Today, we're going to talk about and bust the myth on "Is magnesium stearate toxic for your health?" So, I like watching that program called Mythbusters. Do you watch that sometimes where these two crazy guys blow up things and do insane things? I reckon it's a pretty cool program. I'm going to destroy a myth today about how some people believe that magnesium stearate is poisonous and toxic and destroys your health and causes cancer and all this sort of crap that I read online. Stearic acid is actually a naturally occurring fat found in most fatty products. All animal fats. Coconut fat. Cocoa fat. If you're a person who's really worried to the point where you can't sleep at night because there's magnesium stearate in a dietary supplement, then please also avoid anything with fat in it. All animal products. Coconut fat. Any kind of fat at all. No chocolate anymore. All that stuff's taken out because all of that will contain a kind of stearic acid in it. Stearic acid is the immediate precursor to oleic acid, which is found in coconut oil. If you're having coconut oil, please stop it. You'll die a horrible death. If you're so petrified about mag. stearate, you need to carefully think what you're petrified about. Maybe you're getting hyped up by people who claim it is toxic based on stupid advice because it is not a toxic thing at all. Magnesium stearate found in dietary supplements is usually six to eight percent magnesium oxide, so it is magnesium bound to stearic acid. It's used as a lubricant. I used to work a long time ago for a dietary supplement company in America with a crazy guy who ran the show. Absolute lunatic of a guy who came up with all these false claims. He was one of the first people to spread this claim about mag. stearate. When I started to really research it carefully, I realized that this was a stupid claim to make. It was basically a claim that was perpetuated by a capsule manufacturer to try and annihilate all of his competitors who made tablets. This particular person started spreading rumors that mag. stearate is toxic and poisonous. Funny thing is this person was a huge wine drinker and had huge marital problems and a lot of issues himself. So, you be careful about what you hear online and why it's being spread. It may actually be a load of crap. As they say, "Be careful about reading health books because you may die of a misprint." Don't believe everything you read online. Mag. stearate is a perfectly normal and easily degradable kind of fat in your digestive system. Unless you’ve got cirrhosis of the liver and you're drinking a bottle of whiskey a day, which I don't think you're doing, you may have issues with fats. Stearate is required as a lubricant. If we don't use stearate in tablets for example, we can't compress tablets properly, we can't coat them, machines gum up. They stick. We can only put half as much in a tablet, which means you've got to take twice as many tablets at a higher cost with a less effectiveness. If you think that stearates are toxic, then please tell me right now that you're only going to eat rice and nothing but rice because everything else has got some kind of fat in it. Then you can bet your bottom dollar there will be some type of stearic acid in any kind of fatty product that you eat. Please don't believe this kind of crap that you read online. I wrote a big article, which I've often emailed out to people. My CanXida tablet formulations contain magnesium stearate. Stearate's been used in tablet manufacturing now for as long as tablets have been made. Please don't let people tell you it's toxic. The US Pharmacopeia has given it the GRAS rating, which is generally regarding as safe. The GRAS rating is pretty darn hard to get hold of if something has got even the slightest possibility of being toxic. Any GNP manufacturer who works with very high manufacturing procedures will use mag. stearates in a tablet formation. Remember, it was a clever marketing ploy designed to assassinate anyone who sells tablets or market tablets. It's designed by a person who's anal about capsules. The funny thing is the capsules the person was pushing at the time were bovine, so no good for vegans. You be careful about the kind of advice that you take from people. As I say, please don't die of misprints if you read something that may not be the way it should be.

Immunology published a study which showed that stearic acid could suppress the activity of our natural killer cells, T cells, and thus cause “ a loss of membrane potential and ultimately cell function and viability.” It is in fact sourced from hydrogenated oils like cottonseed oil, and it is often rich in pesticide residue, as it is genetically engineered. Titanium dioxide. This is a common pigment in vitamins and supplements, and the exposure to it can weaken the immune system. “Titanium dioxide has recently been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as an IARC Group 2B carcinogen ‘possibly carcinogen[ic] to humans,’” explains the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health & Safety on its website. “This evidence showed that high concentrations of pigment-grade (powdered) and ultrafine titanium dioxide dust caused respiratory tract cancer in rats exposed by inhalation and intratracheal instillation.” Carrageenan. A warning issued by the Cornucopia Institute, a highly-effective food activism group, warns that it causes “gastrointestinal inflammation, including higher rates of colon cancer, in laboratory animals.” It also leads to gastrointestinal symptoms (spastic colon, irritable bowel syndrome/IBS, chronic diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, etc.), so you must avoid it in order to stay safe. Silicon dioxide. It is in fact just common sand, but it is used as an expensive filler, with the aim to make the bottle weigh more, and thus give the impression that it is of higher quality. Artificial colors. Artificial colors are related to various issues, from cancer to hyperactivity in children. Can you tell me why you should not take vitamins? All I hear is contradictory stories about why it is good and bad for you. There are people who waste $200 or more a month on useless supplements. By stopping the supplements, they save a lot of money. And yet doctors prescribe prenatal vitamins to every pregnant woman who walks in the door. In the case of pregnancy, women need more iron and B vitamins but rarely get enough. The leafy green vegetables and red meat that are good sources are exactly what gives many of them severe morning sickness. What about the rest of us? If you are eating a balanced diet, you don't need a multivitamin. If you aren't sure, drink an Ensure or other meal replacement drink. How long have they been saying vitamins are useless? Guys who pump out porta-potties often remark about all the pebbles at the bottom that used to be multivitamins. Some doctors still say we need to take vitamins. Unfortunately, some doctors make money selling supplements to their patients. A few unscrupulous ones make money selling supplements that patients can't afford. Is it really that much money? Vitamins generate tens of billions in sales. Are all vitamins a waste? Vitamin D supplements aren't a waste if you don't get enough sunlight or drink a lot of milk to get it. I've heard that supplements can have negative side effects. So can medications. But there are too many people who take vitamins hoping to reverse chronic conditions, not realizing that it can't do anything other than cure malnutrition. Vegetarians take pounds of supplements. Except for B12, which vegans can't get unless they eat animal products like milk, vegetarians and vegans don't have to take supplements. All of which is cured by a glass of milk or enriched almond milk.

Fun to sample the different creams and treats they offer! As always, I give them the third degree when it comes to supplements - Any fillers? Preservatives? Who is manufacturing them? etc Sadly, most of these products say they are 'Natural' or 'Organic' but that's really stretching it. Only one company told me that I could eat their suntan lotion because it was perfectly safe. (I didn't, but at least the ingredients all looked pure!) What's the deal? How can they call something natural yet still have all kinds of fillers and binders that are really very toxic to your body?! I'll tell you the key questions you have to ask yourself before you EVER put any supplement in your mouth, but first... Let's go through that checklist now to see the 3 ways to see if your supplements are safe... #1 Synthetic vs Natural Vitamins " Americans spend over $9 billion per year for synthetic vitamins" Let me get a bit scientific with you here folks to explain the difference between synthetic and natural vitamins... Vitamins are not individual molecular compounds. Vitamins are biological complexes. They are multi-step biochemical interactions and their action is dependent upon a number of variables. Vitamin activity only takes place when all conditions are met within that environment, and when all co-factors and components of the entire vitamin complex are present and working together. Vitamin activity is even more complex; it also involves timing. Vitamins can't be isolated from their complexes and still perform their specific life functions within the cells. When isolated into artificial commercial forms, like ascorbic acid, these purified synthetics act as drugs in the body. They are no longer vitamins, so technically can't be called that! I'm going old school here, because what you read on the internet is so inaccurate about vitamins its not funny. A vitamin is "a working process consisting of the nutrient, enzymes, coenzymes, antioxidants, and trace minerals activators." Bottom line? Unless a vitamin comes from a FOOD source, you have a synthetic product. This synthetic product is then considered a TOXIN to your body. This works against you, not for you! #2 Magnesium stearate or Stearic Acid = Dangerous! This is added just to keep the vitamin machines from sticking! It's like a flow agent, plus it keeps the vitamins in the bottle from sticking together. So what's the problem? It can't hurt you...or can it??? Research has shown that stearic acid, which is the substance added to magnesium ion to make this compound, SUPPRESSES your T cells - what are T cells? Your natural killer cells - they kill the toxins that don't belong in your body and are a SUPER important part of your immune system. This research study showed that stearic acid can actually collapse the cell membrane wall. So think about it - if the walls of your house collapse, what happens to your house? The whole house collapses! So if your cell walls are down, it destroys your cells ability to function. Serious stuff folks! Get rid of any and ALL supplements that have magnesium stearate! #3 Is it a 'Food Based' Supplement? There are about 110 companies who sell vitamins in the US. Less than 5 of them use whole food vitamins. The reason is simple: whole food vitamins are expensive to make. A few of the largest pharmaceutical firms in the world mass produce synthetic vitamins for the vast majority of these 110 "vitamin" companies, who then put their own label on them, and every company claims theirs is the best! It's ridiculous! To differentiate supplement product, each makes claims of "high potency." Our vitamins are higher potency than theirs, etc. The point is, the higher the potency, the more the drug-like effects are present. Natural whole food vitamins are very low potency.. Low potency is all we need. Low potency is enough to bring about vitamin activity. A HIGH quality Food-based supplement I recommend is this one. In our daily diets, it can be difficult to get every single vitamin and mineral necessary and that is why at times it is beneficial to take supplements. Fish Oil is beneficial because it has been shown to decrease inflammation in the body. It has also been shown to lower triglycerides and decrease the chance of heart disease. We get many omega-6 fatty acid from chicken, pork, and steak and not enough omega-3 fatty acid. A ratio of 2:1 or 1:1 omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acid is optimal for proper health and this is why fish oil can help. Vitamin D is important for the regulation of calcium and phosphorus absorption, maintenance of healthy bones and teeth, and is suggested to supply a protective effect against multiple diseases and conditions such as cancer, type 1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis. We get vitamin D from the sun but for all of us who work or may not have the chance to be outside during the winter taking vitamin d can help. It is estimated 70% of people are vitamin d deficient. Go to your doctor, get a blood test, and find out if you should be taking a vitamin d supplement. Magnesium L Threonate Helps Increase Energy. It also has been shown to Calms Nerves & Anxiety. I'm going to talk about what it really does, the benefits and the negatives. In the world of plants cellulose provides strength to cell walls. It's a carbohydrate and some animals can digest it, but we humans we can't. What this means is that it's a fiber. For some some people it's difficult to understand how something we can't digest can be so good for us. I'm sure you know fiber is healthy right? It helps with weight loss by making you feel full, it helps with digestion, reducing blood sugar, cholesterol and more. Even so most people don't consume enough fiber. WebMD recommends adults get around 30 grams a day. Some people estimate that the average person in the U.S. gets 15 grams a day. Adding cellulose to food increases the fiber content without a big influence on the taste. Another reason it's added is to provide bulk to food, but not increase the calories. Of course sometimes they add sugar to it and that is different. When you see diet foods there is a good chance it will have cellulose in it. Another great use for it is to thicken a liquid say like a sauce. For example do you like watery spaghetti sauce? No and it can be used to make spaghetti sauce thick, as well as other sauces. It can be used in ice cream to thicken it as well as whipped cream. At this point you might be wondering why is it in dietary supplements. It's there for a very similar reason as why it's in food. It can be used to combine vitamins and bulk up some that are liquid. It can be used to make it easier to swallow. Of course considering how big some supplement pills are maybe they are adding too much cellulose right? It can also be used to protect the nutrients just like how it protects the cells of plants. We got some crazy stuff floating around the air and when air comes into contact with vitamins or herbal ingredients it can degrade the quality of it. This is one reason liquid supplements usually are not that good. Some companies market liquid supplements that they are better for absorption. According to consumer reports this is not true and from various tests the absorption rates are the same for liquid supplements and pills. Another negative with liquid supplements is that well you can’t put enteric coating on them and a lot of stuff gets destroyed by stomach acid. But hey, it's liquid right? Let's talk about the negatives. The biggest risk to consuming cellulose really comes down to eating too much. The signs of this could be constipation, having lots of gas, feeling bloated, being dehydrated because it absorbs water and ironically you could have diarrhea and even weight gain.

These toxins go into the bloodstream causing a variety of health hazards and adverse effects in the way the body functions. In order for the liver to optimize its functionalities, the liver needs to be cleansed and flushed out on a regular bases to avoid stagnation or left over toxins . A clean liver means a better you and helps you to eliminate more toxic materials from the body. Before we do a liver cleanse it is often recommended to first detox our colon and kidneys before doing a liver detox to avoid the symptoms of detox, and to avoid the toxins from shifting to other parts of our body. We recommend a full body detox to get rid of all the toxins from all the internal organs at once. Secondly, is to use a castor oil pack. The way to do castor oil pack is to put the castor oil on a soft cloth, and hold it over the liver for about 45 minutes, covered with a hot water bottle. The third tip is to increase the number of green leafy vegetables in the diet, these greens are usually bitter and help to get rid of toxins from the body. Some examples of bitter greens are Dandelion greens, Bok choy, and swiss chard which help to detoxify the liver. Number four on the list is the use of herbs that helps the body to eliminate all kinds of toxins from the body.
