Christi Hay is not your average pediatrician. With her own practice, Palisades Pediatrics, she is able to visit each of her patients at their homes and give more personal attention to the people that she treats. Dr. Christi Hay is a native of California, who now calls the Washington Metropolitan area home. Dr. Hay has worked in academia for The George Washington University as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics. In this capacity, Dr. Hay taught pediatric residents, medical and physician assistant students. Dr. Hay also worked in private practice in the Spring Valley area of Washington, DC for several years. In 2011, Dr. Hay started Palisades Pediatrics in Washington, DC. Palisades Pediatrics is an intentionally small practice where families have direct access to the provider via phone, text, email, home and office visits and expanded after-hours. Dr. Hay enjoys all aspects of pediatrics but she has special interests in developmental delays, early childhood literacy, breastfeeding, reactive airway disease/asthma, nutrition and fitness. I am a Nurse Educator- Megan Kessel

03:37
Hello Class! My name is Megan Kessel and this is my introduction for I am a nurse educator for the Nursing Education Practicum class. I am a registered nurse at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem, North Carolina. I have been at Wake throughout my nursing career. I started out as a staff nurse in the pediatric operating room, after graduating from Davidson County Community College in May 2009. I served in the role of staff nurse for the first 5 years of my nursing career, prior to transitioning to assistant clinical coordinator for the pediatric operating room in November 2014. After serving in that role for the past 3 years, I was offered the nursing professional development specialist position for the OR academy in December of last year. In this new role, I have been working to up-fit and align our academy to new standards of practice. Additionally, I have been working and will continue to be working on expanding our education services, so that we can reach all hospitals within out network for equivalent education. In this role, I work with a team of 6 other educators to promote the well-being and success of surgical services on our Winston campus, as well as our other areas, such as Davie, Lexington, Wilkes, and High Point. Being new to a role and one that is evolving, I tend to be quite busy and often times overwhelmed, but I am very fortunate to have this opportunity to apply my education degree into practice. For this practicum, I will be working with Dr. Sam Ogle, our associate director of clinical nursing education for the Wake Forest System. Together we plan to focus on the area of nursing education and recruitment for medical-surgical units, as my project outline is to create and implement a nurse residency program for ADN programs. My goal will be to assess the need and benefits through literature review, and then implement by sharing this concept with participating schools. Our campus has already been providing a similar program for baccalaureate prepared nurses in the critical care setting, and we are hoping to learn from this research and implement a similar program for associate’s degree nurses going forward. On a personal note, I am 29 years old and married to my husband Michael. We have been together 7 years and will be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary this fall. We do not have any children, although we do have an adorable toy Australian shepherd, named Ozzie. Also, we have 7 miniature horses at my parent’s house that I used to show in high school. We would love to give them to someone in the future who would love them and spend time with them, as they have became pasture ornaments over the course of a few years. We still love them dearly, which is the hard part, but our available time to spend with them has diminished. In my spare time, and especially after I finish this degree, we love to travel. We enjoy cruising, camping, and well, any type of travel. I look forward to working with each of you during this practicum, as we get close to finishing this degree. I wish everyone much luck and I hope to see you all at graduation in May!

Advancing your Career with a DNP degree

Learn more about the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, and what DNP degrees Missouri State University has to offer.
Prepare for Nursing School 2

07:30
www.EmpoweRN.com What is the difference between LPN, RN, BSN and which is best for you? Please watch the video and find out! Any questions email me anytime at empower.RN@gmail.com Licensed Practical Nurse or LPN Advantages Only requirement is a high school diploma to enter a program. The course takes about a year to accomplish so you could be in the workforce soon. Programs are held at vocational centers and technical schools and also many high schools have special programs for practical nursing education. (These students receive their high school diploma and are immediately able to sit for the PN boards.) Entrance requirements are less and test scores can be lower than scores needed for RN schools. Depending on the program, you may or may not have prerequisites (although I highly recommend taking science classes like anatomy and physiology first). Stepping stone programs to get your RN are easily found. Disadvantages of LPN If your program requires prerequisites it may take you one to two years to complete them. Your scope of practice as an LPN is limited as some of your nursing documentation will have to be cosigned by an RN. Less pay for almost the same amount of work that RNs are required to do. From what I have witnessed, there seem to be fewer job offers, and it is especially difficult to get hired in most specialty care areas. Associate Degree Nurse or ADN Advantages This program usually focuses more on technical nursing skills than nursing theory, the focus of BSN programs. You usually get this degree at a community college It takes two years or 4 to 5 semesters. You can sit for the RN boards in two years versus getting a four-year university education and taking the same state boards. You have more marketability than an LPN. You enter the nursing workforce at a higher salary than an LPN. You have more opportunities for career progression. There are many RN-BSN programs available, which means an associate degree nurse can enter a program and have his or her BSN in about a year. Your education in general will be less expensive because it is at a community college. Many employers offer tuition reimbursement. Normally the student to faculty ratio is smaller. In many hospitals you can go into administration with your ADN. In many hospitals you can become a charge nurse. Disadvantages You may have up to one year of prerequisites that need to be completed depending on your high school education. There may even be prerequisites for the RN to BSN program. Some hospitals now require you to have a BSN. Many associate degree programs require a CNA license before you apply or begin the program. Diploma RN Advantages Takes 3 years. Administered in a hospital. A diploma program requires students to do more clinical work than degree seeking students. Thus the adjustment into a permanent nursing position is usually easier. Hiring advantages exist because you are familiar to the hospital. Disadvantages Many of these programs do not offer college credits that will transfer to a university, so if you want to progress to a BSN you might have to repeat some courses. There are only about 70 of these programs in existence today according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Advantages Many employers favor an applicant with a BSN degree. This will open many positions in inpatient and community settings and will help you on the road to becoming an advance practice nurse. The educational focus trends more toward leadership roles with extensive training that prepares you for administrative positions. For many high school students planning to get a four-year degree, nursing offers an excellent career opportunity. Specialization requiring graduate level studies is easier. When you decide which advanced degree you want you can go directly to it (some programs may still require prerequisites depending on your school's undergrad course load.) Disadvantages More expensive. Takes longer. Your first two years of school are not nursing centered and high grades in this non-nursing coursework are essential in order to get accepted to a nursing program. You may complete these two years and might not gain acceptance into the nursing program, as many programs are extremely competitive. Quite often your pay is the same as the ADN. Accelerated BSN Advantages If you have a bachelor's degree in another field you can apply to the program and obtain a BSN in 12-18 months. This is the fastest way to get into the nursing field if you already have a bachelor's in another field. Disadvantages A 3.0 GPA is usually required. Prerequisites may apply, especially if you do not have a science background. There are only approximately 200 programs in existence, so you may have difficulty finding a program near you. Physician Assistant/Health Educator: Foreign Medical Graduates Going from MD to PA

05:20
Peace be to you all (AsSalama'laikum)! I had a number of viewers ask me about becoming PA if they already had medical degrees from countries outside of the US. This is not always a bad idea. Getting Medical Residency is extremely challenging for foreign medical graduates. This can be particularly true if you have been an established doctor in your country for a long time. When it comes to applying to Physician Assistant school, do keep in mind that some PA programs MAY frown upon foreign medical graduates (FMG). They may be seen as using the PA program as a back-up plan. It takes a GREAT deal of humility for an FMG to become a PA. There was a time (about 3 decades ago) when FMGs could simply practice as PA s without going to Physician Assistant school (in some states). NOW, all FMGs HAVE to complete PA prerequisites apply to, and attend PA school just like everyone else. They also have to take and pass the Physician Assistant National Certification Exam (PANCE). I have known a number of FMGs who have done this after being frustrated with the medical residency process (EXTREMELY selective even for those who have passed all three USMLE steps). I have not heard any of them complaining about being PA s once they acquired their PA jobs (and salaries $$$😉). Understand that you won't get paid as much as would as if you were an MD/DO. However, you WILL get to practice medicine in conjunction w/a Supervising M.D./D.O. and work with a great amount of independence (especially depending on the location and specialty). Those of you who are FMG s and have been constantly stymied with the Medical Residency process may find the Physician Assistant field to be quite rewarding. I hope this information helped someone. Peace!

Other learning styles included are kinesthetic (physical), verbal or linguistic, auditory or aural, logical or mathematical, and visual. Nursing CEU Courses - Get Free Access Here

01:17
Nursing CEU Courses Get Access To Free Courses Below - https://goo.gl/wBzT5c Nursing CEU courses play a critical role in the professional development of nurses. Despite being highly trained professionals, nurses have to keep updating themselves with the latest knowledge and skills by pursuing Nursing Continuing Education. Why are these courses vital and where can a nurse get reliable CEU courses? ** Share This Video with Your Colleagues** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePbKEVyT9Bw&feature=kp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePbKEVyT9Bw&feature=kp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePbKEVyT9Bw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePbKEVyT9Bw http://youtu.be/ePbKEVyT9Bw https://youtu.be/ePbKEVyT9Bw Importance of Nursing CEU courses *Renewal of licenses Every nurse, especially in the US, has to renew his or her licenses every year. One of the requirements for this renewal is the accumulation of sufficient nursing continuing education units. Enrolling for these courses is the only way to gather these vita units. Any nurse who ignores this requirement risks being locked out of the profession. However, it is not just any units but approved units. The approval is done by professional bodies mandated to approve such courses. In the US for instance, this approval is done by ANCC. Thus, every nurse has to confirm the accrediting body in the country where one practices so that the units one gets are relevant. *Professional relevance Professional reality is in a state of flux. What was valid yesterday might not work today. Things change. New challenges keep coming up while old approaches to medical issues are no longer functional. In this changing environment, the nurse has no option other than keep abreast with the new knowledge and skills. Failure to do this will lead to professional irrelevance; the nurse will be out of sync in this career. *Career growth There are opportunities for career advancement in nursing. One does not have to remain stuck at the entry level. However, there are many nurses who eye those higher positions. One way to stand out from the rest is by accumulating more units than the others. How do you achieve this? By enrolling for nursing CEU courses. Employers value workers who value their careers. Any nurse who accumulates these units on a regular basis demonstrates a commitment to knowledge and effectiveness. *Better team member Nurses have to work with others, be it doctors, clinical officers or other nurses. All these other professionals also keep updating their competencies through Continuing Education in their respective fields. A nurse has to keep pace with the others so that there is no mismatch of skills and competencies. Nursing CEU courses offer nurses with the only opportunity to keep pace with the developments in this branch of medicine. *How to pursue nursing Continuing Education courses There are two basic approaches that a nurse can use to accumulate nursing continuing education units. Some nurses prefer the old approach of attending classes in a typical college. This option has its advantages, for instance you get the feel of being a student by sitting in a physical classroom or lecture hall, and you interact with your fellow students and the instructors in class. However, in today’s busy world, this option is quite rigid since it confines you to a given location. In addition, you have to stick to a rigid time table. Due to the reasons highlighted above, nurses are now opting for online nursing continuing education. The biggest advantage of this mode of study is its flexibility. You can study from anywhere on the planet and at any time convenient to you. Moreover, this option is more affordable than the typical approach to gathering these vital units.
