How to Feed a Feline Cancer Patient | Feeding the Cat with Cancer

06:20
As cats get older, their risk of developing cancer increases. Like humans, cats can get many different types of cancer, which may result in a variety of complications. It is common for feline cancer patients to have trouble getting proper nutrition, either because of the cancer itself or as a side effect of some of the common treatments for cancer (such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy). You can ensure that your cat gets the best nutrition possible by feeding your cat a diet tailored to their needs, stimulating your cat’s appetite, and helping them eat if they need extra assistance or are unable to do so on their own. Medical Marijuana Cures: My Cat's Cancer

02:58
My Cat, Lhasa, was 17 when she was diagnosed with a form of bladder cancer called transitional cell carcinoma. She was given a month or two to live and as a result of putting her on Medical Marijuana (A high ratio of CBD to a low ratio of THC) her cancer was stopped dead in its tracks. She lived another two years and was 19 when she passed of other ailments due to old age. I was not a person who did Marijuana and could not even stand being around the odor of Marijuana. Had I not seen the CNN special that Dr. Sanjay Gupta did on Medical Marijuana I never would have been persuaded to try it for my cat. It arrested her cancer and I also used a different ratio of CBD to THC for my other elderly cat and it stopped her limping. she had been limping for a couple of years prior to the Medical Marijuana. Medical Marijuana should be fully researched and investigated before you use it for yourself, a loved one or a companion animal. Thank you to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN, my vet, our oncologist and Constance Finley (who has been helping thousands of people with medical problems using medical marijuana for years) I had two more years with my sweet little Lhasa and I like to think that the data compiled throughout her medical marijuana journey will help other people and animals.

Treating Cancer in Cats and Dogs

02:56
MARIO RITTER: Salsa is a house cat. She belongs to Chris Condetti. We asked Chris what Salsa means to his family. CHRIS CONDETTI: "She is part of the family. She's always with us." MARIO RITTER: Many people treat their pets like family members. Americans spend large amounts of money on health care for pets. They spent $13 billion on veterinary care in 2010. But the health of animals also has a big influence on medical care for people. At the University of Missouri, Doctor Kim Selting recently completed a study on cancer in cats. DOCTOR KIM SELTING: "I think the value of what happens for the health of a pet and how it might translate to human health has come very much to the forefront." MARIO RITTER: Veterinarians study information about animal health from across the United States. At the National Institutes of Health, or NIH, Doctor Chand Khanna tests new cancer drugs for dogs. He says those tests may help people with cancer. DOCTOR CHAND KHANNA: "For the most part, almost every human cancer that occurs, occurs in the dog." MARIO RITTER: Veterinarians can do many of the same tests on dogs and cats that doctors can do on human patients. Doctor Khanna says bone cancer develops in the same way in dogs and humans. DOCTOR CHAND KHANNA: "We've looked at molecular profiles of dog osteosarcoma and human osteosarcoma and we really can't distinguish the dog and the human." MARIO RITTER: And, both species react to drugs. DOCTOR CHAND KHANNA: "Our focus has really been on therapy, really trying to understand how and why drugs that are intended for human use, how we can make them better through their evaluation in dogs with cancer. That's our focus." MARIO RITTER: The research provides better care for pets. Treating animals helps researchers learn much more about cancers in a shorter period of time. DOCTOR KIM SELTING: "They age more rapidly. Their cancers progress more rapidly. We can get answers to whether or not something works much more quickly than you could in a human trial." MARIO RITTER: Veterinarians say they are now able to exchange information with human-cancer specialists to explore what causes cancers and the best ways to treat them. I'm Mario Ritter.

Owner discusses cat's cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery

Pistache is an 18-year-old female spayed domestic shorthair cat belonging to Sylvie Bermingham. Pistache was diagnosed with an inoperable oral squamous cell carcinoma (aggressive oral cancer) in late May of 2008. She had a large tumor between her mandibles (lower jaw) and also had metastatic disease in the draining lymph nodes (somewhat unusual for oral squamous cell carcinoma). Pistache's tumor responded wonderfully to an alternating protocol combining mitoxantrone and carboplatin, two chemotherapy agents that are frequently used in cats. She ate better, gained weight, and is still doing well a year after diagnosis. This condition normally has a 1 to 3 month prognosis for survival when inoperable. Know These 9 Common Signs Of Cancer To Give Your Cat A Fighting Chance

10:32
Cancer isn’t as common in cats as it is in dogs, but it tends to be more aggressive. This may be because cats are very good at hiding their pain and discomfort, leading to the disease being in more advanced stages at diagnosis. These days there are effective treatments for many types of feline cancers and advances in research and technology are giving our cats a better chance at survival every day. Of course, early detection and diagnosis is key when it comes to cancer and greatly improved the success of treatment. The best way to detect a problem early is to know what to look for. How to Recognize Skin Cancer in Cats | Skin Cancer in Cats

06:00
When it comes to skin cancer, a cat's best friend is its hairy coat. Their dense fur shields their skin from UV rays and acts like a permanent sunscreen, which means that cats are less prone to skin cancer than people or thin-furred animals. However, cats can still get skin cancer. The most common feline skin cancer is squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). If you have a cat, you should be on the lookout for signs that it has skin cancer so that it can be treated as quickly as possible. Affecting the top or basal layer of skin and appearing along the head, neck, legs and chest, basal cell carcinomas are malignant tumors that increase in size and can spread to neighboring skin. Squamous cell carcinoma is one of the most common forms of skin cancer in cats. Welcome to Pets and Animals YouTube Channel. Here you'll find a lot of information about Animals and Pets. Cat with Squamous Cell Carcinoma (cancer)

PLEASE HELP! She is between 7-11 years old. She had the sore nose for about 2 months and we just found out that it was tumour. The most experienced veterinarian here told us that she will need leathal injection sooner or later. We are looking for advice from a veterinarian who had treated these cases in the past. Can it be treated with surgery? What exact chemotherapy will she need? Anything else? Facts; she is "not to be caged crazy" cannot be hold for topical treatment. The medication should be given by mixing it with the food. The food can be fully controlled and she doesn't eat anywhere else. Neither, other cats come and eat her food. PLEASE HELP! EDIT: SHE IS HAVING THE LETHAL INJECTION TODAY (9 APRIL 2016) DUE TO HER PAINFUL LAST DAYS. ABOUT 4 MONTHS AFTER THE VIDEO. I WILL NOT POST ANOTHER VIDEO ABOUT IT. BUT THIS CAN BE A REFERENCE. IF YOUR CAT APPEARS LIKE THIS, HE/SHE DOESN'T HAVE MUCH TIME.

Warning Signs of Lung Cancer in Cats

01:05
My cat Ronja started making this extremely worrying sound all of a sudden, became fairly lethargic too! Due to this happening late in the evening I couldn't rush her to the vet. She was fairly calm yet alert, but only wanted to lie around, not eat even her favorite food. It got somewhat better, but still raspy breath and too calm after a short while, but that lasted for about 4 hours before it cleared up seemingly completely. First thing she did when it cleared up was go eat. Now I can't hear a thing even if I press my ear to her belly. In the beginning she made a strange loud burping sound 3 times with a few minutes a part. A loud boom of a burp. She and her two longfurred buddies shed a lot lately, so not sure if it is hairball related (she did a few regurgitating attempts at first, but nothing came up) Though the fit itself wasn't deadly, it turned out to be Lung Cancer. She lived a fairly normal life with very few instances like this, but you could hear her breathing was a bit struggled near the end. She passed away in my arms about half a year later. Her passing was quick and sudden, so she got to die naturally at home.

Woman nurses around 175 cats suffering from feline cancer

02:47
A nurse in Peru has turned her two-story house into a sanctuary for old and sick cats. Maria Torero, a nurse by trade, treats from her home at least 175 cats in poor health, most of which have been diagnosed with leukaemia or respiratory infections. Torero said she also cares for the ones with kidney failures, pancreatic diseases and gallstones "probing and giving them their special medicine and food." Despite having arms covered in scratches, this mother of three said her goal is to provide the cats with "quality of life" in the remaining years of their lives. Most of the felines used to roam Lima's markets and streets in search for food before Torero rescued them. In just one visit to Lima's Agustino market, she said she was able to rescue 60 cats. All the cats are diagnosed by veterinarians who charge 25 US dollars per test, amount that Torero said comes out of her pocket. A study from the University of Munich published in 2012 showed that feline leukaemia is one of the most common diseases in cats worldwide. Many of the animals have lost weight, are anaemic and lose bloody fluids from the nose, which are the main symptoms of the disease. Torero explained that she administers them with medicine as prescribed, despite people suggesting to put to sleep the ones in worst condition. She added that when a cat dies, there is no special ceremony or burial, since she provides all the love and attention when they are alive.
