Drugs (medication) that Raise Blood Sugar Levels

List of drugs that raise blood sugar. This information can come in handy in case you have high blood sugar and you are not sure what is causing it. Download Diabetes Diet eBook: https://goo.gl/UC5SZU We all get sick from time to time. We all have been given prescriptions other than our metformin or insulin. But did you know some medications can raise your blood sugar? I am confident that somewhere in that plethora of literature that accompanies most prescriptions is information that says that the drug will affect blood sugar. But how many of us actually read all that literature? Today I want to talk about common drugs that can raise your blood sugar. This list was compiled after researching the work of Mark T. Marino, MD. The list: Corticosteroids Thiazide diuretics Beta-blockers Niacin Antipsychotic drugs Striking a balance There is a longer list of drugs associated with diabetes, but the evidence for each of these is not very strong, or the medicine is only used rarely. For the more commonly used drugs that are known to worsen diabetes control, it is important to note that there remains a balance between intended benefits and unwanted side effects. Glucocorticoids can stop an inflammatory process like asthma, thiazide diuretics have been shown to be very successful at reducing high blood pressure and its complications, beta-blockers do protect against heart attacks, niacin does reduce coronary artery disease, and antipsychotic medicines can make the difference between hallucinating and perceiving reality. If you suspect that your blood glucose control may be adversely affected by a medicine you’re taking, speak with your health-care provider before making any changes. There may be an overall benefit to remaining on a drug that slightly increases blood glucose in some cases, or there may be alternatives that can be substituted. Unfortunately, no medicine is without its drawbacks, but by knowing what these drawbacks are, you can participate in an informed discussion with your health-care provider about the specific risks and benefits of a drug in your unique situation.

What medications will one have to take afterward Kidney Transplant? - Dr. Sankaran Sundar

02:09
After transplantation, the patient is on lifesaving drugs called as immunosuppressive therapy. What happens after transplantation is when somebody donates the kidney to the patient, the patient’s body says, I don’t want the kidney, because their immune system that fights the bacteria, that fights the virus, also fights the new kidney. They think that the kidney is foreign and we have to prevent this fighting which we call as rejection, the immune system has to be suppressed. The patient’s immune system has to be supressed by using special medications called as immunosuppressive drugs. These immunosuppressive drugs, we mainly use 3 drugs, one is called as cyclosporine, or tacrolimus, one is called mycophenolate or azathioprine. The third is prednisolone or steroids. These 3 drugs have made a lot of difference in the success of transplant. These are sort of lifelong treatment. They cannot be stopped. The dose may vary. We may give a higher dose initially and the dose may taper down to a maintenance dose after a couple of months. Then a person who has had a transplant will always invariably have high blood pressure and 50% of our patients are going for kidney transplant are diabetics. So they are on medications for diabetes. So many of the patients because of the steroids and other drugs like the cholesterol and lipids are high. So they are on antichoestrol drugs with statins. Many of them who are diabetics would have had a heart surgery or an angioplasty. So they are on ecospirin or aspirin or antiplatelet drugs and people who are diabetic are on antidiabetic and insulin. So they are on many drugs. So the most important drugs, which we call as immunosuppressive drugs to keep the kidney going cannot be missed, cannot be omitted and they have to be taken lifelong.
Peripheral Neuropathy Treatment. Can It Be Cured?

24:20
Peripheral Neuropathy Treatment. Can It Be Cured? CLICK HERE - http://www.itemsseenontv.com/neuropathy-treatment Most adults with diabetes mellititus, or as most people just say, diabetes, often suffer from diabetic neuropathy seven to even twenty years after diagnosis, especially if the person leads an unhealthy lifestyle or the longer they leave their diabetes uncontrolled or untreated. The symptoms of diabetic neuropathy include but are not limited to: -muscle weakness of the extremities -cramps -spasms -loss of balance and coordination -tingling of the legs, hands, and/or arms -numbness of the legs, hands, and/or arms What Diabetic Neuropathy Feels Like Pain is one of the most complained about symptoms of diabetic neuropathy. The pain of the tingling can feel like pins and needles in the extremities as well as the feeling of wearing too tight of gloves or leggings. Others with diabetic neuropathy have reported burning, freezing, and electric like shocks when the parts of their body with neuropathy (nerve damage) are touched. Even the weight of a bed linen sheet can feel like a slab of concrete laying on the person's legs and feet. Can Diabetic Neuropathy or Peripheral Neuropathy Be Prevented Some can prevent diabetic neuropathy from occurring, but not all are so lucky. Early detection of diabetes and caring for the ailment properly will go a long way in preventing the severity of diabetic neuropathy if the neuropathy is going to occur regardless. Common Causes of Diabetic Neuropathy or Peripheral Neuropathy Some causes of severe neuropathy include untreated diabetes or having diabetes that is unable to control easily. Having high blood sugars for extended periods of time cause damage to the nerves and lead to peripheral diabetes. Is Diabetic Neuropathy Always Permanent Damage Those who develop diabetic neuropathy can have either temporary or permanent nerve damage. The nerve damage is caused when blood sugars are allowed to reach high levels and blood flow is cut off to the extremities. Those with diabetes often have medical histories that show circulation issues. Poor circulation can lead to damage to the nerves and thus neuropathy. Are All Diabetics Prone to Diabetic Neuropathy Many studies of those with diabetes have shown that at least 50% of those with it have developed peripheral neuropathy. To attempt to prevent to be on the losing end of the 50% you can implement some precautions in your daily life as soon as you are diagnosed with diabetes. This is not a "for sure" prevention because sometimes, no matter what you do, you will have neuropathy due to diabetes. Keep blood sugars in a safe reading. Do this by checking your blood sugar frequently and eating the proper diet for diabetics. Steer clear of sugary foods which can cause high blood sugars. Remember, having high blood sugar readings for extended periods of time puts you at a higher risk of nerve damage occurring. Speak with your doctor, nutritionist, or diabetic specialist to learn what foods are appropriate for those with diabetes and attempt to follow the guidelines for diabetic diets as closely as possible. Exercise as much as you can, this will keep your heart rate going and your circulation better. Remember do only what you can and never in excess. Choose a healthy active lifestyle. Avoid alcohol if you are diabetic. If you choose to drink at a social event, most diabetic specialists would warn only two drinks for men and one for women. The Importance of Monitoring Your Extremities When You Have Diabetes Keep a close eye on your hands, arms, legs and feet. Be sure that they are the proper color. If you notice any color changes or if you feel like your extremities are more starting to show signs of neuropathy, report to your doctor immediately so that treatment can begin. The sooner you treat your neuropathy, just as with diabetes, the sooner treatment begins the sooner the process of healing can begin. Not all neuropathy is permanent so if you can treat and cure the nerve damage you should do so at any cost. As mentioned earlier, it is said that at least 50% of all those with diabetes will experience neuropathy of some form; either permanent or temporary. Whether you are part of that 50% that doesn't get neuropathy or not; the fact is, you should do all that you can to be on the side that doesn't experience neuropathy. Neuropathy is painful and to many it is severely painful and can be debilitating. Doing what you can to prevent it as much as possible is the smartest choice you can make. Side Effects Of Steroids

08:34
Side Effects Of Steroids Side Effects of Steroids Use The side effects that steroids have on the body are many and can cause some serious side effects including cancers, but many sports users chose to ignore any information on side effects, even to the point of using the excuse of “its only the drugs abuse that causes side effects” but any drug that alters the homeostasis of the body will have an effect. Brain: Studies have shown a pattern between high testosterone levels and aggressive behaviour, which is often seen as the users involved in violent acts. Often steroids have been used as an excuse for a person’s aggressive behaviour. High dose users have also been affected with psychotic syndromes and a high level of anxiety. Face: Steroid use results in high levels of water retention (oedema) leading to the user becoming “round faced” with puffy cheeks. In females reports have shown the effect of a growth of facial hair quite common, bad breath is quite a common effect as is the voice of females becoming husky by a deepening of the voice. Steroids also commonly affect the skin of the face and body by causing acne. Eyes: Long term use of steroids can actually damage the eyes, resulting in eye infections, cataracts or glaucoma. Hair: Male pattern baldness is common in both females and males due to the conversion of high levels of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone or DHT, causing the hair follicles to shrink, which only then produces very fine hair. Eventually with continued steroid use the hair follicle dies leading to permanent baldness. Heart: This section the steroid user should be most concerned about, but normally choose to ignore until a serious cardiovascular event happens. Steroid use causes heart disease and becomes evident due to high increases in total cholesterol levels, causing a build up of cholesterol on the walls of the blood vessels which can also lead to strokes. Also shown is a decrease in the levels of the good cholesterol (HDL) and increase in the bad cholesterol (LDL). Blood pressure is known to increase and blood clots in blood vessels disrupting the blood flow causing damage to the heart muscle leading to heart attacks. Stomach: Normal signs of problems to the stomach from steroid use include feelings of being bloated, a feeling of being nauseous leading to bouts of vomiting with blood sometimes being evident in the vomit caused by irritation to the stomach lining and increased stomach acids with a lower level of stomach mucus. Kidneys: The kidneys are important for the elimination of waste material from the blood and the regulation of salt and water levels. Another important function of the kidneys is the regulation of blood pressure; high blood pressure damages the blood vessels and filtering system of the kidneys. The occurrence of kidney problems occurs mostly with the use of oral steroids with a suppression of blood clotting factors leading to increased blood clotting time following cuts or injury. The kidneys have to work harder with oral steroid use due to increase requirements to filter the blood. Steroid users also normally resort to ultra high protein intake, sometime far in excess of normal intake involved with weight training which can lead to kidney stones. Kidney stones can block the opening of the urinary tract leading to problems with urinary excretion. High blood pressure can also cause problems to the kidneys by damaging the blood vessels by causing thickening and narrowed blood vessels leading to a reduced blood supply and filtration. Liver: The liver, the largest organ of the body is used to filter harmful toxins from the blood and for storage of certain nutrients like vitamins/minerals. It is also important for the managing levels of chemicals such as proteins, cholesterol and sugars. The liver is also used for the production of bile to aid in the digestion of food. Steroid use has been shown to cause irreversible liver damage and cancers Oral steroids are difficult for the liver to metabolise leading to a decrease in the ability of the liver to clear waste products. Some counterfeit steroids have been known to carry all kinds of bacteria and virus leading to adverse liver function. Hepatocellular jaundice which is evident by a yellowing of the skin and eyes, can be caused by an abnormal liver function as the liver cannot effectively filter the blood. Chest: Breast development (Gynocomastia) from steroid use is a very common and an often seen side effect of long term steroid cycles or high dose steroid use, causes a formation of breast tissue which begins as visible lumps under the nipples that normally requires surgical intervention. The breasts of female steroid users can actually shrink in size. Bones: Use of steroids by teenagers and males in their early twenties who have not yet ceased grow https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100017323662715 https://twitter.com/uniqueinfo93 https://plus.google.com/102151606354204218216 Click to watch all our videos.

How To Naturally Treat Psoriasis

04:18
It’s an annoying problem with an annoying name: psoriasis. This skin condition can create enormous problems with a person’s self-confidence, as it generally cannot be concealed. Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition which can target skin, nails and even joints. The autoimmune condition is a result of the body creating new skin cells faster than older cells can be eliminated. This leads to an avalanche of skin cells; they pile up, push up and leave the skin looking dry. Also, these silvery patches itch continuously. So what’s at the root of this skin cell build up? It can stem from many causes, including diabetes, high levels of stress, obesity, medications and smoking. Infections can also worsen the condition. Although there is no absolute cure for psoriasis, symptoms can be controlled by topical oils. In today’s video we’ll review a few specific types of oil treatment. Tea Tree Oil This oil, which is from the leaves of the Melaleuca tree, contains antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. These can provide much needed relief from redness, itching, and burning sensations. Tea tree oil exfoliates dry, flaky skin cells and softens the plaques, thus reducing itching. As the anti-inflammatory properties penetrate the skin layers, they reduce swelling and redness. Occasionally, the oil can lessen the appearance of scar tissue caused by psoriasis. Try experimenting with one of the following types of tea tree oil treatment: 1. Topical solution Since tree tea oil is potent, it should always be diluted with water or other oils. Applying full strength could result in irritation and burning sensations. To create your own solution for application of the scalp, nails or skin, follow these directions: In a small cup of water, mix in a few drops of tea tree oil Dab a cotton ball into the solution to moisten Apply the solution to the skin, scalp or nails Allow it to remain overnight In the morning wash the areas and pat dry Repeat daily Other natural moisturizers such as olive or coconut oil can also provide a soothing effect. After bathing, you may want to add a drop or two of tea tree oil with your daily moisturizer. 2. Tea Tree Oil Bath An immersion in a tub of water enhanced with tea tree oil can provide a world of relief to those who suffer with psoriasis. Simply add a few drops of tea tree oil, almond oil, or olive oil to your bathwater. Soak for 20 minutes daily. 3. Tea Tree Oil with Shampoo Dry itchy skin that’s under attack by psoriasis? First, make sure your shampoo contains very few chemicals. And when you shampoo: Mix 1 part of tea tree oil with 10 parts shampoo Once completely blended, shampoo your hair Rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water Repeat as needed You may also check your health and beauty aisles for shampoos that already contain tea tree oil. Tips and Precautions Consult your dermatologist before using any type of topical treatment Remember tea tree oil is too potent for any direct application Use 2 – 5% concentration of tea tree oil in homemade remedies Always perform a patch test on healthy skin. If you observe adverse reactions, do not use. If the symptoms of psoriasis become worse instead of better, stop using it. How to prevent allergic conjunctivitis?

01:26
The most common types of ocular allergies are seasonal and perennial allergic conjunctivitis. Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis is the more common type accounting for the majority of allergic conjunctivitis cases. As its name suggests, it is related to specific pollens that spore during specific seasons. Symptoms generally include red, itchy and watery eyes. People affected by hay fever and other seasonal allergies also experience symptoms involving the nose and throat. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for seasonal allergic conjunctivitis unless you can find a way to completely avoid coming into contact with the allergens. Treatment of allergic conjunctivitis Non-drug therapy: The key approach is avoidance of the known or suspected allergens. Recommendations include: keeping windows, doors and vents closed; wearing glasses/sunglasses; and avoiding grass cutting, picnics and camping. When symptoms do arise, non-drug approaches that may bring temporary relief of symptoms include simple application of cold compresses to the eyes and physical removal (dilution or wash out) of allergens from the conjunctival surface with saline or artificial tears administered four to eight times daily. Tablets: Orally ingested antihistamines may partially relieve ocular symptoms and work on nasal symptoms. However, topical eye drops may prove the fastest and most effective in relieving ocular itch, redness and swelling. Unlike oral medications, eye drops allow the medication to get directly to the affected eyes. Eye drops: Since histamine causes most of the common symptoms associated with allergic conjunctivitis, the most commonly used agents either block the actions of histamine or prevent the rupturing of mast cells, from which histamine is released. However, as there are other processes involved in the allergic response, products with multiple actions on histamine as well as on cells involved in the allergic reaction may be more appropriate to treat acute symptoms and to prevent their recurrence. In severe and longstanding cases, topical steroids (eg dexamethasone, prednisolone) are often required. Short courses (burst or pulse and taper) can break the inflammatory cycle. Given the potentially disastrous visual consequences of long term steroid use, especially in the unsupervised patient, these should not be continued simply to try and eliminate all final traces of the condition.
