What Breaks a Fast and What Does NOT Break a Fast - The Official Video

11:28
Click Here to Subscribe: http://Bit.ly/ThomasVid Website: http://ThomasDeLauer.com What Breaks a Fast and What Does NOT Break a Fast - The Official Video - Thomas DeLauer So many people have asked the awesome questions about specific foods breaking a fast or not breaking a fast, so I figured, what the heck, why don't I just lay it out for you. I'm going to list out foods that are fasting-safe, or should I say drinks, and things that are fasting-safe. But, then I'm going to list out things that are no-gos, things that will definitely break a fast. I'm going to give you a little bit of the science, too. Then I'm going to talk about the gray area. What I mean by gray area is there are going to be things that may or may not break a fast. It's still undecided. The jury is still out. I'll give you my honest opinion on it, so you can take it for what it's worth. But first off, let's go ahead and let's talk about a couple of things that are good to go while you're fasting. First and foremost, we know that good, old-fashioned H2O is good to go. Unless you're doing a dry fast, water is not going to cause a problem. You're good to go. Kind of an obvious one. The next one I want to talk about, green tea. Very powerful, that epigallocatechin-3-gallate, that EGCG, is really powerful. Allows your body to mobilize fats quite a bit better, so it's a very good thing to be drinking while you're fasting. Then, we've got coffee, of course. Coffee will not break a fast as long as it's black. Totally good to go. Again, the caffeine mobilizing fatty acids. You're good there. It's going to help expedite the process of fasting. It's going to help expedite glycogen removal, or should I say, storage, that the carbs and the glycogen and the glucose isn't in your bloodstream anymore. It goes into the muscles. We definitely want that, so that's powerful. Here's a kind of a weird one. It's going to be most teas, black, green, or whatever, but I have to say this now, certain herbal teas with fruit. You see some herbal teas out there, the have little chunks of apple, they have little chunks of berries that are dehydrated. You're getting the fructose from those fruits, so I would highly recommend staying away from those. That's a no-go. So then, back to the fasting-safe, now we've got different sodas that I want to talk about. Zevia, for one, I've talked about this in a video. That's a soda that's sweetened with Stevia, so you're good to go there. And, as much as I hate to say this, I'm going to go on the record by saying I don't think that aspartame is good. I don't think it's healthy, but a lot of people ask. Diet Coke, diet sodas, you're going to be okay. Aspartame doesn't technically break a fast. So, you're okay there. I just don't think it's the best thing to do, but I know that a lot of you are wondering that, so I'm going to go ahead and say it. When we look at any kind of carbonated beverage, you're usually good to go, so I'm just going to say carbonated water, carbonated H2O, sparkling beverages, things like that. People also always ask about vaping, because there's oil, and you're ingesting the vape. Does vaping break a fast? Generally, no. You're not swallowing the oil, you're inhaling it. What I will say is that vape, the nicotine that is usually in vape, just like smoking, affects your electron transport chain. It affects NADH. That's why you get a high from it. That's why you get a buzz. The jury is still a little bit out on whether not not nicotine technically would constitute breaking a fast, but for the sake of the metabolic function of a fast, you're okay. I'm going to leave this here for now. There might be one or two more that I add, but I want to start going over the things that will break a fast. I already talked about herbal teas that have fruit in them. Now, the big one, guys. MCT oil and powder. I love that stuff and it's great for keto, but it does break a fast. There's still eight calories per gram. Unlike most fats that are nine calories per gram, MCTs only have eight. It's a little bit different. They still are digested. They still elicit a metabolic response. It's still food. It's still calories. If you have a couple of tablespoons of MCT oil, you're still looking at a couple hundred calories. That's definitely not fasting, okay? So, MCT oil does. So does coconut oil. Same kind of thing. You've got to be careful there.

Intermittent fasting - What breaks the fast? - What can I drink while fasting?

02:58
Intermittent fasting has become a very popular eating method, that I have been doing for a year or so. Or least I thought I was. I had no clue that BCAA's would break the fast, as well as 0 calorie carbonated drinks and energy drinks as well. This really changed the game for me. after a just a few days of truly fasting I've noticed differences in my body. Supplements for Weight Loss - 8 Weight Loss Supplements That Actually Work 2017

04:39
To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness Today we are going to talk about 8 weight loss supplements that actually work. Also, when talking about supplements for weight loss, there's a lot of contradictory and scammy information out there! But before that, here are 3 scams to watch out for: Watch out for Celebrity Endorsement. A common ploy I see is companies paying celebrities money to endorse supplements they don’t use or need. Watch Out for Anything Hyped Out of Its Mind. There are some wild claims about supplements these days. As a general rule of thumb, if it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Finally, Watch Out Proprietary Blends. This a common way for supplement producers mask the amounts of quality ingredients in a supplement and use a lot of filler ingredients instead. Ok, here are the 8 Weight Loss Supplements That Actually Work 1. Water Before you start looking for expensive supplements and pills, make sure to get the basics right. Getting in 100oz of water a day will have a bigger weight loss impact than most realize. Water not only boosts one’s metabolism, but it also will keep you full making it easier to fight off those pesky sugar cravings. 2. Caffeine Caffeine is a well known metabolism booster and is a common ingredient in commercial weight loss supplements. It’s most powerful effects come from the fact that it boosts the metabolism and can increase fat burning by up to 29%. You can get more caffeine in by drinking coffee or taking a caffeine pill. 3. Fish Oil While taking more “omega 3 fatty acids” doesn’t scream "weight loss", the enzymes they product can help initiate the fat burning process. More importantly, omega-3s are one of the most well researched and documented supplements of all time. They have been proven to help with blood flow, lowering triglyceride levels, reducing the effects of depression, and have many other benefits. Improving your overall health by supplementing with fish oil will help you body function more efficiently, which will help you lose weight! 4. Vitamin D Known as the sunshine hormone, an estimated 85% of people in the US are deficient in vitamin D. This is probably due to the increase in technology and less outdoor activates people are participating in these days. And similar to fish oil, it’s one of the best supplements you can take. It lowers the risk of certain cancers Improves cognitive function in the elderly Lowers the amount of fat mass on the body Lowers blood pressure Improves balance Studies suggests that if you increase your levels of Vitamin D when starting a low-calorie diet, you’ll lose more weight, including in that stubborn belly region. 5. Protein Powder Protein helps improve the metabolism, combat cravings, and reduce the loss of muscle when dieting. Keep protein powder on the go when you need a healthy meal, but there are no good options available. 6. Matcha Green Tea Powder Green tea is a popular dietary supplement for weight loss because of the antioxidant EGCG, which can boost your metabolism during exercise. It comes in a powder form as opposed to loose or bagged tea leaves. Drink 2-4 cups daily for best effects. 7. Apple Cider Vinegar ACV is a powerful health and weight loss supplement proven to help: Curb appetite Improve skin health Increases insulin sensitivity Get better nutrient absorption for your food And more Mix with 8oz of water for best effects! And now for the weight loss supplement people mis... 8. Probiotics Probiotics are live microorganisms found in the gut that help process the food we eat. In fact, during a 3-month study, women taking the probiotics lost 50% more weight compared to the group taking a dummy pill (placebo). They also continued to lose weight during the weight maintenance phase of the study. The point is, your gut health matters and taking care of it with a healthy probiotic can really work wonders. Those are the supplements for weight loss and the 8 best weight loss supplements that actually work! How Many Calories Should I Eat?

You know you probably shouldn’t hit that all-you-can-eat buffet with the gusto of an Ironman competitor, but you aren’t sure how many calories you can safely consume without gaining that flab on your stomach. To make this simple question even more confusing, it isn’t just the number of calories we consume that keeps us looking great and feeling good, but the kind of calories we consume. First, though, let’s look at a general caloric guideline for both men and women. Generally speaking, for individuals who aren’t training to swim across the English Channel or climb Mt. Everest, they can count on eating between 2000 and 2500 calories a day to maintain their weight. For women, it’s the smaller number, and men can usually stand to consume a little more due to their higher muscle mass. This causes them to burn calories at a faster rate. Anyone who increases their muscle mass; however, will burn calories faster, but there are other factors in the equation such as: - Your natural metabolic rate – the millions of chemical interactions in your body that determine how fast your heart beats, you breathe, you burn fat, etc. Most of your calories are burned every day when you are at rest. This is called your basal metabolic rate. (BMR) - Your age – As we get older we burn calories more slowly - Hormonal factors – conditions like hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism can cause you to burn calories too fast or too slow - The weather where you live – People who live in very cold or very hot climates will burn more calories to keep their bodies at a comfortable temperature - Drugs you take – many drugs can interfere with the body’s metabolism, causing it to slow down or speed up - Your level of physical activity – though most of our calories are burned when we are doing nothing, regular exercise tends to increase our BMR - Diet – the absence of certain important vitamins and minerals can either boost your metabolism or hinder it. If you don’t eat enough iodine found in leafy green vegetables, for instance, this can affect your thyroid gland and cause you to become obese To burn a pound of fat or to gain one, you will typically need to either cut 1500 calories from your diet or add them. Depending on the factors, and your goal to either lose weight or gain it, you can decide if you can hit that all-you-can-eat buffet. Just mind your reach if you’re standing behind the Olympic Swimmer Michael Phelps. He’s rumored to eat 12,000 calories a day!

How to Read Nutrition Facts | Food Labels Made Easy

05:29
To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness Today I am going to teach you guys how to read nutrition facts labels. One of the best ways to improve your health quickly is by learning how to read nutrition labels. The first thing you’ll notice at the top of nutrition facts are the serving size and servings per container. This is simply the “amount” in the package or container. Pretty self explanatory... Next you have the ingredients. Everything inside these black lines is representative of ONE serving. This is important to understand because, next you will see the calories and the calories from fat. This is pretty much the only thing most people ever look at and this is a common mistake… If the package says 200 calories on the bag of chips, but the serving per container says 2.5, that means there is actually 500 calories in the bag… This is a clever little marketing trick that you should pay attention to. Pressing on, you will see the total fat on the package along with a number and a percentage on the right hand side. The number represents the total fat in one serving and percentage represents the percentage based on a 2000 calorie diet. So 8 gram is 12% of a 2000 calorie diet. I should also remind you that fat is not bad for you and there are plenty of healthy foods that are high in fat. What you really want to watch out for is any trans fat. Trans fat is the kind linked to heart disease and all sorts of bad stuff. Avoid this at all costs. Saturated fat should be much less of a concern. This may surprise some of you, so I will link a few studies below that have conclusively proven that saturated fat is fine to eat and not the cause of the many diseases it was wrongly accused for. Think of saturated fat as the middle child of the fat family, he’s got a good heart but is just a little misunderstood. Now, you may be thinking, wait a minute… Why does the total number of saturated fat and trans fat not add up to the total fat at the top… Where’s the other 7 grams? Well this is because not all fats will be listed on the nutrition label. Only the nutrients deemed most important ever make it to the nutrition labels. Don’t worry though. The other fats not listed are generally healthy and should be much less of a concern. Pressing on you will see cholesterol and sodium. Remember, these numbers are based on ONE serving. If the sodium was 25% of your daily intake and the package had 2.5 servings in it. That means the entire package contains 63% of you daily sodium intake. Quite a bit considering this is one snack. Onward, you’ll sees the carbohydrate section. Carbohydrates are the breads, grains, fiber and SUGARS in the food. The first section you’ll see is for dietary fiber. Having a good amount of dietary fiber is a good thing as it helps with digestion and satisfaction from meals. Now the next section is what you need to pay attention to. The total sugars in the food you’re eating are important to watch out for as, like the trans fats, these have been linked to a whole host of diseases and health problems. Also you should be aware of not only the sugar in the food, but what kind of carbohydrates you’re eating. If the food is very high in carbohydrates, but low in dietary fiber, even though the carbs are not labeled as “sugar,” they will operate very similarly in the blood stream. These are called “simple carbs.” This is why you need to watch out for unrefined carbohydrates like white bread and pastas. Next up, you’ll see the label for protein. Knowing that foods high in protein lead to better satisfaction from meals, and promote lean muscle tissue, you will want most of the foods you eat to have a good amount of protein. Finally, we have a few key vitamins at the bottom. It may sound strange, but ignore these. The numbers will be notoriously low and you should be focusing instead on getting in lots of fruits and vegetables every day to meet your vitamin requirements. Leafy greens contain calcium and iron, and fruits contain vitamin c and a. The rest of the nutrition labels facts contain recommendations about how much of each category to get in. They do not change on nutrition labels and are not that important. Finally, on some labels you will see the calories per gram for each macronutrient. Fat contains 9 grams per serving and Carbohydrates and Proteins contain 4. So for every 10 grams of fat, you will have 90 calories. For every 10 grams of protein or carbs you will get 40 calories. Safe to say, you should now have a general understanding of how nutrition labels work. Most importantly, you can stop assuming something is healthy for you based on tricky packaging and start KNOWING the difference.

Counting Calories is Stupid!

10:43
For years we were all taught that it's simple to lose weight, simply burn more calories than you eat and you will lose weight. The problem is, this doesn't work as a means of permanent weight loss for 99.9% of humans. Obesity, Over-weight, Insulin Resistance, and T2DM are not calorie surplus issues, they are hormone issues. Until you fix your food and fix your hormone levels you will never lose weight and keep it off. The Standard American Diet, which is still spreading around the world, destroys your hormone balance and leads to weight gain and disease. The farther you move away from the SAD the closer you come to health and wellness. 6 Foods You Should Avoid To Lose Weight

06:05
These are 6 foods you need to avoid to lose weight. These are not necessarily things you should never eat again, but if you're looking to lose body fat you want to stay away from these. Learn what to eat to get six pack abs 🔥 FREE 6 Week Challenge: https://gravitytransformation.com Fat Loss Calculator: http://gravitytransformation.com/macro-calculator/ Are you trying to lose weight? You’re working out, you’re counting calories, but still, you’re not getting any results? It might be because you’re eating these 6 foods that keep you from shedding those extra pounds. In this video, I’ll show you exactly what foods you must stop eating to lose weight permanently… and which foods to replace them with. You’ve probably heard that the one thing that truly matters for weight loss and weight gain is calories in, calories out. If you burn more calories than you eat, you should lose weight, right? True, however, if you only eat donuts and cake, will you get the protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals you need for a lean, healthy body? You won’t - and that’s why a proper diet is so important. A calorie is not a calorie - some food are simply better for you than others. A 100 grams of fructose won’t have the same impact on the body as 100 grams of quality protein. The fructose will lead to insulin resistance, higher ghrelin levels and increased appetite, The protein will give you a feeling of fullness which will prevent overeating, not to mention that it will help you build muscle. Now that you know that calories aren’t all that matters, let’s take a look at the 7 foods you should drop if you want to lose fat. 1. Sugar With a nickname like “white death”, it’s no surprise sugar is at the top of this list. Sugar is nothing more than empty calories. It has no nutritional value, no vitamins and no minerals. It spikes your blood glucose and in the long term leads to metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular disease and especially type II diabetes. You can even get addicted to it and suffer withdrawal symptoms because sugar causes a release of dopamine in the reward center of the brain. Not to mention that it is extremely bad for you teeth. So what can you when you get the sweet tooth? Raw honey is a great substitute that won’t spike your insulin and actually has a ton of amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. 2. Refined grains Pasta, bread, and pizza are delicious. However, most of them are made out of refined grains. Refined grains are high on the glycemic index and can spike your blood sugar levels, leading to weight gain and type II diabetes. One study found that eating just two slices of white bread per day was linked to a 40% greater risk of weight gain and obesity (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25335643/). In the process of refinement, the bran and germ of the grain are removed, along with most of the nutrients. But don’t worry, you can still eat grains - just make sure they’re whole. 3. All sodas and sugary drinks, diet or not What goes for sugar goes for sugary drinks as well. If sugar is just empty calories, then sugary drinks are liquid calories. The problem with these is that we don’t really detect them. You can drink a whole meal’s worth of calories and still be hungry. A single bottle of Coca-Cola “only” has 184 calories, but even if you just have one or two a day, they add up quickly. The best solution is to simply cut them out completely and drink water. 4. Alcohol Alcohol has more calories per gram than carbs or protein - 7. That means it is easy to go over your week’s calories on a Friday night out. But it’s not just the calories. Alcohol is a poison to the body. When you drink it, the liver burns alcohol instead of fat - stopping your fat burning for several hours. For example, a regular beer has 150 calories. A few of those, and some fast food at the end of the night can quickly come out to over 1000 in calories. If you want to drink, do it in moderation. 5. Salt Unlike most of this list, salt is the one thing you shouldn’t give up on. The two minerals found in it - sodium and chloride - are both necessary for optimal function of the body. Going too low leads to higher LDL levels, increased insulin resistance, increased risk of death from heart disease, heart failure and type II diabetes. However, too much salt has been linked to stomach cancer. In fact, people with high salt intake have a 68% higher risk of stomach cancer. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22296873) Over 90% of Americans eat too much salt (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22854410/). But most of that comes from processed foods, which we know are bad. If you stop eating processed foods most of the time, you don’t need to worry about salt too much. Trans fat Eating fat doesn’t make you fat and not all fats are bad for you. However, trans fats should definitely be avoided. Short for trans fatty acids

Drinking Lemon Water - Health Benefits and Myths

03:41
Learn about the true benefits of lemon water, as well as the myths. Subscribe NOW for more videos: http://bit.ly/anvideos Lemon water has become popular on the back of claims it helps improve your mood, energy levels, immune system and metabolic health. In fact, many celebrities swear by it and there are even diets based entirely on lemons. Lemon water is simply the juice from lemons mixed with water. The amount of lemon you use depends on your personal preference, and whether your take it hot or cold makes no difference to health. This is the nutrient breakdown for one glass of water mixed with the juice from half a lemon: Calories: 9. Sugars: Less than 1 gram. Vitamin C: 25% of the RDI. Folate: 1% of the RDI. Potassium: 1% of the RDI. One glass does not seem to provide a lot of nutrients, but drinking lemon water is a low-calorie and low-sugar beverage that can boost your vitamin C intake. For comparison, if you replaced half a lemon with half an orange, it would double the calories and sugar in your drink. Benefits of Lemon Water Numerous human studies have found lemon juice can help treat kidney stones. Lemon contains high amounts of citrate, a compound that restores the urine’s ability to prevent kidney stone formation. Lemon water appears to be a good alternative for those who don’t tolerate citrate supplementation, which is the first-line treatment for kidney stones. Considering lemon water is water with a bit of lemon added, it has all the benefits of regular water. Drinking plenty of water can have benefits for weight loss, mental health, digestive health and athletic performance. Common Myths About Lemon Water and Health There are many additional health claims surrounding lemon water, but most are not supported by any scientific evidence. In fact, some have even been disproven. The most common are: Myth 1: The Fiber in it Helps You Lose Weight Lemons contain a type of fiber called pectin, which helps reduce your appetite and calorie intake. However, lemon water is basically filtered, heavily diluted lemon juice, which leaves it with only trace amounts of pectin. Even a whole lemon only contains 2 grams of fiber in total. Myth 2: It Alkalizes Your Body According to proponents of the alkaline diet, foods leave an “ash” in your system that influences the pH of your body— how acidic or alkaline it becomes. Lemon water is said to be alkalizing. However, neither the pH of your blood nor cells can be altered by what we eat. Myth 3: It Fights Cancer This claim is built on the premise that cancer cells cannot thrive in an alkaline environment, but studies show they can. Additionally, cancer cells create their own acidic environment, and eating "alkalizing food" doesn’t stop it. Myth 4: It Cleanses and Detoxes Water helps eliminate waste from your body through urination and healthy bowel movements. However, nothing in lemon water improves this process. In fact, most claims that foods or beverages cleanse or detoxify your organs are simply untrue. It's also worth noting the acid in lemons can damage your tooth enamel over time, which makes your teeth more prone to cavities. So don't drink it after you brush your teeth. All that said, lemon water is a safe, flavorful alternative to plain water that has several health benefits. However, if you already eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of fluids, then lemon water will be of no nutritional benefit. You should drink it for the taste rather than the health benefits. Dr. Berg talks about salad and how much potassium is needed by our bodies on a daily basis. Salads with fats can allow the fat-soluble vitamins to be extracted. Most people do not even come close to the quantity needed. A person needs 7-10 cups or ounces per day. Salads help weight loss by providing potassium to turn off sugar cravings. Muscle Building Diet Mistake (EAT BIG | GET BIG!)

09:27
Follow this meal plan for more gains - http://athleanx.com/x/meals Subscribe to this channel here - http://bit.ly/2b0coMW When you are eating to build muscle, you’ve got to avoid two big diet mistakes if you want to gain appreciable amounts of muscle. The first is to stop using the word diet. This implies a short term solution when what you really need is a long term, lifetime approach to eating. The second is to stop listening to the age old advice of “eat big, get big” since it just is not true. In this video, I show you the real problem that is keeping you or someone you know too skinny. Often times it has nothing to do with the amount of calories that are being taken in on a daily basis, but rather the quality of the calories that are being eaten. I’m going to show you real world examples of how this plays out time and time again. Using myself as the example, and hardgainer Jesse as well, you will get to see exactly what I ate as a child that was holding back the gains I was supposed to be seeing. To begin, most skinny guys are eating enough calories. I know, shocking huh? It isn’t some super high metabolism that is keeping them skinny. That helps a bit, but more importantly, there is a dearth of quality calories coming in that often times derails the pursuit of muscle growth. A true muscle building diet should contain high amounts of each food, but only after the quality of that food is secured. Muscle building diets should consist of the standby ingredients like oatmeal, vegetables, protein sources, etc. That said, the type of diet plan that I show you here (with a sample breakfast) is devoid of most of these let alone vitamins, minerals and good overall dense calories. This can be fixed however, if you allow for a bit of a transition time rather than trying to reach your goal right away. The problem most people make is trying to make too large of a change right away. Instead, what you want to do is see if you can identify a middle ground between how you are currently eating and how you know you should be eating. If you can do this, you can more easily take steps to start eating more in line with where you want to go rather than forcing yourself to try and adopt this completely foreign way to feed yourself. Remember, if it feels too much like work, then your mind is eventually going to treat it like work and sooner or later you are going to want to “call in sick”! Eat like an athlete and treat your food as fuel and you will realize just how important good nutrition is to your overall development and performance. If you want a complete step by step, meal by meal eating plan to go along with your daily workouts, head to http://athleanx.com and get your ATHLEAN-X Training System. For more info: https://draxe.com/vitamin-d-deficiency-symptoms/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Apr-2015&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=vitaminddeficiency In this video I’m going to talk about the benefits of vitamin D as well as symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. In certain studies, Americans has been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency. Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more. The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (bpa), and toxicity. Try to get outside everyday for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight. Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat. For a good supplement, I would recommend a high quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body. Health Benefits of Cinnamon

06:01
For more info: https://draxe.com/health-benefits-cinnamon/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Jun-2015&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=cinnamon In today’s video, I want to talk about the incredible health benefits of cinnamon. Cinnamon has been used for over 4,000 years and was used as a holy anointing oil in the Bible, having incredible therapeutic and antioxidant benefits. Some of the ways I recommend using cinnamon are: 1. For healing any skin conditions 2. For diabetes 3. Improving energy levels (helps with weight loss and balancing hormones) 4. Helps heal and cure candida (improves UTI) The cinnamon you’re consuming needs to be ceylon instead of cassia. Ceylon cinnamon is better for you internally and doesn’t have any of the side effects that cassia has. Some of the best ways to get cinnamon in your diet is by adding it to your morning smoothie or a homemade dessert. If you want to learn more about the top healing herbs in the world, check out this article: http://draxe.com/the-top-14-herbs-of-the-bible/ *This content is strictly the opinion of Dr. Josh Axe, and is for informational and educational purposes only. Is Rice Healthy?

06:10
For more info: https://draxe.com/brown-rice-nutrition/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Sept-2015&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=rice Today I am answering the question, “Is rice healthy?” and explaining the difference between white rice and brown rice. My answer is that it really depends on you. I will show you the pros and cons of rice and go over what I believe is the healthiest rice today. There is a debate today about if you should consume rice or not: ⁃ The paleo diet community says to stay grain-free and therefore that rice is not healthy ⁃ Chinese medicine followers and vegans think rice can be an incredible superfood I believe there is validity to both but it depends on the person and the preparation of the rice. Rice to stay away from: Refined White Rice (This is not jasmine or basmati rice but the sticky white rice from fast food or Chinese restaurants.) Rice Cons: • Fiber, minerals and vitamins have been removed. • Study shows that people are twice as likely to develop diabetes as opposed to those eating whole grain brown rice. • Contains phytic acid (enzyme inhibitor) which keeps you from absorbing and digesting vitamins and minerals. • Contains proteins that are difficult to digest Rice Pros: • Whole grain brown rice is high in B3 which is good for heart health. • Whole grain brown rice is high in selenium which supports the thyroid and kidneys. • Certain types of rice contain GABA, a neurotransmitter that can support the brain and help reduce anxiety as well as support metabolism. So ... is rice healthy? Is brown rice healthy? It depends on how it is prepared. I believe if rice is soaked and sprouted, it unlocks the vitamins and minerals versus most rices that aren’t sprouted. I personally consume an organic rice from the company, True Roots. It is a germinated brown rice (soaked and sprouted) which kills off phytic acid and is easier to digest. In Chinese medicine, look up “qi” or “chi.” They believe that short grain brown rice increase your body’s “qi” which is your body’s life source and energy. It is considered to be one of the #1 healing foods. I suggest my patients make a “congee” with chicken bone broth, brown rice and vegetables such as carrots and celery. This chicken vegetable rice soup is healing and nourishing to the body. In conclusion, is rice healthy? Yes, it can be if you are doing sprouted rice that is traditionally prepared. Simply put, stay away from white refined rice that is void of vitamins and minerals and can cause a spike in your blood sugar and insulin levels. *This content is strictly the opinion of Dr. Josh Axe, and is for informational and educational purposes only. 7 Tips about Vitamins for Infants | Baby Development

01:59
Watch more Newborn & Baby Development videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/506163-7-Tips-about-Vitamins-for-Infants-Baby-Development A newborn baby who is breastfed should start taking Vitamin D supplements at approximately two weeks of age. We like to make sure that the latch is established and the baby is breastfeeding well, but after that we do like to introduce Vitamin D, because the Vitamin D in breast milk is not transferred well and absorbed well by the baby, so those babies do need extra Vitamin D. It's sold over the counter. It's one dropper full, which is one mL, 400 units per day. Babies who are bottle-fed standard cow's milk or soy milk formula or any of the standardized formulas, actually, they are all supplemented with vitamins, so you do not need to give a baby who is on formula vitamins. That being said, some parents do believe in vitamins, and they like to give supplements. Vitamins for children do not cause harm if used in a small dosage, like the recommended child dosage that's over the counter. After age one, the baby can take the liquid drops. There are certain name brands, but it's a children multi-vitamin that's over the counter. If your doctor recommends that your baby needs iron, you might give a vitamin supplemented with iron as well. At four months, sometimes babies need more iron, especially babies who are not taking solids yet. So at four months, some doctors recommend Vitamin D drops with iron or a multi-vitamin with iron for your baby. Those are not written with a prescription, but you should discuss with your doctor what vitamins your baby needs or does not need. In addition, in different states and different localities, some of the water is fluorinated and some is not, so you need to find out if the water in your child's neighborhood is fluorinated or if you need to give your child a fluoride supplement. In New York City, the water has fluoride, so we do not give our children fluoride in the drops because that would be excess fluoride, and it would cause staining of the teeth. As a child grows, if your child eats a well-balanced diet, they do not need to take a vitamin. I often say that the more expensive the vitamin, the more expensive the urine because they usually just excrete most of it out.

FOOD MARKETING LIES

10:02
From No trans fat labels, to hiding controversial ingredients, here are Food marketing lies! Subscribe to American Eye http://goo.gl/GBphkv 5. Antioxidants Studies have shown that more people will buy foods with antioxidants for no other apparent reason. It’s found in chocolate, 7up, raisins, wine, fruit juice etc. What are they though? They’re enzymes in your body that inhibit oxidation and prevent cell damage. Keeps your immune system supercharged. Some serious hype was formed from antioxidants in the 1990’s but some are curious is the hype is worth it. Sure antioxidants are great and all but they’re also popping up in unhealthy foods. Adding cherry flavoring and high fructose corn syrup to the mix doesn’t necessarily make it a whole lot healthier 4. No Juice No Sweetener Here we see an example of a capri sun which has been labeled as having no artificial flavors and other natural flavors. The only weird part about them saying they have natural flavors is that in the nutritional facts section the label says that it contains no juice! So where did this mysterious flavoring come from? It’s not artificial and not from fruit juice, is it from the twilight zone or what? The drink still contains high fructose corn syrup, sucralose, splenda, and natural flavor. Sure there are no artificial colors but it’s chock full of sweetner. Don’t forget that Castoreum is a yellowish secretion from the beaver which is often mixed with their urine in order for them to mark their territory. Someone randomly decided to give it a taste and found out that it tasted like strawberries and raspberries! This is often given a labelling of natural flavor 3. More Natural Flavoring You might come across a bottle of vitamin water and think what could possibly be unhealthy about this and the 0 calorie vitamin water must be even better right? A new sweetener is on the loose that is found in a plant but it can be processed to be 150 times sweeter than sugar. The process used to create this extraordinarily sweet food is anything but natural, using chemicals such as ethanol, isopropanol and other complicated chemicals. You can see it labeled on this bottle as stevia extract and coca cola has begun using it in a variety of products that will label it as organic. If it’s so natural, why did coca cola want to patent their process of extracting the stevia sweetner from the plant?. Some studies would insist that something this sweet can cause this body to act in a similar manner as if it were consuming something actually 2. Grass Fed Beef We would all love to believe that beef labeled as grass fed is from cows who roamed around on pastures, eating green grass living life the way they were meant to live, until they get slaughtered at a butcher house. It’s not always clear to some people though how farmers are able to get that label. Basically they just have to apply for it from the USDA to get accepted. Grass fed beef is typically more expensive and can sell for a better price at grocery stores so it’sclear why people want to get that label. In order for it to really be grass fed beef, you need to see the words, US Grass Fed accompanied by USDA Process Verified 1. Frozen food Not only are there probably hidden trans fats in that microwavable pizza, frozen foods are a mystery on their own. When it comes to frozen food, what you see is not always what you’re going to get, kind of like how this person got ripped off. How long can frozen food still stay good for, is what many people are asking and there seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding them. Frozen foods don’t require any preservatives because freezing the food keeps it edible for a long period of time. However, when they reach these drastically low temperatures, often under 0 degrees, they begin to lose flavor. Many items such as fish, chicken or beef can be frozen for over a year before you put them in the microwave. Frozen foods can often be labeled as fresh but when it reality, the food company just froze it while it was fresh and sells it when demand reaches their requirement. Most fruits and veggies you don’t have to worry much about them

If You Eat 2 Eggs at Breakfast For a Month, This is What Happens to Your Body

03:16
Please Subscribe! ▶ https://goo.gl/ksfh7M Eggs, whether boiled, poached, or scrambled, they are a great way to start your day. These little orbs are a great source of protein and amino-acids. Proteins are the building blocks of life. Every cell in the human-body contains protein. The basic structure of protein is a chain of amino-acids. You need protein in your diet to help your body repair cells and make new ones. Eggs are one of the few foods with complete proteins, that is, they contain proper proportions of all nine essential amino acids required by the body. They are also packed with numerous vitamins and minerals including Vitamin-A, vitamin-B12, Vitamin-D, Vitamin-E, folate, selenium, choline, and others. Eggs are one of the highest protein breakfast options One of the key steps you can take to help manage their appetite throughout the morning is to ensure that their breakfast choice has enough protein. 2-eggs served with 2 slices of wholegrain toast contain at least 20g of protein, much of which is of ‘high biological value’ protein, which means it is easily used in the body. This means that choosing eggs for breakfast will give you at least 25% more protein than other popular breakfast choices. Here are few of the many Amazing Health Benefits your body receives If You Eat 2 Eggs at Breakfast For a Month 1.Eggs Raises the Good Cholesterol Eating eggs leads to elevated levels of HDL (High-density lipoprotein), which is also known as the “good” cholesterol. People who have higher HDL levels have a lower risk of heart disease, stroke and other health issues. According to one study, eating two eggs a day for six weeks increased the good-cholesterol level by 10-percent. 2.Can Help You lose That Extra weight Forget counting calories and cutting out carbs. The key to losing weight could be as simple as having 2-eggs for breakfast. Scientists have shown that those who start their day with poached, boiled or scrambled eggs can lose up to two-thirds more weight than others. The secret of the egg's success lies in its ability to make us feel full for longer than many other foods there-by consuming less calories. 3.Eggs help with brain development and memory. Choline, an essential nutrient found in eggs, stimulates brain development and function. It has also been linked with increasing memory-power and alertness 4.2 Eggs at breakfast can protect your eyesight. Two antioxidants, leutin and zeaxanthin, are present in eggs and have been linked to protecting eyes from damage related to Ultra-Violet exposure. They have also been associated with reducing the likelihood of developing cataracts in your old age 5.Strong Bones Hard-boiled eggs provide Vitamin-D to keep your bones and teeth strong. Vitamin-D promotes the absorption of calcium and regulates calcium levels in your blood. This process ensures that your skeleton gets the calcium it needs for strength and structure. You need 600 international units of Vitamin-D each day, reports the Office of Dietary Supplements. You get about 45 international units of Vitamin-D from one large hard-boiled egg. 10 Health Benefits of Grapefruits

05:30
Important: Medications can interact with all forms of grapefruit - the fresh fruit, juice or even the frozen concentrate can result in problems. Interactions may occur with commonly used drugs - such as those that lower cholesterol, treat high blood pressure, or fight cancer. If you drink grapefruit juice, always have your pharmacist check for drug interactions with any new prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) drug. Oranges and lemons are the most commonly used citrus fruits. But did you know that grapefruits can be great for your health? Grapefruits can be good for your body in many ways. In fact, grapefruit is known as the “fruit from paradise” because it’s very helpful to your health, and can also stop sicknesses from coming. Grapefruits are full of vitamin C, a strong antioxidant. They also have vitamin A, potassium, folate, thiamin, vitamin B6, calcium, iron, copper, phosphorus, and magnesium, and some phytonutrients and flavonoids. Here are the top 10 ways grapefruit can be good for your health. 1. Aids Weight Loss Grapefruits are good for people trying to lose weight  because they are full of vitamin C, fiber, and water. The vitamin C will help your metabolic system work properly and also control the breaking down of fats, which will help the body burn fat. 2. Stabilizes Blood Sugar The American Diabetes Association advises people with diabetes to eat grapefruit. This is because grapefruit is a low- glycemic food, and does not cause blood sugar to rise right after it’s eaten. 3. Protects Against Cancer Grapefruit can help lower the risk of cancers of the stomach, colon, bladder, breast, and esophagus. 4. Reduces Risk of Kidney Stones Drinking grapefruit juice every day can help lessen the risk of calcium oxalate kidney stones. Because grapefruits have so much citric acid they can stop stones from forming, and even break up small stones that have already formed. Citric acid makes the urine unfit for stones to form. 5. Protects Heart Health Grapefruits are also good for our heart health, because they are full of vitamin C. They also have a lot of potassium, which works as a vasodilator, which means that it helps the blood vessels and arteries relax. This lowers blood pressure and lessens the risk of heart attacks and strokes. 6. Lowers Bad Cholesterol Grapefruits have a few flavonoids. The main flavonoid hesperidin in grapefruits raises ‘good’ high- density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and lowers ‘bad’ low- density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides. A study done in 2006 showed that eating only one grapefruit a day can help lower your LDL cholesterol levels by 15.5 percent and triglycerides by 27 percent. 7. Boosts Immunity Grapefruits help raise immunity and lessen the  problem of getting infections and common colds. 8. Improves Skin Health The vitamin C in grapefruit is also good for healthy skin. Vitamin C is needed to make healthy collagen which helps keep your skin plump and smooth. Also, because of the grapefruit’s antioxidants, it fights the body’s cell aging that’s caused by harmful free radicals. 9. Fights Gum Disease Because grapefruits have so much vitamin C, they are very helpful for fighting gum disease. A healthy gum line is important for strong teeth. A study done in 2005 showed that eating grapefruit every day lessened gum bleeding in people with gum disease. 10. Cleanses the Liver Grapefruits can help clean out poisons from the liver because it has glutathione, a strong antioxidant that gets rid of free radicals. The phytonutrients in grapefruit, called limonoids, help take  toxins out of the liver by making them melt from water. Also, the flavonoid compound called naringenin helps the liver burn fat, instead of storing it. Make sure to always buy grapefruit that are firm and springy to the touch. For extra health, choose the pink and red grapefruits. Keep grapefruits stored at room temperature before juicing them to get the most out of them. To better the taste if you find that your grapefruit juice is too bitter or sour, add juice form green apples or carrots. Apart from this your weight loss also depends on your water consumption. We all know that water is an essential component of our body as 70% of our body is made of water. Water plays a vital role in proper working of your liver, kidney, digestive system and other body functions. According to experts water boosts ups your body metabolism and aids in weight loss process. It is suggested by fitness experts to consume more 8 glasses of water every day to flush out toxins and melt fats from your body. Scroll over to find how water does wonders on your weight loss: 1. Drink Lemon Water Lemons are said to cut fats in your body. Drinking a glass of lukewarm water to which lemon juice has been added is said to boost up metabolism. Follow this trick every morning on an empty stomach. Give a gap of at least 30 minutes before you consume your breakfast. 2. Reduce Appetite Drink a glass of water 20 minutes of each meal. This will fill up your stomach and prevent you from adding extra calories in your meals. 3. Water Bottles Invest in cute water bottles to keep yourself motivated to drink water. These bottles will also work as reminder for you to drink water on timely basis. 4. Ice It Up Rev up your weight loss process and boost up your metabolism by drinking ice cold water. Our body tries to maintain a warm temperature of about 98.6 degrees. Drinking ice cold water brings the body temperature down and your metabolism starts to work on bringing the body temperature back to normal. 5. Infuse Water With Ginger Take a cup of warm water and add a few slices of lemon and a knob of ginger and let it sit for few minutes and drink this concoction to aid weight loss. This infused drink helps to remove toxins from your body and burns excess calories. 6. Water Basics Make sure that you keep your body hydrated by consuming 8 to 10 glasses of water every day. Use water tracking apps or maintain a water log to track your water intake. Make sure you drink water after you use restroom to replenish your body. Drink water after consuming tea or coffee to restore water balance. 7. Eat Fruits And Vegetables Consume lots of fresh fruits and vegetables to hydrate your body. Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar Before Bedtime Will Change Your Life For Good

04:45
Although Apple Cider Vinegar has an overpowering acidic taste, you don’t have to drink it straight to benefit from its amazing properties. Some of those properties include raw enzymes and the promotion of good bacteria in the digestive tract. In order to avoid the taste, some people will substitute Apple Cider Vinegar for regular vinegar when pickling their favorite vegetables, or pair it with olive oil to make a salad dressing with a little kick. However, by simply diluting Apple Cider Vinegar or adding it to tea before bedtime you can significantly improve several areas of your health. Consider a few ways that ACV helps if you take it before bedtime: 1. Halitosis You know that awful taste in your mouth that you wake up with in the morning? It’s probably due to too much bacteria in your mouth. Drinking one tablespoon with eight ounces of water and a slice of lemon before bed, will keep that bacteria at bay and let you wake up more refreshed. 2. Lower Blood Sugar Some people have difficulties sleeping because of a peak in their blood sugar level at night. It’s one of the leading causes of insomnia, and it also impedes the body from burning fat. Apple Cider Vinegar lowers blood sugar levels because it increases insulin sensitivity. If you aren’t already on blood sugar medicine, try taking two teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar right before bed each evening and see if you don’t have a more restful night. If you are taking prescription medication for diabetes, please speak with your doctor before using this natural remedy. 3. Hiccups This nice trick overrides nerves in your throat that are responsible for hiccups. If these nerves have to deal with powerful taste in Apple Cider Vinegar, hiccups become less of an issue. For this, you’ll need to drink one undiluted teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar. 4. Sinus Relief If you’ve got a stopped up nose because it’s pollen season again, don’t forget about Apple Cider Vinegar. Rather than reaching for an over-the-counter decongestant, rely on the B vitamins to work with the potassium and magnesium in Apple Cider Vinegar, to loosen up your sinuses so you can breathe easier. 5. Drop Unwanted Pounds More and more people are incorporating Apple Cider Vinegar into their weight loss regimen. However, did you know that not getting a good night’s sleep is also associated with being overweight? Researchers now know that Apple Cider Vinegar inhibits the body when it tries to convert starches into calories. Not only that, but it also reduces your appetite. The pectin it contains actually makes you feel more satisfied, so when it’s time to go to bed and your hungry, sip a little Apple Cider Vinegar tea to feel satisfied and sleep better. 6. Reflux Remedy When your stomach is void of the necessary amount of acid, it tends to move around to do the job that the full amount would easily do. When that happens, some of the acid can sneak up the esophagus and burn your throat. Apple Cider Vinegar helps to replace that stomach acid and balance your intestinal tract. Try a tablespoon with a full glass of water about an hour before lying down. 7. Sore Throat Apple Cider Vinegar is a powerful anti-bacterial. Its acidity helps kill bacteria that live in the back of your throat. If you have a sore throat, in thirty minute intervals, take one teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar. About an hour before bed, drink one teaspoon. After thirty minutes, drink another. Finally, drink the third just before bed. 8. Restless Legs If you have restless legs or are often plagued with leg cramps in the middle of the night, it’s probably a sign that you’re not getting enough potassium in your diet. By adding two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar to eight ounces of water, you can quickly boost your potassium levels and avoid these annoying issues. 9. Upset Stomach Sometimes a simple remedy like Apple Cider Vinegar can settle an upset stomach. Again, by helping restore the pH level in the digestive tract, you can rid yourself of excess gas and even stomach cramping. Try a warm cup of water with one teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar to calm an upset stomach. How to Lose Weight Without Doing One Minute of Exercise

02:02
Before I start, I want to let you know I’m not condoning zero exercise. In fact, exercise is freaking awesome and something you should try to do every day. However, I am here to tell you that if your primary concern is weight loss, exercise is merely the icing on the cake. 90% of your waistline battle is won or lost in the kitchen (or at the restaurant table, or at the drive-thru window, etc.) Warning: this will ask you to possibly make some substantial changes to your diet – are you up for it? Eat Real Food I’m a huge fan of the food philosophy presented in books like The Paleo Diet, Good Calories Bad Calories, and sites like Mark’s Daily Apple. Why? Because they make this diet thing so simple and logical even a caveman could understand it. My apologies if you’re a caveman. If you’re new to the “Paleo Diet” concept, here it is in a nutshell. Rather than list what you can’t eat, here’s what you CAN eat: REAL foods – veggies, lean meats, fish, eggs, fruit, and nuts. Why does this work? Because you’re only eating foods that you’re genetically engineered to thrive on: high quality, high energy REAL foods. Not from a box, not from a bag, not from a window. Food from the earth. Yay nature. Cut Way Back on the Rest Bread, cereal, pasta, fried food, rice, bagels, doughnuts, waffles, chips, tortillas, candy etc. – these things are all loaded with carbs (and if they’re processed – refined carbs and sugar), and I’ll bet a million Monopoly dollars they’re the cause of 99% of the population’s weight problem. I’m not telling you to give all of this stuff up completely – I’m just telling you that this is probably the reason the weight isn’t coming off of your frame. Here’s why: Most grains, refined carbs and sugar were nonexistent way back in the day, which means our bodies never quite adapted to properly process them. If you want to understand more why our bodies have such an issue with grains and carbs, this is the best article I’ve read. Here’s a great video to explain why refined carbs make you fat: Video – Why You Got Fat Today’s general recommended diet ratio of 50-60% carbs, 30% protein, 10-20% fat is so far off it’s ridiculous. I’m sorry, but it is. This ratio has been pushed on the public for decades, and new “low fat” items continue to pop up every day…and yet the country continues to get wider and bigger and fatter. Something’s not right. How I Know it Works Although I’ve recently added some grains back into my diet to bulk up (oats, flaxseed bread, and brown rice), I can attest to the fact that the Paleo Diet absolutely works. In the four months that I switched to a Paleo diet (my ratio was probably 40% fat, 40% protein, and 20% carbs), my body fat percentage dropped from 12% down to 5%. Besides myself, many NF readers have lost quite a bit of weight from making this change as well. If you’re interested in giving the Paleo Diet a shot, check out this GREAT resource. Pick a few things on the list, put together your meals, and you will lose weight. If you’re interested in learning more about ‘going paleo,’ Mark’s Primal Blueprint 101 is a great place to get your feet wet. Cut Out Liquid Calories Soda, beer, juice, margaritas Gatorade, vitamin water, cappuccinos, fruit coolatas – avoid them whenever possible (except for beer on St. Patty’s Day…come on.) These beverages are all loaded with sugar which immediately turn to fat in your system. And switching from a 12 pack of Coke to a 12 pack of Diet Coke might not solve your problems either. Read my article why Diet Coke might make you fat. My advice: chug water like it’s your job. It will curb your appetite, keep your insides running properly, and give you an excuse to get up and go for a walk to the bathroom every thirty minutes. No Paleo? Eat Less Than Before! Don’t want to change what you eat? Welp, you’re just going to count calories (using a site like DailyBurn). It’s a pain in the ass, but it works. Here are the three equations you need to know: Calories consumed Calories burned = weight gain. Calories consumed Calories burned = weight loss. 3500 less calories per week = 1 pound of fat weight loss. As explained in the video above, the types of you food you eat is more important than these equations let on, but just creating a caloric deficit will still produce weight loss although far less

Nutrition Hierarchy: Fiber and Water

03:41
Here is the third most important principle when organizing your diet. Once you have established calories and macro nutrient balance you can then start to look at fiber and water content in your diet.
