08 common Interview question and answers - Job Interview Skills
08 common Interview question and answers - Job Interview Skills 1. "Tell me a little about yourself." You should take this opportunity to show your communication skills by speaking clearly and concisely in an organized manner. Because there is no right or wrong answer for this question, it is important to appear friendly. 2. "What are your strengths?" This is a popular interview question. They want to know what you think of yourself. Although this is a general question, there is a wrong and right answer. The wrong answer is a generic answer saying you are organized and friendly. Although it will not hurt you during the interview, it will certainly not help you either. Answer this question based on the type of job you are applying for. 3. "What are your weaknesses?" For this answer, you should display a weakness that can be seen as a strength. There are many types of answers that will work. Some answers will be good answers for certain jobs, while the same answer will be a bad answer for a different job. Select an answer that will work for the position you are applying for. 4. "Where do you see yourself in five years?" This question primarily depends on where you are in your career. A person with 5 years of experience will have different goals than a person with no work experience. This question is asked to see how serious a candidate is about his or her career. Some people might not know their goals, and some people might have goals of becoming rich and retiring early. Those are incorrect answers for this question. The type of answer you want to give is an ambitious answer that shows you really love your career. A good interviewer will read between the lines and find out if a person is going to be a hard worker or just a mediocre one. Being descriptive and shooting for a big goal is something interviewers want to hear. 5. "What do you know about our company?" A typical job interview question, asked to find out how much company research you have conducted, is "What do you know about this company?" Prepare in advance, and in a word, research, so you can provide relevant and current information about your prospective employer to the interviewer. 6. "Are you good at dealing with change?" Dealing with change is common in the work place. A simple yes will not be sufficient to impress the interviewer. This is another type of question where everyone will have similar answers. Of course everyone is going to claim being excellent dealing with change. You got to communicate that you are really good at dealing with change. 7. "Do you work well under pressure?" In most cases, the best answer to this question is answering yes. Working well under pressure is a good trait to have. However, I think if you answer that you work the same with pressure and without pressure, the interviewer will be more impressed. However, you will need to explain in words why this is better. 8. "How do you make important decisions?" There are many ways to answer this question, and if you have a reasonable method of making decisions, it will probably be sufficient. One answer I thought of included not being afraid of asking your manager. You can follow up by saying even the best needs mentoring, and you always want to improve. So basically, this could work as an answer, but depending on the job, you might have a better shot with an answer like my example.

Situating Personal Information Management Practices within an Organization
Google Tech Talk December 4, 2009 ABSTRACT Presented by Manuel Pérez-Quiñones. Personal Information Management (PIM) practices are the behaviors that we follow when we organize our information. This often includes emails, documents, bookmarks, pictures, etc. Research in PIM has identified a common set of activities that require support: encountering information, organizing information, filing/archiving, and reusing information. Different tools must provide different kinds of support for each one of these activities. PIM practices become easier if the organization provides some infrastructure to alleviate the difficulty of these activities. But a larger value is that the organization can leverage these personal practices to improve the effectiveness of others and to capture that elusive corporate knowledge in an easy way. In this talk, I will describe previous work in PIM and highlight how some of the PIM practices can be supported and leveraged from the organization point of view. Manuel A. Pérez-Quiñones is Associate Dean and Director of the Office for Graduate Recruiting and Diversity Initiatives at the Graduate School, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, and a member of the Center for Human-Computer Interaction at Virginia Tech. Pérez-Quiñones holds a DSc in Computer Science from The George Washington University. His research interests include human-computer interaction, personal information management, user interface software, digital government, and educational uses of computers. He is a member of the Coalition to Diversify Computing, where he co-directs the national program Collaborative Research Experience for Undergraduates in Computer Science and Engineering. He serves on the editorial board for ACM's Transactions on Computing Education journal. For 2008-2010 has been included in the IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitor program. UK Power Networks - Business Plan
This film of Basil Scarsella, CEO of UK Power Networks is a perfect example of how a bit of planning and crafting can lift a corporate message. Shot on the roof of their HQ in Elephant & Castle it captures the importance of safe, reliable power to London and beyond. So what's the plan all about? Here's some more detailed information from Basil Scarsella, CEO of UK Power Networks. "I am delighted to present a high level summary of our final 2015 to 2023 Business Plan for RIIO-ED1 which aims to maintain UK Power Networks as a reliable, innovative and the lowest price network group in Great Britain. We have consulted widely with our stakeholders and customers and incorporated their feedback in the development of these plans. The detailed comments we have received from stakeholders, together with our own internal work, have allowed us to develop well justified RIIO-ED1 business plans which will deliver long term value for money for our customers and stakeholders. Our final business plans will allow us to continue to improve our performance in the areas of safety, network reliability and quality, customer service, cost efficiency and employee engagement. Since our formation as UK Power Networks more than three years ago, we have delivered a step change in performance in all of these measures as well as operating in a socially responsible manner and investing heavily in innovation. Customer interruptions and customer minutes lost have improved by 30 per cent and 42 per cent over the last three years. We are ahead of plan on network investment as measured by load and health indices; customer service is improving; we are making cost savings that we will pass on to customers; most importantly the safety of our network is paramount. We have also made significant progress in connections customer service and in meeting the requirement to free up competition in the connections services arena. Our stakeholders have told us there is still more for us to do in customer service and connections, so we will build on these improvements through our transformation project, which is focused on modernising our processes and systems to be in line with best practice. This project is fully funded by our shareholders and it will deliver sustainable future improvements including service enhancements and cost savings for our customers. Innovation is at the core of our culture of continuous improvement, and our plan fully embraces the transition to a smart grid over the next two price control periods ensuring that we play our part in the transition to a low carbon economy. We already use many ‘smart’ techniques as evidenced by our high asset utilisation, relatively low cost of our services, and our high network reliability. Our RIIO-ED1 plan incorporates significant savings from smart network operations. We have proved our ability to deliver on difficult assignments as evidenced by faultless electricity distribution not only during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games but also during other high profile events such as the Royal Wedding and Diamond Jubilee celebrations. In today’s tough economic climate, demands on customers are increasing and we are very conscious that whilst electricity distribution costs represent only approximately 16 per cent of the electricity bill, UK Power Networks has a key part to play in making electricity affordable. Therefore, I am pleased that our final business plan aims to maintain UK Power Networks’ average prices as the lowest of the network groups in Great Britain." University of Edinburgh & IOHK | Blockchain Technology Laboratory
IOHK, a leading blockchain research and development company and the University of Edinburgh, today announced the establishment of a Blockchain Technology Laboratory within the university’s School of Informatics. The lab will bring together academics and students to collaborate on blockchain research and development with a focus on industry inspired problems. The laboratory’s launch event will be held at the University of Edinburgh on February 24, 2017. IOHK CEO and Co-Founder Charles Hoskinson said: “IOHK is delighted to be partnering with the University of Edinburgh, a world-leading institution in information, cognition and computing research and teaching. The partnership will develop IOHK’s core business area, cryptocurrencies and blockchain related technologies, and nurture and develop the global talent in these areas in the United Kingdom.” The research lab at the University of Edinburgh will also serve as the headquarters for IOHK’s growing network of global university partnerships. Tokyo Institute of Technology launched a similar centre with IOHK on February 15, 2017. IOHK expects to establish further research laboratories in the United States and Greece later this year, and has plans for more the following year. The Blockchain Technology Laboratory will be led by Prof. Aggelos Kiayias, Chair in Cyber Security and Privacy at the University of Edinburgh and Chief Scientist at IOHK. As Director of the lab, Prof. Kiayias will organise collaborations with fellow academics at the university and oversee researchers and students from undergraduate to PhD level in a broad range of topics related to blockchain systems. Research collaborations will be interdisciplinary and will include, beyond cryptography and computer science, economics, game theory, regulation and compliance, business, and law. The lab will provide a direct connection between developers and researchers, helping to get projects live faster and aims to pursue outreach projects with entrepreneurs in Edinburgh’s vibrant local technology community. Recruiting and outreach will begin immediately, and the full facility will be operational from summer 2017, located in the School of Informatics’ newly refurbished Appleton Tower. Professor Kiayias said: “We are very excited regarding this collaboration on blockchain technology between the School of Informatics and IOHK. In contrast to other industry-university partnerships, IOHK’s collaboration with the University of Edinburgh ensures that all funded research and development will be open source and patent-free. The Principal of the University of Edinburgh, Sir Timothy O’Shea, said: “We are delighted to be at the forefront of UK institutions in the field of distributed ledgers and proud to have a dedicated research laboratory for industry inspired research in this important emerging area.” Jeremy Wood, IOHK Co-Founder said: “IOHK’s partnership with the University of Edinburgh provides unique opportunities for current students to become the next generation of blockchain and cryptography leaders. As a headquarters for IOHK’s international academic research community, we expect to see the university facilitate innovative projects that drive how businesses and governments approach blockchain and cryptocurrencies.” University of Edinburgh’s School of Informatics: http://www.ed.ac.uk/informatics The School of Informatics’ Security & Privacy Group: http://web.inf.ed.ac.uk/security-privacy Input Output Hong Kong Ltd: https://iohk.io/

Jeffrey Harbach, Executive Director, Central Texas Angel Network
Jeff Harbach has been the executive director of the Central Texas Angel Network (CTAN) since 2011, bringing over 10 years of entrepreneurial experience to this position. As the organization's first full-time Executive Director, Jeff is focused on engaging and mentoring entrepreneurs through the capital formation process, recruiting professional investors with industry experience, and supporting the growth of entrepreneurship in Texas. As Executive Director, Jeff will explore new ways to further support the entrepreneurs that CTAN funds. One such model involves CTAN's partnership with Texas Venture Labs (TVL), an organization that Jeff co-founded at the University of Texas. TVL is a university-backed initiative to support technology commercialization, entrepreneurship, and innovation across campus. TVL offers a unique opportunity for interaction between students, entrepreneurs, and investors. It is relationships like these that have enabled CTAN to be recognized as one of the Top 5 most active angel networks in the US in the 2012 Halo Report. Jeff also has a passion for building successful companies and working with innovative entrepreneurs, in large part because Jeff's background is that of an entrepreneur. Prior to joining CTAN, Jeff purchased and operated two 7-Eleven stores in Las Vegas, Nevada, which he still owns today. He has led multiple startups, including a luxury furniture store and interior design firm, a golf-focused destination club, and a private country club golf network. Jeff was also an angel investor himself with the Vegas Valley Angels. Jeff holds a BS in Business Management/Information Systems from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, where he served as the Director of the Venture Fellows program and was co-founder of Texas Venture Labs. He is a Kauffman Fellow (Class of '16).
