Measures of Central Tendency Part 1 | Class 11 Economics

13:45
In statistics, a central tendency (or measure of central tendency) is a central or typical value for a probability distribution.[1] It may also be called a center or location of the distribution. Colloquially, measures of central tendency are often called averages. The term central tendency dates from the late 1920s.[2] The most common measures of central tendency are the arithmetic mean, the median and the mode. A central tendency can be calculated for either a finite set of values or for a theoretical distribution, such as the normal distribution. Occasionally authors use central tendency to denote "the tendency of quantitative data to cluster around some central value."[2][3] The central tendency of a distribution is typically contrasted with its dispersion or variability; dispersion and central tendency are the often characterized properties of distributions. Analysts may judge whether data has a strong or a weak central tendency based on its dispersion. Please Subscribe for future updates.

Measure of Dispersion [Part-1] Class 11 Economics

Measure of Dispersion [Part-1] Class 11 Economics Notes Website : http://www.iamtopper.com/ ►Like Us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/iatclasses/ ►Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/iatClasses ►Follow us on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/iatclasses/ Why dispersion? Measures of central tendency, Mean, Median, Mode, etc., indicate the central position of a series. They indicate the general magnitude of the data but fail to reveal all the peculiarities and characteristics of theseries. In other words, they fail to reveal the degree of the spread out or the extent of the variability inindividual items of the distribution. This can be explained by certain other measures, known as ‘Measures ofDispersion’ or Variation. What is Dispersion? Simplest meaning that can be attached to the word ‘dispersion’ is a lack of uniformity in the sizes or quantities of the items of a group or series. According to Reiglemen, “Dispersion is the extent to which the magnitudes or quantities of the items differ, the degree of diversity.” The word dispersion may also be used to indicate the spread of the data. In all these definitions, we can find the basic property of dispersion as a value that indicates the extent to which all other values are dispersed about the central value in a particular distribution. Properties of a good measure of Dispersion There are certain pre-requisites for a good measure of dispersion: 1. It should be simple to understand. 2. It should be easy to compute. 3. It should be rigidly defined. 4. It should be based on each individual item of the distribution. 5. It should be capable of further algebraic treatment. 6. It should have sampling stability. 7. It should not be unduly affected by the extreme items. types of measure of dispersion

Some trends are predictable, like a new song from a popular artist, or a new movie trailer, while others are completely surprising. Therefore, we aim to combine popularity with novelty. This list considers view count (especially the rate of growth in views), where views are coming from, and many other signals. Therefore, the video with the highest daily view count may not necessarily be #1 on Trending. Trending now also includes Creator On the Rise and Artist On The Rise, where each week, up-and-coming creators and artists will be featured for a full day. Learn more in our blog post. Tips: • Consider making broadly appealing, shareable videos. These could help you to reach new fans who might not yet know your channel. • Keep up your channel’s momentum. Creators and Artists are eligible for On The Rise based on subscriber level (starting at 1K subs - Opal level), as well as metrics such as videos uploaded, growth in views. and growth in subscribers. • See how often your videos appear on the trending tab by looking at YouTube Analytics Traffic sources report, clicking the ‘Browse features’ link, and looking at the data for ‘Trending’. MYTH: "Channels get preferred placement and can buy a spot on Trending." TRUTH: Trending is never a paid placement. Biostatistics Part 1 PSM Videos

08:15
This is an animated lecture video on " BIOSTATISTICS " chapter from the PARK TEXTBOOK of COMMUNITY MEDICINE. Hi..........welcome to abmbbs.......Now the basic Biostatistics needed in mbbs can be divided into these broad headings.I will be dealing with the first 3 in this video. The next 4 topics will be covered in a 2nd video. The remaining extra topics will be covered in a 3rd video. So...the first topic is data presentation.......we all know that data can be subdivided into 2 categories...Quantitative & qualitative. So now we will discuss about the various ways to present quantitative data..... 1st is HISTOGRAM.....a histogram is a graphical presentation for continuous quantitative data....the continuous groups are plotted on the X axis & the frequencies are marked on the Y axis. Next come FREQUENCY POLYGON.....it is similar to a histogram except that it is made by joining mid points of class intervals at the heights of frequencies. Next is FREQUENCY CURVE....it is basically a frequency polygon that has a large number of observations & reduced group intervals.....hence the angles are smoothened & it becomes a curve. Next is a LINE CHART....its also known as LINE GRAPH....it shows the trend of an event over time. Next is CUMULATIVE FREQUENCY DIAGRAM...its also called OGIVE....it is a graph of cumulative relative frequency distribution. Finally there's the SCATTER DIAGRAM or DOT DIAGRAM.....its also called CORRELATION DIAGRAM.....because , it is used to depict correlation between 2 variables....I will be coming back to SCATTER DIAGRAM in a minute......This brings us to the end of the quantitative methods of data representation.....Now we talk about the Qualitative methods of data representation. First is BAR DIAGRAM.....it is used for visual comparision of magnitude of different frequencies.....it is considered to be the most versatile of all statistical diagrams.. Next comes....PIE or SECTOR DIAGRAM.....here, the categories are represented as a percentage of the total 100%....But remember , for pie diagrams...all the pie categories must be mutually exclusive... Next there's PICTURE DIAGRAM or PICTOGRAM.....it is a method of data representation for the common man to understand...so it often contains pictures.... Finally there's MAP DIAGRAM or SPOT MAP......it is prepared to show geographical distribution of frequencies. Here each dot marks 1 frequency......this completes the methods of data representation.....Now ,coming back to SCATTER DIAGRAM.......we have understood that it is used to depict correlation.....but how???...... look at the diagram of the left....here the dots are arranged in such a manner that their average forms a straight line whose slope is positive.....this slope is the CORRELATION COEFFICIENT 'R'.....when the CORRELATION COEFFICIENT 'R' =+1.....then it is called positive correlation..........now.... look at the diagram in the middle...here ,,the dots are arranged in such a manner that their average forms a straight line , whose slope is negetive.....so R=-1 & the correlation is said to be negetive........finally,,...look at the diagram on the left...here, no straight line can be drawn , because the dots are arranged diffusely....so there is no correlation... Next we come to the topic of variables....a variable is a character or attribute that varies from person to person & from time to time.......so...variables can be divided into Quantitative & Qualitative variables....QUANTITATIVE Variables are the ones that can be measured directly on a metric scale....example..weight, height, Mid arm circumference........QUALITATIVE Variables are the ones that cannot be measured....hence they have a nominal scale...typical examples include ABO blood group, sex & type of anaemia.......If you are wondering what is a nominal scale ,,,dont worry...i will be discussing the types of scales in a minute..... What is DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS? What does DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS mean?

04:16
What is DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS? What does DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS mean? DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS meaning - DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS definition - DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Descriptive statistics are statistics that quantitatively describe or summarize features of a collection of information. Descriptive statistics are distinguished from inferential statistics (or inductive statistics), in that descriptive statistics aim to summarize a sample, rather than use the data to learn about the population that the sample of data is thought to represent. This generally means that descriptive statistics, unlike inferential statistics, are not developed on the basis of probability theory. Even when a data analysis draws its main conclusions using inferential statistics, descriptive statistics are generally also presented. For example in papers reporting on human subjects, typically a table is included giving the overall sample size, sample sizes in important subgroups (e.g., for each treatment or exposure group), and demographic or clinical characteristics such as the average age, the proportion of subjects of each sex, the proportion of subjects with related comorbidities etc. Some measures that are commonly used to describe a data set are measures of central tendency and measures of variability or dispersion. Measures of central tendency include the mean, median and mode, while measures of variability include the standard deviation (or variance), the minimum and maximum values of the variables, kurtosis and skewness. Descriptive statistics provide simple summaries about the sample and about the observations that have been made. Such summaries may be either quantitative, i.e. summary statistics, or visual, i.e. simple-to-understand graphs. These summaries may either form the basis of the initial description of the data as part of a more extensive statistical analysis, or they may be sufficient in and of themselves for a particular investigation. For example, the shooting percentage in basketball is a descriptive statistic that summarizes the performance of a player or a team. This number is the number of shots made divided by the number of shots taken. For example, a player who shoots 33% is making approximately one shot in every three. The percentage summarizes or describes multiple discrete events. Consider also the grade point average. This single number describes the general performance of a student across the range of their course experiences. The use of descriptive and summary statistics has an extensive history and, indeed, the simple tabulation of populations and of economic data was the first way the topic of statistics appeared. More recently, a collection of summarisation techniques has been formulated under the heading of exploratory data analysis: an example of such a technique is the box plot. In the business world, descriptive statistics provides a useful summary of many types of data. For example, investors and brokers may use a historical account of return behavior by performing empirical and analytical analyses on their investments in order to make better investing decisions in the future. Univariate analysis involves describing the distribution of a single variable, including its central tendency (including the mean, median, and mode) and dispersion (including the range and quantiles of the data-set, and measures of spread such as the variance and standard deviation). The shape of the distribution may also be described via indices such as skewness and kurtosis. Characteristics of a variable's distribution may also be depicted in graphical or tabular format, including histograms and stem-and-leaf display.

What is BUSINESS STATISTICS? What does BUSINESS STATISTICS mean? BUSINESS STATISTICS meaning - BUSINESS STATISTICS definition - BUSINESS STATISTICS explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Business statistics is the science of good decision making in the face of uncertainty and is used in many disciplines such as financial analysis, econometrics, auditing, production and operations including services improvement, and marketing research. These sources feature regular repetitive publication of series of data. This makes the topic of time series especially important for business statistics. It is also a branch of applied statistics working mostly on data collected as a by-product of doing business or by government agencies. It provides knowledge and skills to interpret and use statistical techniques in a variety of business applications. A typical business statistics course is intended for business majors, and covers statistical study, descriptive statistics (collection, description, analysis, and summary of data), probability, and the binomial and normal distributions, test of hypotheses and confidence intervals, linear regression, and correlation.

Identifying a population, sample, parameters and statistics

07:06
In this video, I discuss reading and re-reading a question to provide guidance on approaching the answer. I talk about taking notes from the question and using these, together with reference to the preceding textbook content, to plan responses that are presented in sentence form. The question discussed involves a description of a scenario and requires that the population and sample be identified before some population parameters and sample statistics are suggested. A solution is provided for Question 1e from Exercise 4.2 of New QMaths 12A by Brodie and Swift https://cengage.com.au/product/division/secondary/title/new-qmaths-12a/isbn/9780170227001

Decision Theory - 1 Elements of common Decision Problems

10:23
#OperationsResearch #Math #Statistics #DecisionTheory #DecisionMaking #DecisionProblem #Action #StateOfNature #Outcome #ObjectiveVariable #FreeLecture #FreeStudy #Solution DECISION MAKING UNDER RISK AND UNCERTAINTY Decision Making Process Decision-making is the prerogative of management and the nature of the decisions made will vary according to the status of the manager. At board level, fundamental decisions regarding the objectives of the organization, and the development of a corporate plan to fulfill those objectives will be made. Functional and line management will be involved in operational decisions designed to ensure the successful implementation of the planning decisions. At shop floor level, foremen and line supervisors will be involved in determining the best approach to performing more specific tasks. The importance of decision-making _ the function of management must therefore be emphasised, and at the same time a set of criteria and procedures for decision-making must be specified. A formalised decision-making process is essential for efficient management of the organisation. Nature of Decisions Decision-making is concerned with the selection of the preferred course of action from a range of possibilities. The classical concept of decision-making assumes that the decision-maker: Has complete knowledge of all the possible alternative courses of action. Has complete knowledge of the consequences of taking every alternative. Can attach definite payoffs or utilities to each possible outcome. Can order the payoffs of each course of action in a unique sequence from highest to lowest payoff. With these assumptions a decision-maker can be regarded as an optimiser when he selects the alternative course of action with the highest payoff. Four Elements Common to Decision Problems: 1) Actions [Acts/Strategies]: The set of two or more alternatives the decision-maker has chosen to consider. The decision-maker's problem is to choose one action from this set. 2) States of nature: The set of two or more mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive chance events upon which the outcome of the decision-maker's chosen action depends. 3) Outcomes: The set of consequences resulting from all possible action/state of nature combinations. 4) Objective variable: The quantity used to measure and express the outcomes of a decision problem. We can identify these four specific elements of the decision problem in our example. First, a choice must be made between two possible courses of action-rent the out¬door stadium or rent the indoor stadium. Second, it is uncertain which event will occur-rain or no rain. We refer to these events as states of nature. Note that the states of nature considered in any problem must be mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive. Third, depending on which action is chosen and which state of nature occurs on the evening of the concert, the decision-maker will receive either a financial reward or a penalty for the chosen action. The consequences of the decision problem are referred to as outcomes; these may be either positive or negative. For example, if the action chosen by the promoter is Rent the outdoor stadium and the state of nature that occurs is Rain, the outcome that results is (-Rs. 2 million). The combination Rent the outdoor stadium/No rain will yield a profit of Rs. 17 million. The reward (or penalty) corresponding to each action/state of nature combination is called the outcome or payoff. Fourth, since the outcome is expressed in terms of net profit, it is objective variable here. A steel company has two iron mines having different production capacity. The raw iron is classified into three categories High, Medium/Fair and Low according to the quality. The factory of the company requires at least 12 tons of High-grade iron, at least 8 tons of Medium/Fair-grade iron and at least 24 tons of Low-grade iron per week. The daily expenditure of the first mine is ` 20,000 and that of the second mine is ` 16,000. The daily production of raw iron in the two mines is as follows: Mine Daily production (in tons) High Medium/Fair Low I 6 2 4 II 2 2 12 To minimize the cost of transportation, for how many days each mine should work in a week? Formulate this as an LPP and solve the formulated LPP through Graphical Method.
