10 Handy Dusting Tips! Easy & Quick Ways How to Dust Your Home (Clean My Space)

I take the time each week to review all the comments on our YouTube channel, blog, Facebook page, Twitter feed, etc. There are a copious amount of requests for dusting cheats. Here are 10 quickies that will cut your cleaning time and most of them won't cost you much. I'm all about figuring out shortcuts that will not affect the outcome of the task, or better yet, improve upon it altogether. So in no particular order, here you go: 10 - Ceiling fans and light fixtures - use a bendable duster to do this, you won't need a ladder (unless you have really high ceilings), you can bend to suit any light configuration (including a ceiling fan, just bend 90 degrees), and you can remove the cover and machine wash. I got this one at Wal Mart and it cost me under 8 bucks. 9 - Corners, moldings and door frames - spiderwebs and dust aplenty here. This area usually goes ignored, but here's the laziest, easiest way to do it. Grab a mop pole and old sport sock, flip the sock inside out and place over the end of the mop pole. Now, you've got an amazing high-duster! You can also use microfiber cloth secured around the pole with an elastic band. 8 - Walls - we get asked this a lot. I personally don't dust my walls, but if it is something that needs to be done, you can simply use a flat head mop (like a Swiffer) and use a Microfiber cloth sprayed with a bit of water. No need to use an expensive product here! Simply work the tool up and down the wall using a 'W' pattern to save time and energy and to ensure you are covering the entire space. 7 - Bathroom vents - these get super dusty - they run for a long time and suck up tons of dust. The next time you're cleaning, use your vacuum with brush attachment to suck up the dust. Now, your vents won't look like those of a mechanic's shop. 6 - Baseboards - revert to trick # 9, use a mop pole with a cloth or old sock attached to it, lightly sprayed. No more bending down, no more tough work. This makes the job so much easier and also allows you to access hard-to-reach areas like behind furniture. 5 - Delicate items - to clean ornaments, antique pieces, silk flowers or small delicate trinkets, lightly mist a small paintbrush and use that to do detailed dusting. 4 - Dust in the right direction - dust is like snow; it falls from the top to the bottom. So, when dusting, start with the highest items and work your way down to the lowest. If you don't, you'll have to repeat your work. Another good thing to keep in mind is to work in a spiral formation - working clockwise tackle all four corners and mouldings, then move down and dust all tops of frames, etc, lower again to dust all table tops and finally all baseboards. Then vacuum. Do you see how this allows no dust to fall on an already cleaned area? 3 - Use microfiber cloths - I've been spouting off about them for years. I can't understand why you would dust with anything else - it makes you spend more time cleaning! A microfiber cloth is electrostatically charged, meaning it literally attracts dust. It is also highly absorbent so it can last longer during your cleaning task. They won't leave lint or dust behind and leave surfaces streak-free. 2 - Clean your ducts every 5 years. That's a huge source of dust and allergens and if you have had renovations recently or have lived in the house after someone else has, this is the ultimate form of dusting. A vehicle will come by and vacuum your vents out, leaving no residual dust in the home environment due to dirty vents. 1 - To vacuum delicate areas or areas where you can't see, vacuum with a pantyhose covered dust brush. The nozzle can now collect dust while using a dust brush without running the risk of sucking up valuables or items you don't want vacuumed up! Hope that has helped you - what are your dusting tips?

15 Ways to Get Rid of DUST MITES Quickly

06:06
House dust mites are tiny creatures, about a quarter of a millimetre long. They live off human skin scales which have been partially digested by moulds and thrive in humid environments. Mites are found in bedding, carpets, soft furnishings and clothing. In people allergic to dust mite, it is often not the mite itself but proteins in their droppings which cause the allergy. Each mite produces about 20 of these waste droppings every day and the droppings continue to cause allergic symptoms even after the mite has died. House dust mite allergy is very common and is associated with asthma, eczema and perennial allergic rhinitis. A significant amount of exposure to house dust mite allergen happens in the bed, so taking precautions in the bedroom by using allergy-proof covers on bedding, washing it regularly can sometimes help, although clinical trials suggest that multiple measures need to be taken, possibly including the use of chemicals called acaricides, in order to see an effect. However, remember that dust mite allergen is found in all rooms of the house, on the floor and in soft furnishings, not just in the bedroom. Measures to avoid house dust mite will lower, but do not totally remove, dust mite allergens. Often, this will be sufficient to significantly improve symptoms, but sometimes, the reduction may simply not be enough to result in a noticeable difference. There is no way to predict whether someone will benefit from avoidance measures, except by trying them. Remember that it is better to properly carry out several allergen avoidance measures in order to see an improvement in symptoms. Just doing one or two things half-heartedly may not make any difference. Controlling house dust mite allergens At home: Most efforts at controlling dust mites should be aimed at areas of the home where you spend most of your time and where dust mite load is greatest, i.e. bedrooms and living areas. Use allergen-proof barrier covers on all mattresses, duvets and pillows. These should be breathable and should completely enclose the item. Buy products that have been tested to make sure that they prevent the escape of house dust mite allergen. Wash all bedding that is not encased in barrier covers (e.g. sheets, blankets) every week. Washing at 60 degrees centigrade or above will kill mites. House dust mite allergen dissolves in water so washing at lower temperatures will wash the allergen away temporarily, but the mites will survive and produce more allergen after a while. Allergic children should not sleep in the bottom bunk bed where allergen can fall onto them. If possible remove all carpeting in the bedroom. Vacuum hard floors regularly with a high-filtration vacuum cleaner (see below). Remove all carpeting from concrete floors. Such floors trap moisture allowing dust mites and mould spores to thrive. Seal the floor with a vapour barrier, and then cover it with a washable surface such as vinyl or linoleum. There are certain types of flooring designed to prevent allergen build up (details of suitable floorings are available from Allergy UK). Where carpets cannot be removed, vacuum regularly with a high-filtration vacuum cleaner. Use a high-temperature steam-cleaner to kill mites effectively. Products are available that can be sprayed on carpets to kill mites; these are effective but should be used with care if you suffer from respiratory symptoms, and should not be used in areas where children play on the carpet, or on soft toys or pillows. Use a high-filtration vacuum cleaner with filters capable of retaining a high proportion of the smallest particles (HEPA filter, S-class filter or similar). Details of suitable vacuum cleaners are available from Allergy UK. Damp-wipe all surfaces each week (pelmet tops, window sills, tops of cupboards and so forth). Use light washable cotton curtains, and wash them frequently. Reduce unnecessary soft furnishings Vacuum all surfaces of upholstered furniture at least twice a week. Washable stuffed toys should be washed as frequently and at the same temperature as bedding. Alternatively, if the toy cannot be washed at 60 degrees place it in a plastic bag in the freezer for at least 12 hours once a month and then wash at the recommended temperature. Reduce humidity by increasing ventilation. Use trickle-vents in double-glazing, or open windows. Use extract fans in bathrooms and kitchens. If necessary use a dehumidifier to keep indoor humidity under 50% (but over 30%)

How to Remove Dust Mites From A Mattress Fast

02:33
Have you ever heard the expression “sleeping with the enemy?” Well, we actually do sleep with the enemy, and most of the time we don't even know it. Mites are extremely small bugs that live in our mattresses, pillows, and bed sheets. Even though they are tiny, mites can cause immeasurable damage to people's health. They attack your respiratory system and cause extreme allergic reactions. Since they feed on dead skin cells, they live in places close to a food source, like our mattresses, pillows, curtains, stuffed animals, and as well as other places. In order to avoid mites and keep them from multiplying, here are some steps you can take: - Always air out your house; - Put your mattresses and pillows in the sun; - Wash the clothes that you haven't worn in a while; - Change your sheets every week; - Use a mattress pad and pillow case at all times. Another easy way to get rid of mites is by using this easy to make home remedy. It will clean your mattress and make it smell nice, as well as removing all stains and mites. Ingredients - 250 milliliters of hydrogen peroxide (10% solution); - 3 teaspoons of baking soda; - A few drops of liquid soap or dish detergent. Instructions Mix the peroxide with the baking soda until the baking soda is completely dissolved. Next, add 2 or 3 drops of liquid soap or dish detergent and mix again. Pour the liquid in an empty spray bottle. Shake it gently and spray it on your mattress. If there are stains, saturate those areas. When the foam dries (air dries or with a fan), remove the excess product with a brush or vacuum cleaner. It is important to use the mixture as soon as you make it, so it doesn't lose its cleaning integrity. ---------------------------------------- ▶ Subscribe to the channel - https://goo.gl/3tB19z ▶ Natural Cures en español - https://goo.gl/QcoLf2 ▶ नेचर क्योर्स - Natural Cures (Hindi) - https://goo.gl/okYDFd ▶ Mindfully Yours - https://goo.gl/qXiBjy Disclaimer: The materials and the information contained on Natural Cures channel are provided for general and educational purposes only and do not constitute any legal, medical or other professional advice on any subject matter. The average person sweats out about 1/2 a pint of perspiration each and every night. Seeing as how we spend almost 1/3 of our entire life lying horizontally on a mattress - one would think it would stand alone atop of our list of regular cleaning duties..but lets face it, we rarely think about cleaning the mattress. Mattresses can harbor spills, stains, dirt, dust, dust mites and worse - so, maintaining a clean mattress is important for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that your partially clothed body is lying on top of it with only a sheet separating you. ** Join The Fastest Growing Cleaning Community on the Internet! ** Blog: http://bit.ly/JoinOurSpace4 Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/cleanmyspace Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/cleanmyspace

How to Remove Greasy Fingerprints From Walls! Easy Home Cleaning Ideas (Clean My Space)

02:01
Maker's Cleaning Cloths: http://MakersClean.com Subscribe for a Cleaner Life! http://bit.ly/CleanMySpaceYT Join the CleanMySpace.com Community! http://bit.ly/JoinOurSpace5 Greasy fingerprints happen everywhere. Here's the mind=blown method for removing them! Visit www.cleanmyspace.com for more details. For example, I use coconut oil as a post-shower moisturizer. I also have allergies and sneeze about 6 times in a row at rather inopportune times. Those two random pieces of information meld together to create numerous greasy handprints on my bathroom wall caused by me using the wall as a support structure during one of my sneezing fits. I'm sure you have similar stories. An abrasive product or all-purpose cleaner won't work on greasy wall fingerprints. Also, you can ruin your paint job if you aren't careful! I have a ridiculously simple solution. Here's what you need: - Chalk (white) - Microfibre cloth (dry) - Water See, I told you this was simple. Here's what to do: - Take a piece of chalk rub it over the fingerprints. Remember to use it on an angle. If you use the chalk on a sharp edge, you'll leave small scratches in the paint. - Leave it for 5 minutes or so. - Take a dry microfiber cloth and dust off the chalk residue. You'll see remnants of the chalk directly over the oily marks. That means the chalk has stuck to the oil and removed it from the wall (success!!). - Add a bit of water onto the microfiber cloth and go over the prints once more, to wipe up the dusty prints. Let it dry and you'll see, the oily marks are goners! This is magical...I love doing this trick because it's so easy and works like a charm. Watch more Housekeeping Tips videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/230324-How-to-Remove-Dust-from-Anything Dust is everywhere. Here are some novel ways to remove it. Step 1: Clean paintings Remove dust from water-color and oil paintings by patting them with a slice of bread. Step 2: Clean glass surfaces Use fabric softener sheets to eliminate dust and dirt from eyeglasses, television screens, and monitor screens. Tip For more efficient general purpose dusting, cover each hand with a wet sock. Step 3: Clean under your refrigerator Remove dust from under your refrigerator with the brush on the ice scraper for your car windows. Step 4: Clean your piano’s keyboard Use your vacuum with a soft brush attachment to remove dust from your piano’s keyboard. Tip To make an all-purpose duster, mix together the warm water, boiled linseed oil, dish soap, and ammonia and soak a rag in it. Let the rag dry and store for future use. Step 5: Clean antiques Remove dust from antiques using an old shaving brush, old flannel sheets, or a chamois cloth. Did You Know? How to Clean a Carpet: "What Now!" circa 1960 Monsanto & National Institute of Rug Cleaning

more at http://shops.quickfound.net/ "On carpet cleaning. Nice sequence of late 1950s-early 1960s teenagers dancing in living room, making mess." NEW VERSION with improved video & sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9mDFnIJBH0 Public domain film from the Prelinger Archive, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpet_cleaning Carpet cleaning, for beautification, and the removal of stains, dirt, grit, sand, and allergens can be achieved by several methods, both traditional and modern... Sanitary Maintenance magazine reports that carpet cleaning is widely misunderstood, and chemical developers have only within recent decades created new carpet-care technologies. Particularly, encapsulation and other green technologies work better, are easier to use, require less training, save more time and money, and lead to less resoiling than prior methods. Within the USA, the professional carpet-cleaning industry is primarily educated and unofficially governed by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)... It accepts five basic dry and wet professional cleaning methodologies... Hot water extraction vs steam cleaning Although there is an industrial cleaning process that is in fact steam cleaning, in the context of carpet cleaning, "steam cleaning" is usually a misnomer for or mischaracterization of the hot water extraction cleaning method. The hot water extraction cleaning method uses equipment that sprays heated water (not steam), sometimes with added cleaning chemicals, on the carpet while simultaneously vacuuming the sprayed water along with any dislodged and dissolved dirt. Many carpet manufacturers recommend professional hot water extraction as the most effective carpet cleaning method. Actual steam could damage manmade carpet fibers or shrink natural fibers such as wool. The primary advantage of the hot water extraction cleaning method is that effective cleaning is possible using only hot water, or hot water with very dilute detergent solutions. This avoids the problems associated with detergent residues... The primary disadvantage of the hot water extraction cleaning method is that 100% of the water used cannot be removed. If poor water extraction is achieved, in conditions of high humidity, mold growth could occur... In high-pressure hot water extraction ("steam cleaning"), after preconditioning, with alkaline agents such as ammonia solution for synthetic carpets or acidic solution (such as vinegar solution) for woolen carpets, and agitation with a grooming brush or an automatic scrubbing machine, a pressurized manual or automatic cleaning tool (such as a wand) passes over the surface several times to thoroughly rinse out all preconditioner, residue, and particulates. If an alkaline detergent is used on a woolen fibre, use of an acetic acid solution will restore neutral fiber pH. The acid rinse thus neutralizes the alkaline residues, and can contribute to softening cleaned fabrics. The steam-cleaning system uses detergent-based solutions. The surface is saturated, typically taking 12-24 hours to dry. Some carpet-cleaning solutions are carbonated to dissolve organic material more effectively... Dry-cleaning Many dry carpet-cleaning systems rely on specialized machines; dry carpet-cleaning machines include those manufactured by Brush and Clean, Host Dry, and Whittaker System. These systems are mostly technically "very low moisture" (VLM) systems, relying on dry compounds complemented by application cleaning solutions, and are growing significantly in market share due in part to their very rapid drying time, a significant factor for 24-hour commercial installations. Dry-cleaning and "very low moisture" systems are also often faster and less labor-intensive than wet-extraction systems. Heavily soiled areas require the application of manual spotting, or of pretreatments, preconditioners, or "traffic-lane cleaners", which are detergents or emulsifiers that break the binding of different soils to carpet fibers over a short period of time, commonly sprayed onto carpet prior to the primary use of the dry-cleaning system. One chemical dissolves the greasy films that bind soils and prevent effective soil removal by vacuuming. The solution may add a solvent like d-limonene, petroleum byproducts, glycol ethers, or butyl agents. The amount of time the pretreatment "dwells" in the carpet should be less than 15 minutes, due to the thorough carpet brushing common to these "very low moisture" systems, which provides added agitation to ensure the pretreatment works fully through the carpet...

How to Clean Carpet at Home - 4 Carpet Cleaning Secrets

How to Clean Carpet at Home - 4 Carpet Cleaning Secrets How to Clean Carpet at Home ► ► ► https://youtu.be/ONL-hKOUgEk A clean carpet is important both for the appearance of your home and the health of the people who live in it. Stains and dingy carpet can detract from a peaceful atmosphere, while allergens and dirt can contribute to respiratory problems. There are a number of ways to clean carpet, depending on the nature of the mess. Prepare the room to be vacuumed Pick up any toys, papers or other objects that will obstruct the passage of the vacuum cleaner. • Check for small items like coins that might damage the mechanism. • Remember to look under furniture • Dust the blinds, furniture, windowsills, and baseboards first. The falling dust can then be vacuumed up. Use a nozzle attachment to clean hard to reach areas The edges of the carpets and the baseboards often collect dust which should first be removed. • If furniture cannot be moved, use the cranny extension to reach under couches and other pieces to remove dust bunnies. Vacuum both horizontally and vertically First vacuum the entire room forward and back, then repeat the process going left to right. Carpet fibers are typically twisted, and by going both directions you can ensure that every part of the fiber has been reached. Vacuum regularly How "regularly" will depend on a few factors. In general, it's recommended to vacuum at least once a week per person in your household or roughly 20 pounds of pet. For example, a couple with two cats should vacuum three times a week. A single person with a 60 pound dog should vacuum four times a week. Remember that one of the main reasons to vacuum is to remove hair and dander. A large pet will usually produce more of both compared to a smaller one. • If your carpet is visibly soiled with dirt or pet hair but isn't due for cleaning, forget this rule of thumb and vacuum more often. Get it here: https://tinyurl.com/o39tgn4 Whether you are considering residential or commercial carpet cleaning, professional services are always an excellent option. While the do-it-yourself expert will talk about how much money you can save by renting a cleaner and doing it on your own, professionals will do the job right. Indeed, there are many great reasons why you need professional carpet cleaning including access to better equipment and enhanced knowledge of cleaning techniques. Indeed, professional carpet cleaners must maintain the very best cleaning equipment in order to remain competitive in their field. Not only do they often have state-of-the-art carpet cleaners, but professionals are very careful to ensure that their equipment is in good working order. This means they will often do a much better cleaning job than you can by renting or buying a carpet cleaner of your own. In fact, equipment you see advertised at your local supermarket or hardware store likely cannot compare with the cleaning power of industrial carpet cleaners. As you can see, even just based on equipment alone, professionals will do a much better job. Another reason you should seek professional carpet cleaning is knowledge of carpets. There are many different carpet types, and each of them may have special cleaning requirements. A professional carpet cleaner will not only know more about your carpet, but s/he will also know the best way to clean it. In addition, their enhanced carpet knowledge will ensure that your floors are not damaged or destroyed during the cleaning process. Professionals will use the right type of cleaner and equipment for your carpet. For optimum cleaning, professional services will consider your type of carpet and the amount of traffic in the area to make sure that your rug or carpet is cleaned thoroughly and all dirt and allergens are removed. Finally, many do-it-yourself cleaners will not consider the type of cleaning solution they use. In fact, if you've ever cleaned your own carpets, you probably can relate to heading down to the supermarket and buying whichever carpet cleaner they have on the shelf. If there are multiple options, you may not know which one is most suited to your carpet or the cleaning job at hand. Moreover, some commercially available carpet cleaners may not be up to the task, especially if you have stubborn carpet stains. Professional cleaners can actually help improve air quality in your home by ensuring that your carpets are completely cleaned. This means they often utilize special detergents or spot removers that not only remove dirt, mold, and bacteria, but leave your carpet looking like new. Indeed, hiring professional carpet cleaners can be costly, but it could actually save you a great deal of time and effort. Professionally cleaned carpets need to be cleaned less often as they are cleaned more meticulously using the correct equipment and cleaners.
