ASPR/NSRI State Department Drill
Nebraska Medicine/UNMC and NSRI Playing Major Role In Highly Infectious Patient Transport Training Exercise U.S. State Dept. Training Exercise of mock-patients with highly infectious disease involves 5 aircraft and 11 mock patients The Nebraska Biocontainment Unit was one of five treatment centers that received patients during a practice drill organized by the U.S. State Department that officially began Monday morning. During “Operation Tranquil Shift,” a total of 11 American citizens suspected of having or having been exposed to a simulated highly infectious disease were transported from Africa to the United States for treatment. Three mock-patients arrived from Africa at Eppley Airfield Wed., April 12, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Two patients arrived separately in one of two Gulfstream jets operated by Phoenix Air for the U.S. State Department. A third patient didn’t make the trip from Africa, but was also transported to the Biocontainment Unit. A total of four aircraft (the two Gulfstreams which came to Omaha and two 747s) departed Atlanta, GA, and traveled to Freetown, Sierra Leone. Once patients were retrieved, all aircraft landed at the Washington-Dulles Airport to clear customs before continuing on to one of five receiving facilities across the country, including Bellevue Hospital Center in Manhattan, Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, Denver Health Medical Center in Denver, and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Once patients were transferred to ground ambulance teams, the aircraft departed for the next receiving facility or returned to Georgia for decontamination. The scope of this exercise is unprecedented, and a testament to the lessons learned and changes made in the aftermath of the Ebola outbreak. “This was the next logical step in planning and preparing to transport a large number of patients with a highly infectious disease,” said Shelly Schwedhelm, MSN, RN, executive director of emergency preparedness and infection prevention at Nebraska Medicine. “In November of 2016, we successfully transported three patients to the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit on one 747. We’re applying what we learned during the November drill to make even further improvements during this larger national exercise.” The University of Nebraska National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI) works closely with the U.S. State Department to facilitate these transport exercises. "NSRI has assisted the State Department to develop the scenarios and develop a process for improving the transport and patient care process during transit." said Eric Van Gieson, Chief Technology Officer for NSRI. Two members of the NSRI team were observers onboard the aircraft coming to Omaha and spoke to the media at Eppley Airfield. The NSRI is one of 13 DoD authorized University Affiliated Research Centers in the nation. Established in 2012, NSRI is a long-term, strategic partner of its Department of Defense (DoD) sponsor, the U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM). Along with the agencies previously mentioned, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Douglas County 911, Douglas County Emergency Management, Omaha Fire Department, Omaha Airport Authority, Douglas County Health Department and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services all took part in the drill.

Man Drives Truck Into Plane at Nebraska Airport
According to authorities, a man wearing only underwear stole a pickup truck and then drove it into a Southwest Airlines plane at a Omaha, Nebraska airport, causing minor injuries to three people on board the aircraft. Police added in a statement that the man is in custody. His name however, has not yet been released. Southwest spokesman Chris Mainz told CBS News Friday morning that 20 passengers were on the plane when the truck hit it. The impact from the truck ended up flattening the plane’s nose gear tires, causing the airline to get another aircraft to fly the passengers to the city of Denver, three hours later than originally scheduled. ►Circle us on Google + http://goo.gl/TXeBfX ►Subscribe Channel http://goo.gl/mqt0wI ►Don't forget to Like * Comment * Share this video. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stay tuned, Stay connected

Lufthansa Strike Grounds Hundreds of Flights
Bad news for travelers planning to take Lufthansa in the near future. Cabin crew for the airline kicked off a second round of strikes today over pay and conditions, causing the company to cancel hundreds of flights. This follows a walk-out on Friday, which left about 26,000 passengers stranded. Lufthansa is Germany's biggest airline, and the second-largest European airline. Trade union UFO, which represents about 2/3 of Lufthansa's 18,000 cabin crew members, threatened full day walkouts as well as striking into the autumn or winter if workers don't get a 5% pay increase and guarantees against temporary workers and outsourcing. Lufthansa, which is trying to implement a $1.9 billion savings program, has offered a 3.5% pay increase, and says it will not raise its offer from there. This wage dispute has gone on for 13 months. The cancellations, which grounded around 350 of the company's 1,800 daily flights, will mostly affect service in Europe, but also carry over into places like Chicago and L.A. If the strike expands, it could cost the company over 12 million euros a day, or around 2 percent of full-year operating costs, according to Bloomberg. Lufthansa's stock fell 1.8 percent in Frankfurt on this news in midday trading.

NBC News Freelancer 'Enormously Relieved' To Be In U.S.
According to his parents at news conference on Monday, the freelance NBC News cameraman who was diagnosed in Liberia with the Ebola virus is scared but “enormously relieved” to have arrived at a Nebraska hospital for treatment. Ashoka Mukpo, the sixth American to be infected with the virus that has killed more than 3,500 people in west Africa, walked onto and off the jet that took him from Liberia to Omaha, where he was whisked to Nebraska Medical Center by ambulance Monday morning. Doctors at the Nebraska Medical Center, which successfully treated American doctor Rick Sacra for Ebola, said they have not decided on a treatment plan. http://feeds.nbcnews.com/c/35002/f/663303/s/3f2bcdac/sc/6/l/0L0Snbcnews0N0Cstoryline0Cebola0Evirus0Eoutbreak0Cnbc0Efreelancer0Eashoka0Emukpo0Eenormously0Erelieved0Ebe0Enebraska0En219426/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

Storm blankets Midwest in snow, creeps toward Northeast
YOUR DESCRIPTION HAS REACHED THE LIMIT OF CHARACTERS ALLOWED AND WAS CUT. MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- A slow-moving winter storm blanketed a large swath of the Plains and Midwest in snow Sunday, forcing the cancellation of more than 1,500 flights, making roads treacherous and forcing some people to rethink their plans to attend Super Bowl parties. Blizzard conditions developed in Chicago ‚€ where more than a foot was expected by evening ‚€ and other Midwest locales as the system slowly crept eastward into Pennsylvania and western New York state. Parts of New England still digging out from a storm early last week were bracing for yet another round of snow to arrive Sunday and last through Monday. Here's the outlook: ___ THE STORM The snowstorm was expected to be the most far-reaching of the season to date, stretching from Nebraska to Maine, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters also said the storm was moving unusually slowly, meaning accumulations of between 10 to 14 inches of snow are possible for parts of northern Illinois, Indiana and northwest Ohio. Similar amounts of snow are expected for the Northeast later Sunday and throughout Monday. "It's not wise to travel, unless you have an emergency," said David Beachler a National Weather Service meteorologist in Chicago. Craig Owens, an English professor at Drake University, was one of the many Midwest residents who spent the morning shoveling their driveways. "I'm not going to make it the gym anyway, so I've got to get a workout somehow," said Owens, whose home in Des Moines, Iowa, got about 10 inches of snow. ___ TRAVEL AND OUTAGES More than 1,500 flights were canceled in the Midwest, the vast majority of which were flights in or out of Chicago's two airports. Chicago's Department of Aviation said about 1,100 departing flights were canceled from O'Hare International Airport and 200 at Midway International Airport. At Detroit Metropolitan Airport, nearly 200 departing flights were canceled, and more delayed. About 20 flights were canceled from Omaha's Eppley Airfield. The winds ‚€ gusts up to 45 mph were expected in the Chicago area ‚€ made road travel tricky too. The Illinois Department of Transportation dispatched 350 trucks to clear and salt Chicago-area roadways through the evening and ahead of Monday's morning rush hour. In eastern Nebraska, several sections of Interstate 80 were closed Sunday due to traffic accidents in the icy conditions. The weather led to power outages Sunday, including roughly 18,000 ComEd customers in the Chicago metro area. The weather cut power to nearly 8,000 northern Indiana homes and businesses. ___ SUPER BOWL PARTY SPOILER? The most intense period of snow in the Midwest was expected to hit Sunday evening, right around game time, meaning the roads could be treacherous for those heading to Super Bowl parties. Potential wind gusts of up to 40 mph were expected, so drivers could face terrible visibility and snarling snow drifts. Several of the Chicago area's top tourist attractions closed early Sunday because of the weather, including the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and Brookfield Zoo. The city's pizzerias, though, were expecting heavy demand for deliveries during the game. And bars hosting Super Bowl parties said they wouldn't let the weather spoil their plans. Kathi Kreger, manager at Brendan's Pub, a Patriots' bar on the city's North Side, said locals would still trudge through the snow for the festivities. "We're used to this," she said. In the southeastern Wisconsin city of New Berlin, meanwhile, sports bar Matty's Bar

X-Plane 11 -- Eclipse 550 NG -- Twentynine Palms (KTNP) ➡ Palm Springs (KPSP)
Short flight from Twentynine Palms to Palm Springs in the Eclipse 550 NG payware model by Aerobask. This is a really nice model and is extremely clean and detailed so for sure worth a chance. Has a vast array of custom features and config options so thios model should keep you happy and busy for a while. I personally don't consider this my favorite GA/VIP aircraft but I would say as far as the jet powered class goes then yes it would be very close to number one in that regard. The departure airport (KTNP) is a payware scenery package but the destination airport (KPSP) is a default already in XP11. I would only recommend the KTNP package if you already are familiar with that local or you specifically want the "desert/hot" conditions challenge because otherwise it is literally in the middle of nowhere.
