10 Handy Dusting Tips! Easy & Quick Ways How to Dust Your Home (Clean My Space)

Cleaning Expert, Melissa Maker, shares her 10 favourite dusting secrets with you. Visit http://www.cleanmyspace.com for the full post. #*#*#*JOIN OUR COMMUNITY#*#*#* BLOG: http://bit.ly/JoinOurSpace5 Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/cleanmyspace Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/cleanmyspace Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/cleanmyspace We love herding your stories, seeing your messy/clean pics and answering your questions! I take the time each week to review all the comments on our YouTube channel, blog, Facebook page, Twitter feed, etc. There are a copious amount of requests for dusting cheats. Here are 10 quickies that will cut your cleaning time and most of them won't cost you much. I'm all about figuring out shortcuts that will not affect the outcome of the task, or better yet, improve upon it altogether. So in no particular order, here you go: 10 - Ceiling fans and light fixtures - use a bendable duster to do this, you won't need a ladder (unless you have really high ceilings), you can bend to suit any light configuration (including a ceiling fan, just bend 90 degrees), and you can remove the cover and machine wash. I got this one at Wal Mart and it cost me under 8 bucks. 9 - Corners, moldings and door frames - spiderwebs and dust aplenty here. This area usually goes ignored, but here's the laziest, easiest way to do it. Grab a mop pole and old sport sock, flip the sock inside out and place over the end of the mop pole. Now, you've got an amazing high-duster! You can also use microfiber cloth secured around the pole with an elastic band. 8 - Walls - we get asked this a lot. I personally don't dust my walls, but if it is something that needs to be done, you can simply use a flat head mop (like a Swiffer) and use a Microfiber cloth sprayed with a bit of water. No need to use an expensive product here! Simply work the tool up and down the wall using a 'W' pattern to save time and energy and to ensure you are covering the entire space. 7 - Bathroom vents - these get super dusty - they run for a long time and suck up tons of dust. The next time you're cleaning, use your vacuum with brush attachment to suck up the dust. Now, your vents won't look like those of a mechanic's shop. 6 - Baseboards - revert to trick # 9, use a mop pole with a cloth or old sock attached to it, lightly sprayed. No more bending down, no more tough work. This makes the job so much easier and also allows you to access hard-to-reach areas like behind furniture. 5 - Delicate items - to clean ornaments, antique pieces, silk flowers or small delicate trinkets, lightly mist a small paintbrush and use that to do detailed dusting. 4 - Dust in the right direction - dust is like snow; it falls from the top to the bottom. So, when dusting, start with the highest items and work your way down to the lowest. If you don't, you'll have to repeat your work. Another good thing to keep in mind is to work in a spiral formation - working clockwise tackle all four corners and mouldings, then move down and dust all tops of frames, etc, lower again to dust all table tops and finally all baseboards. Then vacuum. Do you see how this allows no dust to fall on an already cleaned area? 3 - Use microfiber cloths - I've been spouting off about them for years. I can't understand why you would dust with anything else - it makes you spend more time cleaning! A microfiber cloth is electrostatically charged, meaning it literally attracts dust. It is also highly absorbent so it can last longer during your cleaning task. They won't leave lint or dust behind and leave surfaces streak-free. 2 - Clean your ducts every 5 years. That's a huge source of dust and allergens and if you have had renovations recently or have lived in the house after someone else has, this is the ultimate form of dusting. A vehicle will come by and vacuum your vents out, leaving no residual dust in the home environment due to dirty vents. 1 - To vacuum delicate areas or areas where you can't see, vacuum with a pantyhose covered dust brush. The nozzle can now collect dust while using a dust brush without running the risk of sucking up valuables or items you don't want vacuumed up! Hope that has helped you - what are your dusting tips?

After the Dust Settles: 4 Important Cleanup Tips After Renovation

01:47
After the dust settles: 4 Important cleanup tips after renovation. Learn more: https://cleanspace2day.com/?p=1994&preview=true Sound familiar? You’ve just completed a major home renovation and now you’re ready to kick back and enjoy your new found space. Mission accomplished, right? Well, hit the pause button for a moment . Before you can put your feet up, you need to complete a post-construction cleaning marathon. Your primary focus should be removing all the dust and debris left behind from the construction before it makes its way into your air ducts. Almost all home improvement projects produce dust particles that somehow sneak into every nook and cranny of the space you've so carefully renovated. Don't let layers of dust leave your freshly renovated home looking old and dingy. Strap on a protective mask and use this handy post-construction cleaning checklist from CleanSpace Cleaning Services to put the finishing touches on your beautiful new space. POST-CONSTRUCTION CLEANING CHECKLIST 1. Vacuum Carpets & Upholstery Curtains, upholstered furniture and carpeted floors are like magnets for dust and dirt particles. If allowed to settle after construction, the result can not only look filthy, but also cause itchy, irritating reactions to anyone living or invited to your place. Vacuum all soft surfaces, paying close attention to the details. Remove and vacuum each furniture cushion, and the underlying frames. Try vacuuming twice if you feel any residual dust after the first round. 2. Wipe Down Hard Surfaces Clean surfaces thoroughly from top to bottom. Start by wiping the dust off your walls – yes, even your walls collect dust during construction. Dry dusting is the safest way to remove the particles without damaging a wall's surface, but a damp cloth can also be used depending on your type of paint or wall covering. Refer to the paint or wallpaper manufacturer before using any moisture, and test a small area before proceeding. Moldings and cabinets are another favorite resting spot for dust particles. Take a duster to these areas next. Clean the interior shelves of all cabinets, paying special attention to those hard-to-reach corners. Wipe off countertops and any other flat surfaces before tackling the dirt and debris that's on or near the floor. Then, sweep out any visible dust, and mop your hard floors from wall to wall. 3. Clean Air Vents & Replace Filters In a large home renovation project means, dust and debris will mingle with the air itself, making its way to your vents. Even if you only renovated one part of your home, treating the air vents and filters in that space is critical to reduce the amount of dust that can spread through the rest of your home. Remove the vent covers from the surrounding walls and ceilings, clean each one with soap and warm water, and let them dry thoroughly. Replace any exposed air filters with fresh ones before replacing the vent covers. Breathing dusty air can lead to allergies and respiratory issues, so remember - DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP! 4. Be sure not to neglect the things. Clean any other furniture or items that were exposed to the air during the renovation. Even the smallest and most minute items can retain the debris left from the construction. Here's a quick list of commonly overlooked areas: ● Ceiling fan blades ● Light fixtures ● Lamp shades ● Electronics ● Small appliances ● Decorative items We don't blame you if you don’t want to deal with the mess after a disruptive renovation process. That’s what we’re here for. Let us rid you of the burden. Just call, CleanSpace Cleaning Services. Our expert cleaning crews are available 24/7/365 to come over and do the post-construction cleaning for you – quickly, safely and thoroughly. Soon, you'll be relaxing in your little slice of paradise with the chaotic memories of renovation behind you and a bright, clean future ahead.

How to Remove Dust Mites From A Mattress Fast

02:33
Have you ever heard the expression “sleeping with the enemy?” Well, we actually do sleep with the enemy, and most of the time we don't even know it. Mites are extremely small bugs that live in our mattresses, pillows, and bed sheets. Even though they are tiny, mites can cause immeasurable damage to people's health. They attack your respiratory system and cause extreme allergic reactions. Since they feed on dead skin cells, they live in places close to a food source, like our mattresses, pillows, curtains, stuffed animals, and as well as other places. In order to avoid mites and keep them from multiplying, here are some steps you can take: - Always air out your house; - Put your mattresses and pillows in the sun; - Wash the clothes that you haven't worn in a while; - Change your sheets every week; - Use a mattress pad and pillow case at all times. Another easy way to get rid of mites is by using this easy to make home remedy. It will clean your mattress and make it smell nice, as well as removing all stains and mites. Ingredients - 250 milliliters of hydrogen peroxide (10% solution); - 3 teaspoons of baking soda; - A few drops of liquid soap or dish detergent. Instructions Mix the peroxide with the baking soda until the baking soda is completely dissolved. Next, add 2 or 3 drops of liquid soap or dish detergent and mix again. Pour the liquid in an empty spray bottle. Shake it gently and spray it on your mattress. If there are stains, saturate those areas. When the foam dries (air dries or with a fan), remove the excess product with a brush or vacuum cleaner. It is important to use the mixture as soon as you make it, so it doesn't lose its cleaning integrity. ---------------------------------------- ▶ Subscribe to the channel - https://goo.gl/3tB19z ▶ Natural Cures en español - https://goo.gl/QcoLf2 ▶ नेचर क्योर्स - Natural Cures (Hindi) - https://goo.gl/okYDFd ▶ Mindfully Yours - https://goo.gl/qXiBjy Disclaimer: The materials and the information contained on Natural Cures channel are provided for general and educational purposes only and do not constitute any legal, medical or other professional advice on any subject matter. How to Dust-Proof Your Home

02:22
Watch more Housekeeping Tips videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/262264-How-to-DustProof-Your-Home Arm yourself with these proven strategies in the battle to banish dust from your home. Step 1: Understand where dust comes from Understand that dust comes from the tiny flakes of skin we constantly shed, fibers shed by fabrics, insect parts, pet dander, hair, pollen grains and mold spores, and dust mites. Step 2: Learn where dust hides Learn the places where dust hides, such as deep inside carpet, drapery, upholstered furniture, mattresses, and on hard surfaces, including all of those knick-knacks decorating your home. Tip If you can, replace wall-to-wall carpeting with wood, vinyl, or tile, and drapes with shades or blinds that are easier to keep free of dust. Step 3: Cover mattresses and pillows Enclose your mattresses and pillows in zippered, dust-proof covers. If you don't like plastic or vinyl, look for fabric, allergen-impermeable covers. Step 4: Vacuum and damp mop frequently Vacuum the carpeting and upholstered furniture frequently. Damp mop floor and walls. Tip Attaching a HEPA filter, available at some vacuum stores and allergy supply companies, to your vacuum cleaner will prevent some of that dust from circulating back into the air. Step 5: Beat and shake area rugs and cushions Take your area rugs and cushions outside to shake them vigorously or beat them every week. Some people like to use an old tennis racket. Step 6: Dust effectively Don't just move the dust around using feather dusters or dry rags – capture it! Use damp rags or spray your rags with a product that will hold the dust. Step 7: Wash sheets and blankets in hot water weekly Wash sheets and blankets in hot water every week. Cold water leaves up to ten percent of dust mites behind. Dry cleaning also kills mites. Step 8: Use air filters Install a HEPA air filter on your furnace or purchase a central air filtration unit, if you have forced-air heating and cooling. A portable HEPA filter unit may also help remove dust from the air. Did You Know? Did you know? A typical used mattress can have up to 10 million dust mites inside.

That mold spreads every time you open the fridge door, and that exposes anyone susceptible to allergies and could contaminate the food. In fact, I hate vacuuming the most but bathroom is a close second. But, I like a clean bathroom, or else I feel I can never quite get 'clean' in there! So here's my system, this is also the way we train our staff to clean the bathroom. Tools you'll need: Microfiber cloths for dusting, cleaning and polishing. I'd say to have 5. Glass cleaning cloth, for mirrors and windows (if you feel like cleaning your windows), have 1 All purpose cleaner (you may choose one with a disinfectant if you wish) Glass cleaner, but I prefer vinegar, and full-strength vinegar if you can find it Tub and tile cleaner (which can be used for toilets as well) Garbage bag, bag for recyclables, replacement garbage bag Mop pole, hair elastic Squeegee (optional, but helpful) Toilet bowl brush Double-sided sponge (ideally non-scratching) Cleaning toothbrush We'll use the 3 wave approach again: Wave 1: Tidying, organizing and pre-soaking Wave 2: Dusting, cleaning, wiping and polishing (always clean the sink last) Wave 3: Disinfecting, garbage, floors Detailed cleaning technique videos you may want to watch: How to clean a shower curtain and mat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNlUOrq9kIA How to clean a toilet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfDoGQ6urE0 Quick and easy shower cleaning routine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HC6uhc2YAws Clean a shower head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFqdgdKIero Watch and learn! For example the Bissell Big Green Machine uses one extra large brush roll, the Hoover Steamvac uses a set of spinning brushes, the Rug Doctor uses a vibrating brush, the Kirby uses a dry foam method and the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro uses 2 sets of brushrolls. Links in the description for prices and reviews of all the carpet shampooers in this test and lets get started. We applied Georgia red clay to our medium pile test carpet, let it dry for 24 hrs and vacuumed up the dry debris. All of them used the basic version of the shampoo, with no pretreatment. For the first test we did 4 passes each, 2 with the water trigger pressed, and two without. The winner to this point was the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro, with the Rug Doctor Widepath coming in 2nd and the Hoover Steamvac 3rd. We then repeated the process adding two more dry passes and the results were pretty much the same, with the Bissell Revolution the clear winner. I have to say the Bissell Proheat 2x Revolution was very impressive, it’s the 2nd cheapest unit of all 5 we tested and it still blew the competition away. It comes with two types of handheld units for cleaning stairs or upholstery, and the hose was the easiest of all 5 units to attach and use. It has a feature called clean shot which is a foot pedal that shoots cleaning solution on to particularly tough stains. But the thing that really impressed me the besides being really cool looking, was its ease of use. It really was like using a vacuum cleaner, where you can clean on both a forward push or a backwards pull. It’s the lightest of all 5, and it makes you want to clean very fast, because you can, but really its best to go slowly for better results. So yeah it’s the best carpet cleaner I have seen to date. How to Clean a Carpet with a Hot Water Extraction Machine - How To Use a Rug Doctor

04:20
Subscribe and visit our weekly podcast for more tips https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/fix-it-home-improvement/id880903087?mt=2 I show the steps on how to clean a carpet with a hot water extraction machine. Your carpet is grabbing dust, dirt, bacteria, pollen, dust mites, smoke and other allergenic substances from the air. Government studies have shown that people get sick up to 4 times more often when carpeting is removed from homes or work places. So the key to a healthy home is keeping your carpets clean. Vacuuming is an important maintenance routine, but if you are not using fine particle bags or filters, you are putting the smallest particles back into the air. The EPA stated that using a professional hot water carpet cleaner to steam clean a carpet will get a rug 1,500 percent cleaner than vacuuming. Using a carpet cleaner traps dirt, dust, bacteria and dust mites into the hot soapy water to be sucked up by the vacuum action of a carpet cleaner. The result is much cleaner carpets and much cleaner air quality. For cleaning stains on carpet, you can add spot and stain remover to a hot water extraction machine to pull up difficult stains.

How to Deep Clean Your Carpet

01:11
Watch more Housekeeping Tips videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/354792-How-to-Deep-Clean-Your-Carpet Deep-cleaning your carpet can offer benefits including getting rid of dust mites and allergens. Not to mention dirt. Step 1: Vacuum Vacuum your carpet thoroughly. Step 2: Apply a cleaner Apply a traffic-lane cleaner to areas of the carpet that are stained or heavily soiled with grease, oil, and dirt. Step 3: Deep clean Clean the carpet with a deep-cleaning machine, following the manufacturer's instructions. The deep cleaner forces a mixture of cleaning solution and water deep into the carpet while vacuuming out the dirt and liquid. Tip As an alternative to purchasing a deep-cleaning machine, consider renting one. Step 4: Dry carpet Allow the carpet to dry. Although the deep-cleaning machine will extract most of the moisture from your carpet, it will still take several hours to dry coompletely. Did You Know? James W. Spangler received the first U.S. patent for an electric vacuum cleaner in 1908.
