Click Here to Subscribe: http://Bit.ly/ThomasVid Website: http://ThomasDeLauer.com What Breaks a Fast and What Does NOT Break a Fast - The Official Video - Thomas DeLauer So many people have asked the awesome questions about specific foods breaking a fast or not breaking a fast, so I figured, what the heck, why don't I just lay it out for you. I'm going to list out foods that are fasting-safe, or should I say drinks, and things that are fasting-safe. But, then I'm going to list out things that are no-gos, things that will definitely break a fast. I'm going to give you a little bit of the science, too. Then I'm going to talk about the gray area. What I mean by gray area is there are going to be things that may or may not break a fast. It's still undecided. The jury is still out. I'll give you my honest opinion on it, so you can take it for what it's worth. But first off, let's go ahead and let's talk about a couple of things that are good to go while you're fasting. First and foremost, we know that good, old-fashioned H2O is good to go. Unless you're doing a dry fast, water is not going to cause a problem. You're good to go. Kind of an obvious one. The next one I want to talk about, green tea. Very powerful, that epigallocatechin-3-gallate, that EGCG, is really powerful. Allows your body to mobilize fats quite a bit better, so it's a very good thing to be drinking while you're fasting. Then, we've got coffee, of course. Coffee will not break a fast as long as it's black. Totally good to go. Again, the caffeine mobilizing fatty acids. You're good there. It's going to help expedite the process of fasting. It's going to help expedite glycogen removal, or should I say, storage, that the carbs and the glycogen and the glucose isn't in your bloodstream anymore. It goes into the muscles. We definitely want that, so that's powerful. Here's a kind of a weird one. It's going to be most teas, black, green, or whatever, but I have to say this now, certain herbal teas with fruit. You see some herbal teas out there, the have little chunks of apple, they have little chunks of berries that are dehydrated. You're getting the fructose from those fruits, so I would highly recommend staying away from those. That's a no-go. So then, back to the fasting-safe, now we've got different sodas that I want to talk about. Zevia, for one, I've talked about this in a video. That's a soda that's sweetened with Stevia, so you're good to go there. And, as much as I hate to say this, I'm going to go on the record by saying I don't think that aspartame is good. I don't think it's healthy, but a lot of people ask. Diet Coke, diet sodas, you're going to be okay. Aspartame doesn't technically break a fast. So, you're okay there. I just don't think it's the best thing to do, but I know that a lot of you are wondering that, so I'm going to go ahead and say it. When we look at any kind of carbonated beverage, you're usually good to go, so I'm just going to say carbonated water, carbonated H2O, sparkling beverages, things like that. People also always ask about vaping, because there's oil, and you're ingesting the vape. Does vaping break a fast? Generally, no. You're not swallowing the oil, you're inhaling it. What I will say is that vape, the nicotine that is usually in vape, just like smoking, affects your electron transport chain. It affects NADH. That's why you get a high from it. That's why you get a buzz. The jury is still a little bit out on whether not not nicotine technically would constitute breaking a fast, but for the sake of the metabolic function of a fast, you're okay. I'm going to leave this here for now. There might be one or two more that I add, but I want to start going over the things that will break a fast. I already talked about herbal teas that have fruit in them. Now, the big one, guys. MCT oil and powder. I love that stuff and it's great for keto, but it does break a fast. There's still eight calories per gram. Unlike most fats that are nine calories per gram, MCTs only have eight. It's a little bit different. They still are digested. They still elicit a metabolic response. It's still food. It's still calories. If you have a couple of tablespoons of MCT oil, you're still looking at a couple hundred calories. That's definitely not fasting, okay? So, MCT oil does. So does coconut oil. Same kind of thing. You've got to be careful there.

Want to Lose Weight? Try Counting Calories

That was the finding of a new study that should be satisfying to anyone who counts calories for weight control.More than one billion adults are overweight. The World Health Organization calls obesity a global epidemic. Government researchers have just reported their latest estimates for the United States. The good news: obesity rates have not increased much in recent years. The bad news: they have not decreased either. More than one-third of adults were obese in two thousand nine and two thousand ten. Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows there are all kinds of conflicting diet plans. Some tell people not to eat carbohydrates. Others say not to eat fats. Still others say to eat more protein. Or to eat less protein. Dr. George Bray at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana led the new study. He wanted to know if protein affects weight gain. Twenty-five healthy adults were in the study. They were overfed by almost a thousand calories a day over an eight-week period. Calories in food are a measure of energy. The people followed diets with low, normal or high levels of protein. Normal was defined as fifteen percent of energy from protein. Dr. Bray says all of them gained weight: "Fat storage was exactly the same with all three levels of protein. It was the calories that they ate that affected the body fat that they stored." Those who ate a higher percentage of protein gained more lean body mass. Dr. Bray says the opposite happened on a low protein diet: "If your protein intake's low, you'll actually lose body mass even though you're eating an excess amount of calories."He tells his patients to weigh themselves regularly so they can know quickly if they gain weight. His study appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association.Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian at the Harvard School of Public Health studies the relationship between diet and conditions like heart disease and diabetes. He says, "We don't need to go down a list of 'avoid this, avoid that' -- become, you know, food police. It's really actually mostly foods that should be increased. It's fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, vegetable oils and nuts." Now sitting there taking deep breaths may not be the best way to detoxify using your lungs. I promise you that if you do some intense exercising you won't be breathing like short shallow breaths, you're going to be breathing really really deep. But I took care of my husband and saved him. So. On 30th September noon he experienced shivering severe headache and fever. I Immediately gave him crocin and asked him to relax.But his fever continued for another hour. We rushed to the general practitioner in the evening. He examined and immediately told that my husband is suffering from dengue (Though not proved since there was no Blood Test Report) . He gave paracetamol , vitamin B complex tablets and anti vomit tablets . We returned home, I gave my husband soup and that anti vomiting tab and he vomited at the very 11th sip of the soup. Next day onwards I took a good care and he started showing recovery. His blood t4est was scheduled on 2nd OCt (for dengue) . We took the test and he tested positive for dengue. His Blood Platelets were 255000 but WBC dropped to 3500 (4000 is the minimum value) . We again rushed to the same doctor. He said “ Abhi Fever mei toh WBC girta hi hai...and kal (4th day of dengue fever ) se platelets bhi girenge.” I requested him to give some medication for Platelets and WBC , but he denied saying “Platelets ki dawai hum Platelets girne k baad hi de sakte and WBC ki koi dawa nahi Jyada hua toh we will admit him.” And, on 5th day his blood test was again scheduled followed by evening appointment. I returned home and took a firm determination that I wont let his platelet drop and will improve his health condition too. I searched net like a crazy and formed his diet chart (on the basis of dengue symptoms) and also found a miracle home remedy for Platelets - Papaya leaf Juice. And also neem juice for making him fit soon. Next morning onwards I used to leave home at 8 AM to find and pluck leaves of neem and papaya and gave it to my husband. On 5th morning the Blood Test (CBC) again took place. And , now my husband’s platlets increased to 266000 . Thus, girne ki jagah maine apne mehnat se use 10000 se badha diya.But WBC dropped to 23000. We went to doc again , he said all is well and ab kal se fever chala jayega. (I took a relaxed breath) .But suddenly at night my husband's condition got worse (That morning-after the blood test- he vomited the papaya leaf juice and also was watching movies the entire day) . I immediately googled the best Dengue Specialist doctor at Pune and took my husband to him. He then changed the entire medication and gave antibiotic, A tablet containing papaya leaf juice extract and a Tablet for constipation. After two doses of this new doctor’s medicine my Husband’s fever finally dropped. Now he has almost recovered. But my advice to all you reading this is never blindly trust the doctors. They sometimes are just looking forward to admit you and loot you. I would give following tips if you or any of your loved one is suffering from dengue. Follow this and you will never have to admit to see any loved one suffering from dengue. Home Remedy: Papaya Leaf Juice : If the platelets haven't started dropping (is already above 150000) then twice a day crush 2 leaves of papaya leaf . Grind very finely. Squeeze and extract the juice and give it to the patient.If platelets have dropped below 150000 then give this thrice a day.and 2.5 Neem Leaf : Same recipe as the Papaya Leaf.Dosage only twice or once day Drink Water : 3 lts daily. Coconut Water Kiwi, Papaya, Soup, Beetroot, Spinach, Pumpkin. 2) The Diet Chart which I made for my husband. 8 AM : 1 lemon in lukewarm water , 8:30 : Fruit Plate : ½ Papaya, kiwi, Banana , Guava ( Ensure Vitamin C and also these food help relieving dengue constipation and inc appetite) 9:00 AM Neem Juice, 9:30 AM : Papaya leaf Juice. 10 AM : medicines as prescribed by doc (Till 12 PM ensure that the patient has drunk 1.5 lts of water) 11 :30 AM : Soup made up of Tomato, Apple,Lauki, Pumpkin, beetroot,Carrot, garlic and giner. Seasoning : bay leaf, black pepper and cumin): Ensures nutrition , Taste Buds and increases the appetite. 1: 00 PM : moong daal khichadi along with Spinach, Garlic, Carrot , beetroot . My answer is that it really depends on you. I will show you the pros and cons of rice and go over what I believe is the healthiest rice today. There is a debate today about if you should consume rice or not: ⁃ The paleo diet community says to stay grain-free and therefore that rice is not healthy ⁃ Chinese medicine followers and vegans think rice can be an incredible superfood I believe there is validity to both but it depends on the person and the preparation of the rice. Rice to stay away from: Refined White Rice (This is not jasmine or basmati rice but the sticky white rice from fast food or Chinese restaurants.) Rice Cons: • Fiber, minerals and vitamins have been removed. • Study shows that people are twice as likely to develop diabetes as opposed to those eating whole grain brown rice. • Contains phytic acid (enzyme inhibitor) which keeps you from absorbing and digesting vitamins and minerals. • Contains proteins that are difficult to digest Rice Pros: • Whole grain brown rice is high in B3 which is good for heart health. • Whole grain brown rice is high in selenium which supports the thyroid and kidneys. • Certain types of rice contain GABA, a neurotransmitter that can support the brain and help reduce anxiety as well as support metabolism. So ... is rice healthy? Is brown rice healthy? It depends on how it is prepared. I believe if rice is soaked and sprouted, it unlocks the vitamins and minerals versus most rices that aren’t sprouted. I personally consume an organic rice from the company, True Roots. It is a germinated brown rice (soaked and sprouted) which kills off phytic acid and is easier to digest. In Chinese medicine, look up “qi” or “chi.” They believe that short grain brown rice increase your body’s “qi” which is your body’s life source and energy. It is considered to be one of the #1 healing foods. I suggest my patients make a “congee” with chicken bone broth, brown rice and vegetables such as carrots and celery. This chicken vegetable rice soup is healing and nourishing to the body. In conclusion, is rice healthy? Yes, it can be if you are doing sprouted rice that is traditionally prepared. If you're working out, the vitamin C in the lemon juice may help your body burn more fat, according to a 2005 article published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. The authors report that getting an adequate intake of vitamin C helps the body burn 30 percent more fat during exercise. Most importantly, people who carry more body weight tend to have lower levels of vitamin C. Juice from one lemon has 18 milligrams of vitamin C, and you need 75 to 90 milligrams a day. Benefits of Drinking More Water When you're trying to lose weight, adding more water to your diet may be beneficial. Drinking 2 cups of water before each meal helped a group of overweight and obese adults following a weight-loss diet lose more weight -- 4 more pounds over 12 weeks -- than those simply following the diet, according to a 2010 study published in Obesity. The researchers concluded that the water helped the group fill up faster so they ate even less. While water may help you feel more full, however, there's also some evidence it may give your body a calorie- and fat-burning boost, according to the authors of a 2008 study published in the journal Obesity. If you don't drink water because it doesn't have any flavor, adding lemon may encourage you to drink more and get the weight-loss benefits of the calorie-free beverage. Making Lemon Water for Weight Loss Calories from all sources count when you're trying to lose weight. To keep calories in check with your lemon water, it's best to keep it simple, making your refreshing drink with only water and lemons. The juice of one lemon has 11 calories. Squeeze half a lemon in 2 cups of water to make a 5.5-calorie drink -- which makes it essentially calorie-free. For each whole lemon you squeeze into your water, you get 20 to 25 percent of your daily vitamin C needs. If you prefer, add the cut and peeled fruit to your drink and muddle it, then remove any large pieces, for a natural beverage that includes the pulp. You may be tempted to add sweetener to turn your lemon water into a type of lemonade, but adding 1 tablespoon of sugar bumps the number of calories in your drink up to 45. And honey isn't any better, adding 64 calories per tablespoon. You may want to drink your lemon water with a straw to prevent the acidity in the lemon juice from affecting your tooth enamel. Diet and Exercise Too Your lemon water may help a little bit with your weight-loss efforts, but the only way to lose successfully is to make a concerted effort to eat better and be more active. Weight loss is about creating a negative calorie balance so your body burns more than you feed it. Filling your diet with low-calorie, nutrient-rich foods, such as fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins and low-fat dairy, may help you limit calories to create that deficit. Finding ways to add activity to your day helps you burn more calories to widen the deficit. How to Lose Weight Without Doing One Minute of Exercise
Before I start, I want to let you know I’m not condoning zero exercise. In fact, exercise is freaking awesome and something you should try to do every day. However, I am here to tell you that if your primary concern is weight loss, exercise is merely the icing on the cake. 90% of your waistline battle is won or lost in the kitchen (or at the restaurant table, or at the drive-thru window, etc.) Warning: this will ask you to possibly make some substantial changes to your diet – are you up for it? Eat Real Food I’m a huge fan of the food philosophy presented in books like The Paleo Diet, Good Calories Bad Calories, and sites like Mark’s Daily Apple. Why? Because they make this diet thing so simple and logical even a caveman could understand it. My apologies if you’re a caveman. If you’re new to the “Paleo Diet” concept, here it is in a nutshell. Rather than list what you can’t eat, here’s what you CAN eat: REAL foods – veggies, lean meats, fish, eggs, fruit, and nuts. Why does this work? Because you’re only eating foods that you’re genetically engineered to thrive on: high quality, high energy REAL foods. Not from a box, not from a bag, not from a window. Food from the earth. Yay nature. Cut Way Back on the Rest Bread, cereal, pasta, fried food, rice, bagels, doughnuts, waffles, chips, tortillas, candy etc. – these things are all loaded with carbs (and if they’re processed – refined carbs and sugar), and I’ll bet a million Monopoly dollars they’re the cause of 99% of the population’s weight problem. I’m not telling you to give all of this stuff up completely – I’m just telling you that this is probably the reason the weight isn’t coming off of your frame. Here’s why: Most grains, refined carbs and sugar were nonexistent way back in the day, which means our bodies never quite adapted to properly process them. If you want to understand more why our bodies have such an issue with grains and carbs, this is the best article I’ve read. Here’s a great video to explain why refined carbs make you fat: Video – Why You Got Fat Today’s general recommended diet ratio of 50-60% carbs, 30% protein, 10-20% fat is so far off it’s ridiculous. I’m sorry, but it is. This ratio has been pushed on the public for decades, and new “low fat” items continue to pop up every day…and yet the country continues to get wider and bigger and fatter. Something’s not right. How I Know it Works Although I’ve recently added some grains back into my diet to bulk up (oats, flaxseed bread, and brown rice), I can attest to the fact that the Paleo Diet absolutely works. In the four months that I switched to a Paleo diet (my ratio was probably 40% fat, 40% protein, and 20% carbs), my body fat percentage dropped from 12% down to 5%. Besides myself, many NF readers have lost quite a bit of weight from making this change as well. If you’re interested in giving the Paleo Diet a shot, check out this GREAT resource. Pick a few things on the list, put together your meals, and you will lose weight. If you’re interested in learning more about ‘going paleo,’ Mark’s Primal Blueprint 101 is a great place to get your feet wet. Cut Out Liquid Calories Soda, beer, juice, margaritas Gatorade, vitamin water, cappuccinos, fruit coolatas – avoid them whenever possible (except for beer on St. Patty’s Day…come on.) These beverages are all loaded with sugar which immediately turn to fat in your system. And switching from a 12 pack of Coke to a 12 pack of Diet Coke might not solve your problems either. Read my article why Diet Coke might make you fat. My advice: chug water like it’s your job. It will curb your appetite, keep your insides running properly, and give you an excuse to get up and go for a walk to the bathroom every thirty minutes. No Paleo? Eat Less Than Before! Don’t want to change what you eat? Welp, you’re just going to count calories (using a site like DailyBurn). It’s a pain in the ass, but it works. Here are the three equations you need to know: Calories consumed Calories burned = weight gain. Calories consumed Calories burned = weight loss. 3500 less calories per week = 1 pound of fat weight loss. As explained in the video above, the types of you food you eat is more important than these equations let on, but just creating a caloric deficit will still produce weight loss although far less

the 5 bite diet here is how to answer the haters
Here is a description of a comment I made on Li San video attacking the 5 bite diet. Unless you have read Dr Alwin Lewis book Why Weight Around you shouldn't be demonizing a diet you don't understand. For those that need clarification here you go. The 5 bite diet is not actually a diet, since you can eat any type of foods even fast food and candy bars. The 5 bite diet is about losing weight fast and keeping it off permanently. What makes it different then other plans is you count the bites of food your eating and you track them, Now you can count calories or measure your food but that is dumb when you can just count the bites of food you eat. Dr Alwin Lewis himself went on the diet and lost 50 pounds and has keep the weight off for 10 years. He has never gained the weight back. All his patients has also not gained the weight back. Here is the diet in a nutshell. Breakfast: Drink black coffee or black tea in the morning Take a multi vitamin No snacking in between Eat 5 bites of food for lunch Eat 5 bites of food for dinner Out of the 10 bites have at least one bite of protein Drink as many non caloric drinks as you want, water, tea, coffee, sports drinks, diet soda. So it does not matter the diet you follow its the bites your taking in that matters the most. People are fat because they are eating too much not because they are not eating certain foods or not eating enough lettuce. Exercise also doesn't help there is lots of people who exercise and they are still obese. How much you put in your body is what will determine if you gain or lose weight. After 3 days of being on the diet you will be resetting your hunger stat and should not be hungry. A hunger stat is about resetting the amount of food the stomach is satisfied with. So if you eat 20 bites of food at a time then your body will be satisfied with that amount. I been on all the diets and none of them work for weight loss or weight management. I have been on the plan for 90 days and I have already lost 26 pounds and feel great. I have documented everything since I started in June. Li San you really need to open your mind and see that you are only feeding into a bunch of garbage that the media wants to keep out there especially the diet industry. Everyone knows that people who get the gastric bypass surgery do a similar plan of only eating 9 bites of food after they have had the surgery. So think of this as a none surgical solution for weight loss! Or you can sit there and stay fat and believe all the lies like I used to that simply is to keep people unhealthy. The body uses your fat for energy and since this is not a juice fast or water fast the body will not gain the weight back. I want to make it clear that you are not going to go back to the amount of bites you used to eat. You are going eat a little more but it will not be like 50 or 100 bites! You will be tiny so you would need that amount of food. It is not logical to think just because something is low in calories that that food will not make us feel more hungry and that it will not stretch the walls of our stomach. Eating 3000 calories a day is not healthy, I don't care if its all vegetables your ruining your health and digestive system. Eating less also have a large amount of benefits like longevity and is the best path to anti aging. So come on board and get to your path of success!
