Peter Attia: What if we're wrong about diabetes?

15:59
As a young ER doctor, Peter Attia felt contempt for a patient with diabetes. She was overweight, he thought, and thus responsible for the fact that she needed a foot amputation. But years later, Attia received an unpleasant medical surprise that led him to wonder: is our understanding of diabetes right? Could the precursors to diabetes cause obesity, and not the other way around? A look at how assumptions may be leading us to wage the wrong medical war. Erin Elizabeth Interview - The Orchestrated Attack On Holistic Doctors And Your Health

01:27:06
Anyone who has taken the time to truly research this nation’s history, both recent and back to its origins, should be well aware that those with the wealth have the power to manipulate the government, just as we are increasingly beginning to see today, due in large part to the tireless and all too often unacknowledged efforts of the independent media. History has shown, in more ways than one, that these ruling elite – or whatever euphemism one feels applies to those with almost no financial limitations and the ability to influence both policy and trade on a massive scale – would have no qualms about choosing their gain over your well-being at every turn. So when we apply that logic to the case at hand, wherein doctors are finding, or rather re-discovering alternative ways to heal and outright prevent a multitude of illnesses that plague mankind, illnesses that have been used to create entire multi-billion dollar industries of continuous treatment as opposed to actual healing, we need to ask ourselves: who stands to lose with this monumental rise in awareness of just how effective holistic medicine can be? 7 Signs of Low Vitamin D (How Many do You Know?)

07:46
So many people in the industrialized nations are deficient in Vitamin D, it is truly an epidemic. When you consider that it is not just a vitamin, but also a pro-hormone, you can begin to understand the importance of this deficiency. Vitamin D deficiency can lead to weakened bones, yes, but it can also lead to weakened immune systems as well. The risk of cancer, and many other illnesses, increases with a dropping vitamin D level. The best way to get Vitamin D is from the Sun and from your diet. If you live too far north for the Sun, and can't get enough in your diet, then you should supplement. Having a healthy Vitamin D level is very important to your good health and longevity. *Vitamin D & Weight Loss Video: https://youtu.be/M0GBrrt2YWI * ------- Join me and let's optimize your health! ------- A Good Vit D Supplement: https://amzn.to/2I1UFmz Vit D + Vit K2 Supplement: https://amzn.to/2rry7FC Get Dr Berry's Best-Selling Book: LIES MY DOCTOR TOLD ME 📕--▶ http://a.co/g53H5g7 FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/kendberry.md/ INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/kendberry.md/ TWITTER: https://twitter.com/KenDBerryMD Thanks so much to Mary C., Lisa G., Paul R., Doyle R., Robyn D., Jeff P., Joe W., and John C. for being generous Patrons, and helping make this video possible… ▶You can help too, by becoming a Patron: https://goo.gl/kJJYws 🆕 Patron-Only FaceBook Page: https://goo.gl/XLVjmc (you may have to type a code to prove you're human) 📳Speak with Dr. Berry face-to-face about medical questions you might have using eVisit: https://goo.gl/7ibtW5 Ken D Berry, MD, FAAFP, is a Board Certified Family Physician and Fellow in The American Academy of Family Physicians. How Important is Blood Sugar Control in Type 2 Diabetes

05:25
Scientists at Tufts University School of Medicine claim that the primary goal of treatment in type 2 diabetes is no longer blood glucose control. They published this work in the February 2014 issue of the journal, American Family Physician. Doctors have been imprinted with the concept that control diabetes and you'll control its complications; while this remains correct, it turns out that there are other factors that are even more important in preventing heart attacks, strokes, renal failure, peripheral neuropath and retinopathy that include smoking, uncontrolled hypertention, poor management of high cholesterol, and lack of the use of metformin (glucophage). This doesn't mean forget about the importance of managing blood sugar levels, it just reinforces the importance of quitting smoking, managing hypertension and cholesterol, and using metformin when it is possible.

Living With Diabetes and Without Junk Food

02:56
By Jamie - Age 14 | For seven years of my life, I grew up in the foster system. I had to leave my mom’s house because of the decision to stop being there for her children. At the time, it was just me, an eight year old girl, and my brother, and an eleven year old severely autistic boy. One day the police showed up at our house. They asked me a lot of questions and then told us I would be staying at my aunt's house with her three kids, and my brother to a home for his needs. I stayed with my Aunt and cousins for a year and a half, until one day my Aunt told me to pack some clothes. I thought I was going to spend some time with my other Aunt and cousins, so happily I went and packed some clothes but, once I was done I went to the front room and my Aunt told me and my cousins I was going away for some time. I didn’t know what that meant but, we all cried, and my ??? showed up. My ??? didn’t tell me too much on our car ride there but, for most of the ride I cried. Once we got there, I was greeted by someone I would soon look up to as my sister, and by more people I would soon consider my family. I lived there for 2 and a half years. I wanted that to be my forever home, my forever family. But I found out my biological mom had another baby. He was only 5 months old and the state wanted us to be together forever. I moved in with him and his foster family. ??? threw up, cried, fussed, changed his diapers. I never thought I’d have a little brother, but there he was right before my eyes. I thought that was it for my foster placements but, I was wrong. Something didn’t work in that home and, we were moved after a year and a half of staying there. Now, we were with our very first white foster parent. A single mother, with three cute, but crazy kids. To say the least on that home, it didn’t work and, we left. On my last day of school, we were taken to our next foster home and, our last one thank you jesus. Another white family with four kids. A boy in the eleventh grade, a girl ???, another girl in the seventh grade, and another boy in like the fifth grade. And of course two parents, a mom and a dad and two lovely black dogs. Those people showed me and my brother so much love and care even after our hearts were broken by so many people at so many different times. I’ve never had a father figure in my life, so when I got to this one I didn’t really know how it felt to have a father at all. December 31, 2014, we were adopted by these people. Being here for two years now, I’ve received lots of love, and crazy rules and groundings. I’m blessed to have a place to finally call home Do you LOVE junk food? Tons of people do - especially when we're kids, it's everywhere. And so, getting addicted to sugar is easy. Do you kind of HATE healthy foods like vegetables and fruit? You're not alone. Jamie, up until a few years ago, ate nothing but junk food - all the time - chips, soda, candy, anything she could find that had lots and lots of sugar, or was fried, or processed, or just plain bad for you. It was all she craved. Even though her Mom told her not to eat all that junk food, and tried to get her to eat better healthier foods, she just ignored her and went on eating whatever she wanted. And this went on for a few years, until, Jamie started having trouble hearing. She didn't think much of it, but it got bad enough so that her Mom ended up taking her to the hospital. After the nurse tested her blood sugar - which Jamie hated since she hates blood and needles - she came back with bad news. Jamie had diabetes! It was a diagnosis she did not expect nor a disease she wanted. Her Mom was concerned, but Jamie was just totally confused - she had to learn all about it fast, AND, she had to take medicine - insulin - every single day. So, with a serious fear of needles and shots, Jamie found out that she had to give herself the shots, and monitor and test her blood sugar levels on her own. It was scary, and people would look at her when she had to do it and make her feel different and uncomfortable. But the hardest part of all was that she had to stop eating all of the junk food and sugar and start eating healthy foods. As a diabetic, She had to totally change her diet. And eventually, she got used to her new diet and at making healthier choices for eating and snacking. She even got used to the shots and is really living a normal life - but she does have to take care of herself a little more carefully than most kids her age and manage her diabetes. This is an important storytime to tell and to hear. Everyone's got a story....we want to hear yours! I have nothing but the utmost respect for our primary care physicians, whether they be family practitioners, pediatricians, general internists. They are forced to keep up with an incredible amount of information from a very, very diverse pathologic standpoint not the physiological standpoint. It's hard to keep up. What a lot of health care providers do is they either restrict what they do to what they know or they look for all the assistance they possibly can in those areas that they don't feel comfortable in.   I think what Virta can offer is that level of assistance to primary care physicians to say, “We realize you have seven minutes per patient.  We realize that people with diabetes use a disproportionate amount of your time. Let us help.”   This is an ancillary service. It doesn't go around the physician. It incorporates the physician. It's not stealing patients away from the physician. It's really trying to provide the education and the support to the person with diabetes in order to make the primary care physicians a lot better.

Reversing My Diabetes 11 of 11 - A Doctor's Story & CLOSING

13:03
JOIN US at http://MetabolicCoaching.NET/Diabetes for Reversing My Diabetes Monthly Webinar + 3 Months Follow Up. Start reversing your diabetes today! There are only two types of doctors in the world. Those who have a personal experience with low carb and those who don’t. Doctors who support low carb are those who have a personal history/experience with low carb. A good example is the story of Dr. Jay Wortman who improved his overall health and reversed his diabetes by cutting back on carbohydrates. Low carb works for patients, and it works for doctors too! Dr. A: Audiences a lot of time wonder: “If all these things are true, and I can decrease my sugar and get off my medications, then why hasn’t my doctor told me?” Well, don’t be too hard on your doctor. If he/she has not had a personal experience with low carb diet, then they probably don’t understand it. The reason I got involved with low carb is this. Four years ago, my wife was kicking me out of bed because I was snoring so loudly she couldn’t sleep. I knew is was because I had gotten too fat. At that point I was 213 ½ lbs. I cut the carbs out of my diet and I lost 40 lbs; and I’ve kept the weight off ever since then. Is it sustainable? I’ve been doing it 4 years. Regarding heart disease and diabetes, for every 1 point decrease in your HgbA1c, your heart disease risk goes down by 45% according to the ADA. Dr. Wortman interview from Diet Doctor Channel on YouTube... Dr. Jay Wortman, MD’s Story: I’m a medical doctor and I’m quite familiar with diabetes. Along the way, I wasn’t taking very good care of my health, I’d gained weight; and I also have a family history of diabetes. You would think as a doctor, I’d understand these risks and take better care of myself. But I let myself develop Type 2 Diabetes. And I guess I was in denial because I had all the symptoms – blurred vision, I was tired, overweight, getting up at night to go the bathroom, and I was thirsty all the time – before it dawned on me that I probably had Type 2 Diabetes. Dr. Andreas: How did it feel to be a doctor and develop this type of disease? Dr. Jay: It was very shocking! But probably the biggest thing that upset me was that I had a 2-year old son and I was 52 at the time, and I know too much about diabetes – the life expectancy is shorter, risk of complications, high risk of cardiovascular disease – and all these thoughts were in my mind and I was thinking, I wasn’t going to live long enough to see my son grow up. I read up a bit and get up to date on diabetes treatment and in order to decide which drug I should be on. I didn’t want my blood sugar to be too high during this time, so I decided to stop eating carbs because I knew carbs make your blood sugar go up. But during my practice, it never occurred to me to eliminate carbs as a therapy for diabetes. Dr. Andreas: What happened when you did that? Dr. Jay: As soon as I stopped eating carbs, my blood sugar normalized, I felt better, my symptoms all went away, and I started losing about a pound of weight a day. Dr. Andreas: What are the specific foods that you quit eating? Dr: Jay: I stopped eating all starchy food: pasta, potato, rice, bread, and anything that was sweet, including fruit. I ate meat, fish, poultry and dairy fats – milk, cream, and cheese. I also ate lots of non-starchy vegetables. Within a few days, my sense of well-being improved. I felt better and I had more energy. My sense of doom and gloom went away. --- End Clip Dr. A: Dr. Wortman says that it never even occurred to him that he could tell people to reduce carbs as a method of treating diabetes. He just did it himself to see if he could keep his blood sugars lower, long enough to find out which drug to take, until he got so well he didn’t need any medictions! The other thing is this - by improving your blood sugars & by reversing your diabetes, YOU will be the personal experience that will teach your doctor that it can happen. Additional Resources: • Dr. Atkins’ Diabetes Revolution • Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution These are some books that will really go in depth about low carbohydrate diet: what to eat, what not to eat, about diabetes medications, and how to reverse your diabetes through diet. Now go out there and… DON’T JUST REVERSE YOUR DIABETES, BUT ABSOLUTELY CONQUER YOUR DIABETES! "Unstoppable energy, enthusiasm, curiosity, and always one step ahead of the pack" is a colleague's description of Graham. Patients and colleagues applaud his commitment to Family Medicine, which is deeply rooted in his belief that family practice reaches far beyond the office. Graham has practiced in Burlington, Ontario for over 30 years. He has served as Chair of Family Medicine at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital and is the Medical Director for the Halton Diabetes Education Centre and an Associate Clinical Professor at McMaster University Medical School. As a leader in practice, Graham started using and teaching about electronic medical records early in his career and manifested his research inquisitiveness by obtaining his Masters in Epidemiology in 1994. Many know Graham as past President of the Ontario College of Family Physicians. On a personal note, Graham enjoys the arts, travel, photography, hiking and reading. He and his wife, Lydia, are proud of their three grown daughters: Gillian, a teacher; Andrea, gourmet chef; and Lynley, an interior designer. "Family Medicine, the art of translating science into clinical practice, is all about people: people we care for, people we teach, people we learn from, people who give us joy and sadness, people we grow with, people we cry with, people we work with, people who trigger our search for new knowledge" Dr. Graham Swanson: Graduate of the University of Western Ontario 1971 Certificant in Family Medicine 1974 Fellow in Family Medicine 1983

Diabetes: Fact or Fiction

02:45
Diabetes affects millions of Americans, but there’s still a lot of misconceptions out there about this disease. Here, Dr. Lori Noble from Penn Medicine clears up what’s fact and what’s fiction when it comes to diabetes. Diabetes is when your body is unable to regulate its own blood sugar and it comes in two forms: • Type 1: Cells that make insulin are mistake and destroyed by the immune system. This disease is believed to be caused by genetics and certain environmental factors. There’s no way to prevent it. • Type 2: More common in people who are overweight, inactive, or eat a poor diet But what’s fact and what’s fiction when it comes to diabetes? Is being overweight a guarantee that you will eventually develop diabetes? Does everyone with diabetes REALLY have to take insulin all the time? And if you do have diabetes, does that mean saying goodbye to all of your favorite foods? Dr. Noble sets the record straight on diabetes.
