hour of eating a specific food, your baby could experience the side effects of food allergies. However, it could take days, especially if your breastfeeding baby has a reaction to a food you have eaten. These are the three symptoms to watch for. A skin rash, such as hives, will produce itchy bumps as a classic allergic reaction. Eczema is another common symptom. Consistent diarrhea or vomiting after eating a particular food may mean your baby has a food allergy, but it could also be a sign of an intolerance, which is less serious. Blood-streaked stool is a common indicator of a cow's milk allergy, or lactose intolerance. Lastly, circulation and breathing issues are very serious signs of allergic reactions. Call 911 immediately if he is experiencing anaphylaxis, the most serious food allergy symptom. Luckily, more than 80 percent of allergies to eggs, milk, wheat, and soy fade by age five. Introducing Foods vs Avoiding Foods Allergens

02:52
Dietitian Nicole Meadow and Pediatrician Jay Gordon discuss how to best introduce new foods to avoid your child from developing food allergies. The old mentality was that it was best to wait until a certain age before introducing highly allergenic foods like peanuts and fish to your child. New research shows it’s best to introduce these foods at an early age to prevent developing food allergies, but it’s always best to first discuss this with your pediatrician. An infant can express they have an allergy in many ways, including cholic, blood in their stool, hives, eczema, and diarrhea. Understanding Allergies

01:54
Allergies are the immune system's specific reaction to a normally harmless substance such as pollens, certain foods, or medicines. There are two main types, seasonal and perennial. The seasonal variety occurs at specific times of the year, while the perennial variety can happen year-round. In many cases, successful treatment involves medication, reducing contact with specific allergens, or shots. For videos and more check out http://www.emedtv.com/.

How to avoid food allergies in babies.

01:53
Pediatric Allergist Ron Ferdman provides some insights about food allergens and how to possibly avoid them. The best thing to prevent your baby from developing food allergies is by breastfeeding. Four to six months of breastfeeding has been shown to cut down the number of food allergies a child will develop. Cigarette smoke exposure in utero or when your child is very young can also lead to an allergy, along with alcohol use. The most common presentation of food allergies is within the first year. How to Treat a Severe Allergic Reaction | First Aid Training

01:18
Watch more How to Give First Aid videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/504428-How-to-Treat-a-Severe-Allergic-Reaction-First-Aid-Training So what do you do when you have a severe allergic reaction? Something that's more than just a little itchiness. This is called anaphylaxis. This is where your airway is being impeded. You're swelling from the inside out. You have hives, your face can get big, you can get welts all over your body. You can feel short of breath. You can feel wheezing, like a tight chest. It's very important to get help right away. If you see somebody who's having these symptoms, you call 911 right away. It can be very fatal and it can get there very quickly. If you're in someplace where they have an allergy kit, sometimes they have things like EpiPens or things like that, open the kit. Follow the instructions. Call 911. Get on the line with the dispatcher. They'll help you through, they'll walk you through what you need to do. Stay with that person. Watch their breathing. Watch their pulse. And keep on the line and just wait for the ambulance to come. It is very important for them to get help right away. With a severe allergic reaction people will be choking but it's not the same as if you were to give a Heimlich Maneuver. There's nothing that you can dislodge. It's all their own tissue that's swelling up and obstructing their airflow. You need to get help right away because there are treatments that only a trained professional can do to help this person before it becomes fatal.

12 Infant Nutrition Do's & Don'ts | Baby Development

02:51
Watch more Newborn & Baby Development videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/506145-12-Infant-Nutrition-Dos-and-Donts-Baby-Development All babies are either drinking breast milk or infant formula exclusively until four months of age. We do not recommend starting solid foods before four months of age. Ideally, a breastfed infant will not start solid foods until six months of age. Some formula fed babies do start cereals at four months of age. We recommend starting with a rice cereal and then trying an oatmeal cereal and then the baby can progress to fruits and vegetables. There's not many do's and don'ts. Babies can have most fruits and vegetables. At six months infants who are breastfed usually start eating solids, so their solid schedule's a little bit delayed compared to a formula fed baby, but they're doing the same pattern. We recommend fruits and vegetables, Stage One's, that are blended. If you make it at home it has to be very soupy and blended. At six months of age babies can also do blended meats, depending on the parents. So you can do beef, chicken, turkey, veal, lamb. Those are all very hypoallergenic foods as long as they're blended and mashed for the baby. We do not recommend giving fish to babies at this age because there can be bones in the fish, and also fish is a more allergic food, so I like to start a light flaky fish around nine months of age, and it has to be very mashed to make sure that there's no bones in the fish. Babies cannot have honey until age one. Babies cannot have any kind of peanut or choking nut until age three because they can swallow it whole and aspirate it into their lung. There's a very large range of literature regarding food allergies in babies. So some pediatricians say, “Just give the baby everything. Eggs, milk products, like yogurt and cheese.” From six months there's no studies that show that delaying these foods will prevent food allergies. And some pediatricians still like to stage the introduction of more allergic foods, like yogurts and cheeses, till nine months of age, and start eggs after nine months of age. Some pediatricians recommend separating, and giving the egg yolk first at nine months, and then a week later try the egg white and once you know your baby's not allergic to the egg white and the egg yolk, then you can give the whole egg altogether. Some pediatricians don't like to introduce peanut or nut flavor until after one or two years. I personally, if you don't have a family history of food allergies, I don't mind starting nut flavoring before one year of age, as long as there's no nuts in the food. If I see a baby's had signs of atopic dermatitis, which is eczema or rashes, or been a sensitive child, I might individually design a food schedule for that family to delay highly allergic foods to be introduced later on. Every pediatrician is different. Every family is different. Every culture is different, so it's really important to discuss this with your pediatrician and find out what the best pattern is for your child.

Eat 3 Dates Daily And These 6 Things Will Happen To Your Body !

04:49
Eat 3 Dates Daily And These 6 Things Will Happen To Your Body ! Just like other dried healthy snacks, if you eat dates on a daily basis, you will get tremendous health benefits. But what are they? Dates are an ancient food. Some archeological evidence even suggest they were around as far back as 7000 BC. We also know that this wrinkled, brown fruit has been a staple food in the Middle East for thousands of years and for good reason. To start, dates are chock-full of minerals, vitamins, and health-benefiting phytonutrients. They contain copper, iron, potassium, magnesium, manganese, a slew of B vitamins including vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), niacin, pantothenic acid, and riboflavin. They also contain good amounts of vitamins A and K and the carotenes, lutein and zeaxanthin. They are also high in fiber, which is very beneficial for helping your body remove toxins in an easy and effective manner. Many studies have been done on the health benefits of people who eat dates. One 2003 study in particular that was published in the International Journal of Food, Sciences and Nutrition even suggests that “dates may be considered as an almost ideal food, providing a wide range of essential nutrients and potential health benefits.” This study concluded that dates contain at least 15 minerals, including selenium, an element that many researchers now believe is a powerful anti-cancer agent and a potent immune booster. It also showed that dates contains 23 types of amino acids and some pretty good unsaturated fatty acids such as palmitoleic, oleic, linoleic, and linolenic acids. And you don’t have to eat a ton of dates to benefit from them. In fact, just eating 3 dates a day can produce some pretty amazing results. 1. Quick energy boost. Eating dates can provide you with a safe and effective energy boost. They are just what you need when you hit that 3 pm low. So instead of drinking an energy drink, try to eat dates. Plus, munching on them burns calories and makes you more alert. The dietary fiber in dates will keep you energized for longer and help you avoid the dreaded “sugar-crash” that comes with other sweet snacks. 2. Improve Your Digestion. Dates are especially high soluble fibers. Soluble fiber draws water from you’re your digestive tract, which is why your grandmother probably told you to eat a few dates when things got a little “backed-up.” Ironically, dates are also helpful with diarrhea as they help balance your digestive tract. Eating a few dates is a fast and effective way to relieve any gut discomfort because they help improve good bacteria in your digestive tract. 3. Boost Immunity and Strengthen Your Bones. As mentioned, dates are rich in magnesium, copper, maganese, and selenium and as studies show, selenium is widely known to help prevent cancer. Dates are also a superfood for strengthening bones and fighting off diseases like osteoporosis. They are particularly good as you begin to age and your bones gradually weaken. 4. Balance Iron levels in Anemia. Anemia is more widespread than you might think and is usually a direct result of the typical western diet. Dates are full of iron and as such, an excellent food source to help balance out these levels in anemic patients, ultimately increasing their overall energy and strength. 5. Keep Your Heart Healthy. There is a lot of evidence now that dates are good for your heart, especially if you soak then overnight and then crush them before you eat them first thing in the morning. The high levels of potassium are excellent for your heart and have been shown in studies to help reduce the risk of stroke and other heart-related diseases. We also know that this sweet brown fruit is a wonderful help in reducing the bad cholesterol, which doctors say is a big factor in heart issues such as heart attacks and strokes. 6. Relieve Allergies. Dates also contain high levels of organic sulfur, which is known to be helpful for reducing allergic reactions. According to a 2002 study, organic sulfur compounds can help relieve the number and intensity of symptoms from SAR (Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis). Thank you for watching. please like, comment, subscribe and share with your friends and family.

Cow’s Milk Allergy: When It’s Not Just Fussy Feeding

03:08
https://introwellness.com/baby/cows-milk-allergy/ Does your baby get sick after feeding? Are they having a hard time tolerating your breast milk or formula? If so, they may have a cow’s milk allergy. A cow’s milk allergy is an allergy that develops early on in your baby’s life. In fact, symptoms may occur as soon as your baby starts drinking formula or breast milk. However, don’t confuse this allergy with lactose intolerance. They’re not the same thing. A cow’s milk allergy is different than lactose intolerance because it occurs when your body’s defense system, or immune system, doesn’t recognize the protein in cow’s milk. In response, your body starts to attack the protein when you eat it. It’s important for this immune system reaction to be properly diagnosed early on because it can be harmful to your baby. In this video, I will teach you about signs of a cow’s milk allergy, when to see a doctor, and recommended treatment options. First off, you may notice symptoms of a cow’s milk allergy as soon as your baby drinks formula or breast milk. On the other hand, it’s very possible that symptoms may be delayed several hours or days. Common signs of a cow’s milk allergy include an upset stomach (with spit-ups), vomiting, and normal or bloody diarrhea. Also, your baby may experience skin problems (like rashes, red spots, or swollen and itchy eyes) or breathing problems (like coughing, wheezing, increased phlegm, hoarse cry, or throat tightness). If your child has any of these symptoms, make an appointment with your pediatrician right away! Especially since their symptoms can worsen every time your baby is exposed to this protein. To confirm their diagnosis, your doctor may order stool and blood tests. They may also refer you to an allergist for more testing and to confirm if your baby has other allergies. If your baby drinks formula, your doctor will recommend a very easily digestible formula for the first year of life, also called a hypoallergenic formula. These formulas have milk proteins that are completely broken down. As a result, your baby’s immune system will not react to them. Also, cow’s milk allergy symptoms are less common in breastfed infants. But, unfortunately, some babies still do react. If you are breastfeeding, the cow’s milk protein you eat can reach your baby through your breast milk. As a result, you’ll need to eliminate all cow’s milk protein from your diet. This includes milk, cheese, yogurt, and any food products that are made with cow’s milk. Fortunately, you can find cow’s milk products by reviewing the ingredients list on your food labels. Other types of milk (like rice, almond, goat, or coconut milk) may be appropriate for older children, but are still not safe for children less than 1 years old. Overall, some children grow out of their milk allergy while others have to avoid cow’s milk for their entire life! If your child is diagnosed with this allergy, it’s important to work closely with your doctor and registered dietitian to make sure your child is meeting all of their nutrition needs without cow’s milk and to determine a safe feeding plan that works for you and your family.

How to introduce peanuts to a baby

02:17
How do you safely introduce peanuts to a baby? At Sage Hill Pediatrics in Atlanta, registered nurse Laura Balgari says you want to first find out if your baby might be at higher-risk of a peanut allergy. Children with a family history, severe eczema, which is an itchy skin rash, or an allergy to eggs are more likely to have a peanut allergy. "With a baby we definitely want to consider a family history of allergies,” says Balgari. “I always tell parents, if you're introducing a new food that you have any concerns about, make sure you have Benadryl on hand." Balgari says never feed babies peanut butter, which can be thick and hard to swallow, or whole peanuts. Both are choking hazards. “You want something small that won't block the airway,” she says. So, use either watered- down peanuts mixed into a warm puree, or try a peanut-based toddler snack. At Sage Hill, Balgari recommends an air-puff peanut snack called “Bamba.” “It's is basically made out of peanuts, puffed air and oil," she says. "It's safe because it's airy, it melts in the mouth. So that's a pretty safe way to start." Go slowly, introducing just one new food at a time. Watch for signs of an allergic reaction, like hives, a skin rash, difficulty breathing or a change in behavior. In new guidelines, the National Institutes of Health is recommending parents of higher-risk babies begin introducing peanut-products at between 4 and 6 months of age. Children considered lower risk, should begin eating peanut-based foods at about 6 months, after they have started eating solid foods. "If you have real serious concerns and a strong family history, we actually suggest introducing the food in our office, and we have a an allergy challenge that takes about a half hour,” she says. If you are worried your child might have a reaction, talk to your pediatrician about the safest way to introduce peanuts. You may want to have your child experience that first taste in the doctor’s office, rather than your home.

6 Steps to Heal Leaky Gut and Autoimmune Disease Naturally

05:47
Leaky gut syndrome is a condition that millions of people have, and don’t even know it. From the sound of it, you might think leaky gut syndrome only hurts the digestive system, but it can lead to many other health conditions. Think of the lining of your digestive tract like a net with very small holes in it that only lets some things pass through. Your gut lining works as a wall to keep out the bigger pieces that can harm your system. When someone has leaky gut, the “net” in the digestive tract gets damaged, which causes bigger holes to form in the net, so things that usually can’t pass through are now able to. Some of the things that can now pass through are proteins like gluten, bad bacteria, and undigested food pieces. Toxic waste can also leak from the inside of your intestinal wall into your bloodstream, causing an immune reaction. This leads to swelling throughout your system and causes things like: Bloating Food sensitivities Thyroid conditions Fatigue Joint pain Headaches Skin issues Digestive problems Weight gain Syndrome X If left unfixed, it can lead to worse health problems like inflammatory bowel disease (IBS), arthritis, eczema, psoriasis, depression, anxiety, migraine headaches, muscle pain, and chronic fatigue. Leaky gut syndrome has been linked to other psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. So, in many cases, if you can heal the gut, you can heal the brain. Studies show that the cause of your food allergies, low energy, joint pain, thyroid disease, autoimmune conditions, and slow metabolism could be leaky gut symptom spreading through your body. Another problem with leaky gut is that it can stop important minerals and nutrients, like zinc, iron, and vitamin B12, from being taken in. There are four main causes of leaky gut, including: 1. Poor Diet Foods that have a lot of lectins are a bigger problem. Some of the lectins and foods that cause leaky gut are wheat, rice, spelt, and soy. While you are trying to cure leaky gut, stay away from all grains, especially those that contain gluten like wheat. Cow’s milk is another food that can cause leaky gut. The component of dairy that will harm your gut is the protein A1 casein. Also, the pasteurization process will kill important enzymes, making sugars like lactose very hard to digest. Sugar is another thing that can harm your digestive system. Sugar will feed the growth of yeast, candida, and bad bacteria, which will hurt your gut even more. 2. Chronic Stress Stress weakens your immune system over time, which ruins the body’s power to fight bad bacteria and viruses. This leads to swelling and leaky gut. To lessen stress, it’s a good idea to get more sleep, add fun into your week, and practice meditation. 3. Toxins We meet up with over 80,000 chemicals and toxins every single year, but the ones that cause leaky gut are antibiotics, pesticides, tap water, aspirin, and anti-inflammatory drugs. 4. Dysbiosis One of the main causes of leaky gut is a condition called dysbiosis, which means uneven levels of good and bad bacteria in your gut. Using too much prescription antibiotic drugs, tap water with chlorine and fluoride, and the lack of probiotic- rich foods adds to the unevenness of good and bad bacteria. If you have leaky gut syndrome, you should think of trying a leaky gut diet. Here are six foods and supplements to heal your leaky gut. #1 Bone Broth #2 Raw Cultured Dairy #3 Fermented Vegetables #4 Coconut Products #5 Sprouted Seeds #6 Supplements If you like the video, give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends! 3 things you should know when introducing solid foods to your baby

00:40
Here's 3 things you should know about introducing solid foods to your baby. Number one, most babies are ready between 4 to 6 months of life, but it's always a good idea to talk with your pediatrician first to make sure that your baby's ready. Number 2, a lot of parents think that you have to start with rice cereal, but you can actually start with fruits or veggies. It's just good to wait 2 to 5 days between each introduction to make sure your baby doesn't have an allergy. And number 3, start with one meal each day, and slowly work your baby's way up to eating breakfast, lunch, dinner, and 2 snacks, which usually happens around 8 months of age.
