And serous otitis media occurs in the middle ear for several different reasons. The most common reason is as a result of a middle ear infection. Oftentimes when the acute infection which is causing pain or discomfort, is resolved, there will be leftover fluid that doesn't drain from your middle ear. And it doesn't drain because your eustachian tube is swollen closed. This is usually treated with various anti-inflammatory drugs. But on occasion those drugs are not effective and the fluid must be surgically drained. This fluid is drained by making a small hole in the eardrum, which is called a myringotomy. This is a procedure that can be done on an adult in the office painlessly with a topical anesthetic. Young children, however, who will not hold still in the office, often need to be sedated in the operating room with a light general anesthetic.

Natural Remedies for Ear Infection

04:03
Ear infections are caused by bacteria or viruses in the middle ear. Ear infections occur more often in children than adults. Some causes and contributing factors that lead to ear infections are wax buildup, upper respiratory infections, food allergies, environmental allergies, genetics, nutritional deficiencies and internal injuries. Some common signs that someone is suffering from an ear infection are pain in the ear, tugging at the ear, difficulty sleeping, headache, poor response to sounds, high fever and fluid draining from the ear. The ear is made up of three parts: outer, middle and inner. An ear infection can occur in any of the three parts. Inner ear infections are the most serious. It is important to treat an ear infection to prevent complications, including damaging or rupturing the ear drum. There are many time-honored, simple and easy home remedies that can help to get rid of the pain and other symptoms of an ear infection. 1. Salt Salt is probably the most readily available home remedy. Heat up one cup of salt on a pan over low heat for a few minutes. You can also heat it in a microwave or double-boiler. Place the hot salt on a cloth and seal the open end with rubber band (or tie a knot). When it is bearably hot, lay down and put the cloth on the affected ear for 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat this remedy daily as many times as needed. The heat generated from the sock will help draw out fluid from the ear and relieve swelling and pain. As an alternative, you can use one cup of rice in the same manner described above. 2. Garlic Garlic has antimicrobial properties and natural pain relieving qualities, making it highly effective in the treatment of ear infections. There are a few ways to use garlic as a home treatment. Make garlic oil by cooking two garlic cloves in two tablespoons of sesame oil or mustard oil until it turns blackish. Strain the solution. When it is bearably hot, use two to four drops of this oil in the infected ear as ear drops. Alternatively, you can also boil two or three fresh garlic cloves in water for five minutes, then crush them and add some salt. Put the mixture in a clean cloth and place it against the affected ear. Consuming two to three cloves of raw garlic daily also helps speed up the healing process. 3. Apple Cider Vinegar To get rid of the fungus that may be causing the ear infection, apple cider vinegar is a good option. Mix one part apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of water or alcohol. Soak a cotton ball in the solution. Put the cotton ball in your ear like a plug and leave it for about five minutes. Remove the cotton ball and lay down on your opposite side to drain the liquid from the ear. Use a hair dryer to dry your ear as much as possible. 4. Olive Oil One of the main causes of an ear infection is wax in the ear catching some fungal or bacterial growth leading to a blockage in the Eustachian tubes. You can easily clear the obstruction with the help of olive oil. Warm some olive oil slightly. Put a few drops of the warm oil into the infected ear. The oil will cause the wax to soften. Remove the infected wax with cotton-tipped swabs. Be careful not to put the swab too far in the ear or you might damage the eardrum. Oto-endoscopy : Retracted Ear Drum

00:38
Retracted Ear Drum : A retracted eardrum refers to a condition wherein the eardrum gets pulled or sucked into the area occurring behind it. This occurs when the pressure in the middle ear area becomes very low. A retracted eardrum is mostly caused due to repeated infections. The eardrum comprises two parts, the pars tensa, which is the main part of the eardrum, and the pars flaccida, which is a smaller part of the eardrum located above the pars tensa. Either or both of these parts may become retracted. The retracted segment of eardrum is often known as a retraction pocket. The terms “atelectasis” or sometimes “adhesive otitis media” can be used to describe retraction of a large area of the pars tensa. Symptoms of a Retracted Ear Drum : Many people with retracted ear drums experience some hearing loss which often goes away with adequate treatment. Other symptoms vary depending on the cause of ear drum retraction. Causes a Retracted Ear Drum- The following conditions are associated with auditory tube dysfunction and may cause a retracted ear drum: 1) middle ear infections 2) fluid in the ears (also called otitis media with effusion or serous otitis media) 3) auditory tube dysfunction from an upper respiratory infection, chronic allergies, sinusitis, or enlarged adenoids or tonsils which may block the tube 4) a history of chronic rupturing of the ear drum or a ruptured ear drum that does not heal properly A retracted ear drum is a sign of auditory tube dysfunction and the underlying cause needs to be found and treated. If left untreated, negative pressure inside the middle ear can lead to other problems including: 1) erosion of the ear canal 2) erosion of the small bones in the ear (specifically the incus and stapes) and possibly permanent hearing loss 3) cholesteatoma Tags : Ear : Auditory , Vestibular , Audiology , Acoustics , Hearing , Hearing Aid , External , Eustachian Tube , Cholesteatoma , Otitis , Otitis Media , Otitis Externa , Otosclerosis , Facial Nerve , Bell's Palsy , Meniere's , Vestibular Schwannoma , Deaf Culture , Cochlear , Cochlear Implant , Earache , Otalgia , Tinnitus , Vertigo , Audiometry , Matoid , Temporal , Audiogram , Keloid ,Squamous , Cerumen , Chochlea , Dizziness , Noise , Perforation , Pinna , Sound , Syringing , Microsuction , Ear Wax , Cleaning , Removal ,

My Help and Tips for Ear Ringing Pulsating Problem and Tinnitus Part 1 NON SCAM VIDEO POST!

19:11
(update oct 2013. i still have the ringing but recently i got a steroid shot for allergys. this didnt help the ringing but it has helped break my congestion down by 75% at night. its only been a week but so far that seems to of helped the congestion. Also ringing can come from wisdom teeth or also brain tumors. A good dr. will recommend you get a MRI to make sure you dont have a brain tumor. They are expensive though so make sure your insurance covers it) intro The reason i made this video was because ive had a ringing ear or tinnitus for 3 years now, and ive searched and found tons of fake videos of old people or hot girls on youtube who say they have this problem and then want you to buy a book or some shit. This is my personal story and help. Im doing this to help people out from the goodness of my heart and to warn people to not get scammed by other videos. what i cover In this video i will talk about the basics and tips of what ive learned talking to a few doctors and personal stuff from reading forums and etc. Also i made this video so you can show family members and friends who dont understand the pain your going through, im hoping you can show them this and it will explain to them the seriousness of pain your in and the limit of things you can do. If you dont want to watch the whole video i made a short list of problems and solutions. The video is over 20 minutes long and people simply may not have the time. I made this video long because i want the viewers to know me personally to connect with what im saying so you know that i know what were both going through and that i know wtf im talking about unlike other dumb videos. problems solutions quick list of whats in the video 1. friends/family wont understand your situation, learn to not get depressed over what they say 2. go to multiple doctors, and ents and get more then one opinion 3. allergy pills like claritan may help congestion/ringing 4. congestion can cause ringing 5. ringing is from a ear being unbalanced/congested which can cause being dizzy, losing your balance, and your vision going sideways 6. nasal spray may help 7. tmj can cause this 8. a mouth piece, professional made by a dentist or a temp sports mouth piece may help stop the grinding teeth at night which causes tmj 9. nightmares can cause grinding teeth which causes tmj which causes ear ringing 10. cold weather and climate changing doesnt help. the warmer the better but fresh air also helps by opening a window. 11. some drs make you come back multiple times to make more money off you, recognise a good dr and a bad dr. 12. theres a nerve in your throat that can be damaged that causes ringing ear, have a ent use a camer to examine it 13. soda/pop caffeine drinks can cause it 14. opiates as in pain killers can cause it and im assuming heroin prob could cause it (ive never done heroin so im just guessing, hopefully you odnt use it either) 15. try a nettie pot to help clean out the gunk in your nose 16. a dr can blow air and water in your air to clean the gunk out 17. theres a tube that goes from your ear to nose that can become clogged, a few ents suggest pinching your nose closed and blowing air to sel pop your ears to clear them. be carefull when you do this you dont want to damage your hearing, just clear it 18. tinnitus is caused when your nerves in your ear are shaved and damaged from loud exposure of noise over the years from music or work like power tools. its not very common in younger people. most of us just have ear ringing and not tinnitus, but tinnitus is the easiest way to describe and categorise it to family and friends. 19. there basically is no cure for tinnitus. 20. you can try over the counter pills or liquids that are supplements for your ear. the pill you can just take and the liquid you rub in your ear. what this does is provide natural stuff your ear should have in the first place but is lacking. although its not a cure it does somewhat soothe it. 21. hot showers temp clear up congestion for right now thats all i can remember. if you have any questions please please ask and ill help you as much as i can. like i said this video is to help you oh also one last thing that i forgot to mention in the video is wi-fi can cause ringing ears. try to make all your house connections chorded. and cell phone signals are bad, especially in a car with its windows up the connection bounces back and forth. you can buy a little item that plugs in your light sockets in your house to block wifi wavs. although i havent tried this i believe it could possibly help

How To Use Both The NeilMed Nasa Flo Neti Pot And Sinus Rinse Nasa Bottle

12:27
NASA FLO NETI POT STEP 1. Please wash your hands and rinse the device. Fill the NASAFLO® with 240 mL (8 fl oz) of lukewarm distilled, filtered or previously boiled water. Please do not use tap or faucet water to dissolve the mixture unless it has been previously boiled and cooled down. You may warm the water in a microwave, but we recommend that you warm it in increments of 5 to 10 seconds to avoid overheating, damaging the device or scalding your nasal passage. STEP 2. Cut the SINUS RINSE™ mixture packet at the corner and pour contents into the pot. Tighten the lid on the device securely. Place one finger over the hole of the cap and shake the device gently to dissolve the mixture. STEP 3. Standing in front of a sink, bend forward to your comfort level and tilt your head to one side. Keeping your mouth open, and without holding your breath, apply the tip of the device snugly against your nasal passage and ALLOW THE SOLUTION TO GENTLY FLOW until the solution starts draining from the opposite nasal passage. Use roughly half the solution in the NASAFLO® (120 mL / 4 fl oz). It should not enter your mouth unless you are tilting your head backwards. To adjust or stop the flow, you may place your finger over the hole of the cap, and depending on the seal, you may be able to control the flow. Step 4. Blow your nose very gently, without pinching nose completely to avoid pressure on eardrums. If tolerable, sniff in gently any residual solution remaining in the nasal passage once or twice, because this may clean out the posterior nasopharyngeal area, which is the area at the back of your nasal passage. At times, some solution will reach the back of your throat, so please spit it out. For NASAFLO® users, to help drain any residual solution, blow your nose gently while tilting your head forward and to the same side of the nasal passage you just rinsed. STEP 5. Now repeat steps 3 & 4 on your other nasal passage. If there is any solution left over, please discard it. We recommend you make a fresh solution each time you rinse. Rinse once or twice daily OR as directed by your physician. Saline is considered safe. The U.S. FDA is recommending that common cough and cold over the counter medicines not be given to babies and toddlers, and that antihistamines should not be given to children under age 6. NeilMed® NASAFLO®: Please clean with soap & water and let air dry SINUS RINSE: STEP 1. Please wash your hands. Fill the clean bottle with the designated volume of lukewarm distilled, filtered or previously boiled water. You may warm the water in a microwave in increments of 5 to 10 seconds to avoid overheating the water, damaging the device or scalding your nasal passage. STEP 2. Cut the SINUS RINSE™ mixture packet at the corner and pour its contents into the bottle. Tighten the cap and tube on the bottle securely. Place one finger over the tip of the cap and shake the bottle gently to dissolve the mixture. STEP 3. Standing in front of a sink, bend forward to your comfort level and tilt your head down. Keeping your mouth open, without holding your breath, place the cap snugly against your nasal passage. SQUEEZE BOTTLE GENTLY until the solution starts draining from the OPPOSITE nasal passage. Some may drain from your mouth. For a proper rinse, keep squeezing the bottle GENTLY until at least 1/4 to 1/2 (60 mL to 120 mL or 2 to 4 fl oz) of the bottle is used. Do not swallow the solution. To help drain any residual solution, blow your nose gently while tilting your head forward and to the opposite side of the nasal passage you just rinsed. STEP 5. Now repeat steps 3 and 4 for your other nasal passage. STEP 6. Clean the bottle and cap (see directions below). Air dry the SINUS RINSE™ bottle, cap, and tube on a clean paper towel or use NeilMed® NasaDOCK® or NasaDOCK plus™ (sold separately) to store the bottle, cap and tube. I ALSO FORGOT TO ADD, YOU NASAL PASSAGE WILL BECOME DRY, SO I SUGGEST YOU GET NASAL SPRAY FOR MOISTURE.

Auburn Coach Wife Kristi Malzahn Agrees with Match & eHarmony: Men are Jerks

12:23
My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling "Bravo!" in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.) Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality. Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely. And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)
