These so called ‘experts’ list foods such as “special” fruits or vegetables that have lots of good vitamins. Or spicy foods or alcohol because they may increase your blood flow. Or beans or meat because they have healthy protein. Or whole grains because they have fiber and help with weight loss. It’s a lot of “stuff” that *may* help a LITTLE… but they NEVER address the REAL problem and CAUSE of low libido, which is a HORMONAL IMBALANCE! That’s it! If your sex drive and libido isn’t where you’d like it to be or where it used to be. If you have a hard time getting or maintaining an erection. If you’re just not “driven” -- mentally, physically or emotionally -- when it comes to sex or just life in general. Then the problem is hormonal imbalance which typically means: LESS “pro-sexual” hormones - such as testosterone. MORE “anti-sexual” hormones - such as estrogen, prolactin and cortisol So let’s increase the good and decrease the bad. EAT FAT! The best type of food that increases testosterone is FAT and more specifically, saturated fats and cholesterol. Now, you might be freaking out and think “okay Dr. Sam -- you’re insane!!! My cholesterol is going to go through the roof and I’m going to have a heart attack!” Nope, not true. First of all, over 80% of the cholesterol found in your blood and arteries is NOT from foods you eat -- but produced from your LIVER! (1) Cholesterol and saturated fats help produce most of your sex hormones - especially testosterone. Cholesterol helps lower your stress hormone, cortisol -- which does the OPPOSITE of testosterone. In fact, without cholesterol you’d die eventually. And for those of you are are really concerned about having high cholesterol -- the PRIMARY cause of high cholesterol is AGING and the change in your hormones!!! This is why the older you get, the worse your cholesterol levels. This is why women who go through menopause start having high cholesterol. Again, it all comes down to a hormonal imbalance!!! What MATTERS is WHERE you get your fats. Don’t go fry up some bacon and think this is healthy. Most animal and dairy fats are the problem. Heating oils, processed vegetable fats, hydrogenated and trans fats are the problem. Instead, have HEALTHY fats. Have free range eggs WITH the yolk. The BEST way to eat eggs are RAW --- but if you can’t do that, at least keep the yolk runny and soft, which will increase your “good” HDL cholesterol.(2) If you want to have some free range, grass fed meat or bison/buffalo 2-3x a week, that’s fine too. Grass fed red meat has higher levels of CLA fats, which boost testosterone, reduce cortisol, are anti-inflammatory and help reduce many forms of cancer (4) Other than that, I would stay away from most other meats because they’re processed and full of negative hormones such as ESTROGEN, which will LOWER your testosterone and libido. Lastly, have some HEALTHY saturated fats and one of the best is raw, extra virgin coconut oil. That's a big question, and a lot of people ask me, "Hey, Thomas, I store body fat in my legs," or "I store body fat in my arms or in my abdomen. Is there any way that I can change that?" Well, the short answer is kind of yes and no. You see, a lot of it ends up being dictated, of course, by our genetics, but I know that's not the answer that you want to hear. So, in this video, I'm going to break it down beyond genetics. I'm going to break it down to some hormones. I'm going to help you understand why you might be storing fat in a specific area and maybe a couple things that you can start to control that might help that situation out. Hey, if you haven't already, I do encourage you to subscribe to my channel so that you can make sure you see all the videos that I post every single week, and please turn that little bell on so you can turn on notifications to know whenever I post a new video. All right, so first and foremost, we do have to look at DNA. I want to get this out of the way. First off, we have to understand that over 50% of the actual fat storage different that occurs in our body is truly dictated by our genetics, and when it comes down to gender differences, sometimes it can be as much as 70% dictated by our genetics with that remaining 30% having to do with age, having to do with ethnicity and a number of other, still, genetic factors. So the reality is, yes genes play a big role in it, but we do have some other catalysts at play. One in particular is one that you know of, cortisol. You see, cortisol is a stress hormone. We all hear the ads, we've seen the marketing that talks about cortisol and belly fat, but the reality is, it is kind of true and here's how it works. You see, cortisol exerts a very powerful effect on adipose tissue metabolism, and it's all because of something known as glucocorticoid receptors. You see, cortisol is a glucocorticoid, and we have specific receptors that are in our fat cells called glucocorticoid receptors. These glucocorticoid receptors receive a message from cortisol and then store fat in a specific way. Well, since fat already has a glucocorticoid receptor in it, the more fat that we accumulate, the more glucocorticoid receptors we have, and the more cortisol we receive and the more fat we deposit. So since cortisol acts via the glucocorticoid receptor, it actually triggers something known as a lipoprotein lipase, and when lipoprotein lipase acts within this continuum of glucocorticoids, it has a variable density in different areas of the body in which it deposits fat. So it goes through a specific order. It actually starts with visceral adipose tissue, which is the fat that is underneath our skin, but even one step further, surrounding our organs at the very far interior of our body. Then, the next place that [replaces 00:02:32] it is good old fashion abdominal subcu fat, which is traditional abdominal fat. Then, the next order of business after that is going to be femoral subcu fat, so that's more fat that's going to be stored in the legs. There's actually an order, so when it comes down to proving the relationship between hormones and where we store fat, cortisol is really the only one that is tried and true, and proven, to really cause body fat to be stored in a specific area. All rights reserved. Understanding the menstrual cycle. The menstrual cycle is a term used to describe monthly events that occur within a woman's body in preparation for the possibility of pregnancy. Each month, an egg is released from an ovary in a process called ovulation. At the same time, the lining of the uterus thickens, ready for pregnancy. If fertilization does not take place, the lining of the uterus is shed in menstrual bleeding and the cycle starts over. An ovary contains hundreds of thousands of primary oocytes - immature eggs, or ova. Each of these is enclosed in a structure called a follicle, and at this stage -- a primordial follicle. The menstrual cycle is under control of hormones secreted by the pituitary gland and the ovaries. The pituitary itself is under control of the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus produces a hormone called the gonadotropin-releasing hormone or GnRH. GnRH stimulates the anterior lobe of the pituitary to secrete follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). FSH travels in the bloodstream to the ovaries and stimulates a group of follicles to grow. These primordial follicles develop into primary follicles and then secondary follicles. These produce a hormone named estrogen which acts to stimulate the growth of the endometrium -- the inner lining of the uterus. The secondary follicles compete with each other and only one of them will survive and become a mature follicle, the rest atrophy and die. The increasing level of estrogen also acts on the hypothalamus and the anterior pituitary to increase the level of GnRH and induce the production of another hormone -- luteinizing hormone (LH). A surge in LH secretion triggers ovulation - the release of the egg from the follicle and the ovary. The egg is then swept up by the fimbriae (FIM-bree-ee) and taken into the uterine tube. Fertilization by a spermatozoon, when it occurs, usually takes place in the ampulla, the widest section of the fallopian tube. The fertilized egg immediately begins the process of development while travelling toward the uterus. After 6 days it becomes a blastocyst and is implanted into the endometrium of the uterus. Meanwhile, the left-over of the ruptured follicle has become a corpus luteum which secretes progesterone. Progesterone further stimulates uterine development making it a nutritious bed for the embryo in the event of pregnancy. In the absence of pregnancy, the corpus luteum atrophies and progesterone level falls. This leads to the breakdown of the endometrium, menstruation begins and the cycle starts over. You have the adrenal type, the thyroid type, the ovary type and the liver type. But there is one more, it's the pancreas type, which is pumping out too much insulin because this person has insulin resistance. The best way to look at this is to look at what TRIGGERED your body type before you developed your body shape or type. Lets take the liver body type - this could come from alcohol, medications, and even a virus. But you can also have a liver body type that is triggered from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease triggered from insulin resistance, so the pancreas can cause the liver body type. The pancreas type can also cause the adrenal body type, if the trigger is sugar or freq. eating, however, if it's stress as a trigger, then the high cortisol can release insulin and create belly fat that make its impossible to determine from the outside if the person has the pancreas or adrenal body type until you talk to the person and dig into their history. If they have the ovary type, and you find out from their history that they were exposed to higher levels of estrogen - birth control pills or even pregnancy, then we know the trigger is estrogen. The thyroid is usually secondary to either high estrogen or liver problems. The big question is WHAT happens before you ended up with your shape. You need a clue: -stress -sugar -medication -virus -pregnancy -alcohol Cortisol, estrogen and insulin are fat making hormones and they dominate other hormones. This is why the thyroid and liver are usually secondary to other body types. Fat Burning Hormone: Leptin & Cheat Meal Science: Thomas DeLauer Leptin is actually a hormone – meaning that once it is released it will travel to another area of your body to make things happen Once leptin is released from your fat it enters your blood and travels up to your brain, delivering a message as to how much fat (fuel) you have on hand *The hypothalamus in the brain is what controls leptin. The hypothalamus is comprised of an elaborate system of leptin receptors* When your brain answers the leptin, it tells you how fast you can run your metabolism based on how much gas is in your gas tank Your brain has no way to see how much stored fat you have on hand, it relies on the leptin to determine your state of overall nutrition and fuel reserves If the leptin signals that it’s low, it means eat more. When you’ve eaten enough, leptin levels rise, and the leptin in your brain now says you’re full – resulting in a full signal Simply put, it lets your brain know how much fat is in your body. As leptin levels rise, your appetite diminishes. As leptin levels fall, your appetite increases (1) Leptin and Metabolism Once you do get a leptin-related full signal then permission is given for your body’s metabolism to get in gear and go When leptin levels are adequate your metabolism begins to run faster When leptin levels are too low your brain thinks there is a famine and your metabolic rate is set to hibernation mode – metabolism slows down Simply put, it regulates the rate of fat breakdown. As leptin levels rise, your metabolic rate increases. As leptin levels fall, your metabolism slows (1,2) Leptin Resistance The body doesn’t always listen to the leptin message and leptin resistance occurs The leptin signal isn’t being heard, so it cannot stimulate your metabolism or suppress your appetite Because fat cells produce leptin in proportion to their size, obese people have very high levels of leptin Given the way leptin is supposed to work, these people’s brains should realize they have a sufficient amount of fat The problem is that the leptin signal isn’t working. There’s excess leptin floating around that the brain doesn’t see When the brain doesn’t receive the leptin signal, it thinks that the body is starving, even though it has more than enough energy stored Causes the brain to think that we need to eat more and conserve energy – makes us overeat and feel lazy (2,3) Physical activity and enough sleep may help to reverse leptin resistance Having high blood triglycerides can prevent the transport of leptin from blood and into the brain - the best way to lower triglycerides is to reduce carbohydrate intake Bottom line: what we consider necessary for good health and weight loss is what’s necessary to keep leptin levels in check A re-feed day is a day where you increase your calories up to maintenance calories or slightly above by increasing your carbohydrate intake The purpose of a re-feed day is to help boost your metabolism and help restore your Leptin levels - way of telling your body that you aren’t starving, and that there’s food available Leptin is highly responsive to glucose metabolism So when doing a re-feed, you will benefit much more if the majority of your additional calories are coming from good sources of carbohydrates that will turn into glucose (potatoes, pasta, rice, bread, oats and grains) When done this way, leptin levels will show a significant rise over if you had eaten a surplus of calories coming from more protein, fat, or fructose More simply, by having a re-feed day you will spike your leptin levels back up and kick start your metabolism to burn more fat – 1 step back, 2 steps forward (4) References 1) What is Leptin? | Health & Wellness News. This layer of you contains the imprints of the emotional aspect of your memories as well as your current emotional state. It is the bridge between your physical self and our thinking self. The feeling body interprets and translates the thoughts projected forth by your eternal consciousness perspective and also by your human perspective into feeling states or "feeling signatures". This translation is the first step that takes place in order to enable a being to have a first hand experience of a thought. This enables the thought to be actualized instead of remain abstract. This actualization of thoughts enables us to learn and gain awareness better and faster and this in turn enables personal and universal expansion. Because of the emotional body, man is able to experience their own thoughts. The thoughts are converted into feeling impressions. The physical body interprets those feeling impressions and as if translating the message, converts those feeling states into the neuropeptides and hormones that cause the physical reactions in our body that we call "emotions"; emotions ranging from fear, anger and stress to love, compassion and happiness. The feeling body is not an actual body. It is etheric in nature. But it can be understood and visualized symbolically like an actual body (in fact it often is both out of body and in dream time). You can ask to be shown the visual representation of your feeling body in meditation of you like. With practice, you will no longer need to facilitate an altered state of consciousness like meditation to switch your perspective in order to see the layer of a person's emotional/feeling body at will. You could observe it as energy, or you could observe it as the representation of an actual body. What do I do to get calm before I go to sleep or just try to relax? Great question ... Improve sleep by relaxing deeply and embedding positive messages. everyone needs to develop practices to help with harnessing calm. It is very helpful to establish a practice just before sleep or whenever you are trying to rest that will trigger a state of peace and calm in your body and mind. The trouble is that as soon as you try to slow down you may find that this is the exact moment when you feel the worst sensations or stress and business in your mind. The reason is that you have no distractions and all of a sudden you come face to face with the ongoing strain that your body/mind is experiencing every moment. So this is a different Ask Dr Anna episode because I want to share with you a deeper and longer exercise (just over 20 minutes!) for harnessing calm, settling your body and training your mind to embed positive messages about a greater sense of peace while releasing old fears and concerns - allowing you to learn to remain in the ever present moment more steady in your mind and more at peace in your body. You can do this exercise just before you go to sleep or anytime that you need to rest and restore. Practicing this exercise for 30 days can help you to restore your body and mind giving you a sense of relief from the ongoing pressures, stress and strain that you have struggled with daily. Find a comfortable & quiet place where you won't be disturbed - have blanket and pillows nearby if you need warmth or some support for your knees. Some people find that listening is best with earphones so you may want to see if you prefer this. So that is the challenge, for the next 30 days, before you go to sleep or during the day is you feel you need to rest - turn this on and practice. Q&A: What do I do when nerves render me speechless?

Chloe asks, 'How do I overcome the kind of nerves that take all my words away so I'm left literally speechless?' It's hormonal Your brain releases two hormones into our bloodstream to warn you of danger. These are adrenalin and cortisol. We associate adrenalin with 'fight, flight of freeze'. It is a warning signal from our brain to our body to get ready to react to 'danger'. Adrenalin also gives us an additional burst of energy so we can make good our escape! Cortisol is known as the 'stress hormone'. It too gives us a burst of energy but the feelings associated with a burst of cortisol are less pleasant (some describe them as feelings of 'anxiety'). A throwback to the past Public speaking doesn't put us in mortal danger so why does our brain tell our bodies to create adrenalin and cortisol when we don't need them? Some neuroscientists and psychologists believe that this reaction is a throwback to our hunter/gatherer days. In those ancient times we faced mortal danger if we became isolated from our social group. We might be attacked by an animal or a member of a rival group, we could die from exposure or starvation. So our brains developed a mechanism to warn us of the very real danger of separating ourselves from our social group. A burst of stress hormones is our brain's message to our body to get back to a place of safety, preferably by fleeing (which is safest), or fighting or freezing until the danger has passed. As public speakers we separate ourselves from other people. We stand away from our group and we are the only person who speaks. So it maybe that our brain mistakes this situation as being dangerous and releases a burst of adrenalin and cortisol to warn us of the perceived danger. As we can't run away or fight anyone the more usual (and most appropriate) response is 'freeze' (we sometimes call this 'stage fright'). How to live in the present Now you understand why your brain may be producing these hormones when you don't really need them (although the burst of energy can be helpful to a degree!), what can you do to prevent adrenalin and cortisol from stopping you from giving a great performance? It's important to understand that ignoring the signals isn't an option. If you ignore your brain's urgent warning all it will do is make the warning LOUDER by releasing more unwanted adrenalin and cortisol into your body. Your brain wants you to take action in response to its warning and if you ignore it then it will make the message louder and louder until you heed its advice! Time to 'fight'? Your brain wants a reaction from you so the best way to appease it is by choosing one of the three Fs (fight, flight, freeze) and incorporating it into your performance. Fleeing and freezing are not appropriate, so the right 'F' for you is FIGHT! Rather than attack a member of the audience (never a good idea) that kind of 'fight' you're going to engage in is the fight for a great performance. Put as much energy as you can into your presentation and make it as engaging and powerful as possible. This doesn't mean you need to run around the stage (though I've seen it happen!), but stand strongly and use your hands, arms and facial expressions to deliver your message with power. When you 'fight' in this way, your brain will get the message. Satisfied that you have reacted to the burst of hormones it sent you it will stop producing them in such large quantities. You will notice the unpleasant sensations of too much adrenalin and cortisol subside. Being mindful If you're not used to 'listening' to your body, you may find the relaxation practice known as 'mindfulness meditation' helpful. It's a great idea to be more aware of your body when you speak. Notice how it moves and be aware of the signals your body receives from your brain. If you feel surges of adrenalin and cortisol when you don't want them you know what to do: take it as a cue to up your performance! Like what you hear? Need my help?
