Water On The Moon

http://www.facebook.com/ScienceReason ... LCROSS Impact: Water On The Moon. NASA confirmed water was detected when the Centaur rocket hit the moon. Where did it come from? Whats next? Will we develop a lunar outpost? One big answer leads to many bigger questions. --- Please SUBSCRIBE to Science & Reason: • http://www.youtube.com/Best0fScience • http://www.youtube.com/ScienceTV • http://www.youtube.com/FFreeThinker --- LCROSS Impact Data Indicates Water on Moon: The argument that the moon is a dry, desolate place no longer holds water. Secrets the moon has been holding, for perhaps billions of years, are now being revealed to the delight of scientists and space enthusiasts alike. NASA opened a new chapter in our understanding of the moon. Preliminary data from the Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, indicates that the mission successfully uncovered water during the Oct. 9, 2009 impacts into the permanently shadowed region of Cabeus cater near the moons south pole. The impact created by the LCROSS Centaur upper stage rocket created a two-part plume of material from the bottom of the crater. The first part was a high angle plume of vapor and fine dust and the second a lower angle ejecta curtain of heavier material. This material has not seen sunlight in billions of years. • http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LCROSS/main/prelim_water_results.html --- The California Academy of Sciences is a world-class scientific and cultural institution based in San Francisco. And that space contains lots of things. And these things have shapes. In geometry we are concerned with the nature of these shapes, how we define them, and what they teach us about the world at large--from math to architecture to biology to astronomy (and everything in between). Learning geometry is about more than just taking your medicine ("It's good for you!"), it's at the core of everything that exists--including you. Having said all that, some of the specific topics we'll cover include angles, intersecting lines, right triangles, perimeter, area, volume, circles, triangles, quadrilaterals, analytic geometry, and geometric constructions. Wow. That's a lot. To summarize: it's difficult to imagine any area of math that is more widely used than geometry. 501(c)(3) California Contemporary Sculpture Museum crowdfunding video

03:36
Please check out and support our crowd funding campaign at www.whenyouwish.com/project/CCSM PHASE ONE The purpose of this project is to establish a world-class contemporary sculpture museum on the West Coast. The museum will collect and preserve the best of California sculpture. This project represents a significant cultural advancement: a Contemporary Sculpture Museum, a 501(c) (3) non-profit institution. Conceived to become a world-renowned center for the exhibition of California Contemporary Sculpture as well as host international traveling exhibitions of sculpture. CCSM will represent an opportunity to help increase awareness of the sculptural arts and the material from which they are made as well as the countries from which they originate. CCSM will originate California Sculpture exhibitions and travel them to host museum institutions worldwide and thus spread the reputation of California Artists and of the state. Phase One will allow the establishment of the first series of exhibitions with the creation of the "Museum Without Boundaries". The Sculpture Grounds will consist of twenty sculpture pads located in Kinsgmen Park at California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, CA. This will enable CCSM to revolve exhibitions on an ongoing basis and establish itself with parallel educational programming and community outreach. This sculpture installation site will eventually be transformed into the California Contemporary Sculpture Museum building and grounds. During Phase One the sculpture site will have accompanying viewing benches and handicap accessibility. The focal entrance to the sculpture park will have a guide map, titles, and sponsorship signage. An opening reception will take place allowing the artists and attendees a chance to meet and discuss their work. The grand opening will allow the local and regional population the opportunity to learn about a new cultural destination. Educational, neighborhood and civic organizations will be encouraged to participate in the program and its "ribbon cutting" ceremony. Appropriate advertising and marketing will place CCSM on the region-wide cultural landscape. Ongoing press releases will alert the local, regional, state, and national news outlets and social media. Established California art patrons, contemporary art professionals, and museum organizations will be invited to CCSM's "debut", along with the local community, students, and teachers, who will all additionally be invited to visit the sculpture park daily. Educational tours and lectures by the visiting artists will parallel the scheduled exhibition. Each exhibition will last approximately six months. A program schedule and catalog will be available per exhibition. Museum special events such as "teas with the artist", music performances and charitable events will also be programmed. PHASE ONE will allow time for CCSM to develop building plans to design a permanent contemporary museum structure. CCSM will develop an ongoing yearly membership drive with newsletters and multi-tiered benefit opportunities. A donor "Sculpture Society" will be created as an embryonic CCSM donor circle. CCSM will join the national International Sculpture Center and other museum and educational organizations. CCSM will host symposiums concerning contemporary visual arts and current trends in sculpture making. The CCSM "Satellite" location in Woodland Hills is a 1-acre, landscaped sculpture garden located at Farmers Plaza, Warner Center, in the West San Fernando Valley. This location will enhance the program with parallel California contemporary sculpture-themed exhibits. The "Sculpture at the Plaza Gardens" has been exhibiting contemporary museum-quality California sculpture for 10 years and was founded by CCSM's director, Jeff Phillips. The site will also enhance the museum's visibility in the LA region, the nation's leading art metropolis. The 'Museum Without Boundaries" will become the focal point of the overall development of CCSM. It will allow the establishment of a new cultural and educational exhibition site accessible to a growing and dynamic population in this culturally under served region of California. Euclid as the father of geometry | Introduction to Euclidean geometry | Geometry | Khan Academy

08:23
We don't normally delve too far into history when talking about math, but sometimes it's important to have perspective about how some of our math concepts came about and how influential they have become. Watch the next lesson: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/geometry/intro_euclid/v/language-and-notation-of-basic-geometry?utm_source=YT&utm_medium=Desc&utm_campaign=Geometry Geometry on Khan Academy: We are surrounded by space. It's the most important skill we learn in our early years and becomes the foundation for all other math concepts. Once we can count, we can add, subtract, and measure the world around us. Shortly thereafter, we can learn about place values, plots, graphs, time, money, and shapes. These early math skills are presented in this subject's tutorials in a straightforward, understandable, and (dare we say it) fun way! Want a virtual coach for Early Math? You will deepen your knowledge of the decimals that you were first exposed to in 4th grade. In particular, you'll learn to do all the arithmetic operations--addition, subtraction, multiplication, division--with them and really understand what a decimal represents. This will be complemented by building your fraction muscles where you'll learn to add, subtract, and multiply any fractions (and begin to divide them). On the measurement front, you'll explore volume (or how much "space" something takes up) and continue the unit conversion journey begun in 4th grade. 5th grade is also the first time that you get exposed to the fundamental concept of graphing points on a coordinate plane, and you'll get a very brief exposure to the concept of exponents (when exploring "powers" of 10)! HOW TO LESSON PLAN FOR HOMESCHOOLING | UNIT STUDIES

02:22
This is the tail end of the planning process. It's when I've collected all my material and sorted through it. I've decided who is reading what, and which books I'll read aloud. All that's left to do is put it in my weekly lesson plans. This does take time up front, but it's worth it in the end. You can find the complete list of materials we used for this unit, including pictures, links and descriptions of each book or kit, at my website: https://www.pepperandpine.com/?p=2095 Here's the process I go through when I put together a unit: First I decide what we are going to study. I use the Waldorf curriculum from Live-Education as our default curriculum, so if I'm at a loss, I can always refer back to it as inspiration. You can choose a topic you are interested in, or you can expand on something in your current curriculum and turn it into a unit. Next, I figure out what materials I already have that I can use for the unit. I check our personal library, our games, or other materials. Occasionally, I check the local library, but often, I find it easier to own our own material. After I figure out what we have, I figure out what we want. I love Rainbow Resource and Acorn Naturalists. They have some of the most inspiring material available. I fill a cart or wishlist with everything I want, then I whittle it down. Once I receive all my material, I sit down with it and a pad of full sticky-back Post-its and a pencil and begin the preliminary lesson planning. I look through all the materials and figure out which books I'm going to read to the kids, which books they are going to read to themselves independently and when we are going to do projects. I figure out which supplements or materials I'll need and make a mental note to collect or buy them. I also check to see if there are any field trips or other activities or classes that might enhance the unit. I also figure out how long the unit is going to take. Either I set a number of weeks and work the material into that set amount of time, or I decide how many weeks I think the material will take to cover. Finally, I take all that planning and transcribe into my weekly lesson plan. I use an Excel spreadsheet for my lesson planning. I've used the same format for many years, and while it makes sense to me, I think there might be other formats that work as well or better. I usually write up and print out my weekly lesson plans the Sunday before the week begins, so that if there are changes that need to be made or if we don't get to something, I can easily roll it over to the following week, rather than change all the subsequent weeks. You can also find the complete list of materials used for the geology unit, including pictures and links, as a FREE download at Teachers Pay Teachers: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/List-of-Geology-Books-Charlotte-Mason-Living-Books-2726894 Share pics of your projects with me! https://twitter.com/PepperandPine https://www.instagram.com/pepperandpine/ https://www.facebook.com/pepperandpine https://www.pepperandpine.com

Near Earth Objects and Planetary Defence - Part 1 of 4

08:57
Near Earth Objects and Planetary Defence is a volunteer made documentary about the current issues surrounding defending the Earth from Asteroid and Comet impacts. Scientists and Astronomers have long worried about the potential devastation that an impact from space could cause, but recently Engineers have been designing realistic missions to stop these natural disasters. In this documentary, International Experts give their opinions on how to plan, pay for, build and safely execute a mission to stop an Asteroid or Comet. Alaska's Eastern Interior at Risk to Possible Development Plans | Pew

02:27
The Bureau of Land Management is currently deciding how public land east of Fairbanks, Alaska, will be used for the next 20-30 years. Plans involve opening areas including the White Mountains National Recreation Area, the Steese National Conservation Area, the Upper Black River and the Fortymile area to new mining and development. These areas were set aside to protect outstanding recreation opportunities and significant scenic and cultural values, with deep roots in Native Alaskan heritage. Urge the Bureau of Land Management to adopt an alternative management plan to keep protecting these critical lands.

NASA chasing End of the world asteroid JO25 relatively large near-Earth asteroid

00:16
Asteroid to Fly Safely Past Earth on April 19 A relatively large near-Earth asteroid discovered nearly three years ago will fly safely past Earth on April 19 at a distance of about 1.1 million miles (1.8 million kilometers), or about 4.6 times the distance from Earth to the moon. Although there is no possibility for the asteroid to collide with our planet, this will be a very close approach for an asteroid of this size. The asteroid, known as 2014 JO25, was discovered in May 2014 by astronomers at the Catalina Sky Survey near Tucson, Arizona -- a project of NASA's NEO Observations Program in collaboration with the University of Arizona. (An NEO is a near-Earth object). Contemporary measurements by NASA's NEOWISE mission indicate that the asteroid is roughly 2,000 feet (650 meters) in size, and that its surface is about twice as reflective as that of the moon. At this time very little else is known about the object’s physical properties, even though its trajectory is well known. The asteroid will approach Earth from the direction of the sun and will become visible in the night sky after April 19. It is predicted to brighten to about magnitude 11, when it could be visible in small optical telescopes for one or two nights before it fades as the distance from Earth rapidly increases. Small asteroids pass within this distance of Earth several times each week, but this upcoming close approach is the closest by any known asteroid of this size, or larger, since asteroid Toutatis, a 3.1-mile (five-kilometer) asteroid, which approached within about four lunar distances in September 2004. The next known encounter of an asteroid of comparable size will occur in 2027 when the half-mile-wide (800-meter-wide) asteroid 1999 AN10 will fly by at one lunar distance, about 236,000 miles (380,000 kilometers). The April 19 encounter provides an outstanding opportunity to study this asteroid, and astronomers plan to observe it with telescopes around the world to learn as much about it as possible. Radar observations are planned at NASA's Goldstone Solar System Radar in California and the National Science Foundation’s Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, and the resulting radar images could reveal surface details as small as a few meters. The encounter on April 19 is the closest this asteroid has come to Earth for at least the last 400 years and will be its closest approach for at least the next 500 years. Also on April 19, the comet PanSTARRS (C/2015 ER61) will make its closest approach to Earth, at a very safe distance of 109 million miles (175 million kilometers). A faint fuzzball in the sky when it was discovered in 2015 by the Pan-STARRS NEO survey team using a telescope on the summit of Haleakala, Hawaii, the comet has brightened considerably due to a recent outburst and is now visible in the dawn sky with binoculars or a small telescope. JPL manages and operates NASA's Deep Space Network, including the Goldstone Solar System Radar, and hosts the Center for Near-Earth Object Studies for NASA's Near-Earth Object Observations Program, an element of the Planetary Defense Coordination Office within the agency's Science Mission Directorate.
