Popular Diabetes Medication Linked to Kidney Failure

10:53
According to latest data from the Centers for Disease Control, more than 29-million Americans suffer from diabetes, and nearly one of four people with the disease aren't even aware that they have it. Even worse, as many as 86-million Americans currently suffer from pre-diabetes, and if preemptive measures aren't taken they too will be diagnosed with full-blown diabetes in a matter of years. With so many people suffering from both type one and type two diabetes, Big Pharma saw an opportunity to make a huge profit. In the rush to cash in on the diabetic epidemic they cut corners. They created a product that's causing as much harm, if not more, than the actual disease itself. That product is called Invokana. Mike Papantonio discusses this with attorney Tim O'Brien. See More at: http://www.YouTube.com/AboutColorado Things to Do and See in Colorado Videos and Experiences..! What is Diabetes? Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. Patients with high blood sugar will typically experience polyuria (frequent urination), they will become increasingly thirsty (polydipsia) and hungry (polyphagia). There are three types of diabetes: 1) Type 1 Diabetes The body does not produce insulin. Some people may refer to this type as insulin-dependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes, or early-onset diabetes. People usually develop type 1 diabetes before their 40th year, often in early adulthood or teenage years. Type 1 diabetes is nowhere near as common as type 2 diabetes. Approximately 10% of all diabetes cases are type 1. Patients with type 1 diabetes will need to take insulin injections for the rest of their life. They must also ensure proper blood-glucose levels by carrying out regular blood tests and following a special diet. Between 2001 and 2009, the prevalence of type 1 diabetes among the under 20s in the USA rose 23%, according to SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth data issued by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). (Link to article) 2) Type 2 Diabetes The body does not produce enough insulin for proper function, or the cells in the body do not react to insulin (insulin resistance). Approximately 90% of all cases of diabetes worldwide are of this type. Some people may be able to control their type 2 diabetes symptoms by losing weight, following a healthy diet, doing plenty of exercise, and monitoring their blood glucose levels. However, type 2 diabetes is typically a progressive disease - it gradually gets worse - and the patient will probably end up have to take insulin, usually in tablet form. Overweight and obese people have a much higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to those with a healthy body weight. People with a lot of visceral fat, also known as central obesity, belly fat, or abdominal obesity, are especially at risk. Being overweight/obese causes the body to release chemicals that can destabilize the body's cardiovascular and metabolic systems. The risk of developing type 2 diabetes is also greater as we get older. Experts are not completely sure why, but say that as we age we tend to put on weight and become less physically active. Those with a close relative who had/had type 2 diabetes, people of Middle Eastern, African, or South Asian descent also have a higher risk of developing the disease. Men whose testosterone levels are low have been found to have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Researchers from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, say that low testosterone levels are linked to insulin resistance.

Integrated Health Center of Miami - Testimonials

With the current epidemic of Type II Diabetes in America, it is very exciting to see a UNIQUE and EFFECTIVE approach to reverse such a devastating human ailment. Type II Diabetics can now feel hopeful about their future instead of the dread that often accompanies this disease. Our clinical model has helped many Type II Diabetics reverse their disease. Many Type II Diabetic patients find themselves in a drug therapy model that may not be adequate and creates more risk. Risks like increased insulin resistance, perpetual obesity, auto-immune reactions, liver and kidney damage are all possible complications of commonly used drugs associated with diabetes. Yet many are unaware of other options beyond dieting, weight loss, and exercise --------------- Dr. Ruben Valdes, DC Integrated Health Center of Miami Contact Info: Email | info@ihcmiami.com Phone Number | 786.801.3977 Social Media: Blog | http://www.ihcmiami.com/blog/ Twitter | @ihcmiami & @askdrvaldes Facebook | http://bit.ly/IHCMfb LinkedIn | http://bit.ly/IHCMli

What is a Community Health Center?

18:57
Community Health Centers serve the primary health care needs of 23 million patients in over 9,000 locations across America. They play a crucial role in the nation’s health care system, providing affordable health services for millions of uninsured, the working poor and newly jobless Americans. Health centers are good for the country. They lower overall health care costs, improve the health of their patients and generate economic opportunities in the communities they serve by providing jobs and training for local people. Community Health Centers create savings in health care every time a patient opts for an exam and treatment at the first sign of a health issue instead of waiting until a costly emergency room visit or hospitalization is the only option. Each health center takes a tailored approach to meet the unique needs of the people in its surrounding community. That local approach to health care, combined with an emphasis on comprehensive preventative care, generates $24 billion in annual savings to the health care system - for the American taxpayer, local, state and federal governments and public and private payers alike.

Diabetes on the Rise

01:30
The American epidemic of diabetes has leaped to historic heights in just two years according to information just released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 29 million Americans now have the disease, up from 26 million, a 12 percent jump in the number of diabetes cases in just two years. This is not surprising to David Robbins, MD, director of the KU Diabetes Institute at The University of Kansas Hospital, who is seeing more and more diabetes, and prediabetes patients every day. "It's a sad and expensive statistic," said Robbins. "Once one has diabetes, it not only shortens the life span, it as much as triples the cost of medical care. So it's a very serious diagnosis." For more information on the clinical trial or to participate, call 913-588-0277.

Adult Americans have an older heart

01:07
Three out of four American adults have a heart age that is older than their actual age. That's according to a report released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The report is the first one to provide population-level estimates of heart age in the U.S. It calculates heart age based on a person's cardiovascular risk factors, including high blood pressure, cigarette smoking, diabetes status, and body mass index as an indicator for obesity. CDC researchers collected risk factor data from every U.S. state and information from a heart study. They found nearly 69 million adults between the ages of 30 and 74 have a heart age older than their actual age. That's about the number of people living in the 130 largest U.S. cities combined. Overall, the average heart age for adult men is eight years older than their chronological age, compared to five years older for women. CDC said the heart age can be improved by quitting smoking or lowering blood pressure through eating healthier and exercise.
