Wooden Boat Building Step 1: Lofting Boat Plans
Learn how to loft the boat plans of a plywood sailing dinghy and how to cut the side panels hassle free! This is the first step of building the Kingfisher 14 designed by Selway Fisher: http://www.selway-fisher.com/GPDinghyover13.htm#GFI I have chose the stitch and glue boat building technique as it does not require previous experience nor expensive tools. Start by marking out the hull panels. Do this by drawing down the station lines 305 mm apart on the sheets of plywood and then transfer the dimensions given to each station line. Using a thin batten of wood or plastic (old curtain rail) held in place by weights, draw in each curve. Two of each panel shape are required (port and starboard). It is easier to mark out only one panel side and when this has been cut out, trace around this for it's mating panel. The 2 panels can then be cramped together for planing up so ensuring a matching pair. Plywood panel size is typically 2.5 m or 8 ft. In order to obtain the needed hull panels length, two or more pieces will need to be joined. See more details in the next video. Building a Cedar Strip Canoe (Full Montage)
My favorite stuff on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/shop/aguydoingstuff This video is a montage of an 18-video canoe building series I spent 8 months making in 2016. Watch all the videos here: https://goo.gl/624XaV THANK YOU!!! - to everyone who donated to #ripcanoe to make this possible - to people that have been watching, liking, commenting on, and sharing my videos - to all the people that helped me during the build process - to my beautiful wife for helping so much and putting up with all the sawdust Disclaimer: I don’t always follow best practices for safety (working without gloves and respirators, free-hand cutting on a tablesaw, forgetting to wear goggles). Everyone has their own risk tolerance, I’ve developed some bad habits over the years, I’ll probably end up regretting it when I get cancer at 50 or cut some fingers off. Please be careful for your own sake when doing stuff. Here are a couple good resources to learn more about Cedar Strip Canoe Building: https://www.amazon.com/Canoecraft-Illustrated-Guide-Woodstrip-Construction/dp/1552093425 - “Canoecraft” is the cedar strip canoe building bible. Buy it and read the whole book before you start building. http://forum.woodenboat.com/ - This site is actually really helpful. Usually if I type a specific boat building question into google a previous forum post from the Woodenboat Forum is near the top. You can also post your own questions. http://www.instructables.com/id/Building-A-Cedar-Strip-Canoe/ - This guy (Jim Clem) made a very detailed step-by-step guide to cedar strip canoe building. There are a lot of helpful process explanations for some of the trickier parts of building. I used his blog a lot while building my first canoe. Feel free to comment on this video if you have any questions! Thanks for watching! 11' Foam Kayak!
Made from 1.5" EPS foam (@32 sq ft). Surfaces are 2 layers laminated together using Great Stuff spray foam and low temp hot glue. Once the general shape is established, I carve away the excess with a wire brush and then sand everything smooth with 60 grit sand paper. So far this project has cost $22 in foam (direct from the manufacturer)and 3 cans of spray foam (@$24)! Less than $50! THAT'S A LOW PRICE!

Building a Stitch & Glue Kayak: Complete Video
This is the complete Chesapeake Light Craft kayak building video, filmed in 2001. John Harris walks you through every step in the construction of a Chesapeake 16 kayak. Straightforward to build, handsome, and with famously benign handling qualities on the water, 8000 Chesapeake-series kits have been built around the world, with countless more from plans. The techniques here are showing their age; kayak kit technology has moved on a bit from 2001 and construction has gotten easier. (For example, since 2005 or so we've been using simpler puzzle joints rather than the scarf joints seen here..) The goal of the Chesapeake Light Craft team was to create a boatbuilding video of unprecedented clarity. High production values and an emphasis on watchability has made this one popular. The droll sight gags and general levity of the piece were deliberate---prior to 2001, boatbuilding videos seemed to specialize in somnolence, taciturnity, and cheap-wedding-video visuals. It seems to work. You can purchase a copy of the DVD here: http://www.clcboats.com/shop/boat-building-books-kayaking-dvds/boat-building-kayaking-dvds/

Small boat building - High performance plywood designs - sail & motor
Plywood and epoxy is a great combination! You can easily create inexpensive high performance boats in your garage. I don't think people realise just how good a ply boat is using epoxy resin. You don't need exotic and expensive materials to build a fast lightweight boat. Performance unheard of with an aluminium tinny - like planing with 2 people and a 3hp motor.. Plans are available for 2 of the boats in this video "Noosa" and "Tewantin". Sailing boat plans for a 4.7m plywood Proa named "Geelong" shown in the video are nearly ready. The BattleYak: The full build of a foam fishing kayak
It's taken forever to get this video done, but here it is. This is a full run through of everything I did to build my SOT foam fishing kayak. The video IS long, but will give you a great head start if you're looking to build an affordable, totally customized fishing kayak that has exactly what you want. You can find over 200 build photos on photobucket: http://s76.photobucket.com/user/AF_Caveman/library/The%20BattleYak?sort=3&page=1 Credit for the foundation goes to Josh Withe and his SAWFISH kayak design found here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Sawfish-foam-kayak-build-a-funtional-light-wieght-/ I took his design and made some modifications to come up with my kayak. He does a great job walking you through the process. Along the way, I also got a lot of ideas from the "Kayak DIY Projects and Tutorials" Facebook group. With over 13,000 members, there's an insane amount of ideas and experience to draw from. One of its founders has a YouTube channel that is definitely worth checking out (see below). Please feel free to ask any questions. I'm more than happy to answer them as quickly as I can. If you enjoy the video, a Like or Subscription are always appreciated!! Thanks for watching!! The Birth Of A Dugout Canoe by Northmen
This is a documentary movie uncovering the difficult and time consuming process of making traditional expanded dugout canoe using mostly traditional hand tools and techniques. The master woodworker in this movie is Richard (Rihards Vidzickis) - an experienced green wood worker, wood sculptor and dugout canoe maker. Richard’s passion to green wood and solid wood creations has grown together with him since his childhood days. Richard’s father is also a wood worker and carpenter and has led his son into the beautiful world of working with wood. Richard has gone through all the traditional steps of becoming a master woodworker - starting from an apprentice, then journeyman and then receiving his Master degree in Latvian chamber of crafts. Richard’s passion to wood is not only sculpturing and carving it but also knowing the wood in a scientific level. So Richard has studied in Technical university as a student and reached his degree of Doctor in engineering materials science, so he has combined the craft, nature and science in his life and work. While working in furniture making during the studies, with making different kinds of difficult wood carving for Jugend, Barrocal, Renesance design style furniture, Richard has discovered that he tends to get back to more rustic, robust and natural forms of wood, so he created a park of massive wooden sculptures, wood crafts museum and live workshop where Richard lives and creates wooden bowls, plates, boats and accepts visitors to share his work and lifestyle. One sheet Fluted plastic kayak and sail boat
The Lil' Dipper hull is made from one folded sheet of 4mm fluted plastic. 4 bolts hold the hull together. Two 1x2 rail boards were grooved and added to help support the hull. The forward and rear deck was screwed down to these rails using washer screws. The seat is made of multi cross layered coroplast. It also adjusts in angle and bends forward for cargo storage in the rear. No glue, tape or painting was needed. Total weight, 19 pounds. I made a light weight paddle using PVC and scrap fluted plastic. Several paddle design variations were tried out before deciding on this. The boat has no attachment point for a keel or skeg. The white 'U' shaped fin was an attempt to keep the boat from wandering, but it created too much drag for my liking. I may attach it again when a good breeze comes along for proper sailing. I really like this boat! Plans available soon on my website (ElkinsDIY.com)

Canoe I Built & My Family
This is a plywood canoe I built about 3-4 years ago. I experimented when building this canoe by building it out of 5mm underlayment plywood that I purchased from Home Depot for $11.99 per 4'x8' sheet. The underlayment plywood was constructed with water proof/resistant glue and had very few voids. The boat took only two sheets to build and can be built in one weekend. I covered the hull inside and out with epoxy and fiberglass the exterior with 6oz cloth. It only weighs around 49 lbs and is about 13'8" long with 35 1/4" beam. The boat will hold 420lbs with about 6" freeboard. Please let me know if you want more information about how I designed and built this boat. Please remember to like subscribe and comment!

First Boat Build, Plywood Skiff
Check out my other video showing my added electric propulsion I put on this later..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_0cbRMIkQg I'm just an old retired carpenter, not a professional boat builder. I just wanted to see if I could do this. I didn't have any plans or drawings. I just watched lots of videos and looked at a lot of pictures and came up with something that pleased me. It originally started out as a pirogue, but quickly evolved into a skiff. Most builders recommend 1/4 inch plywood, but I chose 3/8 plywood for it's added strength. Of course it added weight too. Please don't consider this as a "how to" in boat building. There's lots of videos on You Tube for that subject that are better than mine. I just wanted to pique your interest and maybe inspire you to also build a boat. Feel free to ask any questions you like, but remember I'm a You Tube newbie. So, be gentle. P.S. I'm not in any way affiliated or make any money from the product NP1. It's just a great product that I used extensively in my work as a professional carpenter and builder and I highly recommend it for lots of applications.

How to Build a Mini Wooden Boat - Wooden Strip Hull on the plywood boat #16
I show you the next phases in how to build a mini wooden boat #16 - Electric Powered - Making the hull with plywood strips. In today's video I show you how to build a wooden boat, I continue to add wood strips to the hull and boat frames from stem to stern, using gorilla glue and nails to hold everything in place till it dries. This wooden boat will be waterproofed. Typically a wooden boat, cedar strip canoe style of building a wood boat, but I decided to use this technique to create the very unique hull design I have came up with. With just a couple of months now, until I take this boat from New Jersey all across the USA to Seattle Washington, on a huge small wooden boat tour, meeting my subscribers as I go. And of course as most of you now know, at the end of this journey, I will be giving the boat away to one of my lucky subscribers. So make sure to like all the videos own the series to be entered to win. This wooden boat is my very first boat build project ever. I have made plenty of small mistakes, but nothing bad that cannot be overcome. I am using many boatbuilding methods, to make this craft, which will be powered by a powerful electric trawling motor. I have used plywood sheets, and now am using plywood strips to create build the hull on it's frames, typically used for much larger boats. I will soon be fiberglassing the outer hull and covering with epoxy to make waterproof. I will also need to make a small pool shortly too, to see how she sits in water without the batteries and motor and myself added. One thing for sure, is that the boat will be seaworthy and water tight, by the time aI am done. My dad introduced me to the art of wooden boatbuilding when I was young. He created his large scale model boats, ships, lifeboats and tugs on the kitchen or dinner tables of our life, often using marine ply. My love for old wooden boats took shape in the form of old galleons that I would sculpt from clay or carve from balsa wood on the dinner table between meals. This "How to Build a Wooden Boat" series of videos have been an absolute pleasure to create. I'll be sad when I batten down the last of the parts and fiberglass and epoxy the craft to be seaworthy (or at least river and lake worthy) To be out on the stillness of the waters and have my drone hovering by me as I cruise on by. What an amazing year this is going to be, traveling across the USA. Meeting some of you along the journey and possibly taking our wooden boats out on the water together. And before any of this can happen, I still need to take my boating license tests and get any licenses required to make it all legal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Listen to the brand new Podcast, available on iTunes and Stitch currently and also on my website, here: 1. iTunes: http://apple.co/2n5vpFl 2.
