We also explore why you SHOULD consider lifting weights and what it can do for your marathon training: • Improve force production & power output for faster running. • Increase your running economy (i.e. efficiency through better running form). • Bolster and strengthen your joints and muscles. • And more. If you want to learn bodybuilding from the world's best bodybuilder, you're in the right place. | Basics Are Best | "The biggest mistake being made in bodybuilding today is that people aren't covering basic exercises," says the Austrian Oak. And by basic, Arnold doesn't mean easy. Many contemporary fitness centers are full of people on machines, not in squat racks, and big-box gyms often lack even a single platform. Arnold disapproves: "Today, when I go in the gymnasium, I don't see any of the kids learning about the clean and press, or the snatch, or the upright row from the floor." Schwarzenegger's insistence on the essential lifts is not due to some grandfatherly desire to live in the past. It comes from decades of continued interest and expertise in the industry, and from the hard-earned knowledge that it doesn't take fancy machines or off-the-wall programming to become arguably the best bodybuilder in history. Get back to your bodybuilding roots and experience unbelievable growth. | Arnold Schwarzenegger's Training Tips | Chest: "There are three chest exercises that should always be done," Arnold says. "The bench press, the incline bench press at different angles, and the dumbbell flye." Back: "For back, I did chin-ups, bent-over barbell and dumbbell rows, and the T-bar row. Any kind of rowing movement will give you that thickness. Those are the exercises I relied on from the beginning of my career to the end." Arms: Arnold relied on the barbell curl to build thick biceps, but he also used incline dumbbell curls and concentration curls to isolate his biceps. "For triceps," Arnold says, "we did a lot of narrow [close-grip] bench press in the early days. And then triceps push downs and overhead triceps extensions later." Shoulders: Arnold's shoulders were built by barbell presses, behind-the-neck barbell presses, lateral raises, military presses, and dumbbell presses. "We always did presses behind the neck and a special dumbbell press which would stretch out the front delt at the bottom and fully flex it at the top. Now those are called Arnold presses." Legs "The squat is the most important exercise to create big thighs," says Arnold. "I did back squats, front squats, leg extensions, lunges, single-leg deadlifts, good morning exercises, and a lot of leg curls." Abs: "The regular training we did for abs was just leg raises, knee raises, crunches, and sit-ups. The Google Earth free flight simulator is easy to use and has real world application for pilots-to-be. This free flight sim pilot training software will help anyone get better at flying. It's also a good geography lesson. Fly around the world Use a joystick or keyboard shortcuts to explore the world in a flight simulator. Flight simulator requirements To use the flight simulator, you need: Google Earth installed on a Mac, Windows, or Linux computer A joystick or a mouse and keyboard Launch the flight simulator You can open the flight simulator through the menu or by using shortcut keys: In the menu: Click or tap Tools and then Enter Flight Simulator Windows: Press Ctrl + Alt + a Mac: Press ⌘+ Option + a Choose your plane Fly your plane Monitor everything that’s happening on your flight with the head-up display (HUD). To get help while you’re flying, press Ctrl + h (Windows and Linux). Speed: current speed in knots Heading: direction the aircraft is pointed Bank angle: angle you’re using to slowly turn the plane in a new direction Vertical speed: rate of ascent or descent in feet per minute Exit flight simulator feature: click this button to exit the flight simulator Throttle: level of the engine’s power Rudder: angle of the vertical axis of the plane Aileron: angle of the plane when you roll or bank it Elevator: angle and lift of the plane’s wings Flap and gear indicators: where the flaps and gears are set Pitch angle: angle between where the airplane is pointed and the horizon in degrees Altitude: how many feet above sea level the plane is flying Fly using a joystick To taxi down the runway for take off, press the joystick forward to pick up speed. Once the plane is moving quickly, pull the joystick back slightly to lift off. When your plane reaches flight altitude and the wings have leveled off, center the joystick. To change direction, make course corrections, or bank left or right, move the joystick in the direction you want to go. Small movements work best. Pause or resume a flight: Press the spacebar to pause a flight. Then, press it again to resume your flight. Fly using a mouse & keyboard Press the Page Up key to increase thrust and taxi the plane down the runway. Once the plane is moving, move the mouse slightly down. When you’re going fast enough, your plane will take off. When your plane reaches flight altitude and the wings have leveled off, center the mouse on your screen. To change directions, make course corrections, or bank right or left, use the arrow keys. Small corrections work best.
