Side effects for this antibiotic are worse than infections it's prescribed for
The FDA just announced that it will require more warnings on the label for a class of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones because the side effects they cause are worse than the actual infections they are commonly prescribed for. Side effects include permanent muscle and nerve damage, when the infections they're prescribed for usually clear up on their own, without the need of any medication. Athletic people often face upper respiratory infections and other medical illnesses. Occasionally they need antibiotics to treat these infections. While it can be safe to exercise or play sports while taking antibiotics, there are some concerns worth discussing with your doctor. The concern that has received the most attention is the risk of tendon rupture. Fluoroquinolones, including ciprofloxacin (Cipro) and levofloxacin (Levaquin), are often used to treat urinary infections. These antibiotics have been associated with increased risks of tendon ruptures. Antibiotic-associated diarrhea can occur when you take antibiotics. These medications can alter the normal bacteria in the G.I. system. In order to decrease your chance of having diarrhea, your doctor can keep the duration of antibiotic treatment as short as possible that still eliminates the infection. Antibiotics that have been linked to photosensitivity are a concern for anyone who plays outdoor sports or exercises outside. Tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones and sulfa drugs are believed to carry this risk. It is possible that you could develop a serious sunburn on body parts exposed to the sun or have an increased risk of skin cancer if you use these medications. Theoretically you should avoid these antibiotics or use sunscreen and wear fully protective clothing. By no means does this list of concerns represent medical advice. If you have an infection and require antibiotic treatment, you should ask the doctor about possible complications with those drugs, especially as they pertain to exercise and sports. Please remember, while I appreciate your questions, I cannot and will not offer specific medical advice by email, online, on my show, or in the comments at the end of these posts. My responses are meant to provide general medical information and education. Please consult your physician or health care provider for your specific medical concerns.

Ep042 Safety and Infection Control Accident Prevention Assess for allergies and intervene as needed
View full blog post at: http://www.nrsng.com/ep042-safety-infection-control-accident-prevention-assess-allergies-intervene-needed Get the Free Download with all episodes at: http://www.nrsng.com/nclexprep Important to ask about all allergies, not just medication allergies Some medications may have ingredients from different foods in their coating or capsules Must ask about allergies to IV dyes or contrast Ask about all food, environmental, and medication allergies Ensure this is charted appropriately Make sure to chart what happens when the patient has a medication Is it a true allergy, or is it an adverse reaction? Example: “I’m allergic to morphine because it makes me tired,” or “I’m allergic to aspirin because it upsets my stomach”... those are adverse reactions, not allergies. This is especially important with antibiotics. Patients may say they’re allergic to something, but when you ask further about specifics it’s really an intolerance. Know what to do if there’s an allergic reaction Follow hospital’s policies/procedure Most likely notify MD and give meds, depending on severity of reaction Make sure the allergy is added to the chart, after patient is addressed and clinically stable Tired of professors who don't seem to care, confusing lectures, and taking endless NCLEX® review questions? . . . Urinary Tract Infections
Urinary tract infections, or cystitis, are an incredibly common reason why women go to the doctor. Approximately one third of all women experience at least one episode of this infection by around 25 years of age, and half of all women will have at least one in their lifetime. Since it’s such a common reason why women go to the doctors, urinary tract infections are always high on the list whenever a woman complains of pelvic pain. The most common symptoms usually are pain when urinating, pain in the pelvis, cloudy smelling urine, frequency of urination, and getting that sudden urge to have to go. Some patients have all of the symptoms, making the diagnosis very straightforward. Other patients have just a few of the symptoms, making it a little bit more complex. In fact, one of the main duties for the physician in these cases is to make sure that nothing else is occuring. Pelvic infections, such as sexually transmitted diseases, colitis, vaginal infections, constipation, ovarian pain, and appendix pain can all present with somewhat similar symptoms. The diligent physician will at least consider these other infirmities before leaping to the conclusion of urinary tract infection. The physician diagnoses a urinary tract infection with a urinalysis. Looking for the presence of bacteria, white blood cells (leukocytes), and a chemical from the bacteria called nitrites, the urinalysis is essential to rule in the diagnosis. It should be noted that ultrasounds, x-rays, and CT scans are not helpful in the diagnosis of urinary tract infections unless a mass or abscess is being considered. Treatment usually is a three-day course of antibiotics for women. While it in older days seven to ten days would’ve been needed, we now know that three days is usually sufficient. Bactrim, a sulfa drug, is still used in those who are not allergic and where Bactrim does not have a high resistance. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is also used, and as a third-line drug Macrodantin (nitrofurantoin) is used as a five day course. However, Macrodantin doesn’t actually kill the bacteria, and is usually reserved when other treatments simply don’t work. While other antibiotics not listed here are also often used, they should be used further down the road when these first-line therapies don’t seem to work. Preventing urinary tract infections can be tricky. Wiping patterns don’t seem to make as much of a difference as we once thought, and underwear fabric choice such as non-cotton underwear doesn’t seem to help either. Tampon use does not seem to play a role in the development of urinary tract infections. However, it does seem that cranberry juice and cranberry extract can help prevent urinary tract infections. Three to four hundred milligrams of cranberry extract twice daily seems to be an appropriate dose, which corresponds to three 8-ounce glasses of cranberry juice daily. A small daily dose of preventative antibiotics can also be given to patients who have urinary tract infections over and over again. While this does seem to work while the patient is taking them, this treatment is associated with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea from the antibiotics themselves. It also only seems to work as long as patients taking the antibiotic. Therefore, this should be done only when absolutely nothing else seems to work. Kidney function is usually preserved with a urinary tract infection, and the long-term outlook is excellent. Please contact your physician if you have any questions about urinary tract infection, or feel like you need treatment for it. Proper treatment can save a lot of pain and discomfort. Pray for those with serious infections.

UTI Treatment Clarksville TN | Call: (931)221-2745
Urinary Tract Infection treatment in Clarksville TN urology center - http://clarksvilleurology.com Are urinary tract infection antibiotics the best way to get rid of such an infection? Naturally, your doctor is going to recommend a number of hard-hitting antibiotics to prevent that infection from recurring again. You should not be surprised to know that the majority of people out there have suffered from a urinary tract infection, one time or another in their lives. If you are suffering from a urinary tract infection, also known as UTI or cystitis, the urinary tract infection antibiotics which are going to be used to destroy the E.coli are going to be quite strong. These bacteria have now evolved into strains which resist the penicillin and cephalosporin, which normally is used to combat cystitis. Doctors are now looking for quinolone as a standard treatment against these evolved bacterial strains, when once they used TMP – SMX (trimethoprim – sulfamethoxazole), to cure UTI. This was a three-day course, and in many cases, it is able to control the infection. Researchers are also looking for other stronger antibiotics, because these bacteria are capable of evolving themselves into antibiotic resistant strains in a couple of bacterial generations. Along with these medicines, there are other strong urinary tract infection antibiotics, which are used to tackle cystitis. Beta-lactams consist of penicillins – amoxicillin – and cephalosporins. These were extensively used to combat UTI, up to a couple of years ago, when they were found to be ineffective in about 25% of the cases. That is because the bacteria are becoming beta-lactam resistant. However Gram-positive Enterococcus can still be controlled by amoxicillin. A 10 days treatment of antibiotics is standard UTI treatment procedure. If the antibiotics like Augmentin and amoxicillin have not managed to control the infection, cephalosporins like Duricef, Ceftin, Lorabid, Suprax and cephalexin are going to be recommended by your doctors. These are strong enough to control penicillin resistant strains of bacteria. It is recommended that you complete the course of urinary tract infection antibiotics, and do not stop it midway, like many people have a tendency to do-so that the bacteria do not have a chance to cause an infection again. Many people who do not want to take antibiotics are looking at natural remedies, to cure a urinary tract infection. Yes, natural remedies are occasionally helpful, especially cranberry juice, but there is always the chance that the remedy cannot prevent the infection from occurring again, once the bacteria get a chance to multiply in convivial surroundings. Urinary tract infection antibiotics when used over a long period of time can cause some side effects in some patients. That is why, many times, your doctor may suggest a one-day or three-day medicine course depending on the strength of the medicine and the severity of your cystitis infection. Asking for a longer course does not automatically mean that the infection is going to be rooted out, and there are more chances of your suffering from the side effects like headaches and stomach upsets. Other Urinary Tract Infection Antibiotics to Consider A TMP SMX course is not recommended for people who are allergic to sulfa-based drugs. Septra is one of these very popular drugs, along with Bactrim. If you are allergic to the sulfa drugs, it is possible that your doctor is going to recommend Proloprim to you. Also , quinolones are making their mark as strong antibiotics to prevent cystitis, in the USA today. You can see them under the brand names of Cipro, Noroxin, Levaquin, etc. Tetracyclines are also effective antibiotics, which are normally used when you are urinary tract infection is caused by Mycoplasma bacteria or Chlamydia. These tetracyclines are not recommended to children or to expectant mothers. Now that you know all about urinary tract infection antibiotics, remember to tell your doctor about any allergies to penicillin and sulfa drugs, before you start taking a course to cure cystitis.

Inexpensive Acne Solution - ESKINOL and Dalacin C | RealAsianBeauty
No matter how pretty your clothes are or how fancy your accessories may be, the best way to looking and feeling really pretty is having fresh and clear skin.. I know that. That's why it's always a battle between me and acne. Good thing I know this inexpensive acne solution that treats acne super fast. This is quite famous here in the Philippines. Even dermatologits recommned this to their patients because it's really effective. The first time I used this, I was in college. It took just 3 months for my skin to go from ugly to pretty. I used : Eskinol Facial Cleanser 135 ml about Php 50 ~ $1 Dalacyn C 150 mg around P50 pesos ~$1 Dalacyn C is available in different countries but the Eskinol is only available at limited countries and some Asian stores / supermarkets. If you can't find it, I suggest looking for the really MILD and almost PURE cleanser that you have. Skip all the whitening, moisturizing, age-defying and stick to the most basic one that you can find. COUNTRIES THAT SELL ESKINOL : -ASIAN COUNTRIES -USA -GERMANY -AUSTRALIA -BRITAIN ALSO!! I Googled Eskinol and found that eBay sells it, too.
