I'm sure many of you color your hair, dye your hair, bleach your hair, tone your hair and use your hair as another form of expression and I'm here to tell you so was I. It was Tuesday October 10th 2017 that I used a different hair product and within 20 minutes my hair was falling out. It only took 20 minutes. One second I was applying the hair product then I was washing it out thoroughly but more than the product came out. If only I'd read the "do not use on bleached hair" warning on the instructions. I searched to buy cool and real hair wigs, to buy realistic hair extensions, to buy long natural tape ins but unfortunately by hair was now chemical burned too short and wigs are not cheap. I decided I cant hide myself away forever, I have to face the people who know me and show them my story so hopefully I wont have to explain in person how I lost all my hair. Fasting vs. Eating Less: What's the Difference? (Science of Fasting)
This is about the drastic physiological differences between fasting and eating less ▲Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/WILearned ▲Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeverettlearned *NOTE* One of the key things in being able to fast in a healthy matter is entering the state of ketosis - that is, switching your metabolism from burning carbohydrate to burning fat. *Considering most people have been burning carbohydrate their whole lives* this can make fasting a challenge. Upton Sinclair recommends doing quite long fasts - 12 days, but you may want to work your way up to longer fasts. Unless you are relatively keto adapted (or have experience with fasting of course), it's important that you take precautions while doing a fast. Fasting isn't inherently dangerous, *but diving into fasting when your body is in no way geared for it can be.* I recommend doing more research before doing longer fasts. "The Complete Guide to Fasting" (http://amzn.to/2tQjxXa) is a good book to start with. As Tim Ferriss puts it: Please don't do anything stupid and kill yourself. It would make us both quite unhappy. Just in case I should also say that of course you need to balance fasting with eating - You need to survive off of something. I have been doing intermittent fasting the past year (22 hours fasted, 2 hours eating - you can widen it to 16/8, which still provides great benefits) and will fast for a couple days every other month or so. Several other people have recommend a routine like this - Tim Ferriss recommends doing a 3 day fast once per month and a 7 day fast once per year. Also make sure you're getting enough fat, protein, micronutrients and fiber to maintain a healthy weight and healthy body - *excessive* fasting can be very dangerous. 6 Pancreatic Cancer Symptoms You Should Never Ignore. When was the last time you thought about your pancreas? Chances are, you rarely give much thought to this glandular organ, which helps your body digest food and convert it into energy. Located behind your stomach, the pancreas produces insulin and regulates your body's hormones that maintain glucose (blood sugar) levels. Pancreatic cancer is overall pretty rare, with 55,440 people in America expected to be diagnosed in 2018. (The most commonly diagnosed cancer is non-melanoma skin cancer, affecting more than 1 million people a year, followed by lung cancer, with more than 200,000 cases diagnosed annually.) But even though it’s an uncommon diagnosis, pancreatic cancer is soon expected to overtake colon cancer as the number-two leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, says Valerie Lee, MD, pancreatic oncologist at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Why? First, because pancreatic cancer is very aggressive. “It has a high likelihood of spread, or metastasis, to other organs in the body," says Neil Woody, MD, oncologist at the Cleveland Clinic. The five-year survival rate is only 8.5 percent. But it may also be because pancreatic cancer is on the rise. Pancreatic cancer has been diagnosed at an increase of .5% a year for more than a decade. Part of that is due to increased detection, Dr. Lee says, but lifestyle factors may be playing a role as well. Increases in diabetes and obesity—two major risk factors for pancreatic cancer—may also be contributing to the rise in pancreatic cancer cases. Pancreatic cancer warning signs. Pancreatic cancer is notoriously difficult to diagnose. Only about 10 percent of pancreatic cancers have a genetic predisposition, and good screenings for the general population have been difficult to establish, says Dr. Woody. “Tests with high likelihood of detecting pancreatic cancer, such as endoscopic ultrasound, are invasive, costly, and may carry risks of complications that outweigh their use as screening tests for the average person,” he explains. What’s more, pancreatic cancer is tough to spot early, and many of the symptoms can be caused by other conditions. Plus, people usually have no symptoms until the cancer has spread to other organs. Still, if you are experiencing any of these warning signs, it’s worth making an appointment with your doctor. 1. New onset of diabetes “When people with no risk factors for diabetes (no family history, good diet, thin body type) develop new onset diabetes, or who have a history of well controlled diabetes suddenly find that it becomes difficult to control, it’s reasonable to evaluate why the pancreas may not be functioning as well," says Dr. Lee. 2. Abdominal pain "The pancreas sits close to a bundle of blood vessels and nerves called the celiac plexus that can cause pain and nerve irritation, says Dr. Lee. But the pain is usually pretty encompassing of your abdomen. "Patients feel pain from the epigastrum (the area just under the sternum) through to their back. Imagine a tire hiked up right under your chest and around your abdomen," says Kim Reiss-Binder, MD, an oncologist specializing in pancreatic cancer at the University of Pennsylvania. 3. Unexplained blood clots "Patients with pancreas cancer are particularly prone to blood clots," says Dr. Lee. While the exact cause is not known, it is believed that cancer cells reduce the proteins the body uses to prevent blood clots. “For people who do not have a reason for the development of a clot—a recent major surgery, trauma (like a car accident), hospitalization, or prolonged period where you are laying still, or a hereditary predisposition to clotting—we recommend making sure you are up to date on your cancer screening and to check in with your doctor about any other symptoms that may help to identify the source of the clotting abnormality," says Dr. Lee. 4. Preparing for a Colonoscopy
Prepare for your colonoscopy with these simple tips from Dr. Lynn Butterly, Director of the Colorectal Cancer Screening Program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the United States -- yet it's one of the few we can prevent. Prevention and detection are the keys to beating colorectal cancer. The colonoscopy uses a thin, flexible tube through which your doctor can detect polyps with a tiny camera, and even remove them without discomfort in a matter of seconds. Preparing as effectively as possible for a colonoscopy gives your doctor the best chance of finding even the smallest polyps. Your doctor will prescribe you the "prep" medication that you will drink beforehand, but you will also want to have other materials on hand for the "clear liquid diet" that you'll have to be on as well. Clear liquids include apple juice, ginger ale, Jell-O, broth or bouillon. Hard candies may even be OK as well. You also may want to have extra toilet paper, special wipes, or magazines or books. Drink one glass every 15 minutes or so until you feel full, then take a break to let it work through your system. Don't get discouraged as you work your way through the jug; just remember, possibly having undiscovered colorectal cancer will be harder than this preparation! The "split prep" is another option. You would do most of your prep in the afternoon and night, then finish the prep first thing in the morning, if your endoscopy center recommends it. Remember that you have to finish the prep at least an hour and a half before your appointment. You can flavor your prep with a colorless flavor of Crystal Light (flavor each glass, not the whole jug). We encourage you to use more than one flavor for variety's sake. Again, your own endoscopist may have different recommendations than what we have suggested here. Check with your provider for specific instructions.
